I have looked for any info on this over the last few weks and im really surprised that nobody else wants to do this on a pda!
I have posted in the Artemis area but nobody can help!
What im after is a 3rd party program to embed gps coordinates when i take a picture on my pda.The Artemis has a built in gps but im sure other bluetooth receivers would do the same job
I have since learned that this is called geotagging and some digital cameras with now embed the gps coordinated onto the picture. Web sites like http://www.panoramio.com/ which make a kml file to view your pics in google earth.
At the moment tho i have to find these coordinates by using picasa 2
and using their geotag option but you still have to find the location manually on google earth
download picasa here: http://picasa-server.com/?s=yp_uk&OV...MTC=s tandard
It would be so much easier to be able to just take a pic on the Artemis and have the coordinates automacally embedded on to the file!
Any new ideas please please????
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocoded_photo
it mentiones quite a few methods of including geotag into a picture. i think the best method suiting your needs would be:
Wikipedia said:
Syncing coordinates from GPX tracks into the Exif header using software that compares time stamps. The software programs RoboPhoto, RoboGEO, Quakemap, and TopoFusion, as well as the web-based services GeoSnapper and Thingster, can match up photos in this way. For the Mac, PhotoGPSEditor will do the trick.

also, i remember seeing somewhere a software which logged gps position into a simple log file, so it would be easy to develop an app which use that data without dealing with gps receiver. Now if we had a software that edits exif jpeg tags on pocketpc, we could use this gps log file... i know thats the big if...
got it sorted check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1143082#post1143082

I'm looking to get more out of my GPS usage....
Is anyone doing anything interesting other than road navigation ? I'd like to load in things like way points for walks and cycle rides - either ones from the net or just ones I plot in advance.
But I'm even worse at GPS than I am a cycling - so wondered if anyone has tips ?
Thanks,
JJ
You can use ather off-road programs, like OZI CE and COMPE Pocket Land.
They're ideal for biking
Go flying!!
I took mine up in the plane yesterday while flying around my local airport. Dumped the GPS data and made a 3d track file for Google Earth that is color coded with speed too. The result is pretty cool! Download the free version and import the file attached to see the kind of things you could do with any other activity - not just flying!!
Hi, how do you manage with this file ?
What do we do with it after dl ?

download the free version of Google Earth http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html (if you have not used this it is *very* cool!)
You can then open the KML file above and you will see the 3d track of the flight. You may not be exactly interested in flying but there are many applications for the same idea.

This is really cool!! could you tell me, how to prepare klm file by myself? what kind of software do i need on my Wizard? (of course i have gps receiver) - this is really nice, i'd like to be able to generate this kind of tracks of my trips...
Ok, i took a good look at google earth application and i've found a link to gpv visualizer (http://www.gpsvisualizer.com)
i believe that's what You used ;]. whats the greatest thing about it is the fact it supports gps track file of Automapa - polish road navigation software - very popular and quite good - now i'm able to visualize my own roadtrips... thanks for the idea.
Yes you got it right. The GPSVisualizer web site lets you convert lots of different GPS data formats to get a KML file. My GPS software on the TyTn is called GPS Tuner. It saves a TRK file with position, altitude, time etc in a text file. I opened it in M$ Excel and saved out a CSV file which the web site would read and convert to KML - there may be a much easier way but I got this to work so never looked deeper!!
It's fun to try this kind of thing!!
As i mentioned - i was lucky and i can put my Automapa's *.gps file directly to GPSVisualiser. I'm gonna play around with POI files as well, i think it will also work. anyway, its a good news for my fellow polish friends on this forum ;]
But i am still hungry for any other funny/impresive use of gps software, anyone has something even better in mind? sorry bodypilot, but since i don't own the plane myself, the coolest thing i can do is to record a track while ice-skating - which is kinda funny, but still ... ;]
have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294682
Im trying to find out a way of geotaging the standard camera pictures of the pda
i think i have an idea that is a bit round about, but might work. i'll give it a thought tonight. anyway, useles for me, since wizard camera sucks, so i don't plan posting any picture taken with it ;]
Hi, though I don't have gps, I have been looking up what I could do with it, to see if it really is worth it...
I found the following link, that really seems to have a great potentiall!

regards,
I've got a good one here. Recently I unlocked the GPS mode on my Polaris and with great excitement ran around taking geotagged photos of everything. However upon uploading to flickr I noticed that my photos were mapping incorrectly, with my latitude being "reversed" i.e. I am in West London, and my photos are showing up in East London. Therefore I tried a few other sites (google maps etc.) and some exif viewer programs and all of them confirmed that my exif data is being captured without the appropriate "-" sign when I am west of Greenwich. Does anybody have a clue about how to fix this?
The only way I know of is to increase how far West you are, once you pass the -1deg line it works fine, why the phone only applies negative values when below 1 deg W but anywhere above 1 deg W it works is indeed a strange one - Mike
Thank you for the answer. i guess that that is at least something I can keep in mind when I visit the U.S., or Ireland or something. It certainly is a good thing for HTC that only the 60 million or so people in the U.K. will be affected by this...
Locr
Personally I'm using Locr's (http://www.locr.com/) software instead. It also tags the pictures with geodata and you can optionally upload them instantly to your private and/or public albums online.
They have software both for Windows and Pocket PC/Windows mobile. Try it and see if it will tag the pictures correctly. If not, then it might be a problem with the GPS on the HTC's.

