Ive tried many of the WM6 roms and some were pretty stable and usable- but the main reason I reverted back to wm5 each time was a distinct decrease in device speed.
Any wm6 rom with any features or no features with the primary requirement being speed?
Thanks
Ajay
Have you tried mfrazzz's XM6.2a? It's the fastest I've used.
i always had the impression that wm6 is faster then wm5.
For VM6 the fastest i think is a rom called spead freak but is lacking a lot of programs and things (not even camera is included) and the second is the original 318 WM6.
You can find both if you search this forum.
odd I find WM6 to be a little faster...not a huge difference but it's definitely not slower than WM5.
I think speed is in the rom itself. If its loaded with a bunch of junk then of course it will more than likely not perform as well for you as others.
mfrazzz's XM6.2a is the best one.I recommend this ....
wm6 is slower than wm5 because almost all of them have pagepool reduced, if you revert PP of wm6 to default (12M) then it will be more faster than wm5!
Go install Vista on a computer that had XP on it and then ask why it's slower over in the M$ forums.
With that said. I agree with what most have said about the XDA Mobile 6 R2a. It's what im running. And i love it. If i wanted a blazing fast PDA i'd get one with a faster CPU and more ram.

i am not concerned by your words... i cant see ANY performance hit with 4 mb pp so far... GUI is faster with wm06 imo.

I use Faria Crossbow and find my device speed up quite significantly (IMHO).
My office mate also run WM6 on prophet and the result is quite the same.
I think the matter is on the ROM you are using which is over populated with unnecessary applications/services?

just stay away from useless apps that ARE taking mem when not used.....

whole idea is need to do better..

Yeah, I would like to find out which rom this is. I have never been able to get above 30, even in wm5.
NBD 8.0 is THE fastest ROM i have ever used regardless of WM5 or WM6

Maybe, but all versions except muns have the missed calls problem. (you will have missed calls show as 1 or 2 sec conversations )
So i will just go with 7.9 if you really want NBD

Many WM6 builds are capable of sparing 30MB of RAM. The easiest way to achieve this is, as everyone has suggested, alter the pagepool of the rom that your using.
Many factors affect the speed of a rom. Reducing pagepool may speed up some aspects of your rom but how noticable the difference may be is dependant on what else is in your rom.
Im yet to be convinced about the actual correlation between pagepool and the speed of the rom because I am still experimenting. So far all I know is that if the WINDOWS folder of your device is overflowing with files then reducing pagepool wont increase speed very much.

ahh btw, its possible to turn cam driver off - gain 1.2-2.5 mb.

its method for having >38 mb mem free(i.e. for emulators etc).
Going back to ajaymalkani's post comment...I myself went back to WM5 after 2-3 months of playing around with WM6 Roms. Many WM6 roms out there are good and tailored in their own way. Some are blazing fast while missing applications, others have all the applications but slow as hell. Touch applications definitely kill performance even with overclock. I finally got fed up as A2DP (very important to me anyways) didn't work on majority of the ROMs (it worked, but huge skipping problems even with all the A2DP settings and fixes). I finally then went back to WM5...has all the applications I need, works super fast without overclock, and got A2DP working flawlessly (no skips or hisses). WM5 works great for me but again, to each their own.
Although, I'll admit, after seeing nothin's post, that was cool how he got that much resources.
Cool

thanks, it is occupied by stripping some unused sys functions(cabs to restore just in case).
is there any wm05 kitchen that is able to do the same with wm05?
I agree, wm5 is faster. But I just enjoy the use of wm6. the gradient bars just make it hot.

