Which one is the best roms for magician ?

Hi !! everybody
I'm kinda new here. ...anyway, I'm waiting for my magician to be delivered next week. Can anyone tell me, which rom is the best rom for magician ? (compare for all brands - T-Mobile, iMate, O2 or what so ever) - which all aspects such as camera, bluetooth etc......

Your English is OK.
The T-Mobile ROM is supposed to be better than the Imate ROM because users of the Imate ROM complain about the speaker sound quality.

...but the T-mobile ROM is locked...or am I wrong... :roll:

The ROM doesn't dictate wether the phone is locked or unlocked.
The SIMLock does.
As far as I'm aware, the only locked Magicians are the T-Mobile ones from the Netherlands.
German T-Mobile MDA Compact is not locked.

I have bought my I-mate JAM from expnasys...and it is unlocked...so I can just update with the T-mobile ROM...and it will work as unlocked?....it is an English or German ROM?

The process of updating to the English or German T-Mobile ROM is not difficult but the guide is not very well written.
It's not a simple update either.

I don't know how to change the extended ROM.
I used the English ROM fro the download on www.compactjam.com
One of the messy steps in the process is copying the old ROM's header to the new one.

After i read many topics in this forum.....I think each one have its goods and bad points.....so my question is "Is it possible to combine and flash different rom together?". I mean sth like main rom is from T-Mobile, extended Rom is from iMate, camara patch from O2.....sth like this

I don't get the ROM versioning
I have recently acquired a T-mobile MDA in the Netherlands (Yes, it's locked! Don't start 'bout it!)
I got rid of the T-Mobile skin and colours, so i have some experience at working with ext-ROM, but I don't get the versioning thing.
According to my system settings I have ROM version 1.01.00 WWE (ROM date 10/21/04)
Radio version 1.00.10
extROM version 1.01.124 WWE
Do I have a prehistoric ROM version or what?
Should I upgrade? (I hear that T-mobile rom's are good)
And if i upgrade to, say, an I-mate ROM should I use xda3nbftool to change provider settings. (what does that xda3nbftool do exactly?)

Hi everyone. i know this has been hashed and rehashed but searching for it doesnt help and i cant find a solution for this:
i have a french orange spv m600 (just sim unlocked it, thanks lokiwiz!).
unfortunately it is in french and i would like it to be in english (basically english orange rom).
i have
IPL: 2.10.0001
SPL:2.10.0001
Radio Rom:02.07.20
OS:02.10.1.30
its not cid unlocked and since i think its a g4 chip, im very hesitant - i dont want to end up with a break - have no customer support to send to. i dont need a lot of functions.
by any chance anyone has a wwe orange rom around? would that work without cid unlocking?

Just take the no vendor id dopod rom wwe from the ftp. It worked great on my G4 SPV M 600. It has also been french.

if i were you, i should take the new Qtek Rom:
ftp://[email protected]/Up...rophet_220734_2207114_024721_QtekWWE_Ship.exe
just download it, extract it with WinRar (i know it's a .exe file, but you can extract it) and replace the romupdateutility with this one:
ftp://[email protected]/Up...AKU2.3_LvsW_edition/ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe
copy the nk.nbf file in the same folder with the other files and just run the romupdateulityNo_Id.exe to update.
This Rom runs very stable and fast, much faster than the dopod one.

I haven't noticed any major speed improvement over the Dopod rom. Actually, my machine became slightly more unstable. Maybe it is only a software problem though. I have not reinstalled the applications that are running from the SD card, but I relied on a restore using sprite backup.

now will try the rom and see how it performs. my previous 2 were wizards which i used qtek roms

It's possible to turn on ClearType on SP, I'm enjoying it on my Qtek 8310.

HTC uses Dopod as their brand in Asia. For example:
Dopod 577W = Qtek 8310
Dopod C500 = HTC S710 = SPV E650

It's the lastest rom for Dopod C500, I got it from Dopod Asia.

It's available for S710 and E650, but you should cid unlock your phone first. BTW, it's English and Chinese duo-language supported.

It looks like the VOX is builded on same base as Tornado so it should work just flash it... did somebody try it?

You joking, Vox got 128M flash rom but Tornado only 64M.

this rom is not for your phone.

i flashed to this rom because i found my vox to be too slow for my liking. so far it seems stable. the only problem that i have encountered is that the overclocking program wont run now.
i had to cid unlock my device. i used imei-check.uk and all went well (after they made me send a copy of my license to verify who i am). the install went smooth. the device seems slightly quicker when switching screen orientation while in the messaging application. not fast, but a little quicker. my device would take several seconds before and sometimes it would freeze while doing this.
if i encounter any problems i will make note of it here.

