Hello!
I am using Faria's WM6 Rom. It was working excellent in the beginning but now all of a sudden it started asking for formatting the miniSD card. I formatted it once thinking that maybe I never formatted it before on my Pocket PC. But for some reason, this formatting the card message keeps on popping up again and again. I am thinking maybe whenever my phone battery becomes low, it asks for formatting the card. But I doubt this. Can anyone suggest a solution(s) to this problem.

Just to clarify, you're asking about the Wizard? Your signature is throwing me off. Anyhow, if you do have a Wizard (which you must if you're running Faria's WM6), what other 3rd party apps have you installed and/or are running? Also, when exactly is the message popping up?

Try using it in desktop/laptop using a card reader. That can give some clue.
I tried it on my desktop and still the card is asked to be formatted. Is the card itself the problem?

Yes I do own a Wizard but has not updated my Signature yet! I will do a hard reset on the Wizard and then let you know of when it starts asking me to do the formatting every time I soft reset.

On your PC try a unconditional format of the SC (not a quick format) ... but, IMO, you have a defective SC.

I did the unconditional formatting on my PC using the SD adapter. After it got formatted, I took the SD card out from the reader and put it back in again. Again I was given the message to format the card when I tried going into the SD card. Yes I think my card is defective then. I never had this problem until few months ago I lost my data in the card when it asked me to format the card on Pocket PC.

Yeah, it really does just sound like your card is bad. Come to think of it, I had the same issue with an SD card a year or so back (not for this device though). That also was a dud.

I have this strange problem.
today suddenly my sd card stoped working. so the first thing i suspected was that my sd card was broke but it turned out that my sd card was working fine but my himalaya doesnt show show the contents of the sd card.
if i check on my hima i see that the expansion slot is in use. so it knows that the sd card is inserted.
if i put in my sd card or pull it out the screen lights up again so that meens that the contacts are still intact.
i tested my card in my cardreader no problems. i tried another card still the same issue. i formatted the card didnt help either.
i already flashed a new rom. i cleaned all the contacts just in case that was the problem.
i checked all of the topics on this forum about this problem but it turned out that all of there sd cards where broke and that is not the issue here.
so i hope some one else can help me because i am desperate at the moment.
This may sound stupid but, do you use "WM5 Storage" ? Maybe you forgot to disable it after using it ? I have already been in this case, and this would be the reason why you can't read your card.
Even if you flash a new rom, if you forget to do it the right way (cleaning the registry hive and formating integrated storage), settings may still be there, and that would be why it does not solve your problem.
Try loading the "WM5 Storage" program and check if it is activated. If so, just disable it
I hope this helps...

There are many reasons.
What I have observed, sometimes, it's because of the battery. There are some memory problems when you buy a new battery, actually, the warning is written on the battery pack.
So, before you buy, try to explore your folders if the storage card is visible. If not, ask for another stock of battery.
Sometimes, the battery is low and maybe the system blocks the usage of the sd card.
Sometimes, you got to check your folders via active, maybe there is such a file with a filename/s "ignore". I just forgot the whole filename but it definitely is read like that in a way. Delete it/them.
Or sometimes you need to softreset or clean your card slot or reformat the card. I just don't have any idea how you can clean them.
With regards to wm5torage, it has options, when checked hides the storage folder icon, and even sometimes erase all your storage card files. So be careful of using the options.
I use a 4G card on Atom Life, running WM 6.1. It will cause the system slowing down a lot after soft reset. Try to open \start menu\program\games (I have some games installed on card), it takes several minutes to load the menu. However, once complete, it will run very fast next time. It is ok when using a 1G or 2G card anyway.
I wonder if someone has a solution for it?

