Faria rom: how do i keep my gprs connected all the time? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

i want to keep it constant on, like i had on wm5.

Start - Settings - System - registry wizard - tweaks3 -GPRS Always ON

that eliminates most of the reconnects but not all of them.

that doesn't work.
i'm using a tracking software and to get the LAC and the CID for the cell that i'm into the connection has to drop. when i used faria's AKU3.3 with crossbow icons i used that tweak and it worked on WM6 doesn't

It depends on what radio you are using. The only radio that I know of that will not cause GPRS connection issues is 2.19. Anything higher than that has problems reconnecting to GPRS if you lose signal.
The problem is that 2.19 doesn't have coverage as good as the other radios. Someone is working on a fix for the 2.61 radio stack with Faria. the thread is over in the Wizard upgrading forum.

No problem 2.61
I have 2.61 Radio ROM and no Problem. Imedeatelly I disconnect phonecall, GPRS is reconnecting. Very fast. German T-Mobile settings. And no problem. Using octratalk and have no problems beeing connected to googletalk, icq and msn.

You are lucky then. It seems most people trying to run 2.61 on any of the WM6 ROMs have issues. I put it on MBE version and immediately had missed calls and SMS message (yes, coverage was excellent, and very quick to acquire GPRS connection and all, but calls would go straight to VM for no reason one time, and come through the next). Never had this issue with 2.61 on AKU 3.3 or stock 2.25 ROMs.
I also put it on Faria's WM6 ROM and had a similar experience. Not even trying 2.61 on the mUn ROM.

Dialing problem after 1.12 update

HI i have a MDA Compact and upgraded from 1.11 qtec rom to 1.12 with bigstore patch applied. The phone seem to be fine but some times when i go to make a call it does'nt seem to dial just sits there saying dialing. If I hang up and leave the phone for 5 mins it seems to go back to normall.
Signal strength is fine, 4 bars & i am calling a landlline thats not engaged.
Would upgrading the radio stack help? Is there a guide on how to do this.
Thanks in advance

GPRS/EDGE fails to connect to Cingular

My 8125 has been SIM/CID unlocked and I've loaded numerous WM6 ROMs and currently have CROSSBOW RELOADED running. Never a problem (well maybe a few !!) flashing Faria's Roms or others. Thanks for all the GREAT ROM work!! I also have a ROM Kitchen ROM version I loaded too!!
The ONE issue I have is that the GPRS/EDGE data connection refuses to connect. I live in area with EDGE but I fail to see the E or G icon pop up EVER. When the modem tries to dial the G icon appears briefly but I get the "no connection...." message.
WiFi and Bluetooth work like a champ on all ROMs loaded.
I thought that this behavior might be caused by Radio ROM and I've loaded the following with same results: 2.40.11, 2.47.11, and currently have 2.19.11 running. I also went back to Cingular 2.25.11 without success.
At one point I flashed back to the button 1.05 in hopes of cleaning stuff out! I then upgraded to stock Cingular 2.25 and same problem. No data connect. I then when ahead and flashed up to WM6 (Crossbow_reloaded).
Yes, I have a $20/mo Cingular data plan and I'm using the standard WAP settings for Cingular.
What am I missing???
Appreciate your help!!

Hmmm. Sorry to ask such a question, but does it do it when you're unplugged from the USB cable?
Under Start - Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks, did you try both My ISP and MEdia Net?
Try these cabs if you haven't already:
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I'm disconnected from USB while testing data connection.
I ran both of the cabs you included in response, but no help.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
I have wondered if there is a chance that some flag is set in the SIM that is preventing my connection. Anyone have experience here?
THX,
I've never had an issue with GPRS/EDGE after running either of the cabs above. I'm curious if you were to go back to the stock Cingular rom if it would all start working, or if there is some other issue going on here.
Also, for Cingular, if you are running WM6, don't even attempt to use any radio other than T-Mo 2.19 UK. Newer ones just seem to cause problems on the Cingular network with WM6.
I believe I have flashed back to stock Cingular 2.25 with this: (RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_1).
I get same symptoms. I tried both "MY ISP" and "MEDIA Net" network settings with same results. I ran the cabs sent in this thread a couple of days ago too.
Specifically, I start IE and enter a web address and tap the green arrow to open the page. The little G appears w/moving arrows in the top bar and the info box says "Connecting to: Cingular GPRS". It stops and tries again and eventually the info box says: "Cannot connect: Dialed wap.cingular. There is no modem at this number".
Anything else to try?
Appreciate your help!

