hi , can i update a rom of PNA from wince to wm6 ? - General Topics

I i m very interested to install wm6 into my mdpna 200 medion . it is possible ?? it has the same hardware of mitac mio 168 .
thanks!

I have pionner pna and I'm running wince 4.2
As far upgrading the os on the device it's somewhat complicated as you need to dump the current firmware and extract the drivers and probably the wince drivers will not work with wm6. So unless you have a good knolodge in writting drivers for your device and have a development package from ms/wm6 that will be not possible.
Resuming: no, sorry.

ok thanks a lot

WM2005 available from Microsoft!!

You can get the WM2005 Evaluation from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...50-d311-4f67-9fb3-23e8b8944f3e&DisplayLang=en
Now what we need is someone to build a rom for the magician for it. Come on guys you know your s%#t better than anyone out there. Get us a working jam rom going here.
anyone has try this?
why it need large harddisk space (600MB) for temporary internet files, much bigger then we need for ROM, Extended ROM and Radio???
what is the consequencies when the 120 days trial period expired?
or maybe someone could fixed the current WM2005 bugs with this trial wm2005? just wonder, is it an emulation program for windows ce?
It's for PC not for Pocket PC, just an emulation of WM2005 and run on PC.
No it is not for PC, you must read better. It is the core operating system with emulators for PC. How do you think they develop and test roms. You think they just slap a bunch of binary code together and upload it ro a ppc and test as they go. You must have emulators to test your software. This is not only for device development but also for application developers to test their software on a OS without having to install to a ppc.
Hi,
I read it already, and I think it is WM2005 emulator only. With Software Development Kit (SDK) to create a program to run on WM2005.
I don't there is a ROM or something like a part of ROM to cook for our real device's ROM.
Best regards,
Arto.

yes it does include the SDK and emulators but also includes the platform builder to create your OWN Win CE 5 roms. Just building one now for the magician.
don't forget himalaya if you develope one.
Building as in programming and developing, or building as in compiling and installing?

The WinCE 5.0 Dev kit is around for some time now. It is not gona be easy to make a working rom for the magician. The dev kit is an standard environment to develope CE roms but you have to get or create all the hardware (magician) drivers yourself. I don't think you can create a rom for the magician just like that, but I hope you prove me wrong.
Please note that WinCE 5.0 is not equal to WM2005 ....

To my understanding, WinCE 5.0 is the core of WM2005. WM2005 is base on WinCE 5.0. So if you have WinCE 5.0 you don't have all the function(e.g. user interface) of WM2005. Please correct me if i am wrong.

i am correcting you now wen building your wince 5.0 rom you also include the user interface. Or wateva u want inside the CE ROM.
This is NOT WM2005. It is Windows CE v5, which is the core OS that is used with WM2005...but there is NO Wm2005 in it. It is an operating system without a Windows Mobile interface.
WinCE is Operating System without PocketExcel, PocketWord, etc. No licensing for those microsoft application. Also it is standard user interface, not like WM. We can say it is a Operating System without microsoft office on it.
WM is WinCE + application like PocketExcel, PocketWord, etc, completed with interface for what we see as Windows Mobile.
In my understanding, it is cheaper to use WinCE than WM
Best regards,
Arto.
NB: Yes, you need to know the hardware and memory address for those function in specific unit to cook ROM for specific unit (magician, himalaya, etc).
hey guys....
when i try to upgrade to wm2005 from wm2003se i get country id error.....GOT XDA II .......ive tried to go to bootloader mode and then run upgrade process but same results...?? any help ???

wpa2 support prophet

hi everyone!
I have an imate jamin upgraded with the latest official ITALIAN rom)
I'm looking for a way to add the wpa2 support to the wifi connection..
and I have some questions:
does wm6 have that? Or it depends on the hardware?
if yes, since I never had any problem working on wm5, is it possible to upgrade my device to a newer (official or cooked) wm5 ROM, witch has wpa2 support??
thanks and sorry for my bad english!
if you have one of the newer ROMs flashed on your device (WM 6.1), then simply go here and install the little fix and it will work (at least it did for me):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469666
thanks for the answer!
I know this fix is for wm6, but anyway I've tried it on my wm5 device..
while copying the file into the \windows\ folder appears this error: "Denied Access"...
do you know how to delete a protected file?
And do you know if exists something like this on wm5?
(I prefear, if possibile , don't upgrade the rom)
Sorry mate, have no clue to either of your questions... I haven't used WM5 in more than 3 years. Maybe one of the ROM cooks knows the answer here. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum
By now not any wm6.5 is STABLE, and if it´s your first time flashing I would strongly recommend to install a 6.1 stable ROM, for that I can recommend Tomal 8.5 or 8.81 ROM´s, they are just great!!
Also if you can flash in XP is easier than in Vista. anyway here instructions for flashing with vista http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313001
For learning how to, please reade the Wiki here:

Good luck and please dont forget to vote!
Hello,
Welcome to the forum,
I would strongly stick with what Orb says here and stick to 6.1. as well as 6.5 being very new, it also uses a lot of ram to run. you find yourself having to reset to reclaim used ram. To start using 6.5 you need a 128mb upgrade.
TAKE YOUR TIME, do nothing until you are SURE you know what to do!
Have fun
Jay

Just by reading these guides have become confused.
The first thing i woud like to understand is what you can see in bootloader mode:
when i put my PDA in bootloader mode i can see only a dark monitor with this 2 writtens :
upward : "serial"
bottom : "v1.00"
This is my IPL/SPL version ? So if i've understood well my PDA it's a G3 model, is it right ?
Looking at this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
i've understood i need to downgrade my PDA to 1.05 ROM, but mine have 1.00 ROM (look upward, refering to booloader mode), so this step will be not a downgrade for me, is it right ?
Could you help to understand this first things ?
Bye
johnjohnmel
HI
You're doing OK! it is indeed a G3 and when you plug it in to the pc's usb it will say USB instead of serial. now follow THIS to upgrade your bootloader. its off the WIKI HERE. read it, it will tell you loads. The biggest problem you will have is running Vista, I only use XP so I cant help you there.
Jay
EDIT...............just spotted THIS about Vista, hope it helps.

Hello,
I would now suggest you download a good stable rom, such as TOMALS 8.5 STANDARD build rom onto your today screen connect your pda into the USB port and then follow the instructions for flashing in vista it will then load onto your pda. Now hard reset.
thats it! You can try others later on but its best to try a good solid stable rom first. Like I said use the standard build first.

Hi, thanks a lot. Finally i solved.
It's MORE SIMPLE that it could seem.
So it's not more necessary to CID-unlock and to download UniversalRUU, becuase in the last ROM there is just inside program to upload new ROMs.
Maybe it's necessary to change WIKI instrunctions.
What do you think ?
Bye and thanks a lot again.

Only 2 things go wrong.
Indeed it seems it doesn't function at all GPRS with my Tim italian Network. I've to try UMTS with 3 italian network.
Maybe it's a RADIO Rom version problem.
What can i do to solve this issue ?
Also i can i see in my Home the tipical screens with shortcuts to applications, contacts etc.

System tray is one way to add icons to the home screen, however they only appear in a row at the bottom and it is a bit of a fiddle. you might be better off adding a third party software like mobile shell 3.0 to your rom so you can customise your PDA.