Hello,
I just got a Kaiser (German T-mobile's Vario III) a few days ago.
I first encountered the "White screen" problem while trying to flash the HardSPL.
So I tried the JumpSPL (Which worked), then did the HardSPL Flash via the RUU update.
Afterwards I flashed the DCS 1.7 ROM... And I noticed my phone is SLOW. I mean very slow. It takes about 120 seconds to boot, the TouchFLO Cube runs VERY slow (And very unresponsive as well, its REALLY hard to get it to pop up and turn).
The camera (For taking pictures) is also really slow, but weird enough, not always, sometimes it will go down to 0.5 FPS, sometimes it will run fine.
I am sure my old wizard performed much better than this Kaiser. Did I do something wrong? Is there a way I can benchmark the performance and compare it to other user's phones?
Thanks!
UPDATE:
OK, so far I've found out two things that made my TyTN II so much faster:
1- My SD card was not properly formatted. (This worked with both my 2GB and 4GB MicroSD Cards! Both from Kingston.) My file system was incredibly slow. To fix this (And I mean really fix, this made my phone's file system SO much faster (According to SPB Benchmark)) Go here: http://www.sdcard.org/about/downloads/
Download and install the formatter, do a quick format with the option "FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT" on. (Dont be a jackass and remember to back up your data first... formatting will wipe all your data on your card).
2- .NET Framework was installed but apparently, not set to be running.
I went to do a registry edit under: \HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NetCompactFramework\
The entry (Name) "3.5.7283.00" (Which I believe is my .NET version's number) was set to (Data)0, I changed it to 1.
Still, I am under the strong impression that my TYTN's CPU is VERY sluggish, anybody has more tweaks like this?
A clue?... anybody?
Did you ever HARD RESET at the alignment screen after the flash and before the initial setup?
This is really hard to find, as it's scattered in a bunch of threads, so I won't tell you to 'READ' like I have in other recent threads...
However, it has been posted that WM6.1 for some users is SLOW compared to 6.0. For some users it's unbearable, and for others it's just fine.
One of the reasons might be that WM6.1 has debugging features enabled as it's not a shipping ROM but a leaked beta.
BTW, others have also stated that 6.1 is sluggish only for the first couple of hours (possibly after the debugging code has finished initializing, etc) and works as fast or faster than 6.0 (although the benchmarks say otherwise).
So you may just want to hang on for a couple more hours before reflashing...
Hope this helps!
@P1Tater:
Yes - I did hard-reset, I actually flashed the rom (DCS 1.7) 3x (Following the recommended flashing/hard reset procedures) to make sure I was following the steps.
@Alex:
Thanks alot for being leinent and not just saying "Use the search!" , the search in this forum can be a true PiTA.
What you wrote about the WM6.1 does make sense, yet... since we all have the same hardware, and we all follow the same procedures... shouldn´t we all have very similar (If not the exact same) results?
Right now Im trying to get this SPB Benchmark running (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/) The "Home user" version of their benchmark seems to be free, will you guys care posting your results so I can compare?
I'll post mine ASAP.

We have benchmarks posted in a ton of threads too. Early ones show 6.1 as being slower than 6.0 by about 5% to 10%. I haven't kept up on this as of late though...
FYI, I know dutty put out some benchmarks for a 6.1 ROM that he couldn't release that was leaked and Microsoft actually told XDA-Developers to *REMOVE* it. I think this one was an non-debug version, because Microsoft hasn't asked us to remove any of the other 6.1 ROMs released by tuspidin, which we are all using variants of now...
Alright, im going to look around then.
Will still post mine here, just for the hell of it...
About Microsloth:
How come they are so picky about this? We all have "Licences" for WM, don't we? - If im not mistaken, both HTC and most mobile carrier providers will offer free upgrades of WM to their customers, so why bug xda about offering alternate versions of licenced products?

I think Microsoft decided to say that if a LEAKED WM6.1 comes out, it's going to have our debug phone home code in it, so they can gather useful customer feedback.
I had a thread about that too. I didn't go into depth about conspiracy theories though, since it was focused more towards other chefs, and i try to avoid sounding like a kook instead of a cook
Oh, as for why things perform at different speeds for different people, that depends on how each individual perceives the linear progression of the fourth dimension within our three dimensional world. (edit2: Excuse me as I remove my quantum mechanic bong from my arse...)
This is the reason why I believe in benchmarks over any individual's perceptions...
Alright, I ran that benchmark thingie, and judging by the results, I think there's definitely something wrong with my device/config:

