Anyone know of any new phones on O2 UK? - General Topics

Does anyone know if O2 are planning on releasing any new XDA phones in the near future? Within 6 months or so. I know there are new models being produced, but as far as O2 releasing them...
I e-mailed customer services, and they said they 'couldn't tell me'.
Many thanks.

Not sure, but since they don't seems to be having any of the new HTC phones, in 6 months, I would say yes.

Yes there will.
There will be new devices released in the very near future, and quality as well.
The only thing is, as i work there, i cant mention anything more.
Cheers.

Thanks for your replies. I might hold onto my Wizard for a bit yet then, rather than get a Universal. Are you allowed to say when the new models are being introduced? And if there is one which can compete with the Universal?
Many thanks.

Good News on Crossbow availability!

I just attended a session with our Corporate wireless providers: Verizon, Cingular and Sprint regarding US devices.
When I specifically asked the question "Will you be providing WM6 updates to existing devices", the answer was pretty much universally "Yes"
Very unexpected! From an HTC standpoint, this covers Wizard, Hermes and Apache handhelds and may be one of the reasons behind why we've been seeing leaked WM6 ROMs for these devices already. Palm enthusiasts should see the 700W series refreshed as well. I'm not in a position to speak Internationally here, but for the US at least, this is very welcome news!
I believe the reason is that WM6 contains significant security enhancements that are pretty much business driven: SD encryption tops the list here. Windows Update is also huge (especially now, given the DST patch issues with corporate IT staffs trying to roll it out to mobile users).
Additionally, WM6 is closer to an AKU refresh than it is to a whole new OS. Crossbow resembles AKU3.x in many respects.
Bottom line: It doesn't appear that the "Buy a new device to get WM6" mentality is going to play out with WM6. From a device pipeline perspective, there's reasons for this too. Lot's of cool new stuff is coming. That, not the promise of a fixed or patched OS, should always be the device upgrade enticement IMO.
What about Uni?
Edit: Nevermind. Forgot that no carrier has Uni in the US.
this is great news. it does contradict a lot of other view's i've read.
some ass burglar on howardforums.com told me (very nastily too) that the wizard support will be at end of life in a couple of months. hence, no wm6 official rom update from carriers.
rebuttal, anyone?

I can't see that happening. I bought my Cingular 8125 when they first rolled out with my local Cingular store in February, 2006 and had to sign a 2-year agreement. They'd BETTER support it for the full 2 years of my contract, or I'll be going elsewhere. Doesn't matter to me, though. It's already unlocked, so I can use it on ANY carrier's network.
Would just be a "bust" for Cingular, though -- with all the business I've sent their way after being a satisfied customer for 8 years. I can always send people somewhere else, too.
The 8125 isn't on Cingular's EOL list. The 2125 is however....

Doesn't matter. . . I'm already running Crossbow. I figured "why wait for Cingular??" I didn't want all that JUNK in their Extended ROM, anyway.
Hey sleuth, If the 8125 isn't there on cingular's list, do u know if its there on T-mobile list (for the MDA?), we can always take a little "help" from t-mobile ROMs to update the other lesser priviledged wizard variants...
Sorry, I've not heard anything about TMo devices.
Well, with pressure from other telco company, i'm pretty sure tmob will need to do something about it. The question is now then.. WHEN
Glad to here that the carriers will be giving this update.....its about time.
in my country, o2 zinc was just released with wm5... and i was just thinking that this is a sign that wm6 wouldn't be available for my dopod 838pro...
this is truely good news indeed... infact it's better then windows vista which is crap now that i've tested it...

Good question, that.
A few months ago (after I got my V2... around September last year), I was speaking to a TM tech support guy as he was setting up my HSDPA (managed to get it sorted before they got all arsey about non-corp customers ringing up and asking for it ). I asked him about any possible roadmap for Crossbow for the Hermes and other capable devices, and he said that they had absolutely no plans for at least the next 12 to 18 months regarding WM6 rollout or availability for their existing supported devices.
Of course, I hope this changes given the US carriers saying yes (from what I've read above), but I can't imagine TM will jump on it quicksharp. I'd expect O2 to offer it first out of anyone.
I would assume, then, that those of us running HTC unbranded/unlocked products will eventually get them. My TyTN is just a month old and I borderline hate it (running the original 7/06 ROM- I'm too much of a coward to hack an updated ROM into it)
But I'm in Chicago enjoying 3G love (on a $25 unlimited legacy blue plan) and it's like heroin: there's no way I could go back my to my Treo 650. So this will keep my hopes alive for the time being.

