I have a treo 750 unlocked. (originally cingular but I'm with Tmobile - not sure if that matters) Tmobile tech guy recommended opera mini when I told him i was having trouble browsing some sites...
If I understand correctly i need a few things in order to download it.
I tried getting it right off my phones browser and I see the file in my folder but when I click it the message says (" there is no application associated with operaminibrowser- Run the application first then open this file from within the application)
I would love to do that but don't see any other option to run the application... maybe i'm not looking in the right place so let me know
assuming I have to do some extra steps I see that I might need the following
Risidoro_Intent_MIDlet_Manager_v11.zip (when I download and extract this the directions say to extract the .cab file but there are lots of files in there and when I open them all I get is a scrambled text file
I just want to have a full browser and be able to get google or yahoo maps for directions.
someone please help
thanks
Have you tried to download it off your PC and put the cab file on your device via activesync?

I recommend this too. Also, I heard it works well if you download IBM's java emulator with it. I like full Opera more then mini and it is free as it is a Beta right now (8.65).
yes I downloaded the files below but no applications would run... perhaps this is where that midlet manager comes in but that won't run anything either.
1. Select preferred language for Opera Mini:
2. Transfer these files to your phone, and install them according to your phone's installation procedure:
opera-mini-advanced.jad
opera-mini-advanced.jar
actually I re-read your question and no I didn't transfer it to my device then try to run it so I'll do that now.
thanks
I'll let you know if it works

That is, just click opera-mini-advanced.jar from inside File Explorer - you won't even need the JAD file.

Hi,
I have a question. I have for example SPB Mobiele Shell. We all now this has to be installed via a PC and i needs a serial to install. I have the program and the serial and i would like to make a cab-file of this 2. I have a program to make cab-files, WinCE CAB Manager. Can anyone explain to me how i can do this? I like to have this on my SD-card and like to install it from there in case of emergency's. I hope someone can help me with this.
Thx
many activesync install exe's
can be renamed to zip and one can out the cab files
give it a try

Tried that but no luck. I think this is not what i mean. I would like to turn this exe into a CAB and the key included. So when i install the Cab i don't have to register.
one would think the program maker took precautions to make that impossible otherwise your cab could be distributed as a pretty easy free version
you can try to single out what files it depend
on and make a cab file from cratchs
and if the exe or dll files got alter when the serial was given
that cab would be reg'd
otherwise you would have to find out what registries was altered in the
serial process and make a reg which which did those alterations
and get the cab file to run it
Most installations that require you to install through activesync end up leaving a cab file behind. Check Program Files\Activesync\SPB... for the cab file. If it is not there restart the installation but after you have executed the setup file leave it alone and search for the cab file again. I hope this is what you were looking for
ALL exe that install via activesync have a cab, some are hidden in the profiles temporary files, some auto-delete once installed, so leave the application hanging in the install and do a search for recent files and sort by date/time (remember to allow it to scan hidden and system folders). a lot go into the activesync directory, some go into program files, i have even found some that go into the internet explorer temp files, install, and then delete themselves. The most common hiding place is your computers profile temp folder --- typically found under
C:\Documents and Settings\PROFILE\Local Settings\Temp
just dig around, its not to difficult once you find the 3 most basic hiding places.
good luck.

You can simply download the CAB files from SPB site directly.

I have run into a similar situation where my installation was failing due to the huge size of a CAB file.
In my case, the size of the CAB was nearly 23mb and the free storage left was around 26mb. This made the installer fail as it ran out of space midway during the install.
I know one thing for sure was that the PC installers (Exes that would run on the PC that would extract the CAB on the device) would extract the CABs and put them in \windows\appmgr\install folder and would trigger the installer on the device.
So during my second attempt, when the device prompted for installation location "device or storage card", I opened up the explorer on the device (guess you can do the same thing with Windows Explorer since your would stay connected over USB using Activesync) and went into \windows\appmgr\install folder and made a copy of the cab to the storage card (you can copy to your PC as well).
Exited the installer and then installed the cab from the storage card and the installation went fine.
Not sure about how the SPB apps work since there are two options during the PC install. Trail or Registered version. Based on the option chosen, it would either extract the necessary CAB (either trial or registered). I hope it creates a "Registered" version of the app in the CAB after you follow the above steps.
Hope this helps.
PS: I wish that the standard install location on the device "\windows\appmgr\install" be changed to the storage card by some tweaks. So far not successful in finding/getting one.