Trying to download - explorer has crashed twice.....will try a little later
Congrats on your rom - will update once I can download
Edit - internet crashed three times with install language issues, but have finally downloaded the file - will update later once I've installed and tried out
just tried to download it and the download stopped after a few hundred kb. If others are reporting the same problem you might want to move it to MediaFire or RapidShare or one of the other file hosting places.
[edit:] I finally got the file down on my 3rd try but before I go installing it I need to ask if it is G4 friendly. Does this ROM attempt to update the IPL/SPL?
Details : page pool, free RAM ?
Can We have more info? I'm downloading to try it. Looks like my favorite beer
What device tdod the OS come from?
What is the Page Pool (ca it be changed)?
Thanx for the post (downloading slow)
OMFG!!!! It is beautifull! and it works!! and the Pagepool is 6mb (WST) Pretty basic rom. Looks Official. seems to be all working.
Gprs counter has some other language. boxes instead of words.
There is a small update to outlook, with little arrows to choose contact numbers to call without having to open the contact
NETCF is version 2 not 3 (I have an oem package if the cook is interested)
Love the new and improved icons.
First time I had task manager/Xbutton2 work on my wizard.
Battery life is awesome.
Flash without storage and sim cards

Installed, working well on my G3 wizard. Quick rom. Here's a few things about the rom I found.
A few programs in the rom:
Oxios hibernate
Clear temp
Quick clear
Sim manager
USB harddrive
Usual games:
Solitaire
Bubble breaker
Camera = 3.00 (build 25498)
The user interface for settings -> personal and settings->system have nice graphics. Similar to Vista. Actually most of the icon on the phone look a little richer.
Wifi seems to connect a little faster. Still testing. Not much feedback on this rom. Where is everyone?
6 hours after taking the phone off the charger my battery is at 97%
I have downloaded my gmail, went out to see if the web works in my area made a few phone calls. it is as if this rom's os was designed for my phone. very impressive.
Had a little trouble this morning though:
I attempted to use my comuter as a stereo headset. Because I wanted Pocket Alarm MP3 to wake me up blaring the stereo through bluetooth.
That didn't happen because I got a text message before my alarm was supposed to come on; and killed all the sound untill I disconnected from my computer and/or headset. Also should note that the phone does not use internal speakers if your bluetooth is on. pretty nice. I just have to remember to not use the bluetooth part for my alarm anymore(just in case I get a call)
Weird. this is a pretty good rom, but noone seems to notice it.
Also, using WST (Wizard service tool) I was able to determine that it has parts from 3 different builds of 6.1; and that the XIP could be from TNT ast the bootloader starts showing the OS the same at tnt19199
I like this thing.

PDA VIET and the Latest Kaiser 19213 with radio 1.65.20.29.
But
S4V.19209.01
(Clean Edition) dated 02.04.2008 is by far fastest by any means and clutter free. It gives best performence with Storage Memory of 140 MB and Program Memory of whopping 70 MB, which by far is max. in any ROM.
Install a few programs like Battery status, CLlaunch, PDF reader etc and it is the best performing combo.
Dialer is best as it scans/ searches call + contacts simultaneously.
Pls post your comments after using the same.
PDA VIET and the Latest Kaiser 19213 with radio 1.65.20.29 is the Best for me .
Give the link of S4V.19209.01. I cant find it.
I use sleuth v3. It had 71 mb free program memory after 1st start. Now with only 12mb free storage memory( more than 40 programs installed) i get 62 MB free program memory after reboot , but its starts leaking and after 10 hours is already by 52-54MB .
How much memory leak has S4V.19209.01?
edit:

Sleuth isnt clean rom, but its fast and stable + UC . I like that
tnt vanilla has over 70mb program.
rom really depends on what u want from it. a fully loaded multimedia rom will always have less program memory than a clean rom.
as for me i like _alex_, duttys, leos, its right, confused stu, kyphur, sleuth, pham and any other cook i haven't named, roms. lol i like them all and they r all great in their own way.

I agrre to extent but its not really proven that a clean rom is faster than a full rom, Some full roms are faster than clean/lite roms. The only reason I like full roms are that you get most apps you want to use and if you dont use them just doesnt hurt to have them, with lite roms you get good storage and program memory but when installing back your cabs it uses more program memory and sometimes makes your device slower. well thats my opinion. this is a sample benchmark of a Full rom i'm working on.