It happened to me 3 times in 3 days. The entire contents disappeared with no reason. I have never experienced this issue, but it is getting me out of my nerves.
My SD card is a Sandisk 8 GB SDHC.
I have scanned the card using a card reader and it seems that all the files are there, but they're unlinked. The space is used, but the files are not accesible, so when I go to Storage Card, I find it empty.
It's TOTALLY annoying. Please, give your experience if you have this problem.
Have you lost all your MicroSD card contents and you don't know why?
My Sandisk 8gb card came with a USB2 card reader that is great speed-wise; but twice I lost all the data when using it. I didn't realize it might be related at the time, but then I misplaced the reader and switched to using the adapter kind -- the SD sized thing that you slip the microSD card into (my laptop has a SD card slot). It's been a few months now, and with constant switching of the card between my Touch, Touch Cruise and laptop, I've not lost the data since.
While I can't say for sure it's related, it hasn't happened since I stopped using the USB adapter that shipped with the card.
I think it's not related to the use of the adapter since the first time I lost my files I was on a route using Tomtom 7. In my way back, I had to go without the navigator :S No maps, and the videos and pictures that I took, totally lost.
Fortunately I have an application that is pure gold to recover every disaster that could happen (recovers partitions even after formatting the disk, and files with their original names). It's not pleasant for me to use this application ("[email protected] Partition Recovery Enterprise"), but this is becoming too usual...
By the way I'm using udK's WM6.1 ROM R6, even though I don't think it's related to it.
My MicroSD is formatted in FAT32 with 32KB clusters.
Any ideas about how to fix this problem?
The last time I lost the contents I was about to sync music with WMP (with the USB connected).
Good luck... I'm using the ROM that shipped with the device. Guess the only way to know if it's related to a cooked-ROM is to re-install the official ROM and see how things go.
I'm using HTC original ROM and 8Gb Sandisk card with no problem for more than 3 months. My fingers are crossed
I'm using HTC original ROM and 8Gb Sandisk card with some issues (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407046&highlight=bodisson), but no files are missing.
Sometimes I get extra file names with really weird characters. Usually, if I reinsert the card, these go away and I can access normally the card.

did you use something like sktools for change pathes of temp/cookes files of I.E or so on?
If yes it could following happend:
You change the destination path for some application like InternetExplorers Temp and Cookies pathes to point to Storage Card.
After this you removed the card on any time.
The device cannot find the path to the Storage Card and creates a folder "Storage Card" on the root of the internal device memory.
If you insert a card again, it show you onliy the content of the new folder.

Dudes,
I'm bought a sandisk 8gb micro SDHC about a month ago.
Filled it almost to the brim with music and podcasts.
I regularly uses great programs like S2P and BeyondPod for music and podcasts to listen with my Bluetooth A2DP headset.
Had no problem until recently where the entire card is not readable anymore
Symptoms:
1) the phone started not to recognise the SDHC, where it could not detect any inserted card
2) the failures on the SDHC gave me corrupted files. I was able to repaired these by using the Windows XP chkdsk and fix error command
3) by the 3rd time i did this, the card was not readable at all
Suspects:
1) every time polaris hang, i would press the reset button. I suspect tat this would corrupt some files (possibly even the entire SDHC ??)
2) every time polaris hang, i think the phone was running more than 1 app at the same time. In my case, it was probably S2U2 and S2P or BeyondPod, together with BT A2DP.
Don't think it was caused by these great apps, but rather the way Polaris or WindowsPPC handles multi tasking
Will be returning the 8gb SDHC soon for a replacement.
Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again ?
(other than not running multiple apps at the same time)
Thx
BTW, i'm running windows 6.0, the original HTC polaris rom
Also have a Scandisk 8gb card in my Polaris...
Problems im suffering is that now and then the storage card looses connection.... I can not see it on my mobile and also its not showing up using ActiveSync.
It happens really often and mostly when im using software that depends on it like IGO. The application crashes because it can not access the files needed.
Ive read somewhere that this only happens with scandisk cards so im considering buying a kingston card.. can anyone verify this??
Well the best thing is to make sure, you safely remove your hardware before removing the sd card from the pc or otherwise change the device settings of the memory card to "optimize for quick removal" in the device manager
I recently switched from a non-sdhc card (1 GB) to a SDHC 4GB kingston.
weirdest of all things is that i lose certain applications, but not all!
For instance i have TomTOm installed. Stopped functioning and lost the icon. But SK Tools still works. :S
I'm not very happy with this, since i use my phone ALOT with TomTom and all the other apps i installed on it. Especially at work.
Gonna try the artemis sd fix... Hope it works.
Could it be that you'd made a rom-upgrade with the sd-card in the phone? I had the same problem - lost files on sd-card - with the original 1GB-Card and a new 4-GB-SDHC. I think (and hope) that leaving the card while upgrading has reasoned this issue. After reformating the card in the pda the problem has gone for me . Thank you for your answers...

