Prophet Speaker Crashed - General Topics

I dont know what happend suddenly the speaker phone stopped working when I Was on speaker phone mode. I restarted the phone and tried all different kinds of ****. Finally I popped open the back camera cover and I could see the speaker. I was playing something on my Windows media and I could not hear anything. The moment I touuched the speaker with the stylus it started playing loudly but the moment I pull the stylus back it stops working. Can some one please explain me what is the problem with my speakers. Do I need to replace them ? if yes then where can I get them replaced in United states.

Yes mate, I had the same problem. I have a HTC Charmer and my speaker died while using tomtom. I openned and discovered the same thing, that touching the speaker causes it to respond again and dies again. Its basically the speaker "moved" too much for its own good and the wire carrying signal to its coil got damaged/broken.
While you could temporarily fix it by trying to glue the broken wire, it may not do any good. And can't solder it as the wire is stuck on the speaker cone surface which is plastic. For a few days mine worked by placing a flexible peice of plastic in such a way that it constantly applied very light pressure on the place where the wire was broken, and the contact was maintained, but obviously such a solution is short lived.
At present I am also looking for where to buy a spare speaker from, but can't help you in this regard as am in UK.
Hope this helps in some way.

Happened to my Prophet. It's currently away for a warranty repair.
Seems like a very common problem.

No sound from speaker after upgrading Rom !!

Hallo,
I upgraded my MDA to version 1.12 from Qtek, all works well, but I don't hear the person I call or answer. If I hold the phone (green) button for 2 seconds it switches to the backspeaker and than I can hear the person talk.
Does anybody know how to fix this !!! Help
Try inserting a headphone plug and remove it, this will prolly fix your issue.
can you tell me how to upgrade ?
I already download the mkBigStorage112.nb1 file

No, I plugged in a headphone and pulled out, but still no sound from the front speaker. Rearspeaker and BT headphone works well.
Anybody?
I noticed that the front speaker works when I have no sd card inserted, when I insert the memorycard again I have no sound from the front speaker.
Well by testing if its a software problem or mechanical it looks like it is mechanical, but is it?
Strange ??? Anybody
You would need to do a hard reset and see if the problem persists with no additional programs installed. Backup first though.
Yes, I did all I can do, but the problem is still there. I guess that the SD slot makes conntection with the microfoon or the front unit.
Oke, I screwd my MDA open and I looked how I had to put it back to gether again. When I opend it, I swa that this was not a brtand new MDA but I guess it has been repaired a few times, because I found pices of the seal every where. When I opend the back unit from the front unit my frontspeaker just fell out. So I guess that they forgett to screw this tinny PCB on. After I put it all together again, he works fine. The sound is now comming from the front speaker with or without the SD card inside.
Oke, for all of you don't do this at home unless you are prepared to buy a new one.
colderon,
I also am having the same problem and think it could be a "loose wire" or cruddy slip in the manufacturing. I will attempt the same. Was it just the two screws on the back at the bottom to start, then as it comes apart more of them. Thanks for your help!
Todd
Yes, their are two screws on the back pcb. Then their is a small sqaure connector at one site this one can be taken off, no the large connector with their cellotape. Oke now comes the tricky part, their is an other mall pcb, about 2 cm by 1/2 cm. This one has also an connector, but the small pcb/unit is glued to the SD card holder with dubble sided tape. You have to be very carefull an try first getting something between this small pcb and the sd card holder. If you pull the back pcb from the front pcb the connector will brake off and you have to buy an new small pcb. This small pcb is the unit that connects the front speaker and contains the signal leds (poweled, Bluetooth).
If have no clue what this small unit will cost me, but my is also broken. Somehow it works, but the signal leds don't lite.
Ik hope this will help you
I'm in the states and had the same problem, I ended up taking it apart myself and finding 2 things, 1 the speaker was bad, this is the same speaker as the n-gage or nokia 6610 either is available on e-bay. the other was the actual board that carries the audio has a plug on one end and the plug had a lousy solder job, for this you will have to find a local electronics repair shop, and hope they can solder as well as the guy here, since it all is surface mount technology. over all the soldering cost me $20 and the speaker cost me $10
Same problem, no sound this morning.
I remove the SD card, sound came back.
I put the Sd, sound still there.
But when I change the volume, no more sound...
What a #~{#[# bug
I tried to open my Jam 2 times and I quit... I'm afreaid to broke something... Where are the old times that everything had a screw and was so easy to unassemble???

Samsung captivate speaker problem - return for new one?

