Where are the rom flashing guides? And does it need to unlocked? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 2005 Upgrading

Hi All,
I have just bought a hima off of eBay, and spent the last few hours reading this forum for it.
I have successfully removed the sim lock but, when it comes to rom flashing I think I am more confused than when I started
I have a wizard which I upgraded and my intention was to do the same to the hima as soon as I got it home. With the wiz, I had to remove the cid lock and the only thing which looks similar for the hima is a thread about the country id, which says it can't be done with a 1.06 bootloader (which i have). So I carry on reading... I find the poll about working buttons with wm5 and one of the poll options is bootloader 1.06... I must be mixing things up?
So my question is what must i do (or what is it called so I can look for it and read myself) to flash wm5 without bricking my device? I am assuming it's not as simple as - plug into usb - run upgrade - finished

d 1.66.00wwe
Thanks for any help (And I really thought my noob days were behind me)

The Step-by-Step Install or Upgrade Procedures:
1. Extract the decrypted versions of the nbf files
by entering the following commands at the command prompt:
xda2nbftool -x NK.nbf NK.nba 0x20040304
xda2nbftool -x Radio_.nbf Radio_.nba 0x20040306
2. Modify the operator ID in the nbfs to the value you require by entering the following commands at the command prompt substituting <operator> with the required value:
xda2nbftool -sd PH10 -so <operator> -sl WWE NK.nba
xda2nbftool -sd PH10 -so <operator> -sl WWE Radio_.nba
3. Update the crc values for each of the decrypted files
by entering the following commands at the command prompt:
xda2nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda2nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba (optional, only if you are installing radio ROM)
4. Encrypt the files back into the nbf files by entering
the following commands at the command prompt:
xda2nbftool -x NK.nba NK.nbf 0x20040304
xda2nbftool -x Radio_.nba Radio_.nbf 0x20040306
5. Start your device in bootloader mode by pressing and holding down:
DPad + PowerButton + ResetButton
After a second release ResetButton, then release the rest of them.
Your screen will show word "Serial" at the top and the bootloader Version 1.0x (x = 3, 6, etc.) below the screen.
You are in bootloader mode now.
6. Place your device in the cradle (or plug in USB cable), ensuring that the cradle is plugged directly into a USB port on your PC and not to a hub and that the power supply is connected to the cradle. It is also a good idea to disable any screensavers on your desktop PC.
Once your device is cradled, the text on the screen will change to "USB".
7. Run HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (or HimaUpgradeUt.exe if you changed operator ID & language using xda2nbftool.exe)
8. Sit back and wait for the Congratulations screen to be displayed on your PC. Your device will still be displaying 'Upgrading radio stack, please wait', but as long as the PC says it is done, then its all OK.
9. Detach your device from the cradle (or unplug USB cable).
10. Now you have to hard reset your device.
Press simultaneously: Reset Button + CameraButton + RecordButton.
Hold them pressed until the "Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.
Select the options as follows:
(to select items use Record Button, to change values use Camera Button)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
When done, press DPad and wait until OS starts.
You now have a Himalaya running the WM 5 with a 14 Mb persistent storage, 128 Mb Program storage & 16 Mb Extended ROM. Test drive the device, run your favorite applications & get the feel for a while.
Next: Increase your "Persistent Storage" from 14Mb to 30 Mb by Merging the Extended ROM with the Device Storage: Get More Persistent Storage Using Hima_DOC_Tool.
**RAMdisk: Newer ROM's like TofClock's 2.03aWWE do not need setup & modification of RAMdisk. All you need to do is to download the ROM with the preconfigured RAMdisk size you require.
A good choice is to select the 64Mb RAMdisk to give you 64Mb Program Storagfe & 64Mb RAMdisk.

- I never expected to find flashing instructions packaged with the rom
Welcome back V (I'll edit the title)
EDIT - seeing as there was no definitive reply to my actual questions, i'm writing them here for anyone else who reads this.
No unlocking is required to flash any rom (but if it's not o2 branded you must flash the no id version).
The guides are included in the rom package read me file. (enter bootloader, run ruu, hard reset, done - it is that simple).