Now i have everything in registered Cab-files on my SD-card. Now i can make the switch to WM6. I'm dutch and have a P3300 and i guess it will take some time before HTC wil come with a dutch WM6 upgrade, so maybe not the place to ask but do you now where i can find a original English WM6 for the P3300?
I tried searching, found this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310788&page=2 but it's not answering my question.
My Kaiser came with SPB GPRS Monitor and Sprite Backup. Both came as an installation disk (exe format) to be installed through a PC. Now, I'm looking at a way to make CAB for carrying both so that anytime I do a hard reset or reflash ROM, I can re-install both without using PC. Looking at the thread, I tried opening up the .exe and able to get the Cab files (there're 2, named 1 and 2 for each setup executable extracted), but copying the Cab and running it on my Kaiser won't work.
Is there any way? I try avoiding using 'cracked' cab apps .. I have it as bundled for the Kaiser, there should be a legit way for me to have it as cabs ..
There is a way.
run the installer from your PC. when the installation screen comes up asking you to choose between storage card and device, DONT CHOOSE. instead, run a file manager and search for the cab file. it usually goes either in windows/appmgr or in application data/volatile
What if in this case, it doesn't ask, it immediately says check your WM device, there's further instruction.
Second question: is the search done on the PC or the WM?
I'll definitely give it a try .. and thanks!
if u got activesync installed on your PC, run the exe files and find the .cab files on program files/microsoft activesync folder
semoga berhasil
Thank you. Terima Kasih Will give it a try
the cab file doesn't always appear on your PC.. but it does always appear on your PPC
look for it in your PDA when it tells you to look for further instructions..
WinRAR (rarlabs.com) is free and will extract most files from EXE installer archives. However, if WinRAR won't then UniversalExtractor will. You can search for it on google and download a demo.
THANK YOU
Thanks to all who has responded.
I managed to find the CAB files under PC's respective folders (Some are under Active Sync, some like Holux, created it's own folder). Tested some of the CABs found there and it worked. Now I'm a happy camper, got all of the CABS that I need (especially GPRS Monitor )
Last question:

look for it in your PDA when it tells you to look for further instructions..

I always do this to extract cab files from a exe installer and most of the time the cab file can be found at windows/appmgr/install
very useful and a serious time saver
Sticky or Wiki?

Sticky no.. but i will add it to the guides thread soon..
First of all, I've to say that I spent several hours trying to make Opera 10 working correctly with the TouchFLO interface. Trust me, you can't do this editing the registry or other files.
The only way to run Opera Mobile 10 (beta) from the Internet tab is using a little app called "VJBrisk.exe". I've found these informations here; they were written in order to launch Skyfire, but I've done the same thing to launch Opera and it worked.
Here's a little tutorial. Hope this will finally help you.
1) Install Opera Mobile 10 (http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/) into your mobile. It will prompt you to set Opera as default browser. Say YES.
2) Download VJBrisk (http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJBrisk) and install it on your mobile
3) Copy "VJBrisk.exe" (you can find it into the apps list -start, etc.-) with a good explorer (I reccomend Total Commander) into the \Windows folder
4) Rename "OperaL.exe" to "OperaL.exe.bak" (who knows...) into the \Windows folder
5) Rename "VJBrisk.exe" (\Windows) to "OperaL.exe"
6) Create a shortcut to Opera Mobile 10 (you can do this with Total Commander by clicking File - >>>>> - Create shortcut) and move this shortcut to the \Windows folder
7) Rename the shortcut to "OperaLLNK.lnk" into the \Windows folder
8) Do a soft reset
That's all. 99% working on my HTC Touch Viva.
I say 99% because if you click the "All bookmarks" link (not the bookmarks...) on the left, Opera will show you an error page saying "Could not open file. You tried to access the address file://localhost/Bookmarks, which is currently unavailable..."; the same for the "Browser" link on the right. I think this is a sort of Opera Mobile 10 bug, maybe it will be resolved with the final release.
Haven't had a chance to try this yet, and don't plan to until I can get the zoombar to work with opera 10. That, or a good touchflo port to the blueangel. Thanks for this, though
This operation is not working with my Touch Pro and Opera Mobile 10 Beta2u enhanced version.
I can't try with this model, sorry
But I think this operation has to work with all HTC mobiles, because it just replaces the original OperaL.exe with another that links to the new Opera 10...
Now, when you click on the globe, what happens?