Okay, so my samsung captivate speaker is pretty much broken and doesn't work properly anymore. I've had it for about a few weeks and now the speaker just doesn't make any more sounds. Music will not come out etc....i can get sound to work for a little bit but its only temporary and goes back to not working, i just hit the speaker part and it randomly starts to work again but it doesn't stay like that so im wondering if i can return it.
I bought it off craigslist so i don't have the receipt or anything like that, i also don't have the box since its at a friends house. Im wondering if i can go to an AT&T store and exchange it for a new one no questions asked without the receipt or box and the fact that i didn't buy it from at&t personally but it is originally from an at&t store (obv). Or will i have to do the other dreaded task of sending it back to samsung and be phoneless.
I doubt AT&T would accept it without anything at all, is it really that hard to get your box at your friends house? But besides that unless you can prove you're within your 30 days they wont do anything unless you have insurance. In your case I'd contact Samsung directly and they can probably run the serial, obviously you're still within a year lol.
okay, damn thats a shame.....i have to go through samsung. Im pretty sure its past the 30 days already too.
I had speaker problems when I slipped my Captivate into a really clear case made by Incipio. I believe that was the culprit. I also had to hit the phone against my palm to get the speaker to work again. I remove the phone from the case and played an entire album via speaker. No problem there. I returned the case and bought a Body Glove skin. Better.
Yea......the speaker is somewhat working fine now after playing youtube and some songs again......will see how it holds up.
I might just not send it back and go through all the hassle, i think it got messed up when i dropped it, shame cuz it was the only time i dropped it, maybe something got a little loose.
I havn't had the speaker not work on me for a good 6 hours so far will keep monitoring it.
me too. i bought it on ebay. So i dont know if at&t will fix it or replace it.
My external speaker stopped working for the first time today also. I read over on an AT&T forum that if you press on the speaker it will get it working again. I just tried it and now my phone works again. I had to press a little below the speaker.
Just another notch in the belt for what a crap product Samsung made. I've never dropped my phone or anything. Others are having this problem so it's a build quality issue or something. The connection with the speaker must be weak.
so i guess there's no other way to fix the problem except getting a new or refurb one?
Sound not working over loud speaker
Unplugged my cappy this morning and headed to work. All has been very quite...too quite, then realize that my cappy isn't making any noise
*panic mode* no media sound, ringtones, etc...
Read on the at&t forum that you can press firmly on the speaker and it 'fixes' the problem. WHAT!!!....that's a crappy cappy fix, anyway, what can you do... Speaker is working again, for how long? I don't know.
Same here, dropped my phone a couple of times. External speaker starts acting weird, connection keeps coming and going. Tapping fixes the problem only temporarily, it goes back to being dead only after a couple of seconds / minutes. seriously crappy. Everything else works fine though, headphone conenction / telephone speaker seems alright.

Yeap. Pressing down on the speaker did the trick. It sorta fixed the problem. Cheers man.
As mentioned, if you can press down or slap the back of the phone and sound begins to work again, you have a shorting speaker or perhaps a poorly contacting ribbon cable. You can open the phone up and re-seat this in hopes it will help. It uses a ribbon cable design with a lock snap to press it against the contacts. I'd advise gently lifting the contacts with a small needle or tweezers then re-seating and retesting.
If you do that let me know and please report your results. You can also replace the speaker as well. I have an extra I don't currently need.
I purchased my Captivate on eBay just after Christmas, turned out the camera had a problem in the lens so I told them it was randomly rebooting. They allowed me to go exchange the phone since it was under warranty (had insurance but didnt use it) and since then, I have replaced it 2 more times.
See if you can talk to them on the phone and find out if your still covered, luckily I have a warranty exchange store near by, so it was real easy for me to exchange.
edit: forgot to mention I never had a receipt, I told them I got it from a third party seller. Since its an ATT phone, they should still accept the warranty
Press on the speaker if you have no sound!
Don't mean to dig up a dead horse but if you are having external sound issues I can verify pressing on the speaker does fix it.
This I discovered after 2 nandroid restores and a 4 reflashes with clean wipes. Plus removing several apps I had just installed.
Now I get to reinstall everything and update my ROM again.
It pays to search before panicking.

Its funny you said this because I bought my girlfriend a captivate a couple months ago off eBay. The phone itself is fine last month the speaker also went out. It would only work if she tapped on the back of the phone. Well we called AT&T and told them, all they did was check the imei and see when it it was bought. It was only 11 months so its a good thing it failed now and not later. After a couple hours of troubleshooting with the good folks at AT&T and doing a master reset even though I told them that had nothing to do. They then transfered me over to the warranty department where a spent a couple more hours doing the same troubleshooting I did as with the AT&T reps. At last they said they would send me a new captivate. You should call the worst they can say is no.

