EZdial 2 gets upgraded - General Topics

Hi All, We have launched an upgraded version of EZidal v2.1. The new version enhance the dialing experience by adding contact pictures to the search:

Second major feature is allowing 'Send' button to dial directly to selected contact mobile phone if such is avialable.
Some bugs were also fixed so we urge you all to upgrade to the latest version (2.1) if you already have the software installed or try it if you haven't already done so.
Note that if you have an older version of EZDial installed, please uninstall it before installing new version.
Thanks,
Rave

But when are we going to see the upgraded version of your excellent program i.e. PhonePlus III which is compatible with WM5 and can work in portrait and landscape mode. Presently the version available does not work in the landscape mode.
Regards

srmz,
I am sorry to say that PhonePlus will not be developed further.
Can I ask what features are you missing in EZDial?
Rave

Hi and thanks for asking.
The feature I miss the most is the ability to search for a contact and then have the option to either dial the number or send a text message.

You can do the same with EZdial 2. And even better.
I recommend you to give it a try.

srmz,
Sphere is right.
After you find your contact and click it (or use the DPAD choose it) you can easily use WM option "Send SMS".
You will then be transferred to Windows SMS creation screen.
Does this what you mean?

HTC P3600
Michar,
I'm trying Ezdial on a HTC P3600 (Trinity). It seems to work as advertised except for the photo dialing part. When in the keypad if I press D-pad up I get into the phone's call history instead of ezdial. The HTC P3600 used the D-pad while in the keypad screen (whereas eg. the S200 does not) which prevents ezdial to be invoked, is that it? Is there any simple workaround for this?
Thanks,
ketq

Sorry to say that there is not an easy way around this,
This is a spesific model tweaks made by the manufacturer.
It is very hard for us to test against every model out there but we try and cover that as time passes by.
If we could get our hands on a HTC Trinity I can assure you we will test this behavior and issue a fix. Hope it does not deminish you the experience from the other parts of the software...

Do you happen to have the cab for the EzDial 2?
Do you happen to have the cab for the EzDial 2?

hi,
i had also tried the version 2.1
and i also have the error #1
and i know why
if i do a reset, the pda wait for input the pin code of telephone
if i deactived it, then it works.
well
SOLUTION:
deactive the PIN-Code and use the buitin code from WM5
(i have an eten M700)
or
changes in programm code.
maybe a check routine, if the telephon.exe is loaded or state is ok then load ezdial an cycle check this all x-seconds (like as it is in wisbar advanced 2)
so - i had to wait, because a little bit security for handy is not too bad
cu camel
PLS: @ devels
do you have a acces to log book ?
because only one day the full time is displayed.
you ask what is missing in ezdial to phoneplus ?
-> i miss the good log book from phoneoplus, because there i have the call time and delay of every telephon call and now i miss it

Still no luck with Vertical skin
Hi, michar,
is there a solution yet for the Vertical Skin?
Couse at every startup, it keeps annoying me with those "ContactPic1_Land" and other messages....
I would be the greatest fan of EZDial, if this thing could be fixed!

Hi gyplj,
What exactly do you mean Vertical skin problem?
Please elaborate some more: device, version, screenshots, etc
Thanks,
michar

biligual buttons
Is there any way to have buttons with 2 languages?
For example, I have english and russian installed, what I need is that, for example, button (2) had letters both from english (abc) and russian (àáâã) and searched on both english and russian. For some reason D-Pad does not switch between languages (I have Symbol MC35 device) so I tried to modify lang.ini as follows (example for button 2)
2.Display=2àáâãabc
2.Search=àáâãÀÁÂÃabcABC
The result - search is performed on both russian and english but button 2 displays only "bcABC" e.g. the last part of "Search" entry... If I rotate the screen to landscape I have more letters (the button is wider) but again - from Search entry of lang.ini, not Dispaly.
Any comments?