I've tried this way before using VJBrisk, but it failed for me.
Anyway, I think it's not "comfortable" to copy the entire content of the Opera folder into \Windows, what if you then upgrade to a newer version?
When I tap on the Internet tab is written:
! Opera10-armv4i.exe
The file "Opera10-armv4i" cannot be opened. Either it is...
...restoring this file.
I checked also in registry what is under /HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/DEFBROWSER and it is already with Opera10-armv4i.exe
Is "Opera Mobile 10 Beta2u enhanced version" = Opera10-armv4i.exe ???

I don't know if the enhanced version has the same executable file name, but I guess yes, so check again if the OperaLLNK.lnk file correctly redirects to Opera10-armv4i.exe and remember to place it (the .lnk) in the \Windows folder together with the vjbrisk.exe renamed to OperaL.exe

This file is a ROM file on my system (Touch HD, Orange ROM 1.59.61.2) and it seems it cannot be re-named. Any work-arounds?
Thanks!
Easier to understand instructions!!!
Opera 10 doesn't have the same OperaL.exe file like 9 did. So Touch Flo is hard coded to execute the OperaL.exe file which doesn't exist.
1st off, nothing needs to be changed in the Registry!!!
1. I basically pasted the 'VJBrisk.exe' into the Windows Directory.
2. Renamed 'VJBrisk.exe' to 'OperaL.exe' in the Windows Directory.
3. Went to Program Files\Opera Mobile 10 \Opera10-armv4i.exe (your Opera exe might be named something different. I'm using Opera Mobile 10 Beta3 Repack) and created a shortcut of that exe and copied the shortcut to the Windows Directory.
**If you want to use a different browser or have some other executable launch, just make a shortcut to what you want to launch**
4. Renamed the Shortcut to 'OperaLLNK.lnk'
5. Test that the 'OperaL.exe' now fires off the Opera Browser. If it doesn't, you probably have a typo.
6. Now go to Touch Flo and press the 'Launch Browser' globe icon and now Opera should open up for you! You can also add your new Push pages and they should launch as well.
7. Only problem now is that it opens 2 tabs in the browser, 1st tab of my Start Page like normal, but then on top of that it opens a 2nd tab to the path of 'file://localhost/home'. Anyone know why it does this? It doesn't do this when the browser is launched anywhere else besides the Touch Flo launching of it. Is it maybe looking for AT&T's MEdiaNet home page? If so, where can I restore the link to MEdiaNet's homepage or can I just tell it to go to some other webpage?
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!

