Hello everyone,
I'm totally lost in this WM6 upgrade.
I've tried everything but i wont get my MDA Vario to flash with WM6.
My MDA Vario is unlocked (sim and CID) but i can't flash it because of my SPL 2.21????
This is what i have done:
installed button's 1.05 ROM
Download & installed lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2b.
But stil my SPL is at 2.21.
Can someone please help me out here??

Both your IPL and your SPL must be 2.xx and higher. After you flashed to Buttons rom. did you reflash to a higher version after after you unlocked and cid unlocked your phone to make sure both IPL and SPL were 2.xx or higher?
I've followed the tutorial:
16. Watch the rebooting of your PDA, if BOTH IPL and SPL are 1.xx then great. Quite probably your IPL will be 1.xx and your SPL will be 2.xx. Rerun the button 1.05 ROM downgrade a second time and it will become 1.x on both IPL and SPL. You don't need to redo the unlocking.
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
My IPL was 1.XX after the 1.05 downgrade, but my SPL was still 2.21 even after the rerun.
I have tried to instal T-Mobile 2.26 rom, but it gave an error.
check if you have G3 or G4 unit
I have a 3G device.

I think that you haven't unlocked the phone properly. Read Dr. P's tutorial about unlocking G3 phones.

if your ipl is 1.05 and your spl is still 2.21...then you need to reflash again so that both ipl and spl are 1.05 before you can proceed. ipl and spl should never be different.
WHen you downgrade to the Button rom, in most cases the IPL will change, but the SPL will not. You then have to downgrade again to get the SPL to get to 1.xx . There have been some cases reported where it takes reflahsing the button rom many times (like 8 times or somesuch) before the SPL will finally come down, but you have to complete this step or you will not be CID Unlocked.
Make sure you have your SD card out when you are flashing as this can cause problems.
Good luck, and sorry, but for those that have run into the stuck SPL there hasn't been a real solution other than keep flashing the button rom until it drops down to 1.xx. After that then the CID unlock will be complete and you can then flash the T-Mobile 2.26 rom (or whatever other 2.xx rom you want).

The Dr. P tutorial specifically says this (just not in those words). It tells you (after the last lokiwiz) to watch your screen and that you most likely will still have an SPL of 2.xx and will need to reflash (most people just don't read this and try to move on). The part of about having to reflash numerous times is new though. I've only heard of it a few times, but if you look at the posts from a month or so agao in the Dr P thread on unlocking you'll see where a few people ran into it and it took numerous flashes to finally get SPL to go to 1.xx.
before wm6 roms, every time there was a new rom for wm5 (molski or faria) you'd always get people in the thread mentioning that their ipl and spl are different. in those threads, the advice has always been to reflash a few extra times too. (I personally haven't had any problems with this...but i think i started my unlocking on a 1.8 us t-mobile rom with xelencin's rom...which had an unlocker built into the rom update package).
anyway, the phone's not bricked or anything, so you just have to keep flashing to get it working...

I've re-flashed 3 times but if i understand correct, than i have to retry flashing until SPL and IPL are the same?

yes. ipl and spl should both drop to 1.05. at that point you can go through the unlock and flash back up.

I'm triying to make UPGRADE with differents ROM but when the process finish i stell having the same OS WM5 from Tmobile, i did downgrade with botton downgrade rom i used LOKIWIZZ but ever happen the same, what i doing wrong?

