change 80040000-OS.nb to nk.nbf - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Buddies
Who can tell me how to change 80040000-OS.nb to nk.nbf ?
Thanks

...ehh, i feel nice today =P
I assume you're using the WM6 Kitchen? In the Flashing folder, open up a program nb2nbf_wizard.exe
It's pretty self explanatory from there...Language is WWE, [x]OS, and all that...
BTW, in the "faria's real WM6" sticky it has instructions in there too. You can find most of your answers by searching around (which is probly why I don't have a high post count )

Better to say little and teach than talk without saying nothing (like this post...)

What is the Start address? please

you don't need to put anything in the start address, it should fill itself in when you choose OS in the pop down menu just to it's right.

OEM's for Kitchens

Ive had a request from Leo to make a folder for OEM's so I've created the following:
http://vidmes.com/Uni/Kitchens/OEMs
You can upload from there using the following credentials:
Username: [email protected]
Password: oemupload
Address: ftp.vidmes.com
NB: My server only allows connections WITH USERNAMES, so make sure to use an FTP program
NB: This is for OEM PACKAGES ONLY. If you want a program (ie .cab or .exe) uploaded, contact me
CONVENTIONS
Files are to be named "[company] appname versionnum.rar" (eg "ArcSoft MMSComposer 3.5.1.4.rar" OR "MMSComposer 3.5.1.4.rar" OR "Grisoft TotalCommander 1.5.rar") - Try to keep naming the same, if you're uploading a different version of whatever is already there, use the same naming....
Readmes are to be named "[company] appname.txt" (eg "ArcSoft MMSComposer.txt" or "Grisoft TotalCommander.txt")
RAR or Zip files only. With plain-text files for readme's
Folders are permitted, but discouraged. Please just dump everything in the main folder. If it gets crowded, I'll see about folders. But, if everyone follows the conventions, it should stay neat.
Warez\cracks\serials are NOT permitted. I will remove any offending material.
And a final note: If this privilege is abused, I will remove the FTP user, and we'll go back to everyone having to PM me
Turning an OEM package into a CAB
Check out these guys: http://www.ocpsoftware.com/ they make a piece of Software called "WinCE Cab Manager" that allows you to do it. I'm not sure if its free or how easy it is to use - but there is no harm trying!
OEM for the kitchen
Thank you my friend.
Leo
Rock on!
Thanks!
Time for guidelines on structure of OEMs and the ftp folders?
Include readme's with what info?
Naming conventions? (version and enough to know what it is?)
What can't be added (serials, warez?)
Use of folders?
Rar or zip?
(sorry, just trying to keep it quality) ,)
I've uploaded the OEM's from Helmi, they should work in the new Kitchen, too.
Shall I upload some OEM's from other devices, too?
Max

Guidelines and conventions added to the first post. PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU UPLOAD!!
And one other thing: Donations Welcome - hosting ain't cheap!
GREAT contribution from TehPenguin. thank you.
From what I remember, OEM are slightly different depending on the kitchen you use.
I think that at least are two different. People more involved could confirm this.
I would propose to create folders for the different version of Kitchen/OEM.
It would make everyones work/search easier.
Cheers

All seems fair there Pengiun .
The two versions of the OEMs differ in that the entry into initflashfiles to move across the shortcuts to the start menu in the first one went into the initflashfiles in the individual OEM folder on the original Helmi kitchen, but into the single initflashfiles in OEM_Language_0409 (from memory?).
Seeing as how this is for the new kitchen (?), the entry into the single initflashfiles could just go in the readme?
My problem with the old OEMs is that there appeared to be a lot that didn't work, can we only add tested OEMs here to keep it tidy and useful?
I'm just providing the space - so dont ask me too many questions
Personally I believe people should put up what they can, and chuck in the readme's as much information as they can.
If the OEM's need customisations, post them on this thread or in the thread of the relevant Kitchen
If you need to ask questions, direct them to the Kitchen maintainers (eg Leo and Ranju) or the ROM developers (eg Ivan, Midget, JWright, MWang, etc)

I would dare to say that this point must be mandatory, maybe even more: only 2 or 3 users (Leo, grayme and Ranju) or the ROM developers should be able to add the OEM to the main folder; everyone else, should have a "test" folder. We take the risk to have a big mess wihout knowing what to pick.
The readme file is a good idea to place all the info needed to work with the OEM.
Hi Ultravox,
Think that building ROM's and building OEM's is always a mather of thrust and a bit experimenting (see if it works).
A OEM needs a 'dsm' and a 'rgu' and sometimes you need to tell initflashfiles.dat where to place the files.
Before I will use a OEM I should always have a look first at the 'rgu' a/o the initflashfiles.txt, if initflashfiles.txt excist I modify initflashfiles.dat.
The only thing that is necassary for the OEM is the initflashfiles.txt (if the OEM needs it offcourse!), if you don't know where to place the files the whole OEM won't work and you need to rebuild.
Cheers,
Leo