spv-service?
Yes , but when I ran SPV-service : it say "Unknown Error 2146994773 in read operation"
Did you install cert.cab ? Did you application unlock your phone ?
I copied form NET
Just do exactly what it says here:-
Requirements
• An SPV C500 (this method apparently works for the C550 and C600 too)
• A USB Cable
• ActiveSync installed and working
• An Orange SIM (doesn't have to be active, though)
How to unlock the phone
1. Connect the phone to your computer, and verify ActiveSync connects ok.
2. Download 'regeditSTG.zip' and copy to the phone using ActiveSync. Make sure you use the zip file - the .exe alone will not properly work, and the phone can handle zip files natively.
3. Using the File Manager (Start, more, more, accessories, file manager on my phone) navigate to the directory you saved the file to, open the .zip file, and run the regedit.exe file inside.
4. To "application unlock" the phone, change the following registry values:
In: HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies
Change 00001001 from current value to 1
Change 00001005 from current value to 40
5. Turn the phone off and back on.
6. Download spv-services.zip to your PC, and unzip.
7. Copy the cert.cab file over to your phone, find it using File Manager, and let it run the cert.cab file. This will install an app signing certificate that the next step relies on.
8. Run the 'SPVServices.exe' file on your PC - it will communicate with your phone via activesync. Please note that this file connects to a remote server to do the unlocking calculations, so requires an internet connection. I also found that it doesn't work properly if you have IE7 (beta 2 in my case) installed. Rolling back to IE6 made the application work properly. Hopefully this will be resolved in a future release.
9. Finally, test the phone with your non-orange SIM card.
I hope this page helps some people unlock their phones for free without being ripped off by some of the online sellers. I didn't create any of the tools used to do this, so many thanks to the skilled individuals who did. "
I tried to run cert.cab and regedit.exe in SP but unsuccessful. I though , they have new IPL and SPL , also they have a newer lock's way.
Anybody can help me?
on my c600 i've used spv-services without problems

Help: when unlocking via Lockiwiz.bat

- I'm using O2 Wizard (MiniS)
- IPL/SPL: 2.21 (but when upgrade to 2.26 folow instruction from post "How to flash a new ROM to your Wizard... a little tutorial!", RUU said I'm in 2.26 - dont know what happening!!!. So I pass step "upgrade to 2.26".
- Download/Extract and open Lockiwiz.bat from C:\, typed "U" (Unlock)
- Mobi reboot.
- Open Lockiwiz.bat again, typed "C" (CIDUnlock)
- Get Error. Unfortunately, I miss the error!!! Poor me!
So I wonder that my MiniS unlocked or not! If this step not to be sure, it's will be dangerous to take step "Upgrade to WM6"!!! Please help me to determind that my MiniS was unlocked or not! Thanks in advance!
I tried to run Lockiwiz.bat again, type both U and C, it's only said "The system cannot find the path specified"!!!
What happen and what to do next??? huhu (

Download WST Tool run and apply the button marked "CID Action" to verify the CID locked/unlocked status,if it reports 'locked' reread the guide again or check out this excellent guide to use lokiwiz02b method correctly:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
Cheers
@zabardast_1 : I downloaded the lokiwiz02b but still get the error: "path not found"!
Please tell me where can I download the WST Tool (I tried to search but couldnot find).
Now I will re-run progress again... May get result within 1 hour... hope it's OK!
I will report later...
OK now... I found the bug:
For anyone meet the same error (path not found), right click at lokiwiz.bat to edit (default with NotePad) and add "\" infront of commands
\Utils\pdocread.exe -n 1 0x000000 0x10000 -b 0x4000 lock_backup.bin
\Utils\wizardunlock.exe lock_backup.bin -nolock -w unlocked.bin
\Utils\pdocwrite.exe -n 1 -b 0x4000 unlocked.bin 0x000000 0x010000
\Utils\preboot.exe
of each part "C", "U", "L". Just to tell Windows knows exactly where to find executeable file. This is a DOS batch command, a very old command of MicroSoft!
Now I'm upgrading ROM to T-Mobi 2.26 as instruction.... Thanks all!
For newbie (as me): if you do it right, your command windows should be like this

But what version of WM6 is the best for me? Many WM6 ROM out there and I read wiki but cannot mae decision what version should I use... Can anyone please tell me...
Are you sure you CID unlocked your phone? Be careful!!
I believe i saw you mentioning IPL/SPL 2.21 and with that values you can't CID unlock the phone...
Eh... I really dont know exactly my phone unlocked or not, but after run Lokiwiz.bat (in fact it's run 4 .exe file with parameter), I got that window result. Now I'm in WM6 TNT (as in my signature) and the phone working after upgraded.
When I opened this Help topic, draven187 and zabardast_1 advised me to re-do from the beginning and I did it carefuly followed "How to .... little tutorial": downgraded to 1.xx, upgraded to T-Mobi 2.26, unlocked phone and unlocked CID (that DOS window), upgraded to WM6 TNT.
But it's seems there's something wrong now: the phone booting procedure is very very slow (4-5min stop on Windows welcome screen), may be caused by installed Resco File Explorer 5 and SpbPlus. But when it booted, phone running fast. I think I should try the TNT 5.0....