For those of you who do not have warranty or insurance, there is a fix for this.
I just got done with re assembling the phone after a fix I performed. It is real easy to do.
Things you need:
-A screwdriver (whatever the size is when you open the back cover, the four screws you see, that size)
-A small flat head screwdriver if you have one (not necessary but would help)
-Patience and some common sense.
Ok, to start off follow these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740022 to open the first 6 screws and then how to pop open the screen from the bezel(this is when a flat head screwdriver would be useful).
(go just to the step till the fifth picture in that thread, no need to go beyond that opening things!)
Now, you would see a screw on the left of the speaker. Now, other threads said that by loosening that screw the speaker would work. But, I did that and still had issues so I opened the phone like 4 times in total before I found out what it was. Now, notice that the speaker unit has a cable (orange colored) running into the main phone chip. It is connected there through which it functions. When you open that above mentioned thread to open the phone there is a picture showing to remove the that belt from the board. Follow that instructions, flip that tiny black clip up to remove the belt. In some cases there might be a blue sticker kind of thing on the belt, just take off that sticker. The problem seems that the belt is loosing contact which doesn't allow the speaker to get the sound input to put out sound through the speaker. So, take off the belt by flipping that switch and re insert it out there. Try to push it in properly or enough to align a white line on the belt and the chip. There is a white line to guide us there. That line should be totally straight when the belt is inserted appropriately. And now, flip that clip down and lock it. If you have loosened the screw left to the speaker, put it back in in normal force not excessive(no need to be more gentle here). You cannot leave it loose because it makes the whole unit move when it is loose eventually pulling off the belt from its place which causes the sound cut outs. The whole trick is to get the belt right in its place. So, make sure it is tight but not extra tight after you have managed to get the belt right. Put everything back together and now when you screw the last 6 screws again, the one in the top speaker corner affects the speaker unit, so don't push it too hard in. Just normal screwing. The rest should be done properly with normal force. This should solve it. I figured this out after opening the phone 4 times. And now playing songs since the past 6 hours non stop and its back in action again!
For all this, i did put in the battery and start the phone when I had opened it and tried messing around and figured out what was killing the sound, so this should be the ultimate solution to it. There is nothing else that can be affecting it now.
Most people must had faced this because they dropped their phones before which made the belt to move and hence the loose contacts inside. If not then, there are high chances that you bought it from someone or somewhere who had dropped it before!
Well that's it! Also, don't freak out in having to open the phone. You should just go to the step till the fifth picture. Which is very easily achievable!
Go, have fun with your WORKING speakers now!
More Useful speaker fixes
I am on my second captivate, I got a refurb since the speaker died on my first one.
My second speaker just started dying.
Before I had even read this thread all the way to the end I decided to tear apart my phone to get to the speaker to see if there was something loose that i could re-solder or reconnect.
Have you ever dropped a magnet in the dirt and picked it up and it was cover in little bits of iron?
I discovered that when I peeled the little metal cover off the speaker that it was covered in little tiny bits of metal that were stuck to the magnetic face of the speaker. I don't know how much this affects the speaker function but I cleaned it off and plugged the speaker back in and put it together and it works great.
I took a small flat head screwdriver that was magnetized and carefully scraped off the little bits of metal wiped it all clean. you wouldn't believe how much crap gets through that little tiny screen. I was able to peel of the little metal cover with my fingernail. It was very easy to take off, you could even remove the speaker cover without disassembling the the back cover.
I am not certain if my cleaning fix will solve the problem since I had removed the cable and shoved it all the way back in, but it might help make the speaker louder.
Anyways there's my first post. Hope it helps you all.

Yes this solve the problem for the speaker no phone punch
I put a small piece of thick tape under the battery cover near the speaker and this keeps pressure on the speaker.

[Q] is my transformer speaker wire loose?

i found similar threads and posts but none with this specific problem. i have a b90 from bb, 12/11/11. yesterday out of no where, i lost sound. long story short after reboots and wipes, realized when i rotate or ecspecially shake my tf101, my speaker cut on, then off. when i press hard on the bezel in the middle, they come on briefly. sometimes they stay on.
any insight or answers to solve this so i dont have to do the rma process would be greatly appreciated. after purchase from bb for 299 ( cheaper build to reduce price maybe) i became an asus fan. now, i am really dissapointed in quality since other then this, my tablet is physically flawless and hasnt been dropped or damaged.
edit: both speakers do work when they decide to come on, and heaphones work. thnx in advance
I have cut out and removed my right speaker because it was dead, waiting on an order from asusparts.eu for a replacement speaker
It wasn't a loose wire, it was the connection to the actual cone that was bad, pressing in the middle of the speaker brought it to life for the first time since I bought it, but nothing I could do to fix it, they are more or less sealed and too tiny to fix
so you believe its the speakers? they both seem to work, they just aren't outputting sound until I shake the tablet, push, or sometimes face down they work
Why not just rma it?

