Hi,
Firstly: HAPPY NEW YEAR !!
After some searching and trail by error testing I have sucesfuly upgrade my German T-Mobile MDA with the latest Jam rom from the I-mate website.
ROM version 1.03.00 WWE
Radio version 1.01.00
ExtROM version 1.03.141 WWE
I am not resposible for any damages !!! It should work perfectly !!
First Step:
You need to download the latest ROM (English version!!!).
http://www.clubimate.com/Support/ma_cdlsku2_arb_10300_141_10100_ship.exe
After download run it.
When you see a screen with "welcome to device software update utility", do nothing and go to your TEMP directory of windows. I you don't know where to look do a search for this file name: MaUpgradeUt.exe
When you have located the directory that hold this file copy the complete contents, 8 files. To a directory on your PC eg: c:\jam
Then cancel/close the "welcome to device software update utility"
Second step:
You need to find out the Operator code and language of you device.
If you have a MDA Compact from germany, the Operator code is: T-MOB101
If you have a German language ROM your code is: GER
If you have a UK ROM the Language code is: WWE
Third Step:
Download xda3nbftool.exe, and put it in the same directory as the 8 ROM files.
Fourth Step:
Build a batch file, name it change.bat or whatever you like in the directory where you put ROM files.
Paste the following in it:
------------------------------- paste the data below ------------------------
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -so T-MOB101 -sl WWE ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -so T-MOB101 -sl WWE nk.nba
xda3nbftool -so T-MOB101 -sl WWE radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nba ms_.nbf 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
del *.nba
--------------------- paste the data above --------------------
This data is for a MDA Compact from T-mobile, with a UK language.
If you have a German Language change the WWE to GER in the file.
Fifth Step:
Go to a Command Promt and change to the directory you have places all the files in. Then run your batch file. It give's some errors maybe about a password but ignore those, it works !
Sixth step:
Run the MaUpgradeUt.exe program in the directory, it should start the UPGRADE. If not then you have not changed the language or operator code sucsesfully.
Last step:
If you have reset your device after the upgrade, be sure to skid the Extended ROM install. Install the apps you need manualy from the EXT-Rom. Or you will end up with some arabic nonsense.
Some tips:
If you want to find out your Operator Code and Language of you device:
In the directory you should have a file called: GetDeviceData.exe copy this file to your device. On the device run it, it looks like it does not work but that is fine! Now go with you PC to your windows directory on your device. You should find a file called DeviceData.txt there. Copy it to your PC and open it with notepad.
You should see something like this:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PM10A 0 A WWE E T-MOB101
1.01.00 0 0 1.03.141 1.00.10 WWE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The PM10A is the Device code
The WWE stands for English language, if you have a different language it hould say so. German would be GER.
The T-MOB101 is the Operator code.
If you have different info there use it for the batch file. Language an operator code.
Good luck everybody !!! And I will try to provide more info if needed !
thanks for the info mate.... but did you notice any change in the quality of the sound of the earphone after changing to imate jam's rom??
Hi,
I have ever used the earphone... So no idea if it changed...
I use a Bluetooth carkit and a Bluespoon AX...
Cheers
Thanks pinoo it worked for my compact! Now the question is will we be able to make our own extended ROM?
katsj
have you noticed any difference in sound quality moving from tmobile WWE to imate??
Thank you
The sound was a bit better with T-Mobile's ROM but I know that imate is about to release a new rom fixing the sound quality and even improving the compatibility of the sandisk WiFi+256MB RAM SD card.
More than that at a friend's JAM who had problems with high distortion of the sound and the sound was coming and go we manage to fix it by opening his JAM and bending the speaker's contact legs so the force of the contacts of the speaker against the motherboard solved the coming and go of the speaker and fixed the distorion! It is a hardware issue but not a serious one! I guess we will be able to fix it easily in the nearest service center!
katsj, could you please post picture and steps in how to do that........ we have no service centers over here....
I currently have a MDA with these ROM versions (and Imate ext ROM):
ROM 1.01.00 WWE
Radio 1.00.10
ExtROM 1.03.141 WWE
What would be de benefits in upgrading to this new Imate ROM?
My MDA works fine now, also I use a Sandisk 256MB+Wifi card without problems.
can't worked

Sorry but I would never do it again at least not before JAM 6 will be released!
It was a nightmare! Not so hard but if you don't know what to do and you are living to be scared of breaking a part of the case then you would never do it again! Next time that someone else shows up brave enough to hand me his JAM for that kind of surgery I will make sure that I take some pictures!
What are the improvements of this ROM compared to T-Mobile's WWE? I noticed that i-mate's is 1.01.00 while imate's is 1.03.00. Are the changes documented anywhere?
Please, prompt me where to copy a file - xda3nbftool
Hi Pinooo
Please, prompt me where to copy a file - xda3nbftool. The file which is at you, at copying is designated by a name - xda3nbftool_307.
Hi,
Just rename it... so delte the _307 part....
Cheers
Same question here: I have extROM: 1.01.124: what would the 1.03 bring new?
Thanks a lot,
Belgo