You should be more detailed in explaining things.
First Try to tell us step by step what errors are you getting.
On the signature you say ipl/spl 3.08 (it should mean you're cid unlocked).
So please describe the update rom process better
OK First I had IPL 2.26 and SPL 2.26 with TMOBILE wizard ROM I tryed to update to to WM6 HTC Professional + Home, everything in the process look in order, pass to 99 % in the Progress BAR and wait several minutes and i get again the tmobile ROM the same one, so read several post and I dicide to downgrade with Wizard Button ROM, and it was succesefully, I was in that moment ipl 1.05 something else and SPL 2.26, so I used, so I upgrade to the TMOBILE wizard ROM, and I get IPL 2.26 and SPL 2.26 and I'm tryed again to made a new UPGRade with the same ROM WM6 HTC Professional + Home and it was the same results again, so I made the UPGRADE with the IPS_SPL 3.08 File and now I m in this point now. So what i must do?
Downgrade IPL and SPL does not mean you have CID unlocked your phone. You need to use lokwiz02 to unlocked it when IPL is 1.01. Then first upgrade IPL to 2.2x / 3.08, after that you can proceed to upgrade WM6.

1.installing the rom that downgrade the ipl to 1.00
2.cid unlock
3.installing the rom that changes ipl/spl tp 3.08
any rom that i try to install finshes 100% succsesful
but still boot a wm5 rom with a new icon when starts
any help will be great

Personally, I went from button 1.05 rom to TMobile 2.26 rom to new WM6 rom.
I flashed 3.08 later - as is does not change the O/S - only IPL/SPL. Did not find any benefit to it, so went back down to 2.26
Please note that there are freezing issues if you flash down from 3.08 to 1.05. Apparently the spl can freeze if you do this - and that is a problem. So, to play it safe - do not do that - thanks.
It is always recommended that you flash a solid 2.xx rom such as the TMobile one when going between the different WM6 roms available here - you may want to try that - go down to 2.xx, then upgrade to WM6

I've attached a link to another thread about the freezing issue. Unfortunately, it does not give the answer as to how to fix it. But - should no one else answer on this - I would recommend that you send a private message to senior user "mestrini", and hopefully he can walk you through it.

Well,after downgrading to 1.xx and CID unlocking,its essential to upgrade to ipl/spl 2.xx for upgrade to wm6,its highly recommended to upgrade to 2.xx by flashing the T-mobile 2.26 for a solid base,but,however, you can still even upgrade to wm6 with ipl/spl 3.08.Wm6 works on 2.xx and 3.xx.

I believe your phone is still CID locked,you didn't do the CID unlock method correctly,but you upgraded to ipl/spl 3.08,now you can only CID unlock your phone by downgrading to 1.xx. Yes! SPL freezes if you downgrade to 1.xx from 3.08.So always first downgrade to 2.xx and then to 1.xx.Now I'll advise you to upgrade to IPL/SPL 3.08 again and then try to downgrade to 2.xx by flashing the T-mobile or Wizard_love Rom or official stock Rom of your carrier if other then T-mobile.If succeed to downgrade to 2.xx,only then flash Button's Rom 1.05 to get to 1.xx and apply the lokiwiz02b to CID unlock the phone.After that upgrade to 2.xx by flashing T-mobile 2.26 and upgrade to any wm6 Rom.

thanks for tring but device doesn't let me downgrade to 2.26 or any other 2.xx ipl/spl only stright down to 1.xx and like you said spl freeze on 3.08
when i tried wizard love it did the rom flash but still ipl/spl 3.08
i'll try to find my 2.xx official rom

ELF IPL 1.17.0002 & USPL 1.17.0000This is a newer version of USPL for Elf (based on SPL 1.17.0000) for CID unlocking on similar lines of pof's Elf_USPL based on Elf SPL 1.11.0000.
Credits:
1. pof: for the 1st Elf USPL 1.11.0000.
2. ayyu3m: first person to test new USPL 1.17.0000 for me coz i dont have an Elf.
Note:
1. Should be used only on Elf with IPL 1.1X.XXX2. Some Elf owners have been using USPL 1.11.0000 with IPL 2.2X.XXX2 already without any problem. If that is the case, this USPL should work for those IPLs as well, but i can not guarantee.
2. Keep a shipped ROM for your phone in case of emergency.
3. If you are already using patched SPL 1.11.0000, then you can just run the romupdateutility.exe inside RUU folder to flash this SPL.
4. As it is based upon Elf_USPL, 'rapi' should be enabled before using it.
5. Check post 2 for USPL 1.19.0000, post 3 for USPL 2.26.0000 and post 4 for USPL 2.28.0000.