I found a related thread at the Cingular forums:
http://forums.cingular.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=40993
According to prubin (poster in the above thread), Cingular discovers you are on the wrong plan for your PDA and automatically disables your access. I don't know how true that is, but it may be time for a call to Cingular to verify your connection and plan.

Not true at all.
The only reason they disable the accounts has nothing to do with the device, but the amount of data usage.
Those yahoos were probably using > 500mb of data a month, or something insane that threw the flag.
Cingular doesn't care what type of device you have. It's just a marketing gimmick for them.
Yeah if you can't connect on the stock Cingular rom (the extended rom configuration will set all the GPRS and MMS stuff up for you so its ready to go) then you need to call Cingular, as its either them blocking you (not sure how they would do that really) or your phone has an issue. Be prepared, it seems Cingular will do some basic troubleshooting and then they'll offer to ship you a new phone. They don't take much time to really look into why a problem happens if its not very basic. I had a question about MMS messages and after a couple of minutes they were ready to ship me a replacement phone. I just laughed at how dumb that was. I let them note it in my account so I can get a future replacement very easily, but declined at the time.
A guy I work with has had Cingular replace (warranty exchange) his 8125 3 or 4 times now (he gets a scratch on it, so he calls and tells them some feature doesn't work)... Sheesh.

Got GPRS Problems under WM6

Hi!
I just updated my O2 mini S to WM6 SNE. Everything´s working fine except the GPRS Connection to the Internet. I tried it with my manufacturers radio rom 2.19 and after that updated to Farias 2.69.10. Nothing happens. I am sure I have configured the settings for O2 Germany correctly, but if i am trying to check my email via pop3, nothing happens. under wm5 there was a window popping up telling me that a connection is established. What am I doing wrong?