Glad to see you're cookin up something special for us...even if we will have to wait a couple weeks for it. Keep up the good work man. I love your work
Hi friends!
I think the topic pretty much says it all;
This is a native WM 6.5 Universal OEMXIPKernel/xip.bin/nk.exe - aware of the new Slot 60/Slot 61 virtual memory layout - what does this mean for you as a chef?
Now you don't have to recmod any modules in \SYS anymore, to port over WM 6.5! And you have 64mb free to convert more files to modules!
But you will need to use a relocation tool that is aware of the new memory layout;
Ervius Visual Kitchen + Bepe's New Kitchen do this with the "Real WM 6.5 AKU" checkbox
There's also a build of "WMReloc" 2.0 floating around that may support this, that would be compatible with the "old style" kitchen (buildos + g'reloc, it would replace g'reloc)
http://rapidshare.com/files/245799862/HTCUniversal-WM65-nk-xip.zip
My friend, you are soooo fast!
I was working from last couple of days exactly for the same. You have saved my resources.
Thank you so much.
By the way, did you patch it for 128mb ram support?
Cheers
I can smell ANOTHER WM 6.5 ROM COMING .....

Good luck everybody and thank Da_G for this great share!
guys, didn't anybody notice some strange battery behavior using this new wm 6.5 nk.exe?
the sypthoms are the following:
when the pda is runnig, everything is ok. when i turn it off by pressing the power button, everything is ok. but when i turn it on, it immediately says that it is running out of battery and in battery properties there is 0% istead of 90% as before. all wireless radios turn off and the phone dies quickly. after this i can power it on and it will start again but will work until i press the power button again or it will go to sleep automatically.
this problem happens even while charging. i mean that while the uni is turned off and charging, there is orange light and everything is ok. but when i turn it on, orange light goes away and there is no charging status on screen and it sais again 0% battery and die.
you can say that i have battery problem. but:
1) i have checked 2 batteries, 1 good and 1 not very good. the result is exactly the same
2) i have 2 exactly same roms that differ only by using oemxipkernel. rom which uses old nk.exe runs good and battery do not perform such strange things. rom which uses new nk.exe does not like my battery.
any suggestions?
it seems that nobody except me experience this problem?
anyway, it is solved by using original stock oembatterydriver.
good luck guys building your native 6.5 roms! =)
hi guys, did anybody make it working for 128 ram?

Hi friends!
I think the topic pretty much says it all;
This is a native WM 6.5 Universal OEMXIPKernel/xip.bin/nk.exe - aware of the new Slot 60/Slot 61 virtual memory layout - what does this mean for you as a chef?
Now you don't have to recmod any modules in \SYS anymore, to port over WM 6.5! And you have 64mb free to convert more files to modules!
But you will need to use a relocation tool that is aware of the new memory layout;
Ervius Visual Kitchen + Bepe's New Kitchen do this with the "Real WM 6.5 AKU" checkbox
There's also a build of "WMReloc" 2.0 floating around that may support this, that would be compatible with the "old style" kitchen (buildos + g'reloc, it would replace g'reloc)

don't bother, sun it is not the real deal anyway
How not a BIG DEAL?
If this is workling, ITS a good thing.
First will give us less chance of get less virtual mem.
Why minor thing? CAN be explained? JUST to be clear?
And thanks to DA_G and everyone working in that.. Nice thing dude. do me get out mine shell to be here again. ( besides no time to compile a new rom with your XIP and test.
).
BUT THANKS.....
Can someone explain me, WHY we cant download anymore this? and at da_g forum + QUR PPC tell "The same thing do I need to repeat this? No more native kernels..." NO MORE THIS?
IM out from internet. And i cant get this in time.
ITs coming back the DARK ages of "HIDING EVERYTHING GOOD?" or any other problem?
IM not asking about the file by itself. BUT THE WHY.
Thaks in advance.
Da_G, could you please repost it?... it'd be nice to have another two slots available more modules, more free RAM, more speed
+1
for Universal 6.5 native kernel
Just waiting.
Can please somebody reupload it? Thanks

No one has an hint on how to patch this new nk.exe to support 128 Mb UNIs?
I'll try to ask to Da_g, but if someone has knowledge in this, please help.
I've tried many of the new 6.5 builds, they work fine but I've problems with ringtones and sounds in general, many of those don't work at all. I've read that the problem could be the different modules allocation on 6.5.
So, I think that the right nk.exe could fix these problems.
Correct me if I'm wrong
I will release apache roms for the newer leaked windows mobile builds. Please post back to:
* comment on rom
* give feedback
* give suggestions
* request a different bootloader and/or carrier (I will be using 1.04/Verizon for now)
* Answer the following questions:
How much storage/program memory is available?
Does your sd card work? (Don't worry-There's just a small chance of it not working-testing same build right now, sd card is fine.)
ROM #1 SimzzROM 2.4: wm6.5.3.3 28205 Verizon bootloader 1.04, 1.00
Includes camera, googlemaps, s2u2, s2p, various skins(keyboard, calc, etc.), wm office, wm games
Please note that to CLOSE a task, tap X and to MINIMIZE a task, hold X.
Use at your own risk! This rom was not tested by me. The following are Verizon.
Download: bootloader 1.04
Download: bootloader 1.00
Thank Simzz! I will download to test
Could you post bootloader 1.00/ Verizon?