ELF IPL 1.19.0002 & USPL 1.19.0000Another new USPL 1.19.0000 based on Elf original SPL 1.19.0000 has been patched by kokotas for CID unlocking. The nbh file of this USPL ready to be flashed can be downloaded here.
The procedure of flashing it is similar to previous USPLs and the instructions in post 1 apply to this USPL as well.

For users that already have IPL 2.2X series
First make sure your device is application Unlocked. By installing EnableRapi.Cab & Cert_SPC.Cab on your device, then reboot the phone.
Take out MicroSD card from Slot.
Connect Device through Active Sync.
Run the elf-uspl.exe from the Extracted Download (ELF_USPL_2.26.0000.zip)
Watch Screen and Press Enter When Asked.
Screen should Jump to White on Phone and on PC Flashing Loading Bar will Show.
Stuck in Black Ducky Loading Screen?, check Active Sync Connection or Do a hard reset on Phone first. But be sure to do the last Actual Flashing in White Screen. Sometimes this needs a few tries to go through white screen.
Done.
For users that have IPL 1.1X series
Steps below are all recommended to remove Micro SD card.
First Make sure you allready have a Patched Pre 2.26 SPL (ELF_USPL_1.17.0000.zip)
You can install this Patched Wit the Same Instructions as above for the 2.26 SPL.
Then When you have a Patched 1.1X SPL install the 2.26 IPL (ELF_IPL_2.26.0000.zip)
After you have rebooted you can confirm your SPL & IPL versions by pressing Reset Button With Stylus and Pressing and Holding the Camera Button to get into TriColour Bootloader.
Reset Phone Back into the OS And follow instrcutions above for Flashing Patched 2.26 SPL.
At this point you do not to install CertSPC.cab & EnableRapi.Cab
Done
Unless you are familiar with these processes do not try them, and wait for more confirms.
Flashing is done at own Risk and might Void your Warantee.
Note:
You can also update the IPL&USPL to 2.26 together in one go if you are already using the USPL 1.17.0000 or USPL 1.19.0000. This has been tested by ChiemY(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2454555&postcount=44). So,if you are willing to upgrade together, download the ELF_IPL-USPL_2.26.0000.zip file and run the romupdateutility.exe.

New released USPL28_V2 which has an extra feature (apart from the normal CID unlocking features etc) that you can flash ROM of any size now even below 50 MB using RUU. Yes, this USPL V2 removes the restriction of 50 MB size of ROM for normal RUU and that means the OS.NB doesn't need to be hexed if it is below 50 MB and one doesn't need to flash using SD card in order to gain the extra space.

Ipl 3.07.0002 & Uspl 3.07.0000
IPL 3.07, 3.10 & USPL 3.07, 3.10This is the latest version of the IPL/USPL based on the original WM 6.1 WWE ROM 3.07.720.03. This USPL will:
1. CID unlock the device for flashing any ROM
2. Remove the restriction on minimum size (previous limit was 50 MB) of the ROM.
PS: the procedure to flash the USPL is same as before. If you are already using some USPL (USPL 1.17, 2.26, 2.28 etc), then you just have to flash the new NBH with RUU. Enjoy !
EDIT (17-11-08): New IPL 3.10.0002 and USPL 3.10.0000 attached

Dump the SPL from Elf(in)
Those who are interested in dumping their SPL from the phone, please follow the steps below:
1. Download the attached archive (thanks to kokotas).
2. Unzip it somewhere (preferably to the root of a drive).
3. Connect your phone to PC with USB cable.
4. Make sure that ActiveSync is working.
5. Run the DSPL.bat file and follow on-screen instructions.
After the SPL dump is finished, you will get a new file named SPL.nbx in the unzipped folder. But this will be a 512 KB dump file and CAN NOT be flashed to Elf/Elfin as such. Therefore, if someone wants to make a working SPL of the dump, please PM me the link of the dumped SPL.nbx file and i'll make a flashable SPL of the same.
EDIT: there is an easier method posted by dsixda to dump the SPL in this thread, i recommend to use that instead of this one.