Yes, i actually did leave the card while upgrading. But i didn't lose any data until a few days AFTER the upgrade. And i frequently soft-reset the device.
I solved my problem (i think) by deleting 'program files' on the storage card and making a new 'program files' folder. It works for a few day now. (keeps fingers crossed)
I did a ROM upgrade (udK Diamond R7) without the microSDHC card, and yesterday night I lost all my files for the nth time.
The space remains used. I was listening to a podcast (that was stored into the card), and suddenly, when I ran the File Explorer to do something, all the files were missing. The podcast played correctly, but when I tried to re-open it, the file could not be found.
I'm feed up with this problem. It is like having no card at all...
Please, we need somebody to fix it. Is it happening to other brands of only Sandisk?
Thanks.
I simply turned my phone off. Then back on again and storage card had turned into storage card 2. Everything I had on the card was lost. So I carried on using the card and now its storage card 3 and the data from when it was called card 2 is now lost.
copilot often asks me to insert map data.
Ive found that if I remove the card and close all programs before I turn the phone off I dont lose data.
O2 told me to send it in for replacement. That was months ago. Not had chance yet. Might be too late!?

Do you mean that the problem might be the cooked ROM? Maybe we can isolate the problem with this approach.
I have an HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125) and I run both PIE and Opera Mobile 8.5, sometimes both at the same time. Anyway, I originally had moved the cache files to the SD card to save internal memory on the device. A few months after I got the device, the SD card failed. I thought it might have been due to very frequent access (read/write) by the browser operation. Has anyone else experienced issues with using the SD card for the browser cache. I have a long commute and do heavy browsing, for up to 2 hours/day.
Thanks,
I assume the problem is not with the reading/writing.. probably with the software itself.. unless your wizard is truly overused.
What exactly are you asking? how to overcome the problem if the SD card failing? or how to retrieve the info from it?
I use my SD Card for RSS reader cache... have done so for years (on my Himalaya) and haven't had a problem...yet

I was just wondering if anyone else had an issue with the card failing? It may have been a hardware failure. I read somewhere that there were a large but finite number of read/write cycles for a SD card. My thought was that if I was spending a lot of time surfing and the card was constantly reading and writing to the same area that it might have caused it to burn out. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing. Since then I have only used my SD card for storage and seldom used programs however, recently I started having memory issues and was thinking of moving the cache to the card again.
I can tell you that the probability of that happening is so minimal, you will probably be hit by lightning before that happens.
Of course, a hardware failure may be the problem.. a nice phat SD card costs nothing nowadays. I suggest you try to somehow read it on a comp and bring back the files and move them to a new card. of course, before buying a new card you should check that the problem is with the card rather than the device.
I have been trying to install Android on my HTC TP2 (tilt) for a couple of months and managed it with the last version, 2.2, and it appears to work great. Looks the Dogs B*... Very pleased.
Now the crunch. I can not use it because there is no sound. If there is an alarm, a notification, a call, nothing happens. I have checked the settings and everything is on "SILENT" and can not be taken off..
I have another, less important issue, which may be the cause of the first. The phone states taht there is no music, videos, pictures or documents, etc. Further investigation it states I have no storage card installed. Clearly there is as I use it in the Windows mode and to load Android!
I have seen threads here and there that talk of reformatting the SD card to FAT 16 or 32, but would that then prevent it working on my Windows mode?
Is there another fix, alternative?
It is recommended to format in Fat32, this will not cause any problem to the device, but make sure to back up your files
I had a nasty feeling you'd say that. I have ordered a new, much larger SD card, so will format that and the copy all the files over, that way if anything goes wrong I still have the origional... I'll feed back

OK. My new card arrived today, which is puzzling being a Sunday. That was a FAT32 and I copied the files I had saved on my desktop on to the card, and it works!!! GREAT... Only prob is some files WOULD NOT transfer, the card was locked even though listed as me as the owner, and I don't know how to change that. But it works
The old card. I have tried reformatting time and again. And am in the process of just copying the files back over and will give up at this point. It works in Windows and RUbuntu, if not Android
I do NOT think it is as simple as JUST format to FAT32, as both cards were FAT32 and only one would worked, and that only some, including Linux/Android files at that would copy over. The Android install needs to be less discerning.

FAT will not work as DDawg said above, must be FAT32.