Here'yar!
I've added a few files to start off with:
Ghisler Total Commander 2_UPX - freeware 150k
Gábor Kovács Tcpmp 0.72 - freeware 629k
Mort's MortPlayer 3.31RC6 - freeware 741k
SKKV SKTools3.1.3 - very usable demo 473k
vijay555 Hide_Bottom_Bar - homebrew/freeware 11k
I named the readme's 'readme' as that seemed easiest to find them

Chef Mentor Wanted...

hi, peeps.
Im having a play with some bits and pieces and think I get it. Wondered if a kind Chef would mind taking me under thier wing and giving me a few bits to play with eg partially created roms, ones that didnt work, ones that did, a couple of different roms and then get me to try and merge them etc.
Want to extract some existiing roms so I can learn how the bits all work. Yes I have read the tuts and guides. But I fancy having a foster chef help me get up to speed.
Soz if this is against the rules, I just fancy trying to be an apprentice first and learn from different roms what worked and what didnt, and more importantly, why. Also want to learn about these tweaks people make to the dlls etc.
that mentor would be the wiki.

Thanks raiisak, Its very refreshing to see someone who goes that bit further. I had seen some of those, but there are a few new links I hadnt come accross before.
Just bit the bullet and flashed my first rom It aint grear, but at least it works! Not getting the performance of Leo though, even though I used his core v4. Must try and see why.
To the "read the wiki" bregade, I confirm I had before I wrote this thread. Reason I asked for a mentor, is that is how I approach my work. For my employer, I have mentors, and I mentor others. Collaboration was what I thought forums and communities were all about - perhaps I was mistaken.
Once again, thank you to raiisak. No doubt Ill be in contact to see how you get on, as well as trying to learn with you if I can keep up

After playing around with all these tools, download the kaiser 3.28 rom and strip out the bloatware. This is where the skills come in knowing all the reg keys belonging to what program and what files link to the program. These are all good tips for a good start. I wish you luck.

Well I am glad it helped you a bit on the way, and I fully understand why you search a mentor. All the info on cooking are great untill you reach more advanced areas best explained by chefs who knows the deal or others who are contributing and developing.
I have a couple more for you:
Universal WM6 ROM Kitchen
XDA PagePool Patcher v1.4 for ALL Kaiser Rom Files (and Touch dual)
Others string of intrest is:
how to edit a .rgu
how to create a oem
how the build a package
Remeber L26 and other great chef`s rgu`s are heavy modified. Theyre roms are stripped and customized over and over. We deadly need to start fresh, learning the kitchen, again and again its stucked in mind and fingers. Then move on and add oure own packages editing those oem and flash, reflash and flash some more. Reading up on forum while you are cooking is a great thing as its wery time consuming. Doing it basic adding one by one is a great learning curve and great for bugtesting.
Lucky me I am under a great chefs wing and will be happy to provide/pass on some basic knowledge about cooking if you gets stuck youre first week
Just shout out or pm me and ill do my best.

WOW! Thanks dude...
That stock tool removal will be my next step.
My first cooked rom still hasnt died yet - I just bunged anyold crap in to see how it would look, and if it would work. The fact it even booted amazed me - and there are even some bits I like in there. - for example there are 2 start menus, one normal WM version, the other like a Desktop. Id never seen that before - Id always wanted to clean out a rom, then put some of my most used apps - Opera, RSS, PIE a couple of games or something. Now I might "play" more and think more outside the box... Dunno yet !
Edit: - when I say 2 Start menus, I mean at the same time, depending on where you click on, icon for detailed version, word for simple version.

Hi
It is good to see a determined fellas that try to cook. I'm no cook and merely a average user... but if i'm not mistaken, the two start menu you talking about might be coming from qmenu (the one that look like desktop.. by desktop i assume you mean windows desktop and it is a cascading start menu). maybe the base you use already have it installed.

More ways to cook ROMs than _Alex_'s?