Hello,
i'm new here and this is my first pocket pc (the imate jam)
does anybody know how to unlock it?
greetings,
pim
Great!
Yeah! It worked for me too (from GER to WWE). Thanks!!!!
Will it work the same way when IMate releases the update? Please let us know in this forum.
Thanks again!
Hi,
Good to hear my work is apreciated...
My gues is that when I-mate relaeses a new update you can just run the file and it will work.... because ou already changed the info. But We will have to wait for a update to be sure....
I am waiting for the new update with the Sandisk Wifi fix...
Cheers,
Remco
Is this method working to turn a German MDA to English, or its an English upgrade?

Hey. I can't get this step to work.
Maupgradeut.exe is not recognisedas an internal or external command...
I have the German version and I have renamed the batch file.
i always tried to flash my rom using the new upgrade tool - when using old header and old tool, upgrade works perfectly.
You just have to edit the change.bat for your own demands. At the state you download it, it is configured to change header into T-Mobile WWE version.
Code:
run change.bat first, then MaUpgradeUt.exe
André
I have the dutch T-mobile MDA Compact.
Will this patch work on it?
And with the upgrade do i get Swedish dialpad/keyboard?
Want to keep everything english if possible.
should work; guess you dont even have to edit the change.bat before excecuting.
you'll get a qtek dialer (which is only slightly different from the windows original since it uses a (nice looking) skin - the dialer itself is the same as the original)
if you dont want to have this stuff install you can skip installation via reset and install the things you wish manually.
André
Well the skin is no problem, i choose my own skins after instal.
But what worries me is that T9 is swedish after this upgrade?
Swedish words are useless for me, i want them english.

Did you tried it by yourself? Your change.bat is not complete, you forgot to convert nbf to nba. That's why change.bat do nothing.
Then, as I already wrote several days ago - I did the same what you are suggesting - old tool with new files. It crashed my device totally, I cannot do anything to repair. So, be careful
Thanks!!!!
I have edited change.bat with imate operator (CDL_404) and flashed successfully!!!! Work perfectly!
Thank you again!
@landau:
of course i tried it by myself. you may have noticed that the nba-files are already in the archive so they dont need to be decoded from any nbf files (actually that was the problem: xda3nbftool cant decrypt these new format nbf-files).
so just run change.bat and flash it!
@justifier:
t9 offers several languages, english, french, german, ... unfortunately no dutch. if you want dutch, just take the t9.cab out of your own ext rom and install it manually. after the upgrade you wont find any swedish things on your mda luckily.

no wonder I've got Country ID error....,
can you tell us after you have upload the actual rar files.. ??
Thanks in advance
Thanks quappo, it worked perfectly.
By the way, the UK version of the T-mob MDA Compact has id T-MOB005, not T-MOB101, so you have to alter that in change.bat to get it to work. For others here who're as clueless as me: to find your operator ID, all you have to do is:
1) copy getdevicedata.exe to your Magician and run it
2) look at \windows\devicedata.txt, it starts with something like: PM10A 0 A WWE E T-MOB005. Whatever you have instead of the T-MOB005 is your operator code, stick that in change.bat instead.
3) run change.bat
4) run the update!
archive is up now.
if new problems occur, please post here. we would have to secure the archive via password then :-(

See my above post.
U copy getdevicedata.exe to magician, doesn't mather wich map.
Click on this file with stylus.
Now browse to /windows/devicedata.txt ON YOUR DESKTOP PC and copy it to your DESKTOP.
Now you can open it with word or notepad and you will see that the code is much longer than what you see on your magician.
You gotta browse to the right in notepad to see the rest.
Good luck.
hey folks,
Does anyone know if anyone has extracted the radio from the latest Cingular 2125 (Faraday) ROM (version 2.0.13.0, from the HTCamerica website)?
I like the qtek 2.0.9.0 ROM, but I am running on Cingular network, and it would be nice to try that radio version. I'd rather not use the ROM, because I'd have to fool with it to reactivate wifi and a whole lot of other modifications.
thanks!
Do you have the download address? Please show me the address, I can extract the radio for you.
wow! thank you very much, here is the link...