All FAT32....
I do not know what the 8Gb card is as it does not say and I do not recall. the new 16Gb is a Kingston and that works fine, bar it was locked and some files would not transfer.
PS. How do I brows the devices folders.....?
If some files are copying and others not then those files could be the reason the phone is not working. Cards don't have a lock unless it's on a adapter with a lock option. And your mystery of your card coming today is that your card came yesterday but went to somebody elses house lol

The files that did not copy did not do so on the new card which was locked, or so it said it was. I could not fathom out what made the difference between files that copied over and those that did not. The types and permissions did not seem to be the difference.
As for the lock being on the adapter, maybe. I transferred the files over using an adapter and inserted directly in to the laptop. Might try the same with the old card and see if the lock appears, just for curiosity.
As for the post, you may well be right. Beep annoying though as I planned to do it all on Friday! loL

what i meant is that were there only certain files that were copying or nothing is copying in the new card? if there are certain files that are not copying then the problem is with the files and those could be the files causing the problem on the phone and for formatting, if you used a 8 gb card,it formatted in Fat as Fat32 is only there for cards up to 4gb, therefore i would recommend formatting it in the phone as well

Ah, with you.
The files that did not copy, I believe were working fine, because the apps they worked in worked and those that were just documents also worked. now the apps have been copied over without these elements they do not work or work properly. Also some were within the Android OS itself. There did not seem to be any differentiator between those that would and those that would not copy over. I'm certain there is something else.
FAT: Mmm Not sure I want to go through all that again, but I guess i'll have too.!!!! The phone works with my new 16Gb card, and MUST be accessing it because it has ring tones which are stored on the card and it has found my music and videos. BUT it does not see everything and I do not know how to browse the card... It also does not show up within the available memory. Whilst looking better than my WM, it seems a bit flaky
Also i have notices the red light is on the mute button an the rear of the phone.
Just tried to Format the SD Card from within the phone... Won't. Just flashes. Also will not Unmount.

you have to Format in Windows,ot android lol , as android is on the card, it cant format
also maybe ask this in the Tp2 sections, we got some good guys who will put in the help
OK, WM does not have a format facility/tool, so I put the card back in the laptop. Deleted it and then put back in the phone. The phone then formate it.
I then plugged the phone in to the laptop and copied all the files over, they all went bar 3, but then when I checked the folders all had gone over without hitch.
I then disconnected and started the phone.
In windows mobile it works, though CoPilot has lost its maps!
My Ubuntu and Android will not start. They stop in the script where it tried to open the SD Card, both of them.
I tried reinstalling Android and got the same problem. Now I am back to base
Back to start
OK, I am back where I started. I raised a different thread last night, because after al this I had a different problem, that it would not boot at all. It would get part way down the script and then stop, stating it could not open the card.
Since I plugged in to the laptop, deleted the SD card and reformatted as per all the threads using gParted. Again to FAT32
Now I am back where I started. Android boots and looks great, but there is no access to the SD card so no ringtones or media and all my files. A phone that won't ring is not very useful!

DAmn, wish i could help more, try to post in the TP2 section, we have great helpers there
All of a sudden apps on storage card fail to load.
After a few reboots they reappear at random, but disappear again on reset.
Did not have that problem with stock, but after flashing Infused 1.14 (and on) the issue appears even with the (rooted) stock rom.
Any ideas?
I am trying to determine if I need to return and replace the phone before I lose the option.
Thank you in advance.
Answering the question by myself, in case others encounter the same issue.
The external card had something corrupted, and when the system was mounting it, all mess ensued.
Backed up all the data and reformatted.
System appears ok for now
I just had this same problem or at least something very similar to it. Initially I thought it was the 32GB SD card being too big since I read Android had a 16GB external card limit. But those posts were from a year ago and when I searched deeper I read that 32GB cards were being use without size problems now. There was one issue that seemed to affect some people and that was that android could have problems formatting a card that big and that's how I installed it in my Infuse initially- I let the Infuse format it, then popped in in my Macbook Pro (in OSX) to copy over the contents from the previous 8G card. I believe I have hidden files set to show, so I should be copying over everything- though, could this method of upgrading the card be a problem too?
It worked for a couple days, but last night during a reboot I tried to access the app tray and didn't know the card was still being scanned. It froze and I couldn't get past the secondary media scan after many tries. I didn't realize that apps were being automatically installed to the card.
Anyway, I was gonna return the card, but after reading your post, I'm thinking again about corruption due to poor formatting as the problem, so I'll try it again when I get home. Thanks for your post. I really want to be able to use this larger card so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will solve the problem.
BTW, how did you format the card? I have Win7 x64Pro on my MBP as well if I need to use windows, but did you use FAT, FAT32, ExFat? I'm still a 'droid noob ;P. Thanks again!