Unlocks the CID (country ID) so that you can flash any Elf ROM to your phone.
Instead of flashing the USPL you can also run the temporary USPL (white screen method), but if you flash a bad ROM (bricks your phone) then you are in trouble, as the temporary USPL makes your phone back to CID locked afterwards.
The temporary USPL method also is annoying because it requires you to remove your sim/memory cards and may take several attempts to get it finally working... The flashed USPL, on the other hand, will let you run just the Update Utility and nothing extra... plus it works the first time always.
Dumping your IPL
1.Download the attached archive & extract on Desktop.
2.Go inside the folder DumpIPL & run the DIPL.bat
3.If everything went ok, you'll find your dumped IPL.nb in that folder soon
4.Do not use the generated file for flashing untill you post it in this thread & someone check that it's a "good" IPL!

I am very sure mine one is an ELF (64/128) and confirm that changing pagepool size also works using ELF method on NBH file. My ELF is set at 6MB PP.
Moreover, changing the pagepool size with the attached pagepool changer for ELF is not a problem at all. Thanks to the creator for the pagepool changer.

Not only the boot time is reduced, the ELF now runs faster and the memory management is amazing, mine is set at 6MB PP, always show 25-26MB free memory
at most of the time after closing all application except background processes. I can say the memory leak is almost zero.
And the best of all, to flash a ROM, I do not need to take out the SIM card and Memory card.

BTW, one thing I noted with 2.26 patched is that when I try to flash a ROM it will complain about Error 328 (I think), saying that the Update Utility is not compatible. This happens whenever the ROM says it has a version of 1.000.00.0 in the Utility. So if I change it to something like 3.000.00.0 in HTC Tools then it flashes fine

Doesn't happen with me on my ELF and out of laziness i have version 1.000.00.0 set.
(or it might be because of my flashing frenzy)

For the upgrade to 2.26, the procedure say to use elf-uspl.exe to upgrade the
SPL 2.26. If we have the IPL on 2.26 and the USPL 1.17 (or 1.19) why we cant
just update directly from the bootloader ?
And about the upgrade from IPL/SPL 1.19 to IPL/SPL 2.26 directly
in one file from bootloader ?

yes, u should be able to do that directly. those instructions have been posted by Noonski as he was the one to test that on Elf (remember, i don't have Elf to test). but u can try ur method. if it works well, i'll modify the post

The reason why i did not Flash both SPL and IPL at the same time is because i like safety.
So is the version number of ROM flashin related to ELFIN's only?

As you can see below.... Why.... Some might do some different Flashing methods and as more Confirms come in this might change the method.
If there's anything none of us want to happen is someone to Brick their phone.
Boot Time vs Patched SPL's
Note: Time measured from the time 'Smart Mobility' appears on the screen. Soft Reset repeated 2-3 times on each USPL
1) USPL 1.11 (IPL 1.11) : ~50 secs
2) USPL 1.17 (IPL 1.11) : ~55 secs *
3) USPL 1.17 (IPL 1.17) : ~55 secs *
4) USPL 1.17 (IPL 2.26) : ~59 secs **
5) USPL 2.26 (IPL 2.26) : ~48 secs ***
6) USPL 2.28 (IPL 2.26) : ~48 secs
Conclusions:
* USPL 1.17 takes ~5 secs longer than USPL 1.11 (bit suprising)
** USPL 1.17 with IPL 2.26 takes distinctively ~60 secs from all the other combinations. Indeed a non-bootable combination.
*** USPL 2.26 and USPL 2.28 takes lesser time to boot conclusively
NOTE: This evaluation alone DOES NOT conclude you must use the latest SPL and IPL. But it gives you a CHOICE, to choose from different IPL and USPL, you can use to customize your device. Pagepool was not taken as a factor, and conducting Boot Time on a pagepooled ROM may also vary the results comparatively.
AND: i did this evaluation to show respect and appreciation on behalf of all others, to those members who give their precious time to this forum and bring out these patches, so that it may and does, help improve the way we can speed up and customize our elf and elfin.
And yeah, I got BSoD for the first time, when i flashed IPL 2.26 and USPL 1.17 and tried to interrupt a soft reset. This concludes what kokotas has said abt non-bootable combinations, like IPL 1.XX with SPL 2.XX or vice versa