Buying a new phone.. HTC Touch or wait for Kaiser

I looked.. i hope this has not been asked before.
About a month ago I came across my first windows mobile device. This device is the Typhoon. After comming from a line of nokias and moto razrs I quickly fell in love with windows mobile operating phones. Thank god, i used to want an iPhone and after doing the research I now know the error of that way.
I want Touch FLO, I want WM6.
Now this is the dilemma, I have recently been able to save up enough money for a Touch. Should I buy it or wait for the Kaiser?
Here is what I need answered to properly assess this.
The touch seems nice but the idea of the qwerty with 400 mhz processor and more rom/ram plus 3 megapixel camera seems like enough to sell me on a Kaiser.. or is it. Does anyone have any idea of a release date for the Kaiser? I heard sometime in late August? Also how much do we expect to pay for the Kaiser.. $600-$700 any leaked figure I have not read anyone? Does anyone have any idea if it will be possible to put Touch FLO on Kaiser without bricking it? Not fake button flo.. i mean real flawless Touch FLO. I have heard the Kaiser's screen will not allow Touch FLO. Is this true?
Now my questions for the Elf.. Is there any figure on how high it can be overclocked.. i have heard some say 240-260 mhz but I have also read 299 mhz. Anything over 300? Does the elf normally get sluggish in its touch flo interface while running applications?
Would I regret buying the Elf in the near future?
I am sorry for so many questions but everything I read people always say different things. Help!!
Late August or early September seems to be the consensus, at least for its availability in Europe. Note that some carriers will offer their own branded versions (T-Mobile in Germany labels it as the Vario III, Cingular in the US calls it the 8925) -- these versions may be somewhat less expensive (especially the Cingular version, since they subsidize phones by locking you into a contract).
Availability in the US seems a bit more problematic. Kaiser hasn't been certified by the FCC yet. Also, the US currently has an import ban on new devices using Qualcomm 3G chipsets -- the fallout from a intellectual property lawsuit filed by Broadcomm. There's some question as to whether or not Kaiser is subject to this ban.
The TouchFLO software will run on Kaiser -- the demo video at expansys.com shows it in action.
thanks
Thanks man, but any idea about what I was asking on overclocking a touch?

Polaris vs. Samsung Omnia (i900)