TMobile Radio Rom

I've been following the Cingular Radio Rom thread and realized that we need something similar for us TMobile folks.
Please report your experiences with TMobile and WM6 roms. I'll start.
I am in the Norfolk, Virginia area of the US. All of the following used the 2.25 IPL/SPL:
Faria Real Thing - Tmo 2.25 (Good signal, missed calls, no GPRS reconnection problems)
Faria Real Thing - Tmo 2.69 (Great signal, missed calls, no GPRS reconnection problems)
Faria Real Thing - Tmo 2.40 (Good signal, missed calls, no GPRS reconnection problems)
Faria Real Thing - Tmo 2.19 (OK signal, no missed calls, GPRS reconnection problems )
XM6 - Tmo 2.40 (Good signal, missed calls, no GPRS reconnection problems)
XM6 - Tmo 2.69 (Great signal, missed calls, no GPRS reconnection problems)
XM6 - Tmo 2.19 (OK signal, no missed calls, GPRS reconnection problems)
XM6.2a - Tmo 2.25 (Good signal, no missed calls, no GPRS reconnection problems) [this was a warranty replacement]
This thread probably might not be needed since most users are cincular that have radio problems. but im not going to say that tmobile is problem free. they just dont have as much as cincular does **IMO** So far it seems that most everyone is having radio problems with WM6 roms
my experiences with radios have been good. i have used only a few roms so far.
XM6. 2.69 missed calls great reception though. 2.47, 2.25 great no missed calls. reception was for 2.25 was ok 2.47 up there with 2.69
NBD 7.4 2.25,2.47. - 2.25 fair no missed calls but quickly changed to 2.47, 2.47 no missed calls, ** only a certain area where i would get missed calls other wise works pretty good.
NBD was used with mfrazzz's radio cingular cab. To me i believed it has helped me but i never did check the registry before i added the cab.
I have a zip file that contains all the radio roms i could find. 2.19 radio to 2.69 i maybe missing a few but i could not find them all here is a link to download my zip file its 6 post down
CLICK HERE FOR LINK TO RADIOS AND RUU TOOL
I do think no matter what radio you are using, there is a WM "feature" for PPC, if the device is downloading and a voice call comes in (or at least attempts to), the data connection will always win!
I had a family member in the hospital this week and missed a couple of important calls early in the week.
I set my AS for push to manual and set POP to never check.
I then turned off my data connection via COM manager.
I never missed a call after doing this. If I wanted to check e-mail POP or push, I just went to AS and selected sync or pop and select send and receive. After checking I made sure to go back into COM Manager to turn off data. Sure, it was a manual process. But this way I could make sure I DID NOT miss another call.
Is this really a feature? Because I noticed this with 2.19.11 as well. I was playing around with maps using Google maps which gets teh maps on the fly from the gprs connection. And all calls coming to me in that time went to voice mail!
Not fair!
Any way to correct this behavior?
If you can find a fix, I believe you would be the 1st!
ive never had any issues when using gprs. my calls always come through temporarily disconnecting my gprs once the call is ended my gprs reconnects. but it is different when i tether my mda to my laptop for some reason my calls wont come through when i tether. weird i know.
I need someone to check this registry setting for me. For T-mobile our value is set at 2 and cincular is set at 4.
Code:
<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="Registry">
<characteristic type="HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL">
<parm name="RILEnableEONS" value="4" datatype="integer" />
</characteristic>
</characteristic>
</wap-provisioningdoc>
this setting maybe in a different spot than the code above just poke around and try to find it.
Attached below is Mfrazzzs cincular radio cab there have been mixed reviews about the cab working and not working for cincular users.
I however had luck with it although i didnt check my registry setting before the cab. But im also going to say it may or may not work well with tmobile either. so try it out if it works it works if it doesnt just simply uninstall.
Ive collected a majority of the radios from across the forum into a zip file so download the file and try out all the radios if you like. the more you try and give us feedback the closer we are to a solution. Radios can be found -----> here

No, if you look carefully you will find that t-mobile users are also reporting on the cingular thread. Furthermore, the two carriers use common towers in many regions so there is at least some convergence.
2.69 is working for me with t-mobile, please see the referenced thread for more info. Without a full desc of your operating parameters (e.g. loc, cab fix, OS, etc.) facile conclusions can be very misleading (and incorrect).
Best regards-
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The CAB fix is for cingular.
Code:
<parm name="RILEnableEONS" value="4" datatype="integer" />
For T-mobile should be :
Code:
<parm name="RILEnableEONS" value="2" datatype="integer" />
Bottom Line:
RILEnableEONS = 4 (Cingular)
RILEnableEONS = 2 (T-Mobile)
I am running OS 318 rev 3.7 Custom Cooked with Custom Tweaks and mfrazz's tweaks w/o his reg fix for cingular. Here is my Stats
G3 Device
IPL/SPL 3.08
Radio 2.69
Overclocked to 201Mhz
i do not have any missed calls/sms/mms. Ever since i have installed 2.69 my battery drain level is @ 30mA, Signal Strength 100% its awesome. I dont use Battery Status advance, but i do use Regular Version. I only OC to 201Mhz because my custom build is fast as frazz's or bit faster i'd say since i dont have extra softwares therefore i just oc to 201mhz. btw i am in New York, New York
I'm using radio 1.12.10, no miss call seem better than 2.19 rom

