File Icon Settings problem - General Topics

My MP3 files have no icon (default white box windows logo) in any file explorer. I also have had no luck finding any settings, anywhere, to change the file icons to set it back manually. Does anyone know how to select an icon for a file type??
As it seems, I cannot avoid this problem while having TCPMP and Resco File Explorer installed at the same time, no matter which version. Uninstalling either or both apps does not fix it. For testing issues, these are the only two things I've installed, and the problem still occurs. Only a hard reset will correct this issue.
I have an unlocked 8125 that I've been cancelling the Cingular customization for, since i'm on T-Mo.

Comm Manager - missing discriptions for icons?

I read somewhere this may be due to a system font being replaced but I have not installed any new software in weeks.
Anybody know how to recover? I can't afford a hard reset.
Descriptions, But no icons or background
Maybe our problems have the same cause. The comm manager wizard worked for me before on my 8525. Then updated to WM6 and now it installs partway and stops. Message is "not enough permissions". I get the text for the buttons, but not the icons or background. Also can't afford a hard reset.
Would rather have your half of the problem. At least you can still see the keys.
Update. I was able to fix the problem.
At: http://blogs.conchango.com/stuartpreston/archive/2005/11/10/2376.aspx
found directions. Have included them below as modified to fix my particular problem.
The following reg editor at the blog site did not do the job on my 8525. RegEditSTG http://blogs.conchango.com/stuartpreston/files/regeditSTG.zip
I used the reg editor at here:http://www.8525software.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,27/func,fileinfo/id,86/
Followed the directions for what keys to fix in the link above. Reinstalled the comm manager "CommManager_8button_wizard.cab" and it works well. Looks good, too.
The reg edit I used works on the 8525 remotely from the PC. Just unzip and execute with the 8525 connected. Change the security policies as follows:
Navigate to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Write down any entries you change, before you change them.
Delete the entry you need to change.
click add DWORD and insert the correct values in the dialog on the PC's screen.
Change "00001001" value to 1 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 2)
Change "00001005" value to 40 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 16)
To fix the security policy, I changed only ...005 to 40.
Reboot device.
I believe WM6 is taking on the same baggage as PC Windows, so that this type of fix will become the norm instead of the exception.

Internet Explorer Freezes

Hello
I have a problem in my cruise (stock english rom):
The internet explorer freezes about 5 second after loading a page, it can't even load google.com it freezes everything even the keys not responding and I have to do soft reset.
Opera is working fine.
I changed things in registry according to guides here and made tweaks with SKTools, Schaps Advanced Settings and SPB Pocket Plus my cruise is perfect now except this annoying problem - even if accidentally enter the explorer i have to reset...
I installed PIE 6.1 and its the same problem so uninstalled it and IE still freezes.
I changed back settings for PIE in SKTools, Schaps and SPB, but the problem still remains, guess I just need the default registry setting for internet explorer but don't know where to search..
So maybe someone knows where are the internet explorer registry and what values should be the default?
Thanks...
My Orbit 2, with stock ROM, also does the same.
It's happened 2 or 3 times now where the phone freezes on the IE explorer page that is open, and will not reposnd to anything apart from a soft-reset.
I think it fixed by settings in SKTools, now its browsing slow but no freeze!
The settings:
font cache:2000
TCPwindow size:98304
Defaul TTL:128
IP multcasting:2
PIE input buffer:80
FS cache:2048
Where is the registry key for PIE input buffer?
In SKTool i cant set what i want only predefined...
one other thing to check....
did you use one of the tweak apps to put IE temp files on storage card instead of main memory?
If so, this is the reason it freezes. Same thing will happen if you tweak to put email attachments on storage card.

Thanx... if only you said it earlier would save me from HR...
But after HR my device is perfect with stock options, all the tweaks i made were useless...

sorry man
I'm not a Touch Cruise user (I use a Tilt) but I was cruising thru the TC forums today and figured I would chime in.
As suggested earlier, if you moved the cache and IE locations to the storage card you can get this behavior. I was getting this too. I changed it back to the default locations on the phone and that fixed the problem. HTH.

The latest Diamond Opera build works on Raphael!

Haven't had any problems with it so far, but did encounter issues installing it. I originally downloaded the upgrade zip file, which contained 3 .exe files that you should be able to just copy over existing ones. Only problem was the Raphael wouldn't let me! I tried it from Activesync and File Explorer and I even tried disabling Touch Flo and soft resetting, but no joy
So then I downloaded the full cab file. This said a previous version needs to be removed, then announces that it couldn't remove it and asks if you would like to install anyway so I said yes and it worked and said I need to soft reset, so I did.
I then experienced a weird crash on startup where absolutely nothing would respond whatsoever, so I did another soft reset and now everything is working as it should be.
Only differences I've notices so far is that a little "Opera Mobile" splash screen now appears when you start browsing and it runs a bit smoother than before.

If you want to replace any exe file, you have to stop it in task manager first ..I didn't have any problems with it..replaced it with file explorer..