Hi shermanv,
Unfortunately, the display part is done by the WM dialer itself and not by EZdial. Therefore, it is subject to Microsoft algo of displaying the letters.
You may, however, use creative ideas we've seen such as replacing the skin itself with imprinted letters of your choosing.
Best regards,
Micha

Oh, please don't tease me with Treo's BATTERY METER!!! I want it on my Wizard! Does anyone know about something in that style? (please, don't tell me "use AKU2's default", guys...).
BTW.... question to Mr Vijay. I saw a pretty nice one on the screenshots on your website - (let me check...) - at VJCandela and VJBigPhone screenshots. What is that battery meter?
TIA, Alex
aperley: my battery meter screenshots are probably from the excellent SmallMenu Plus.
I posted the treo's battery meter years ago.
Here you go, with a screenshot showing it working fine on my Hermes.
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/!tools/treobatterymeter/treobatteryindicator.zip
V
Hi ViJay,
that seems to be the same thing posted long time ago in one of the Treo ripping threads. I've tried it that time, and it didn't work on my Wizard. The issues are following:
- it COMPLETELY overrides the volume control - not just the icon, but the slider as well. Moving the volume slider up or down causes the battery status notif to pop up. So, no way to control the volume anymore.
- it only shows battery charge at the moment of launch, and it doesn't change. I've launched it at 95%, now I have 90%, but the thing is still showing me 95%.
- after pluging the charger in, it changes the icon to "charging", but never changes it back.
Maybe I did something wrong? I've just unpacked the archive in a folder and launched the .exe.
And - question. What are those .bmp's for? Definitely not for Treo battery meter - they rather look like GS Battery meter (which doesn't work on WM5). And - I'm gonna try Small Menu
Thanks!
I don't know what the stuff is for, I just ripped out everything that said battery. As you said, it's not worth using, as it covers the volume icon. The one in the TyTN threads is much better anyway!
V
the 700w has the same feature and u can find an actually dump.bin that contains everything and registry which is available here. Just lettting yall know. maybe this helps.
That's where it came from. We dumped the Treo some time back... but thanks anyway!
Is anyone interested in this battery thing? I don't think it works properly on our phones, and there are better alternatives.
V
I've tried SmallMenu... That's exactly what I was loking for! Great thanks! I didn't really like the menu feature itself, but the battery meter is cool! Actually, I prefer the Treo battery icon style, so I made my own icon set - based on Treo screenshots. Hopefully, they are not copyrighted 8) First icon is not done - can't figure out what is it for. Check this out:
P.S. just Photoshopped it real quick... The lightning symbols on charging icons are messed up - will fix that later.

except for the threaded sms, that's new to the 750
There are a few goodies that the 750v has over the 700. One being the much desired threaded sms app, and also the much improved bluetooth stack that supports a2dp and voice dialing.
Here....
If anybody interested - Treo-like skin for SmallMenu Plus Battery icon. Icons modified to fit the limited space on the taskbar.
Just wondering if anyone had figured out a way to add that to an HTC device ? Not sure it's a standard plugin though as it gets activated/deactivated in the menu/preferences/Hide Lookup Field

I managed to get this to work on Faria's latest AKU 3.2 ROM which I installed today. I was playing with the registry and simply copied a key and changed a dll mapping, soft reset and presto!
The key that was copied was from the WebSearchPlugin found in this forum:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Web Search"]
"Order"=dword:0000002A
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Options"=dword:00000000
"Selectability"=dword:00000002
"Type"=dword:00000004
"DLL"="\\Windows\\WebSearchPlugin.dll"
I recreated the key changing the following lines only:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Dial Lookup"]
"DLL"="\\Windows\\DialLookupPlugin.dll"
Attached are a screenshot and a zip zrchive containing the registry settings that can be imported using your favorite registry editor.
NOTE: 1) that you must use your sliding keyboard..duh. and 2) the icons above and to the right of the input box.
Forgot to mention that this was done on my Wizard.
That's quite a big step!
Just imported the plugin on the Faria RC1 ROM. After the import I soft reset my device. First time I recieved an Shell error, by pressing "Ok", my Wizard restarted. Now it works fine
The wireless plugin showing the BT and Wireless doensn't work: "Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename".
I think the plugin is quite useless for Wizard users. Now you have to slide open your keyboard to search and dial a contact. When dialing you have to close the device again.
Like the Wireless part though
[edit]
Recieved the same message for the second time: "An unhandled error has occured in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell.".
Will restore a backup and let this plugin be for the moment
[/edit]
can you repost the dial lookup file? it seems to be corrupted
yeah can someone post the DialLookupPlugin.dll file
In the following thread you will find the zip archive containing both the dll and reg entry. Be sure to read the thread:

I've got the new version on my Samsung i730 (with WM5) and it works great, however . . . as with the WM2003 version, the vibrate function does not work. Other i730 users reported this as well on the old version.
David
I am glad to hear that you are happy with the product.
Unfortunately, we did not have access to every WM device out there
And anyhow, Samsung never actually published the API to vibrate the device, so this is probably the problem you experience.
If someone knows how, we will be more then happy to add that support to EZdial.
Regards,
Rave
great software guys. ive been using your products since the first phoneplus and this one beats them all.
I am using an ASUS P525 which i have bought in taiwan and i works just wonderfully with the built in num pad KB.
Thanks.
Well, I installed this liking that Picture dial screen ,but I am using the Eten dialer cab with paulya skin....could not get the contact dial to work. and using the default skin...was too big and couldn't get to the backspace to clear so tried the vertical, but it would only show one button instead of three for a match...will this just not work for those of us who have a different skin?
thanks
Hi MDANavymom,
Well the software was not intended originally for ETEN since the dialer is very much different from the default one. But I guess it is working and some quick guy from Israel adjusted the skin so you can try it out.
Link to skin:
http://rapidshare.de/files/23936966/EZDial_Eten_Grey.rar.html
Let me know if that helps, so we could upload the skin to our site.
Thanks,
Micha
Hi Michar,
Thanks for informing. The software looks great. But just a question before I install the trial version.
Will this work with the PPC in landscape mode. I am asking this because I have an I-Mate Jasjar and mostly I keep in the laptop mode which means the screen is in landscape mode. Some times back I loaded the phoneplus II application and it did not work in the landscape mode as it would hide the bottom most row of buttons. And what about Phoneplus III for WM5 does this work in landscape mode.
I shall be obliged if you can provide us with this information
Regards
The software os designed to work with every resultion and every orientatin. Meaning it will work in QVGA, VGA and square in protrait and landspace.
It only requires the proper skin to be used.
The release comes ready with QVGA portraint, landcsape and square and was tested successfully on Wizard in supoprted modes.
I will publich some VGA skins ofr the JJ later today that will work fine for you.
Stay tuned.

Can you please specify what excatcly is not working in teh picture dial?
If you go to the install directory i.e \Program Files\EZdial\ and launch PictureDial.exe directly - does it work then?

If I launch directly by going into \Program Files\EZDial\PictureDial.exe, yes it does launch, but when I am in the phone and press up on d-pad for speed dial...I get the default speed dial screen.

This is because the ETEN dialer uses the DPAD up for it's own use.
Unfortunately, I am not sure there is anything we can do here.
If we could add that to the menu would that be helpfull for you? Is that something that you would use? i.e right softkey and then - picture dial?

Sorry for being such a pest.

Hi Michar,
Thanks for your very prompt response regarding my query on screen orientation and working of Ezdial.
Just one more thing does your latest WM5 compatible version of PhonePlus III also work in landscape mode.
Sorry for repeatedly asking you these questions but you know I sort of don't like installing and uninstalling software pn my phone and therefore as far as possible I try to confirm what I want.
Hope to receive your kind response on this.
Regards
Sorry to say that PhonePlus will not support Landscape mode.
And no problem with bothering me, this is what the forum is all about.
We can use that to better the product for everyone's benefit.
So keep the feedback coming...
very very recommended! fast load, integrated perfectly into the wm5 dialers and skins, i have not found any bug yet.. try it guys!
After choosing the contact and tapping 'sms' to send a message..the messaging app loads very slowly. Not sure whether its some software conflict or EZDial has problems calling up the internal messaging app.
Btw..i'm using ipaq rw6828.