Hello...
I once heared about a tool which adds the current GPS position as signature to an E-Mail. Does anybody know such software?
Thanks a lot!
Whilst this app won't automatically put the GPS info in the text/ e-mail it can be used to copy the present position to the clip board so it is a simple tap/ hold and Paste to put the data in to the area you want http://www.geoterrestrial.com/ Better still it is free and also allows geo tagging of pictures - Mike
Hello,
I'm looking for a program that uses the built in GPS of the Touch Pro to record a track & then be able to show the time taken to do the track, the time, speed & altitude at various parts of the track, & be able to be overlayed over a satellite image from google maps or other map file.
I can't find anything that does all this. Does anyone know of a software like this?
Thanx
look for trackme. That will do everything your require.
Thanx that looks fairly close to what I wanted, I'm just not sure how well it will work since I want to use it for motor sport but i'll give it a try.
Any other programs out there?
Hi (and Salam) friends,
Since, HD2 has a built-in compass and google maps, I am looking for a qibla direction finder. If there is not any thing out there like this, are there any SDK's available to access the built-in compass ?
I have never done any programming on WinMo, but I am happy to bring out my rusted programming skills, since I used to be a software developer in my other life!
Any ideas ?
Welll the compass has a builtin function to set a destination, and you'll then be able to see the direction to it on the compass.
Failing that, if you need to build your own app, there's no compass API, so some hackery and back engineering would be involved.

The only "inconvenience" to that is to remember the exact GPS coordinates to the destination, i.e. Makkah, Saudi Arabia in this case! Not very handy!

How easy or hard it is to "reverse-engineer" or "hack" into the compass ?
Another quick question, does the HD2 have an internal hardware based compass ?
Wasalaam bro.
I used a proper Qibla direction program on my 3GS in the past - it was quite accurate - I can't say if the one in our HD2's is though - it seemed a bit 'off' to me, but then again there are two types of north so not sure which one our HD2's points to.
As much as I'd love to have a program that does that on my HD2 (and would be willing to pay for it) - simple thing to remember is that no matter where we are in the UK - Point your compass to South-South East (thats half way between south and south east btw ) and you'll be close enough mate
It beats the time I was in nowhere in middlesborough trying to figure out which way to pray according to the Sun! LOL
Not sure I understand why you can't just use the built-in compass. I use googlemaps to find the direction and then align with the green dot. Admittedly the position is lost when you reset the device, but it's not too difficult to remember the degree position (eg. 138 degrees SE).
Your query intrigued me so I figured Id have a crack at it.
For those interested, the Digital Compass (app) is quite simple to use. You just set the "Picked" entries in HKLM\Software\HTC\DigitalCompass and then run \Windows\DigiCompass.exe
I got the coordinates for Kaaba here, and it seems right on Google Maps.
Im not 100% convinced by the accuracy of the compass. It does seem repeatable away from the computer though, so I guess you would just have to spin it around a couple of times to be sure.
Edit: I should add that for me (in the UK) it reckons its SE, not SSE, so you might want to compare it against a more reliable source before using it.
Here is a little app written for ce4arab - read here http://www.ce4arab.com/vb7/showthread.php?t=119864&highlight=%C8%D1%E4%C7%E3%CC+%C7%E1%DE%C8%E1%C9

taiseer999, Can you dig a direct link to the application/download. Currently, the website asks for an account, and its in Arabic language, so not really easy for us.
Link to a app usage description page would be much better (ideally in ENG ), so we know what we are getting into.
Both of you are shining stars !

From ce4arab.com
need kıbla degree for your position,
see,
http://www.namazvakti.com/Main.php?WSLanguage=EN
My solution is simple, get any pictures of the kibla in the net, turn the pictures into footprints pic and then insert the qibla coordinate to it. From the footprint select the qibla pictures and the menu then select digital compass. Then you're done.

Qibla Direction Finder is simple that can be used to find Kabaa direction for muslim prayer. This app need Compass and Qibla GPS sensor on your android device to calculate the angle of your location to Kabaa position, where the position of Kabaa we get at 21.422523 latitude and 39.826184 longitude from Google Maps.
qibla direction or mecca finder is simple and helpful app for muslims anywhere in the world to find accurate (Kaaba) qibla direction. qibla direction finder is a most accurate qibla direction compass and qibla locator.