[ROM][WWE]HTC Elf Clone - Rom Dumped[ONLINE]

Hey there!
At first I'd like to intruduce myself as I'm around here not too long.
Well I'm a gagdet lover and got my self accidentaly a Touch-Clone, and the worst is that the OS (WM6) is in Chinese ...
First I was pissed off, but then I got trough the Wikis and managed to make a rom-dump of the device, so if anybody is interested, I'd be glad to share the dump with you ...
Actually I'm looking for some possibility to get rid of the chinese interface as I understand nothing and was wondering if it's possible just to exchange language-critical files with adequate english- or german ones?
And is it possible to flash the changed image back to the device with pdocwrite (Filesystem is MSFLASH) or am I confusing something?
Any suggestions or recomendations?
Cheers, Max
You will have to disclose your device's model so that ppl here can confirm if it is a ELF / ELFin Clone. After updating the USPL you should be able to flash any recent rom in any language.
thanks for your reply!
Unlocking the phone with CERT_SPCS and Enable Rapi worked fine, attached some pics:

I hope you didn't get me wrong, this is not an original htc as it seems, as the filesystem is different? But any hints appreciated!
Cheers, Max
This is HTC ELF S1 from China.
It is the first version of Elf.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155
Flash the USPL and you are good to go for any Elf ROM.
2.20 Elfin ROM is also compatible with your device. But you may want to try those Elf ROM first. You may try the touch surface rom or Shadow CE 2.1.

BTW, this is the same as other HTC ELF .. No different at all, except it uses Chinese Language ROM.
thanks for the identification, your help is very appreciated!
but just to be sure: the device goes into bootloader when pressing "volume up" and soft reset. Also the bootloader screen is white and shows "Enter bootloader updated from SD card?" written in green.
Isn't the bootloader usualy in three colors? Sorry for my doubts but I just want to make sure I don't brick the device ;o)
cheers, Max
Hey where did you buy your phone?
same as you civilized ;o) already solved your problem?
china clone...
@baustromverteiler
did you manage to extract the bootloader? and if yes: what tool did you use?
i´m trying to do the same thing on another clone from china running a strange kind of wm6... and it is a msflash-device, too!

hi chuckbert,
use this command to geht the exact size of partition you want to dump (first use pdo Cert_SPCS and EnableRapi on the phone to unlock your device if not done already)
1. pdocread -w -d MSFLASH -p Part00 -b 0x800 -t
output is something like this:
real nr of sectors: 638 - 1.25Mbyte (0x13f000)
then use
2. pdocread -w -d MSFLASH -p Part00 0 -b 0x800 0x13f000 part00.raw
to dump the rom to disk, you must change the 0x13f000 to in value 1. displays, then do this for all your partitions you want to dump, part02 is the OS (at least on my device) and I suspect part00 or part01 to be the bootloader but I don't know how to extract it from the dump, maybe someone could help?
I got in contact with the seller today and they're trying to get a english rom from the manufacturer ...
@baustromverteiler:
that´s exactly what i did *bg*
no problem to extract the os (part02.raw) but in the other files there is no booltoader
any further suggestions?
seems like the devices are kind of "related"...
regards
chuckbert
hm ... did you find any hints on how to extract the bootloader?
i searched the forums and googled but couldn't find any information ...
cheers, max
bootloader
try "safebootloader.exe or pmemdump...
hope you are more lucky, than i was!

Hi, stumbling into Elf territory here, but is this a clone?