This is not so much to learn the comparison because I have did the research. But i'm hoping to get advise from the good people on the forum, whereas I rely on you guys and girls sound opinion. Thanks
Which one would you recommend? Both are looking excellent. I'm close to the amount needed to get one. With all the activity on the Polaris....I have leaned toward this....but I just discovered the Samsung Omnia.
I'm in the US though and both are not available here, so i have to import it.
Thank you for your reply in advance!!!
Hello Kenjari,
I do not own samsung device, but week before I have decided to buy polaris.
If I would not found this forum, I will probably be very unhappy customer of HTC.
I had several issues with Polaris before flashing official rom.
- reactions of device were quite slow (in comparison with unofficial rom - now its okay for me)
- gsm signal was horrible. Often I was without service even my ordinary cell phone was showing full signal strength. Again, after flashing radio everithing is okay.
So for me, if I will not flash my device, it would be complete useless.
But again, now I am quite happy
Thanks nikomach for your insight because i read by a reviewer that right out of the box it was a good device. Of course, i havent experience to many official ROMS right out of the box that were good.
Thanks again.
Please if anyone else have insight please post.
The Crusie is a triband-3G and quadband GSM. I believe the Omnia doesn't cover all the bands for 3G. You should check that the 3G band that it has covers the one for your carrier, but I doubt it. That's the main drawback to the Omnia, other than that it looks like a solid device.
By the way here's a good thread comparing the Diamond with the Omnia:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_diamond_vs_samsung_i900_omnia-review-262.php
I know you were asking about the Cruise vs Omnia but this article should still give you good insight.
Thanks hambola. This provided some good details on the Samsung i900. I will check if the future tmobile 3G will work with that device.
Good link!!!
Anymore opinions. This is really helping out!
Any other lasting opinions?
What about the Touchwiz GUI on the Samsung against the TouchFlo 3d Cruise?
Difficult choice!
I saw the video of the user interface of the Omnia and i think it's simply amazing!!
Besides that i think the Polaris is a much powerfull device.
The connectivity is simply the best, you have it all in just one light device.
I think i've read somewere that the Omnia doesn't have a stylus (don't no for sure), that being true i think it's a major problem. To work with some programs you need a stylus.
The Polaris can be costumized to be finger friendly or not, it's just your choice!
The biggest problem in the Polaris is the famous "driver issue", and that only makes me spend more time here at XDA!
In the end it's all up to you to make the difficult choice, they are great devices.
Good shoping!
Thanks HRQ.SLV. You are absolutely correct. The samsung ships with a stylus but its not connected to the devices. It simply just hangs by a string on the device.
The Cruise simply seems to be more versatile then the Omnia...offering stylus navigation or finger. But that Touchwiz...as new as it is.....seems impressive for a QVGA device!!!!
Whats up with the driver issue?
I have been looking around these threads lately trying to see the development of this device. The activity is great.
So far I feel informed. My only question is whether I should use the 2 in 1 unlocker....or just the simple Hard spl unlocker? ...if I purchase an unlock Cruise.
Thanks again buddy!!!!
One more question about this.
I have look online for the Cruise. I see prices ranging from $340.00 to $620.00. Why such a range in price? How come there isnt a consistent price for it?
If I go for the cheaper deal...does that mean the quality of the device will lower? Will it be used or something? I'm just curious!!
the lower the price usually means it's used. i'm selling mine and have sent you a detailed PM.
About hard.spl
I bought unlocked device too and had used Hard.SPL
Every flashing works just like charm
Price could depend whether navigation software and memory card are included in package.
Mine arrived with TomTom (useless for me) and without any memory card.
TomTom was soon officially replaced by iGO 2006 free of charge.
Touchwiz
Hey Kenjari, great news:
twolf is making a today plugin that looks just like Touchwiz!
You can take a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2550969#post2550969
If you decide for the Polaris it seems that you will have the possibility of having a similar look.
I'm anxious to try it out myself!
copualt3 thanks for the offer. just pm you back.
nikomach cool, so i will just use the Hard spl....thats all I need. thanx again buddy.
Bodisson I checked out one site and called to verify and they say its brand new, i checked the other site out and called and they said its brand new. No memory cards and same app Tom Tom on both. Yet there were a $200. difference. (The good think about the second site is that he told me what I should be paying for the polaris....and it was the amount of the first site )
I just dont want to be purchasing some used dud because I'm finding the best deal. I'm pushing for brand new.
HRQ.SLV, I heavily leaning toward the polaris now. I hope twolf perfects what he is doing....I have used some of his work and it works great. Thanks for the link.
Well everyone!!!! I truly appreciate your opinions and thoughts plus your resources. My choice is to come home to the Polaris. Its obvious I will be getting a better device for my buck. More versatility, and options. Also, the support of a community is needed with these devices....and this forum is that added support that money cant buy. I look forward to joining the family real soon.
Thanks again for this supportive community.
Okay, I think I should post this just to be on the safe side.
After searching for a Polaris I found one at website A. Website B was out of my budget. After great feedback from buddies at xda-developers, my preference examined, and checking my wallet, I decided to make the good investment and purchase it.
I ordered it from website A for 368.99 this past Sunday, and ignored website B. I just checked back on website A, and the price has shot up to Website B. What just happened?
I checked thoroughly, it didnt say any where that it was used, refurbished, or anything. I also took the liberty to email support and ask why they had such a deal on a brand new device, they replied:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your interest in our products.
All devices and accessories offered by *##$)# are brand new and come in their manufacturer's original packaging. All phones offered are unlocked. We do sell used and refurbished products, but they are always noted clearly on the product page.
We are able to offer the prices we do because we seek out the best most efficient ways to bring these products to our customers.
If you have any other questions please contact us.
Kind Regards,
Its set to be delivered tomorrow. What did I just order? Why in the hell did the price go up right after I ordered my phone?
Thanks buddies.
I hope when ever it arrives I'm not in for some suprise.