I believe you are correct in so far as what the postings say.
Installing the CAB set the value to 4, not 2. I just checked and confimred value in my MDA (using t-mobile) is presently 4 (I mistakenly posted that RILEnableEONS = 2 on the other thread- sorry). However thus far 2.69 has been working for me the value of 4 from the cab. Also I set the alarm fix to 60s with Tweaks 2k2.
I don't know whether things are working because of 1) the cab and registry entry, 2) the alarm fix, 3) both, or 4) neither ;-). If I find that I am missing calls, I will try RILEnableEONS = 2. However since it ain't broke, or at least it seems not broke at the moment, I am hesitant to try "fixing it." It could be that merely having the registry entry exist makes something work.
I took a flight from the San Francisco area to Las Vegas today and it worked fine in Las Vegas as well, I didn't have many calls, but when I was called, the phone was defintely sleeping and the calls did come through fine (and I am almost certain there would have been no other calls).

Que? That's what I provided in the first post and the post you quoted...
Anyway, I've been using the stock TMo rom thus far and I have no complaints. I have not applied any fixes, though from my research so far, it seems that a value of "2" for RILEnableEONS is appropriate for TMo.

One of us doesn't know something. To the best of my knowledge, there is NO "stock t-mobile rom" with WM6. This is about WM6. The stock WM5 tmobile worked ok for me too- I went to WM6 because the OS is *MUCH* faster, more free memory, and some nice features.
Hope this helps.

WM 6.1 & Orange UK

Hi Guys,
I have just replaced my trusty Wizard (running Wizard Love ROM WM5 and working great on Orange UK) due to me damaging the external antenna plug which caused the whole phone to cease receiving a signal
I bought myself a replacement Wizard that has WM6.1 Pro ROM on it with HTC Touch Flo. I put my Orange SIM into it and cannot do much else now other than send & receive phone calls - no SMS, no GPRS, also cannot access the "phone" icon under the settings menu or even access the "SIM Manager" either.
Any ideas anybody? I suspect the Orange SIM myself!!
Many thanks in advance.
Mike.
Maybe your sim card is damaged in some strange way?
I'm not sure - the SIM works great in my other Wizard running WM5. In fact I had this same problem with my other unlocked Wizard, and it was only after changing to the "Wizard Love" ROM that it was sorted out.
I have read that it may be that the radio ROM needs updating - I don't really know.
I suspect there are other UK users out there on the Orange network who have WM6.1 running OK.
Cheers,
Mike.
Better check your SIM card in other phone for reliability ;] cheers
I have and the SIM works fine.
Although the OS is upgraded over what was on my previous Wizard, it would appear that the IPL/SPL and GSM are older versions on my replacement phone. Is it possible to upgrade these without affecting the WM6.1 install??
Cheers,
Mike.
After a lot of reading I seem to have now sorted out the problem.
I flashed a new radio ROM from 02.07.10 to 03.02.11. I put the SIM card back in and found I had a number of voicemail messages and SMS's waiting for me. No changes to any settings and I can now access SIM Manager etc, etc
I'm just happy that I'm back in communication!!
Well, further to the above I cannot now access GPRS or the MMS service.
I have tried all the GPRS settings from my older Wizard and flashed different Radio ROM's on my replacement Wizard. Now on Radio ROM 02.19.11 as I did read this seems the best one for the UK.
Anybody else on here use Orange (UK) for GPRS or MMS, and has it working so I can see where I'm going wrong??
Thanks in advance.
Mike.
I've done a lot of reading and had a play...seems to work now. I even have the "E" symbol on screen, so I'm getting an EDGE connection now that is a first!!
I was using CR86 Touch HD Cruise Edition, so I flashed XDA2's WM6.5 M2D ROM onto it instead. This then automatically picked up a GPRS/EDGE connection, but I could not access the SIM...I got the "the phone is not ready, wait 15 secs etc,etc" message. I then flashed the Radio ROM from 2.19.11 and took it up to 2.69.11 (I have previously tried 03.02.11, 02.37.11, 02.25.11, 02.19.11 to no avail)
Seems to work OK, I have sent & received a MMS messages & standard SMS now.
I just need to set up my email & sync my contacts (again)