Nice skin!
You are welcomed to send me the skin and recieve a free license!
Regarding the slow opening of messaging application I think this is a problem of WM5.
What I have done is that I use PocketPlus as my task manager. Within pocketplus I have set the messaging application amongst the exception list so that it does not close when I press the X button but only minimizes. While this takes up some RAM but on the other hand the messaging application responds almost immediately.
Hope this helps

2. Install Default_IM_WM5.CAB (to device, not to Storage; for WM5 only; if u already have other program which can set the default Input Method, skip this step & use that program instead)
3. Extract the files in ip_AC_Skin.zip to your PDA's "\My Documents"
4. Goto the "Option" of HappyTappingKeyboard (Start -> Setting -> Input)
- select "\My Documents\ip_AC_QVGA_P.bmp" for the ";Portrait Bitmap"

5. Start -> Program -> IMSelector
- select "Happy Tapping Keyboard" as the default Input Method
6. Soft reset your PDA
7. Enjoy!

- Default_IM_WM5 is a modified version of Default_SIP_WM5 (but can't remember where it's from)

Does this support autocompletion (or autocorrection as the iPhone keyboard software)? If so, in which languages?
The software itself does not support autocompletion, but this functionality is already provided by windows (you get a list with words matching the letters you've typed so far).
I'm also using Happy Tapping Keyboard & have a selection of skins including the iphone. Good application, easy to type with a finger due to it being larger than standard.
Now uploaded to site:
This is fantastic, thanks for your post. So much bigger and easier to use than the default.
Nice !!
Thank you
Where does it come from ? WM6 ?
Finally. A workaround to not being able to skin the WM5 keyboard. Still wish I could skin the default keyboard, tho - but there's never a decert ROM for a device that comes with WM5 by default...
Can someone upload it to 4shared.com, please. Rapidshare is suck.
Thank you!
Just installed it and tested it. Great piece of software. Good bye Resco Keyboard. This make it easier if you want to using your thumb plus it looks great, just like the i-phone. I hope they don't go shut this down too.
Can not get it to load, see it in drop down list, but refuses to activate? Do i need the IM_WM5.CAB? can change between all other choices and Resco Keyboard. Would like to try for one handed smsing. Any help appreciated.

Try a soft reset, a friend had the same problem, he tracked it down to a conflict with another keyboard.

Hi there!
How to make it my default keyboard. I tried input options bus since it is in other language i can only see little squares. It works if i choose it from the sip menu down the screen, but after soft reset i loose it as default.
Tks!
Don't even try! I did it using sk tools and it ended with a hard reset...
accents?
Anyone knows how to use accents on that keyboard? (or french keyboard)

Touch Cruise touch-keyboard layout

Hi everybody,
I got my Touch Cruise and I think it's a great device. The "new" touch-keyboard is neat, but I would like to use a different layout like on this screenshot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I think this layout is by default in the system, because it started it when I was asked to type my WLAN password. After I did it, this layout "disappeared" and I can't get it to show up again.
So where is the magical switch to use this layout?
Thanks in advance.
I wanted to use the SIP you mention above as well, but was unable to find a way to select it. I'm not sure why it's not an option in the HTC rom, but it is disappointing.
This is not a solution to your question, but maybe something useful anyway:
Have you looked into PocketCM Keyboard? it is a great option and I love it when used with the iPhone skin developed by 2manyphones.
If you decide to try this, you will need to install sipchange by sleuth225 which will allow you to keep PocketCM as your default SIP even after a soft reset.
Hope this helps - and if you figure out how to get the orginal HTC qwerty, let us know!
I have fallen for CooTek's TouchPal Pro. You can use it in predictive text mode or precise entry. It also has a boat load of useful features like input strings (ie. www.<site>.com), a resizeable input panel, and many others.
I have used Resco Keyboard Pro (V3) and PocketCM (with iPhone skin). TouchPal pro is by far the best and most polished solution (IMHO).
This layout appears when you enter passwords or URL's etc, but yes, don't think you can select it as a main SIP even with a sip changer.
I don't like it as a normal keyboard anywys, you have to press the stupid symbol button to get a period.
Hi,
I´m using the PocketCM Keyboard from here , which is close to perfect.
You really might want to take a look at that, especially with the available Touch-skin.
edit: btw the ContactManager itself is very good too.
oh, and hello to everyone..
Thanks for all the replies, I'll look around.
Cheers.
Touch Cruise Keyboard
Hi there, i tested the Touch Cruise aka Xda Orbit 2 today.
I love this keyboard from the Cruise and wanna get it for my HTC Touch.
Is there a .cab, i can get, please?
Thx a lot!
i absolutely hate the touch cruise's SIP with teh XT9 crap
that thing is the devil reincarnated i swear
i have never actually seen the one in the screen shot at the beginning of this post tho..weird
i'm gonna try touch pal, thanks for the suggestion...btw hi everyone im new here too i just bought a touch cruise last week..upgraded from an htc apache
It must be possible to use this layout as a standard. But I don't know how. But I think it should be possible by editing the registry.
Has anyone a clue how to do this?