I've been messing with this for hours and finally figured it out...
Don't rename vjbrisk.exe to replace OperaL.exe because it won't work. Instead rename vjbrisk.exe to OperaL.exe in another folder and then COPY that file over the top of OperaL.exe in the Windows folder.
Finally this worked for me. The Windows\OperaL.exe file is locked in ROM and can only be copied over and not renamed over. I guess some Windows Mobile devices don't have this file locked and renaming over works for them.
Confirm success and advice not to do it
I confirm Darkbsoul. The only way to switch to Opera 10 by now is using VJBrisk. The procedure is straightforward and works immediately! No need for a soft reset.
However, as much as I like Opera 10, I will refrain from dumping HTC's original Opera 9.5 build 15316 as my default TF3D browser:
1. The error message is ugly on your face each time you fire up Opera 10 from TF3D.
2. VJBrisk's approach is somewhat slower: you run VJBrisk, which in turn runs Opera 10.
3. I lose my saved Opera 9.5 bookmarks
4. I can't use the nice Opera 10 3X3 start pages grid
I've got some solution, not perfect (and I think not for Sense, but only for TF3D), but it's one way how to launch Opera mobile 10 from internet tab.
Open \Windows\27c65cbd_manila in notepad and there you can add link to any program you want. You should have there a link to Youtube, so just copy&paste it and edit Text, Executable and ImagePath to anything you want. Don't be surprised with the qtc extension used in image path for Youtube, you can use for example PNG and it will work.
hi just want to say thank you, works like a charm on my hd2 with a custom rom that only have internetexplorer cooked in. i installed opera 10 to the device. rename vjbrisk.exe to iexplore.exe and the link to opera10 to iexploreLNK.lnk. then copied both files to my windows folder and bingo i can use the internet tab/favorites of 'htc sense' to start opera. only bad thing is i cant start the real internetexplorer anymore but who cares.

if a file is in rom then you dont have to care about it. files in rom cant be overwritten, so if you copy a file with the same name over a rom file the rom file is still there, its just somewhat 'invisible'. if you want to recover the rom file simply delete the file you copied over it, and the rom file will reapear.

Hi. I hope I'm posting this in the right section, but how would I install apps on my T-Mo MyTouch 3G Slide, that are offered on this or any other forum? Do I download them to my PC and first start the installation there, somehow? Or how would I do it??
I'm very new to this whole Android world. I just bought my phone.
Thanx for the help!!
Applications in this forum usually comes in the form of .apk's. An apk is an installer file for Android and must be run from the phone.
So you have two options when you find programs here on this forum:
1. You download the file on your PC, connect the phone to your PC and mount the SD-card, copy the file over and run it from your phone
2. Browse to the forums via your phone and download them directly and run them
It can be done via dropbox, chrome2phone, email etc as well if you want to

Thank You!!
You can put it anywhere on the SD-card, just be sure you have some sort of file manager from the market and remember where you put it After that you just run it and it should install (if you get several options when you run the file, the correct one to run it with is "Package Installer").
The files will be in the format programname.apk

Hi all. I just got my Xperia X2 which is my first smartphone ever.
I'm very excited about it but my Lock Slider is rather slow.
I browsed a bit and found a few possible solutions but how do I install applications like this? This is what I want to download for my phone at the moment, but can someone please tell me how I extract it properly? And how to send it to my phone in the easiest way?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781784
Howdy there,
Though I do not have any experience with your phone, I would;
1. download any give utility I wanted via my Personal Computer and then
2a. plug tha phone in my PC via USB (set it to 'Diskdrive') and copy the file(s) or
2b. plug tha phone in my PC via USB (set it to 'ActiveSync') and copy the file(s) or
2c. unplug the SDCard and stick it into my 72+1_Cardreader and then copy the files or
1b/2d. download everything via my phone (while using 'Compact View').
Start using http://filext.com if you do not know what to do with certain file extentions. Like;
pdf, arj, rar, zip, 7z
Anyway know that *.cab files can be installed on your smartphone via its file browser.
Success ,
What utility is prefered? I got no clue at all really. :-( And when I'm clicking on your shortcut "Compact View" it just goes to the home-page of forum.xda? Why is that? :-|
Compact View is for use with your phone.
Did you visit your phone's specific site here on XDA?
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 runs on Windows Phone 6.5, meaning there are a whole host of apps you can download onto it.
You can install additional applications on your phone, but they must be compatible with Windows Mobile version 6.5.3.
It is possible to remove the applications that you have installed, but you cannot remove applications that come with the phone.
To install an application use Explorer (find it in Program Files);
Download the application to your PC
If the application file is in compressed format, such as .zip, first extract the file
Read any installation instructions or documentation that comes with the application
Connect your phone to the computer with a USB cable.
[*]Double-click the application file (usually of .exe format (use ActiveSync to install)) to start the installation. If it is of .cab format then copy the file to your phone and tap (and hold) the file from your phone to start installation.