Done. Check first post.
If there is 15+ MB of program memory and 25+ MB storage memory, I would recommend trying out manila 2d. Someone post back if the memory is okay. Manila 2d works fine on mine with build 28014, so I'll post links to the cabs later. (If memory's alright.)
Word.
simzz!
I don't know why you're doing this man, but it's so awesome of you.
I'm new to the whole concept, but here's what I've got, and what I think I want...
HTC Apache, bootloader 2.02, Verizon is my carrier. Wanting either WM 6.1 or 6.5 relatively pimped.
I have no idea what the Manila business is - assuming it's a suite of apps for WM devices...
I would be happy with any rom that would run on my phone and free me of this pitiful WM5 situation.
I just have NO IDEA what apps would be good/useful.
Something to clean up the file system. Some way to navigate the files better. A decent media player?
I just don't know. Something barebones would be a good start, if I can just install .cabs on my own, but I would trust you to know what apps are good to go.
Please, thank you and AWESOME.
Word
(P.S. What's the best way to save my contacts/texts before flashing - can't get Micro$ucks activsync to work...?)

For contacts/text try PIM Backup
Manila is an interface/today screen plugin for your pocket pc. Looks like this.
I'll put cabs up later if you want it.
Damn, son, that was quick
Prompt.
Not to discourage, but what is your motivation, aside from selflessness and the desire to learn? Are you getting donations?
I've read through several of the recent threads you've contributed to, and I'm confident that you will do a smashing job, and I just don't know how to thank you enough. I saw the post with the stuff for manila. Nothing was quite self-explanatory about it.
Thanks for clarifying.
Your help is tremendously appreciated, as just about every rom I've tried to download and even most of the stuff from PPCgeeks that I think I need for the kitchen to cook my own has been DEAD.
Again, thanks a million for the upcoming rom, and the PIM backup suggestion.

I could have either not compressed it, compressed with xpr, or compressed with lzx. Lzx lets you put the most into a rom, no compression gives the most program memory. I chose xpr(mix between both). I may have tried to fit a little to much into the rom, but I think it'll be fine.

Yeah I have 20 MB program memory and 35 MB storage. If you could post links to some cabs that would be awesome.
Please check out this page. Extras, tweaks, skins, fixes available. Thanks to Whitealien and Mbarvian.

Preyz Jebus!
You are SO the man.
My first flashing experience went perfectly well.
I can't thank you enough.
Smooth awesomeness.
Something happened to some of my texts during PIMbackup restore, but no big deal, my contacts are straight...
Still exploring apps and whatnot, and my SD card hasn't arrived yet, so I'm limited in what I can do so far, but I must say, it's very responsive and smooth! Such a dramatic improvement over the WM5 that was on the device when I got it.
Any advice on getting linux to boot this crazy thing?
THANK YOU!

Death of the link
Thanks for the suggestion, but the link to the image is down. I encounter that frequently with everything about this device.
I'm absolutely loving the rom you cooked for me.
Now I want to cook one up myself, definitely more of a minimal rom with less stuff I won't use.
How about the battery meter being visible somewhere?
Anyway, I'm off to get my kitchen set up... if the files are still available...
PEACE!
About the Kitchen files...
I only have limited swathes of time to d/l this stuff (no steady internet), and several of the files are quite large, especially the ones that are named for a dimensional size (480x800, 240x320, 480x640)...
So which of these are necessary, and which can I do without? Once I begin the download process, it seems to be building a text file in a temp directory, which can't be resumed if interrupted... so I'd like to limit myself to files that I need for the Apache.
Any advice on that?
I should probably be posting this somewhere else...
run updater (check start menu) and select:
240x320 oem
common oem
Then either the whole apache subdirectory, or these:
apache carriers
apache core
apache drivers
any builds you want.

I will be moving my roms over to my new site. There is a forum there for questions, or anything else. Download links to the roms will be provided there.
