GPRS auto disconnection - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

I have Qtek900 and WM6 (JB version). I mentioned that if some programme requires GPRS connection, it connects automaticaly, but after that (the programm stops using GPRS and siconnects), the GPRS connection itself is still running. If it is possible somehow the GPRS connection to disconnect automatically if at the momment it is not required?

WM 2005 WiFi and GPRS

I have a wizard (MDA 2.25 custom ROM)
I rarely use 802.11(x) on my MDA but when I tried last night it connects to my WAP ok and gets an IP, however if I launch MSN IM or IE or any network aware app, it will attempt to connect with GPRS/EDGE. Even if I turn off the phone and leave Wifi on, it will still attempt to connect to TMobile and not use the WiFi at all.
I'll connect to a Wireless access point fine, just the apps when you launch them will attempt to connect to TMobile GPRS. The apps should go "oh, I am connected to a WiFi connection, I should use that instead since it's available"
I want the device to prefer WiFi for data connection when I have it on.
Can't figure this out. It used to work

Wi-Fi vs. GPRS/3G

I´m new to this xda-world and got my first HTC Touch Cruise.
Is it possible to set preferred connection when going online? Is there a setting that tells the phone to use Wi-Fi when possible, and just use GPRS when no other connection is availible.
That works as standard. If it detects a wifi connection it will always use that first, and only use GPRS/3G/HSDPA if the wifi connection is off.
really?
Hi,
My TC seems to use 3G connection (as seen through Spb GPRS Monitor) although I am connected via WIFI. How can I avoid that so as to use 3G only for phone, or when I am out of wifi for data?
Cheers,
Thomas

3G/HSDPA traffic while connected via WIFI

It looks like my TC is using HSDPA network (about 100k/hour) even during the time I am connected via wifi. Is that a normal behaviour, or can I force it to automatically disconnect HSDPA while using wifi?
It depends on how you setup your routing.
If you have your wifi network set as your "work / business" network and hsdpa as your internet access. It'll ofcourse route all trafic over hsdpa.
Check your wifi connection and set the appropriate network type. This setting is done for every access point. It's not a global wifi setting afaik.
The wifi connection is setup as internet, so that is not the problem.
What I find is that both wifi and 3g are active. I can turn off 3g by turning off data connection in the comm manager, leaving me with the sole wifi connection (and internet access of course). However, as soon as the TC goes to sleep it will come back with both 3g and wifi. What I found also is that it is quicker to initialise the HSDPA connection than to wifi one.
Is there a way to force it to check it for wifi connection first, and then only connect to HSDPA if no wifi is available?
Sorry, that I don't know.
And I can't be bothered by it here in NL. As we've got flatrate utms/hsdpa here with a number of providers.
At home I only turn on Wifi if the umts/hsdpa connection is instable.

GPRS settings on Sampson I900

Does anybody know why the phone trys to connect on to the GPRS even when it has a perfectly good wi-fi connection?

hotmail connected via cellar when wifi is available

Hi there,
I have a question about an annoying problem that I've only managed to find one (unanswered) question to on the web.
I have an HTC Touch HD (WM6.1) which I use to read email from my Hotmail account, amongst other things. The problem is that the messaging client ALWAYS tries to download my mail via 3G/GPRS even when there's a WiFi connection available. This occurs both when I initiate the send/receive using TouchFlo 3D or from within the mail client.
Connection manager is, as far as I'm aware, configured correctly, and PIE/Opera/weather will all happily use WiFi to connect to the internet, only using my data connection when WiFi isn't available.
The same results occur with connection manager configured in either of the following ways:
Internet Connection = "My ISP" settings with 3G modem connection
Work Connection = Default "My Work Network" settings
WiFi Access Point = Connects to Internet
Network Card = Connects to Internet
OR
Internet Connection = "My Work Network" with 3G modem connection and "This network connects to the internet" enabled
Work Connection = As Internet Connection
WiFi Access Point = Connects to Work
Network Card = Connects to Work
Interestingly, if I disable my data connection and enable WiFi I CAN send/receive mail over the WiFi connection, so it seems like the data connection is being used in preference to the WiFi one.
Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?!
Thanks,
Mike
What´s the version of your ROM?
Is the device labeld by Vodafone?
There is an option when setting up the email account in pocket outlook to select the preferred connection for the account. It is in one of the advanced options pages when setting up the account. Normally it is setup for THE INTERNET so your WiFi adapter should point to the same.
Now, I use a little Mortscript to switch-on the WiFi and immediately change my Network Selection to NO DATA, which is just an empty setting (no internet connection). This effectively shutdowns the GPRS / 3G connection and pocket outlook has to use the WiFi route.