Couldn't say for sure, but it sounds like something you could fix yourself if shaking it brings it back on, if you don't mind losing warrantly opening it, but bear in mind, my speaker replacement has already taken 2 weeks and they are not expecting parts until the end of february, so RMA might be quicker, depends if you can put up being without it for a while
honestly i dont want to be without my tf. silly huh. its weird though i just discovered that like i mentioned, headphones work fine, however after i unplug the headphones the speakers immedfiately output sound and continue to do so until i change to another app. e.g.- while watching netflix, then back out and open a game with sound, it doesnt output untilni plug and unplug headphones. this seems to be the best way to get speakers to play.
they donteven seem to cut out with movement afterbthe headphones are unplugged. only when exiting out of current app, then attemptingbtonopen a new one. what is the issuer here?
im lost ast this point. rma aside, this has me curious now
id probally be willing to do it myself, if i knew exactly what i was replacing or repairing or rigging. i purchased a kit with the neccesary t5 torx, and phillips to remove bezel.
how tight should the screws be on the bottom of the tf. i dont want to overtighten. got some petty hope that tightening the screws will help. more sillyness im sure.....
this stinks though cvuz this just happened. you know? thnx in advance.
also lookimg at bluetooth speaker as an alternative
Speakers working after you remove the headphones but stopping again once you launch another app ?
You tried a factory reset in-case its a software / firmware bug ?
Screws just need nipping up, not tightened too much or you`ll either thread the holes or snap the head of the screw
Just RMA it, man.

HEllo? ....Hello? no ear peice sound

After I changed my screen on my XT1032 the ear piece doenst work. I replaced it with this but still no joy. The pins for the speaker at installed with the long pins facing the top half of the phone. Speaker phone works fine using speaker phone that how im taking call at the moment.
The connection where the speaker connect on the motherboard looks so basic its hard to imagine that got damaged.
What else can I try?
Thanks bros

The problem that the coil gets separated very easy from the rest of the earpiece.
It's very easy to replace and the orientation doesn't matter, there are pins both up and down, which are interconnected.
All I can think of is that you either got a defective replacement or you damaged it somehow.
You can test it by connecting it to some audio source at very low volume and see if it works at all.

Water Damaged OPO, Speaker Issues

Well I dropped my OPO into a creek in about 2 feet of water. After being submerged for about 15 minutes I thought it was toast. I put it in the ol' bag of rice for a few days and to my absolute amazement it booted right up and works flawlessly except for one issue.
The loudspeakers are so quiet at full volume you can barely hear them. Earpiece speaker works fine. I popped the back off and took the speaker assembly out and removed one of the two speakers. It looks fine and there is no moisture in it. If I set it on the board contacts at full volume I can barely hear it play.
Do you think a new pair of speakers would fix the issue? Can I test the board outputs to see if its putting out enough juice to run the speakers? Any thoughts or input would greatly be appreciated!
Hey - same happened to me! Except much less water! I put my OPO in a damp pocket after heavy rain (!) and it seemed to be a goner. 2 days later after putting it in a bowl of rice it works fine now, phone speaker and microphone work, only thing not working is the lower/music speakers. Headphones work fine too. Any easy way to replace/fix this? Heard a loud crackling/static noise coming from the speakers after the initial water exposure if that means anything.
I'm another one looking for a solution to this issue.
Anyone found one? Thinking about trying to replace the speakers, but not wanting to faff with that if that isn't the problem.
Word of advice to everyone. Don't drop your phone in the bath!!!
I am in the same situation as well, sent it for speaker replacement and the repair guy showed that even replacing the speaker module will result in low volume output. Nothing can be done unless replacing the motherboard maybe?
I sent it to a local shop, not the service centre by the way.

This happened to me as well. I was biking and crashed, falling into an overflowing ditch, completely drenching my pocket and my OPO inside.
I immediately took it home (my laptop got drenched too ;w; that one's at Asus being fixed) and left it in rice for the rest of the day, only to find that the speaker played, just barely audible at full volume, and the microphone and ear piece worked perfectly fine. I bought replacement speakers shortly afterward and replaced them, but, like kaz93 said, didn't do anything, it was still really quiet. It must be on the logic board or something.
I'm probably just gonna get the Google Pixel when it comes out XD
Speakers are the most sensitive part of this phone. I also had to replace mine after watering the device. You can afford them cheap for just a few bucks on aliexpress and they work perfectly