Tested on my ELF, it works nicely. My SPL now 2.28.0000.
Will test further once AB release a new UCE ROM whether can flash without taking out the SIM card and memory card
Any chance to have IPL 2.28 too ?

i'm glad it works for u. i have not found IPL 2.28 as yet. however there is IPL 2.27 dumped by someone today and yet to be tested.

I have this iMate Kjam (Not mine). It was with a T Mobile Official ROM and has IPL/SPL at v2.26. I checked and there was no G4 sign anywhere. Someone had to remove the CID thing to this. I downloaded several WM6 ROMs but once the complete flashing and the device reboots, I'm still in the T-Mobile ROM. I down-flashed to the age-old Button Love WM5 base ROM and here is the ROM status:
IPL: 1.01
SPL: 2.26
GSM: 1.12.10
OS: 1.5.4.2
If I upgrade from this point with, let's say, TNT5.0, here is what happens:
IPL: 1.01
SPL: 2.26
GSM: 1.12.10
OS: 1.5.4.2
Same right? but all the graphics change when booting. There is the HTC logo when device is turned on and there is the TNT 5.0 "BOOM" title when OS is loading (with the IPL/SPL/GSM/Radio)
Can someone tell me what is going on? HardSPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320) clearly tells me that device is NOT G4

Update:
I was able to install the official T-Mobile ROM onto Button Love ROM. Here is the screen statistics:
IPL: 2.26
SPL: 2.26
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.26.10.2
If I try to upgrade to WM6 now, nothing will happen as I've already tried. After the flash process, it will still be official TMobile...
What should I do now? If I compare the properties of this Wizard with my own, I'm pretty sure this should be a G4 device.
Flash Buttons ROM again and do a CID unlock. That's it! Have fun!
I have a G3, but I had to flash Button twice so that the IPL/SPL matched, then I unlocked and reflashed 2.26 stock (again be sure that IPL/SPL match numbers), then from there I joined rom flashers anonymous!

Trying the Button Love ROM the third time... the SPL just won't drop... whats going on?

The only avaliable HardSPL tool doesn't recognize the device as G4... so how do I forced CID unlock? I tried SoftSPL... but at that time, my IPL and SPL were different...
Lets face the situation
IF you have
IPL 2.26 or 1.xx
SPL 2.26 or 2.XX
You have a G3 device - forget do not use Hard SPL or Soft SPL, these are ONLY FOR G4 DEVICES
Since you have a G3 Device you have 2 options
If you have IPL 1.xx and SPL 2.xx . use WST (Wizard Service Tools) to unlock your CID device

Note that only with IPL 1.xx you are hable to unlock your CID with WST
If you have IPL 2.xx and SPL 2.xx, than you must downgrade both to IPL/SPL 1.xx with an official ROM

If not, then I have to upgrade to Officia T-Mobile ROm. Then IPL/SPL = v2.26 but WM6 won't flash...

Actually, I followed what Pisca said about using WT and it worked... in Button Love, I finally CID unlocked and upgraded to Official TMobile. Then TNT5.0. All Well

Ok, if you are on IPL 1.xx and SPL 2.xx, you can use WST-Wizard Service Tool 4.2.2 to CID unlock
Then you should load a carrier ROm T-Mobile to get IPL/SPL 2.xx
But allways read as mentioned in the previous post