instructions...
Hey,
in a previous post/different thread, sp3dev posted the following instructions to extract the radio ROM from a full update, and reinsert the file into an updating package to install...I have never done anything of this nature, but I have used extracted ROMs to update a smartphone. The tools are all posted on xda-developers, and spv-developers, but I am just not sure how to use any of them.
Instructions:
so, goto spv-developers, find info how to setup perl and typhoonnbfdecode.pl. then, unpack the update with winrar, open nk.nbf with typhoonnbftools 0.4, select gsm, select extract decrypted, then save as gsm.n_d
then, use
typhoonnbfdecode.pl -r gsm=gsm.n_d -t -c radio.nbf. then, open radio.nbf with nbf tools and remove cdl___02 and save nbf into the folder with romupdate.exe enterbootloader.exe ruugetinfo.exe ruuresource.dll. run romupdate.exe and flash.
and i advise you to set supercid.
Here are more instructions for setting up perl and typhoonnbfdecode:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RomTools/typhoonnbfdecode.pl
Can you post the extracted radio rom Plz...
hardcore technie help needed
hey, ok I got the tools working. I have extracted radio roms from a couple of old qtek ROM updates. however, I am having problems with the cingular 2.0.13.0 ROM. I can extract the GSM component using typhoonnbftools, when I try to convert using typhoonnbfdecode.pl, the resulting file is empty. Any ideas?
Sorry I cant give you an answer to your question but I take advantage of your post to ask you one:
when I try to run the Perl script, it gives me runtime error when it tries to load the DES dll:
"R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectily"
Did you had any similar problems to run the tool ?
Hello,
I did get a similar error, though I can't remember the exact syntax. If you are using Activeperl, add the following PPM repository, and install all the packages there. I think that should clear up this particular error...
http://www.soulcage.net/ppds/ppds.58/
I don't know, though...maybe this repository is bad? I have absolutely no experience with perl or programming, so I don't know how to tell. It might be worth trying to find a different repository with the crypt/des package?
Thanks. The repo link solved my problem !

Hey, were you able to create a radio.nbf from the cingular ROM? Even after isntalling those perl packages, the resulting radio.nbf file was empty . If you've got it, would you mind please posting it?
Hello All,
Please post the radio rom if any one has extracted... Thanks...
can someone please provide me with the NETWORK WIZARD from NBD 8.3 ROM in CAB format?? its the only one i have found that has settings for my service provider (WaridTel Pakistan)...thanks in advance
anyone?.....
http://files-upload.com/files/590437/wlan.rar
have a nice day
unable to find the file sir can anyone post the htc network wizard from NBD rom as i am in pakistan and only its settings have pakistan operators in it. thanksss
Copy this provision.zip
I downloaded NBD 8.3 and dumped the ROM. I checked the provision.zip that is used be the Network Wizard and found that this version has the Pakistan settings in it.
All you need to do is copy this version of 'provision.zip' to the root windows folder on your device replacing the existing provision.zip file. Give it a try.
Hope it works out for you.
Ok,
So I got the Universal yesterday and spent all day trying to get BBConnect to run on it and after searching for days and days I was able to piece things together to get it to work. So here are the links to the tools I used and as far as I can recall the steps I took.
ROM: DFT WM6.1 19174
http://www.darkforcesteam.com/showthread.php?t=133
HTC64 Tools (to convert the nbf to a fat file)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=25416&d=1133971744
HEX Editor
http://www.rs.e-technik.tu-darmstadt.de/applets/frhed-v1.1.zip
BBConnect software
http://rapidshare.com/files/45075798/BBConnect_WM6_Professional_BB_4.0.0.90.exe.html
HTC NetworkWizard cab file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=80495&d=1207858578
Ok so here is what I did
Right click the ROM file "DFT.U.V1.WWE.rar" and extract this will put the files in a folder "Outputfile" containing the following files:
EnterBL.exe
GetDeviceData.exe
ROMUpgradeUt.exe
RUU.dll
UI.dll
nk.nbf
Next extract the HTC64 Tools folder this will allow you to launch:
HTC64 Extended ROM Tool.exe
Double click it and choose decode
point to the nbf file and choose extract
This will creat the following files in the "OutputFile" folder:
nk.fat
nk.prj
Now install the hex editor and launch it, then click Open to open the "fat" file
along the top of the address bar is a set of binoculars click on that type "HTC" and check the Unicode box change the letters Univer to Hermes the remaining letters sal change to ...
save the file
Use HTC64 tools and encode the file, then update your universal
Run the network wizard cab file, reboot, configure for your provider
Install the registry editor and go to the following location
HKLM/System/Version/AKU change it to .0.3.1 (yes that is a . at the begining)
Reboot
Ok now your ready to install BBConnect
I was able to connect and have been connected for about 5 hours now.
i was actually trying this out a couple days back with Tomal (Ranju) latest rom.
i got the client to startup but couldn't connect.
figured it's a problem with my account, which i gotta check with the network provider.
but can you explain why you had to edit the ROM to change the Universal to Hermes.. and the AKU version to 0.3.1?
does the BBConnect software check for these and refuse to work if they're not matching?
I read on a post that it had to do with the model of device that was sent to authenticate with the BB servers, the ROM edit from the information I gathered sends the device type as a HTC-Hermes which is an authorized BBConnect device.......
What's the chance of getting the BB connect software running on Tomal's 7.6 ROM by performing the same search-and-replace as you did? Or does it have to be the ROM you used?
