memory card not recognized -> do you want to format message - General Topics

Hello all,
sometimes my HTC magician does not recognize my 2gb sd card.
When this happens, a message pops up asking me if I want to format the card.
If I take out the card and reinsert it into the device, everything's fine (card woks like a charm).
Is there any way to disable the "do you want to format" system message? Because if I press "OK" accidentially (e.g. when the phone is in my pocket), everything on the card would be erased.
So, does anyone of you know of any registry tweak / program / workaround to disable this message? Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in avance!!

if i were you i'd put the card into a pc cardreader copy what it have to the pc
and say yes when it ask to format
reasons:
1. the file system could be getting corrupt
2. card could be die'ing
3. sd slot in phone could be die'ing
removing a system warrning like that would result in nothing but tears

Thanks for the advice, already did that.
But still, the card works fine, only sometimes the message pops up and I want to know if there#s a way to disable it.

HELP! What's in my SD?

I am using the Darkforce ROM of WM 6.1, after I insert a SD in my Universal, I found that aa file generated automatically called "EncFiltLog.menc". It will continuous exist no matter I deleted it or not.
Anyone know what is "EncFiltLog.menc"??
By the way, I am using Transcend 16GB SDHC. Today, I found that my PPC can't detect it suddenly, I tried to insert it on my NB, but there are some files halt! When I double click it and wait for a moment, a messege box appear and say there are some problem about I/O device. No any device can detect my card now, anyone know what's the issue? I even can't format it now...
Please HELP!!
THANKS YOU VERY MUCH!
.menc files
.menc files are encrypted files.
When you set the option to encrypt files (Start\Settings\System\Encryption) then anything new that is saved to your SD card will be encrypted (and will have this extension - although this extension doesn't appear when viewing from the device that encrypted the files).
To read the file, you must view it via your device. (You can view/transfer it onto your PC via active sync from the device that encrypted it).
If you have reflashed your device without backing up your SD via active sync, then I don't think there is any way of recovering the file . (NB. I copy everything from my SD card to my computer before reflashing, and then copy it all back again ).
Hi my friend!
I had the same issue but with things 4.1 ROM. I don't know how, but i tried every day to format my sd card, and after 5 days it worked I have also this file in the root... It's the encryption file i think...
Mine was a 2GB panasonic SD not an SDHC... Keep trying!
Thanks for all reply!
But I found that I haven't tick the option of"Start\Setting\System\Encryption" , but the file still exist! I don't know why...
Any my SD issue....
I an using this ROM for few weeks already, but not newly flashed. My SD have no problem before. Haven't backup the datas is my mistake! I am so regreted. My SD is now can't detect from all device, and I can't format it also.
ALL DATAS ARE LOST!! Just wanna cry!
damaged sd-card!
Hi! Had the same problem with my new kaiser. Also thought about problem of ROM or the device itself. But it was just the SD-Card itself. Bougth a new one - no probs anymore...
any true solutions to this?
I have this same problem, so the only way to fix it is to get a new card?
Step By Step To Delete File EncFiltLog.menc (EFLG.m)
1) Insert your SD into Card Reader Cut EFLG.m
2) Paste insde your PC
3) Defrag your SD card
4) Select Option Tools>Folder Options>View Select Show hidden file
5) Now you can see new folder ie File 0000
6) Delete the folder
7) Now your SD card become as original
I read somewhere (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2718217&postcount=9) that the hidden file "EncFiltLog.menc" is stored on every SD-Card by WindowsMobile weather encryption is activated or not.
So it should be no problem to have it on the card - as long as everything works.

Stock rooted - sd card strangeness

Well, I stock rooted yesterday, and all went well, except for my sd card.
I did the "wipe" stock rooted and removed my sd card before doing so, so that I would lose the items on the sd card. But a couple folders are missing/hiding or I can't see them.
I'm missing the Camerazoom folder that had all my images in it, as well as all the music that I've had on my sd card. I've had the music on that card for over 3 years, and now I can't seem to find it.
Would this be hidden somehow? Is there a Windows app that will let me view all the items on my sd card while it's in the phone? I have the drivers installed and I can peruse my card and my phone, but am not finding either folder using this method.
Please advise and thank you.
Hey wolfgrrl,
Can you directly connect to computer or
use an SD Reader to check for the files.
This will verify if they are there or not.
Sometimes (and I have seen this happen before)
just removing the SD Card (for about a minute) then
replacing it may fix it 4U.:victory:
Just remember to turn off phone first, then remove
battery, then remove SD Card. Reverse order and turn
on phone.
Hope This Helps:fingers-crossed:
Unfortunately, that did not work. :crying:
I don't have a reader for a card this small. Such is life.