Remove/Hide Phone Status

Happy New Year to all!
1) I'm using HTC on WM6.1, when turn off cellular radio at Comm Manager, the phone status will show "Phone Off" at "Phone" dialer screen.
How to remove/hide this "Phone Off" wording from showing at "Phone" dialer screen or anywhere in the phone. Or can i even change the "Phone Off" to some other word (Fake operator carier name)?
2) new to WM, how to browse/view \\windows folder?
Please help. Thanks in adavance!
NK
that's for changing the operator:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359563
and about browsing windows:
1. connect to your pc using activesync
2. go to your device's root folder (on your pc.. not your device)
3. dunno which version of windows/linux you're running, but you need to remove the "hidden" parameter from the windows dir...
then you'll be able to view it in your file explorer on your device...
1)
I can change operator name at registry w/o the app. But no matter what operator name u change, it will show "Phone Off" once you swith off the cellular radio option in Comm Manager.
(Simple, imagine using the pda with Sim Card/Phone function BUT phone status there show something else instead of "Phone OFF")
2)
i can't see any windows folder on my root folder (PC), i'm on WM6.1
1. i believe the link i sent you will solve this issue. try it.
2. you need to enable watching hidden system files on your comp.
which version of windows are you using?
1. aight, will try that 1st
2. i'm on vista, already enabled show system/hidden file
if you enabled showing HIDDEN SYSTEM FILES...
and you went to your root directory of your device (thru the computer, not thru the device), and disabled the Hidden property... there's no way you can't see it now.. unless something is very wrong over at your device's side
that's why do i missed anything? need to set anything on the device? just bought it all default setting..
nope. nothing. windows is generally marked as hidden. if you remove the parameter, you should be able to see it wherever.
which file explorer are you using?
normal windows explorer
hehe.. i meant on your device
erm..i can view it on my device but not in PC
you can view your windows folder on your device... and can't view it on your pc?
that's.... weird.
Yup.
Back to the first question, How to remove/hide this "Phone Off" wording from showing at "Phone" dialer screen or anywhere in the phone. ?
The "Personalizer" app dint help, it will still shows "Phone Off" after set to off at Comm Manager.
Anyone?
please help!
anyone have solution?
I'm sorry, i searched and searched and couldn't find anything relating to this subject.
It's ok, thanks for your help! hope some expert reply my thread with solution 1 day.
Maybe i make thing complicated.
What i want is actually OFF the phone (only PDA function), nobody can call in but when my girlfriend play around with my phone, she won't know i OFF the phone! i think your should know why i'm doing this.. but thats off topic!
SO, any other phone dialer than dont have this "Phone OFF" status showing? so that i can replace current dialer. i had use WM5, thats fine, no phone/network status showing, but dont tell me to downgrade to WM5..heh

There is a number "1" on my taskbar

All of a sudden I notice a "1" on my taskbar. What is it, how can I remove it?
I've lost the ability to view my Wi-fi signal since this number is using it's spot.
Cheers,
Paul
i've never seen that before.... can you load a screenshot?
Image
Here it is, notice left to the EDGE Icon.

Maybe it means that line number 1 is being used, I used to see that on Nokia phones but never on a WM device...
Dual line or sim card
Hi
I think that WM can display this number if it thinks you have a dual SIM card or two lines on your SIM card. How you might change lines, etc, I have no idea. I don't think the feature is fully supported in WM.
Cheers

No Dual SIM here, and I don't have 2 lines on the phone. Out of nowhere it just appeared. I just want it to not be displayed>

Did you try to modify icons in the taskbar from the mui files? Cause if you did, maybe something got messed up during the change. When did it start? Was it at a random moment, after you up/downgraded your Rom, been happening since you got the device?...Also, does it keep on happening if you soft reset.
Nope, didn't try to modify anything in the windows / mui's, only once i installed the HTC Call Recorder, since it didn't work i uninstalled that, but that was in november. This happened in random about 3 days ago...i thought it was like an updated "voice mail messages". It hasn't gone away. It stays after soft resets, i even searched through options in advanced Config.
Paul
OK. Get a file explorer that lets you view hidden files, such as Total Commander. Then unhide all files. Search for image files, probably a .bmp. Find the image that looks like your number 1 (it'll look different, probably black and white), and find what folder it is in. That will give you an idea of what program is using the file. If it is just in the windows directory, find its properties IE when was it installed there. That might let you narrow it down to a day. It's a hard work around, but it should work.
Apart from Dual Sim, I don't know of any program that would put a 1 in your bar, except for 1xRTT.bmp.
Where should I unhide the files? Windows Folder?
Paul
THe "Unhide files" option usually unhides files across the whole device, not folder specific, much the same as in Windows XP. There may be other options about which files to unhide, you want to unhide ALL of them, including system files.
understood, but where would i seek the "1.bmp" file per say....
You would need to use the search tool and search for ALL .bmp files. And if it is not there, than ALL .png files. And if it is not there than ALL .jpg files. And if it is no there than ALL .jpg files. It shouldn't be any other extension. You would have to search through each group of images until you came to the one which you are seeing. It's a long drawn out process, but should solve your problem eventually, or at least provide you with a little more information on what's going on.
UPDATE
Here is an update on my issue:
When I turn on my Bluetooth, the number goes away.....but when I turn it off, it reappears. Will do the searches now from work.
Paul
I also have a number "1" in my task bar now. I recently changed providers and it apeared when i insertet my new sim-card. Using wifi, bluetooth or other program that creates a taskbar icon makes the "1" dissapear. I have no clue what it means or does. :/