Maybe they have discoverd that there will be a WM6.1 release for Polaris in September!
Or they just read this thread and learned that it's a great device!
That could be!!
Okay folks. I have just recieved my Polaris. I'm not sure what to look for as far as it been new or used.
First, it has the touchflo sticker on top of the phone. But I can see some finger smudge or something on sticker. I'm observing the protective screen and it looks a little on the scratched side, a few marks here and there.
It seems to have everything in the box, plus a 1gb sd card. Does that come with all Polaris's?
...............
Well after turning it on. Reveiwing the device, unpacking the accesories and stuff, I have come to two conclusions: 1. Either the website had the price wrong and I fortunately got a brand new everything in the box, Polaris for almost three hundred dollars cheaper then 'common price'. 2. I manage to buy a "un-stated" used Polaris that look so damn new that it would fool the makers .
All in all, I'm glad i have one. I'm glad I had those here to help me make this decision. And so far, I'm content with what I have.
Kenjari
BTW....After two hours of playing with it, this ROM is a pretty damn good 'official' ROM. Much better then the Advantage ship ROM.
Are there any better ROM's out there that beats the standard shipped ROM?
came across this thread late
I own a TC since July and my husband just got his Omnia about 4 days ago. in my own opinion, the device already differs a lot in specification. so if you ask which device is good or better suited for you, you have to know what you will do with the device. I uses my husband's Omnia 2 times and finding that the "process" of setting up the device is kind of confusing compared to the easiness of setting up the TC. but if you want a camera with a big megapixel count, an iPhone like features (plus the look), Omnia is for you. for me, a regular web browser, the TC is enough for now. was wanting Raphael but the price tag is out of my reach
oh, and for the US, with Omnia, you can't get the ATT's 3G because the Omnia's 3G HSDPA band is only 2100MHz. the same case for my husband's Nokia N95 ...my TC and Sony Ericsson K850 works fine with ATT's 3G.

Tmobile Win Mob 6.1

Afternoon guys, Flame me if this has already been discussed but thought I pass the news of my repaired Vario 3... It had upon it Winmob 6.1...HEHEHEHE oh
Unfortunately I had to pass the poor little blighter back has it still had not fixed my original issue.
Thankfully as this issue has been going on for a while they kindly replaced it with a brand new Vario 3
The bad news the new Vario 3 had Winmob 6.0... Ah never mind. Any how, SBE are T-Mobile’s logistics repair centre and if this is the case then the official release should be soon on the web site (Well I hope, but I could be proven wrong.)
Apologises is this is old news... I've not had the time to search the issue, but know from past experience it can take a while from SBE to official.
This is all good and all but I don't understand why t - mobile have taken so damm long to rollout windows mobile 6 to its HTC devices. Its been out for a while now after all ...

I spoke with a Tmobile insider, I've even seen the Demo room in Hatfield where all the little devices are on show to the business peeps. I got the impression from both parties that the testing of this device along side the network must be fully working. If anything fails they start again and put the date back. But may I stress both parties were coy to admit what the faults were.
I dared to mention the Vario4 and a smirk came along his face with the Phrase "i'm not at libilty to say when that device will be available"
About time! I'd almost given up hope!
Shame I've fallen in love with Manila type ROM's now.... but this should be useful to flash the device back to stock T-Mobile whenever I come to sell it on or have a problem.
Thanks for the news, I'll keep a look out for it.
(And hopefull Tmobile will release the Vario4 soon, Im looking to upgrade in December! If not... I'll have to take my business somewhere else!)
I recently received my UK Vario III back from repair to find it had been updated to 6.1 too. Unfortunately it seemed to be buggier and leakier than the original 6.0 :-(
I've since put PDACornerUltimate on and find it a much more worthwhile upgrade

Any Further WM 6.5 News?

I'm considering jumping ship from my HD to iPhone. But in November I remember hearing that manufacturers were going to be receiving copies next month (this month, december).
So I took this to mean that we should probably be getting copies here on xda and over at ppcgeeks at least by feb but I was hoping sooner....I searched but didn't find much.
Anything more specific yet than "first half of 2009" or "q1 09" ??
I'm dying! If I jump to the fruit phone right as 6.5 comes out that would be pretty ridiculous, so I of course want to see what it has to offer first..(haven't really seen a lot of details on it).
If you search long enough you will always find a newer and even so much better mobile phone that freaks you out right after you bought your new device.
I thought the diamond was good - bad reviews. Then I thought the Touch Pro was good (think so) and then I heard about the Xperia X1 (good one) and then there is the Touch HD and the Wimax buddy. And that happened in how many months?
I don't think WinMo 6.5 will be so much of a revolution that the walls of the big apple building will collapse. Go and buy your iPhone, but don't come back crying in a few weeks and tell us about all the apps that don't exist / are not allowed to be sold in app store due to security restrictions.