[Q] My Xperia E Dual Sd external problem

Hello guys I have Sony Xperia e dual (c1605 android 4.1.1). I brought 4gb micro sdhc class 4 card. When I saved musics and images there after some time some musics can't be played and images can't be shown. Also if I save unknown type files on it(java games and android games data and obb files) insted of them appears a lot of files with unknown symbol names. I cant delete them and es file explorer shows that folder size up to 400 gb. Please help me, its my phone problem or sd external card? I hope I explained my problem well.
Hello,
Well, first of all, it's probably a phone problem. Second of all, WHY BUY A CLASS 4? Man, those things are slooooooooooooooow. But I'll try to help! So:
Option 1: try to move every file on the external sd to the internal memory (if you have enough space left), power off your device. Put your sd card back in, and reboot the phone. Then try to move the files you moved earlier to the internal storage, back to the sd card. See if it works.
Option 2(requires pc): power off your device. Important! Otherwise your phone could go to an endless rage of force closes. Believe me, you don't want to have that. It's not harmful nor wil it brick your device. It's just plain annoying.
Remove the sd card, and put it in your card reader, and then into your pc. Backup the content(important!). Then go to your main folder in the computer(probably called: Computer ). Right click on the sc card symbol-> choose Properties, and then search for the tab where it says ''format''. So format it, just keep it FAT32.
Wait for it to be finished, and then move the back-upped content back to the sd. Insert sd card in powered off phone, and reboot. If this doesn't work, I would be really amazed .
Succes, and have a nice day!
Hope I helped!

Android via MTP completely bugged my micro sd card

I was reorganizing files on my computer and sd card. For this i had to delete lots of stuff, etc. MTP was being slow so i decided to remove the micro sd card and use a card reader instead to speed things up.
Something screwed up real bad. Now the card is locked. When i plug in the card reader i can see and read the files, i can delete them, delete everything, but when i plug in the card back again - as if nothing happened.
The native format from windows explorer fails to start. It reports an error: The device, \Device\Harddisk5\DR20, has a bad block.
The diskpart utility fails as well with an error: Cannot zero sectors on disk \\?\PhysicalDrive3. Error code: [email protected]
SD Memory Card Formatter from sdcard org - this program succeeds in format without errors, but when i unplug in insert card - everything is the same
The Disk Wipe - Portable v1.7 program succeeds in format, but again - when reinsert the card - everything is back as it were.
When i reinsert the card in the phone, the phone will initiate a 'check for errors', take a lot of time, won't report any errors found and eventually the thing says card is mounted. But when i attempt to access it - the File Manager hangs and needs to close. If i try to unmount the card, the process take a lot of time so i just unplug it.
What can be done? Never had problems with this card, this thing occurred just now. It's unbelievable.
EDIT: Disk Wipe failed as well - said all NTFS boot sectors unwriteable.
Same here!

I have this exact same problem. 8Gb SD Card on Card reader, something went worng, now the files that are there, never change. I can't put new files, if I delete old ones they come back after un-plug and plug-in again.
I was able to make "something" happen, after a while, I reformatted it in exFAT and then again to FAT32. The Old drive name did change to the new one I've selected, and the files are gone, but now it's completely empty it says all the space 7,50 Gb is free, but I can't access it, nor can I clean the partition table using Diskpart, I get Access Denied (as admin and readonly=no) error and on Event Viewer I get error [email protected]
Anyone? Please? Save our Flash drives? Thanks.
I know this thread is old but it's the first result on Google when searching for the error code, so I'm posting my reply. Someone on Spiceworks linked to this tool. It formatted my broken SD card that had this exact issue, and now I can use the card again like normal.