Hi all,
I started cooking my first ROM today using _Alex_ v5 cooking kit, which is a fantastic tool. However, I am looking for more customization for my ROM. For example, the default Windows Media Player skin. I was wondering if there was any other way to cook a ROM other than _Alex_'s that has more control?
Thanks

Skins can easyly be added and to customice a skin you'll also need some image editor like Photoshop and that has nothing to do with kitchens
Yes, I know how to create skins, but it is simply a matter of setting them as the default skin for WMP when the user first loads the ROM. Again, though, this is only one example
where would you find the files to replace, and apply the sin you created? OEM? ROM? SYS?
Umm, are you asking where I would look for them?

Yea i also have the same qustions as you for skinning while cooking
Oh, well, I found a folder in SYS/MediaOS/wmplayer.exe/
Maybe we could put the skin files in there If anyone tries this, please let me know the results
to skin the mediaplayer look inside this folder MediaOS_dpi_96_resh_240_resv_320
there should be a *.rgu file open it with notepad and edit so it pints to the skin you want

1st. Was the primary splash, you could make it your own, size must be 256KB, in *.nb format, if you want to flash it, change to *.nbh format,.
2nd. Was the animated.gif, any size will be okay, just create a cab for this, and install it to your device, the animated screen will be change then,.
3rd. Was the Welcomehead image, use "splashscreen.exe" (its somewhere here) to change it without cooking,.
Hope this helpful,.

Yea, i was playing around with env. but i couldnt figure out how to make a cab with it, i could make a package file out of a cab, but not a cab itself. and the files i want to include/cook in my rom are the 3 custom spashscreen - but i cant seem to find out were to put the files so that they will be included.

Cleaning up a ROM...Yes I'm a newbie

Hello everyone, this is my first thread here and I really hate to ask this but I have been reading and searching for the past 4 days and have learned a lot except for this. When researching the wiki and searching xda-dev w/ google I couldn't find any info or guides involving the cleaning up of or removing apps/programs from a dumped and extracted ROM. I want to learn how to take a ROM and remove all programs I don't want and re-cook with what I need. Could anyone point me in the right direction so that I can learn this process?
Any help will be greatly appreciated, and please be easy on me if I missed anything. Once again thanks.

Thanks but I have already watched all of those vids and have them saved on my computer for future reference. I don't see anything there that will help me with what I need. For example, say I have a HTC ROM that came installed on my device when I bought it and I want to remove bubble breaker and solitare from the ROM as I don't want them. Is there something out there that teaches how to do this? I know how to dump the ROM and extract it, just do not know what parts of the app I need to remove (dll's, exe's, reg entries, etc) or where. I honestly could be missing something but I am for sure confused. Also I used to live just south of Pittsburgh in Washington county, now in AZ....saw you were in western PA.
ok bud not to sound like mean ass...
the screen casts taught you everything, I myself use IMGFS tools to dump and recook roms but there are lots of prebuilt kitchens such as kaiser Kitchen. cooking doesnt get any easier than that. if your going to need more help and just dont get whats in the wiki try and have someone do a one on one with you over IM since everything you need to know is well documented in the kaiser wiki as well as the Hermes wiki
knowing what files to remove can be made easier by using package tool from bepe. but its more trail and error. also you can use reshack to see what files are linked to what.

Didn't sound mean at all man. I do use kaiser kitchen and have used imgfs tools by themselves too, neither of those are the problem. Now I have not looked into bepe's tools or reshack which seems to be what I'm looking for more or less. I will try and locate those tools and give them a shot. It's just hard for me to figure out how to remove all parts of an app on a rom. I appreciate the help. Thanks.
yes that is one of the fun parts of rom cooking....
figuring out what goes to what and what you can remove with out breaking something else. its lots of trail and error :/ once you get the hang of it its pretty simple till you start porting roms and such
thanks for the help.
Maybe you can add your discovery to any guides or wikis. Even if it's only an alternate phrasing, it could save other people from a tough learning curve.