Anyone try this with blackberry connect? Is this a new rom than what the htc vox (non-branded) shipped with?

it is a newer rom version than the one that shipped with my unbranded s710. i dont use the blackberry connect software, sorry

Right now I stay on my SFR S710 rom, as i debrand it with modaco ' s stuff, and customized it like i wanted.
We'll see what this rom as to offer.

ROM extract problems
Hi I tried to extract this ROM with imgfs tools but at the last step (the bin extract) i get this message :
unknown header type , FS_data_table??
May be the ROM is protected?

I just tried to flash my unbranded HTC Vox and I am getting the following:
ERROR [294]: INVALID VENDER ID
This is really weird, I thought unbranded phones were all CID unlocked? Is that erro because it is locked? I was hoping to load this up becase my vox is a little slow too, but mostly because I was hoping that it fixes the continous reboot problem with microsd card. I have tried to clear out the notifications and that hasn't fixed the reboot problem.
Any ideas?

Damm, they want $38 to unlock the phone...what happened to those free CID unlockers on the older phones. Any way to do this for free? Hehehe. Do you like the new rom? Want to make sure it's worth it....

What's that? Is it shareware or freeware?

I installed it. Working fine, miss the theme with small types though. The fonts look kind of big and crappy, i think maybe cleartype is not enabled but I can not figure out a way to turn it on.

I thought ClearType was only available on PPC??

Or are there translations for TNT?
If not, I have to go back to WM5

If you have a G3 phone,once SIM/CID unlocked remains unlocked forever,unless you personally don't lock it again.
YUP! you can flash any Rom which you wish,regardless being official T-Mobile or any other Rom,it won't effect any Cid locking/unlocking status.

Why not simply use an English rom?? Dutch translations in Windows Mobile are lame anyway.

ok,let me just give a little explanation as to why t-mobile 2.26 is recommended always to flash before any upgrade.As with passage of time and usuage,the present custom build roms and the extended rom gets corrupted due to installing/deleting certain applications and programs and when upgrading or flashing a new rom,might get problems and hang ups,so its advisable and recommended to have a solid/clean base and stable extended rom.T-mobile is considered and proved to be the most solid/stable official rom and with solid base is always recommended to be flashed before any upgrade or new rom flash.Its always beneficial to start with a solid/clean and stable base.Well,you can even flash your own official carrier's rom for that purpose also but it shud be with ipl/spl 2.xx (Aku 2.xx),if your official carrier is other then T-mobile,ok

I want to update my S710 from its original ROM version 1.15.405.2 to the one i found on the site: RUU_Vox_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.1_4.1.13.54_03.10.90_Ship.
My radio version is 4.1.13.37_02.83.90. Can I use this update on my phone or not? Does the radio version's need to match?

You should have no problem using this ROM to update your S710 as I used that ROM for a short while when it first came out, I then moved oveer to Dr. Gonzo's New Guava ROM, and I am now using his WM6.1 ROM, been using it since his first test ROM came out and I am now using his latest WM6.1 v1.0a ROM.

To have the latest on your Vox offcourse.
Just like Rolandh I have updated my Vox with the WM6.1 rom from Doc. Gonzo.
And the new features and the increased stability are great.
Futher more I noticed the response of the software in some areas is better.
So all pro's and little con's.

The official HTC WM6 Update added a Network Setup Wizard and Office 6.1 to the ROM. Dr. Gonzo's WM6.1 adds Threaded SMS, New Internet Explorer Mobile with the ability to set your own Homepage, a better Home/Today Screen and some extra apps that Dr. G has added and is more responsive and a little bit more stable than WM6, and as Chongie says to have the lates version of WM on you Vox aswell.

Hi,
There is not much precautions to take, apart from taking backup of your contacts, that is and making sure that there is battery backup to your PC, so that the update process is not interrupted. Because once you update the ROM, all your data will be erased. Its like formatting your hard disk drive. If your vox is network locked (mine was not) then you need to unlock the phone first. If you download Dr G's latest ROM, then you will find out how to do it (there is a step by step guide that comes with it).
Honestly, if you followed the guide, there is hardly any chance of screwing up. And once you start using the 6.1 ROM, you will surely wonder how the hell could you ever have used the original ROM that came with HTC Vox

Wow, appreciate the awesome explanation! Thanks! As far as locked or unlocked, I'm assuming its unlocked. Bought it off Ebay, stuck my sim card from t-mobile in it, turned it on and worked like a charm! Have heard the term "bricking" phone, which i'm assuming means locking it up, correct? Since I wasnt the original owner, are there certain "codes" or info off the phone i need to get first? You know, like some software info or phone specific info?