TOMTOP PS381 with WifI, 2GB max microSD (what's Elf max?), same TI OMAP chip, same ram/rom, just curious, as i keep looking at this and thinking it might be a good purchase for fun, but if anyone has any infos, would be good.
thanks, and sorry to hijack thread
/hijack
most certainly by looking at the ebay page
wrong dialer, extra weird softwares (GSmart?), 200-400 hours standby is ungoldy for ppc
No man and there customer service is horrible I'm just going to exchange it and hopefully I get one that lasts
According to the forum in China, S1 is just the same as other Elf, once it is Super CID, you can flash any rom.
try this after you have unlocked.. this is copied from another thread from this forum but I don't know the actual source..
Elf SD Card flashing
This page describes how to upgrade your Elf ROM using an SD Card. This is useful for:
Linux and Mac users: you don't need windows to upgrade the ROM
ELF0IMG.nbh on a FAT32 filesystem
1、Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work).
2、Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / MacOS use cabextract.
3、Rename the .NBH file to ELF0IMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
4、With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (The bootloader is invoked by hold down the camera button and reset device with the stylus).
5、confirm flashing on screen by pressing the volume slider down.
6、Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 30 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts.
SuperCID devices are able to flash any NBH image using this method.
So and what can you do when your OS on this clone doesn't boot, hard-reset is not working and CID is locked of course? I tryed classic hard-reset method what is working on original Elf but not on this Elf-clone? I only can get into bootloader... so I think I need original Elf-clone ROM... I haven't any
EDIT: My forum-friend had looked to the manual and find how to Hard-Reset DOPOD S1 so there it is:
press volume up + press camera button + put your stylus into reset hole for 1.5 second then release stylus but keep pressed buttons "volume up" and "camera" until bootloader screen appears.
I've also bought a Touch Clone from China, but now its stuck at the windows splash screen...
Can someone point to a ROM file for these clones?
TIA

That should help with a lot of the issues I see being posted, not only here but on many Threads. Simple path statement 101
Better: Chose "Path" in "Systemvariables" and put it at the end of this line, i.e. like this: ";C:\android\platform-tools;C:\android\tools". Because then it'll even work if u run the cmd as administrator, which won't work if you do it as described above. Atleast its been the way on my W7 Ultimate 64

Hi,
another way (and very useful for other reasons) is to change registry like this:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell\Command Prompt]
@="open cmd here"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell\Command Prompt\Command]
@="cmd.exe /k pushd %L"
Afterwards you are - by right-clicking the adb-folder - directly in the right folder.
Don´t know if you have to restart, i´m using it just a long time.
Greets
idephili
or just put the tools folder and adb binarys in C:\Windows or C:\Widnows\System32 ;-)
done
I know this is of topic but thanks Eugene for all of your contributions
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Eugene373, I am so happy you're devving on the Sensation! Thanks for the ADB how-to...it really helped! Will you continue to develop and make ROM's for this device?
Alternatively you can also copy the ADB and Fastboot.exe files over to System32 or SysWOW64 folders and they work fine as well.
as google shows up this thread here my two cents...
the mentioned methods don't work for me nor anyone else('s computer) running windows 7 professional 64 bit i know. here's what in fact works perfectly on any computer i tried it on:
copy the path to your adb.exe wherever it is, put a semicolon in front of the path and attach it to the existing entry in the PATH variable. no matter if you add it as an user oder system variable. last one is only to recommend as you're dealing with multiple users which all need to access adb via cmd
is there a way to convert the twrp file backup on my pc to get it back on to my phone to install the backup everytime i try to put it back on my phone via adb it errors out and im stuck at this point ive been at this for over 10 hours just trying to restore my backup i have the backup file on the pc and ive backed it up earlier but now it errors there has to be a way to get this backup back onto my phone in a way that it will recognize it and install it please help lol im familiar with custom roms and the like not a expert but i kinda know what im doing and ive loaded custom roms on many phones in the past with no issues but this one is proving to be a real pain using a note 4 n910t
for more info i was trying to install petbede's rom and i managed to get to the reboot stage and he states it could take anywhere from 7-10 mins on average for it to boot up but mine was going on 20 mins plus and was getting really hot so i pulled the plug and as long as ive been trying to do this in one sitting i just want my backup installed and to be done with it for a few days untill i can muster the courage to try it again but this time i will be backing up on a seperate sd card that i can just pop into the phone to restore from since the pc copy is not playing nice with me

You are in the wrong section. Questions surprisingly enough should go in the Q&A section and not the Development section so you can expect some flaming.
That being said unless you are SuperCID you need to flash a rom that matches your current CID. In order to change the CID you will need to be s-off and you do the changes via bootloader (fastboot). Details can be found below:

2. On your pc click on your local disk C: Drive (or D: drive for some) (WINDOWS users: Start > My computer > Local Disk (C)
3. Create a new folder called "adb" and extract the files from adb.zip into it. Make sure it doesn't create another folder in the adb folder when extracting