This look very good: http://www.mobiletextinput.com/Fr/SIP/SlideIT_fr.php
and this pretty good too : http://www.mobiletextinput.com/Fr/SIP/ThumbKey_fr.php

I'm using PocketCM, which is ok. Think I will try some of the other ones to see if they're any better. Some ppl swear by them on here. It's just annoying when you have Opera 9.5 and the stock HTC keyboards don't work. So you try and select the pocketCM keyboard but just pulling up the input changer menu takes like 5 secs (see the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375260 post by another user). then when the menu finally shows up and I select pocketCM and it brings up the crappy default windows qwerty keyboard. i have no idea why it does that. sometimes i'll get lucky and it will actually show the pocketCM keyboard. and if I do get the pocketCM keyboard, then that one leaves a space between every character. it's all very annoying and confusing as you can see. either way I've never seen the keyboard in the first screenshot.

Download link please?
The forum link above is unusable for me, as I only speak English. So a download link, perhaps from a file hosting site, would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit:
Download link is here. This is WWE ROM.
Only had a quick play, but it is looking good (on Elf). Will post back when I have had a chance to test properly.
how much ram uses this rom at first boot?
excuse my bad english please
hi man r u using m2d in this rom
On Elf at first boot:
Storage = 29.04MB
Program = 17.93MB
There is no M2D, but it does have the Microsoft home screen (Titanium?).
It seems to be a very usable ROM, and in my playing I have not had any messages about low memory.
I have found a couple of bugs however:
- WiFi does not seem to work at all (for me at least). With the Elf not being 3G/HSDPA, then WiFi is a must. Any chance of a fix?
- The RegEditor shortcut launches a task manager, not a registry editor. Can this be fixed?
- WinRar is in Turkish. How can I change this to English? After all this is a WWE ROM.
- The alarms only seem to work if the device is in the lock screen. Is this a bug? Or is this some strange "by design" thing from Microsoft?
- Also with the alarm, I have it set to repeat. But it leaves a long period of time (over 20 seconds) between repeats, meaning you do not get a continuous sound. This is not likely to wake anyone. Perhaps this can be resolved by using a longer sound?
- The HTC Task Manager Quick Menu is inaccessible from the home screen as it is overlayed by the title bar clock. I have seen this problem in other WM6.5 (23xxx) builds. Is it possible to disable the title bar clock on the home page? It is not necessary as we have the time as part of Titanium. Would disabling it then make the Task Manager accessible?
Other than that all seems really good.
There are a couple of other things (not bugs) that are worth noting:
- There is only one keyboard available. This is a full qwerty. It is a very good qwerty, but a phonepad & compact qwerty would have been good. I haven't tried installing a 3rd party keyboard, but I have read that these don't always work too well with the larger softkey area at the bottom of the screen.
- The dialer is the standard WM one, not the nice HTC one. But I would imagine that the HTC dialer would take too much memory away? So not a real big deal.
thanks for the info SilentBob! i'll try the next release

I'm getting text messages normally, but when I press the button to send nothing happens. Calls are ok. The wireless does not work either.

Ok, the "send" button when writing a new text doesn't work for me either. So I'm not quite sure what I did to send when testing. I can confirm that the indicated method of long click in a blank area does bring up a context menu with the send option. Not ideal however. Any chance of the send button being fixed?
I was expecting the linked "wifi reg.cab" file to fix the wifi issue. It doesn't. Installed & soft reset, but still no wifi. However, after installing this cab, I did then have further soft keyboard options. But my joy was short lived, as these do not work. If I select one of the new options, the application hangs showing a portion of the today screen where the keyboard should be. There is no input panel available at all until after resetting the device, when it goes back to the full qwerty keyboard. Cab now un-installed.
I have to be a bit hard on this.
