is there a way to;
A) change the actual volume of the alert (I know about turning vol up/down) but what I want here is a louder alert when I recieve a message.
B) can I download new wav files to add to the default ones with myxda2i?
B1) if the above is answered yes, can you advise how I install them please?
Thanks
Pete
I would like to add to this.
I have downloaded .wav files and copied them into the windows directory, but when I go to listen to them in the sounds and notifications section they don't play, this has happened to all .wav files apart from one so far.
Look for the Nokia sms sound file uploaded somewhere in this forum. it works on my imate pocket pc and is loud.

I've also noticed that many wav files are some how encoded in mp3. So they have a file ext of .wav but ppc will only play pure wav files. If you switch the file ext on the wav's that do not play to .mp3 they will sudenly play in windows media player. this will tel you that it is not pure wav encoding.
if you choose properies of the wav file on the pc
it should ms ad pcm as format then it's a pure bred
puls modulated media
i have transfered a mp3 song onto my sd card , does anybody know how to make this my ringtone?....it doesn't show when i try to add new tones is it because its mp3 format or am i missing theobvious :?: :?:
yep your missing something alright
depending on your operating system.
ringtone files need to be in your windows directory for standard os/2003 & 2003se and need to be wav/mid format
wm2005 works with wav mid wma 3gp wmv from anywhere
no in 2003 ring tones can also be wma
When I got my XDAIIs from O2, it can set wma files as ringtone. Just yesteday after I did a hard reset, my phone has already been unable to read wma files. Do you have any idea why this happened?
Can anyone tell me (and I really do need it explained very very simply) how I can put a bit of music on to both my PDA and a storage card. I have put a song from one of my CDs as my ring tone, but it is taking up zillions of megabytes and I'm sure there must be a way of copying it over in a smaller, or more compact format.
Any thoughts would be very welcome. Thanks.
Also; and this may be the same idea: Can you download a video onto the storage card, so that you could play it back some time, or is this in the realms of fantasy again; I would guess that the size of the file would be the problem again here.
Thanks for any suggestions.
use the program it's free and is called cdex
it makes cd's into wma or mp3
then you can
1 copy the music to my pocketpc documents located in my documents and sync your device
2 use explore in activesync and copy the music that way
3 put your sd card in a sdcard reader and copy the files to the card as you would to a disk
I haven't really used my phone as an MP3 player, but now I have a nice, big SD card in it and have decided to copy some songs over.
When I load up Media Player (I like it. So sue me.) and tell it to update the library, it doesn't see the MP3s I put on the storage card. I tried putting them in the My Documents/My Music folder on the card and I even tried putting them in the same folder as that stupid Dogbark file in the main memory and the library NEVER finds them. Is there a trick to make media player see MP3s or what? I can open the files manually and Media Player will play them just fine.
Edit:
I wanted to mention that, when I do 'Update Library', the phone says it found 40+ files, but the device library only shows 4 files (dogbark, mommy, allouete and ding) and the storage card shows nothing.
Did you switch to Storage Card (Next to the Library button there is a drop down menu)?
Can anyone suggest any software to me that can sync music to my device (or to my memory card plugged into USB), but that will also convert the file formats aswell?
Reason I ask is some of my media is FLAC (lossless, but huge) format which I don't think my HTC would play, and even if it did, they are far too big to be putting on it - unless I can get hold of a 200Gb Micro-SD Card!
Also, some of the MP3's I have are 320Kbps, but when playing them on my phone through the stereo in the car, you can't tell the difference in quality from a 160kpbs file - so I'd rather save space on the SD card if possible.
I started using Winamp Android Wi-fi Sync which I liked, but doesn't convert.
Any ideas?
For converting I use http://www.formatoz.com/ it works with a lot of formats, is just good