3.55.502.01 BASIC WWE ROM (19214) [12Mbyte Page Pool] ** 6 Versions NOW AVAILABLE **

Firstly:
Sorry for the confusion I was not aware that "NO THRILLS" which is what I originally called this Basic ROM was someones 'Trade Mark'. Please forgive me for stepping on any toes, it was not intentional, and not intended to take away from anyones well earned glory. Sorry all!!.
So Here it is:
This is my first ROM I've put up for Download. I've been playing about with these ROMs for quite a while and I have really appreciated everyones help in developing wonderful tools and freely distributing them here.
XDA-Developers is just brillient
So This ROM is based on the latest ATT build (3.55.502.1) I have removed all of the ATT bloat ware, and several applications listed below, and left the ROM open for customizing. I have often found that Most ROMS have only the 5 tab Home, and the older Task Manager etc, so I have removed all traces of these applications and simply left the ROM barebones, so people can just add applications as needed.
Applications removed:
ATT Music Shop
ATT Games Shop
ATT Mobie TV
ATT Music ID
ATT Mall
Real Player
HTC Home
HTC Today Plug-in
HTC Task Manager
Windows Music Player Plug-in
Microsoft Welcome Center
Applications Added:
SDAutoRun
Windows Vista Wait Cursor
Windows Media Player Compatability Upgrade (now plays mp4 video)
Screen Capture App
Reg Editor
This ROM does run 2 additional small Cabs after first installed, these are adding small settings for the ATT network. These Cabs DO NOT AFFECT any none ATT users. Hence this ROM can be used on all carriers that I am aware of.
This ROM is compatible with all the 1.65 Radios. I have not Tried the 1.58 yet, but I have tried the new 1.71 Radio and that one is also compatible with this ROM.
Voice Command and all the OFFICE applications are still there, as is NETCF2.0
I have uploaded two copies, one with the radio, and one without.
I am planning on doing a fully loaded ROM soon based on this acrhitecture.
Please let me know what you guys and girls find with this new ROM
Thank you

I called this ROM a NO THRILLS Rom. Sorry for any confusion but this rom is in no way associated with the Master Chef "NoThrills". Please forgive me if I mis-represented this ROM. I simply ment that it was a stripped down ROM with only Basic Apps installed. In England where I am originally from No Thrills means just that, "very basic". Which is why I used the term. I was not aware until recently that "NoThrills" was a xda members name.
However, NOTATreoFan is dead right its "No Frills" I was thinking of. Doh!!!!! Trust me I program better than I apparently speak !!!
Sorry for the confusion NoThrills. Please don't hate me, i'm just stupid
Problems Reported So Far
None, However some poeple have commented on various NETCF configurations, hence the list of availlable versions has been updated to accomodate these requests.
Now you can have :
No NETCF
NETCF2.0
NETCF3.0
Enjoy!
Thx M8, I'll give it a go...

This isnt the "No Thrills" that you think it is, it looks like we have a new chef which is great but I agree that this should prob be changed from "No Thrills" that is of course you want a cluttered thread with questions like the above. Its always nice to have another chef though, Ill give it a whirl if I get the time.
Finaly????

This is not No Thrills Rom.....!
He can rename it to No Frills. Oh wait... that would confuse people who shop at Pathmark and buy their house-brand products...

I hate to be that guy who says "I told you so" but, I told you so LOL
You are right. I was not aware until just now that NoThrills was someones call sign. I have changed the name of the file and printed an appology in the listing.
Thank you for your comments.
Like yourself...I'm anxiously trying and struggling to become a avid chef in cooking ROMs. Is it possible that you could direct a noobie like me to a tutorial or Wiki about what steps you took to take out most of the different AT&T apps and such? This is something I've been trying to do for some time now and have failed at almost every attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciative so that I can further my cooking expertise. If you don't know where to find information could you possibly post a Wiki or tutorial on how you done it yourself?
EDIT: Can someone mirror this through MegaUpload? Rapidshare keeps giving me an error.

Great Entrance, Anthony, but I welcome your "stripped" WWE Rom to the Kaiser community..
Great stuff for those who like it plain and simple.
Good to see so many new chefs around.
Look forward to seeing more of your work in future.
WIzard200x,
"Stripped" .... Yes that would of been perfect
Next time, I will think a little harder before giving my creations a name.
Thank you everyone for your understanding !!

Could you help a fellow new chef out and give me some pointers on how you edited some of the files?

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a quicker way to do it, but for me it was a case of locating each and every file for the apps not wanted and deleteing them. Then I went through each rgu file and removed all entries concerning the programs no longer installed. You also have to go through each provxml file to locate any references in there as well, otherwise the rom might develop instabilities. I also did some very minor dsm extractions.
My ROM will decomplie again, so if your looking for a basic architecture to begin on, download my rom and extract it.
Hope that helps

What did you use to view the rgu, provxml files, and dsm files?
I keep getting an error saying that I'm already downloading a file from RapidShare when I try to download either version

Which files are you refering too :
I used notepad for the following files
.provxml
.rgu
and a HEX editor for:
.dsm
I can not report to much success with the dsm files. My knowledge of this area is limited. I was able to remove some lines that were not wanted, but some of the files did not translate well.
Hope that helps
That helps me out quite a bit. I'm going to retry what I've been battling all night and see what I can come up with
