I've searched and searched but haven't managed to turn up a program that allows my Prophet to receive Infra-Red and perform actions.
I mainly want to use it while my Prophet is mounted in my car. I have a small infra-red remote that i would like to use to select tracks and start apps etc - possibly even answer calls etc.
All I can find is apps to turn a WM5 device *into* a remote. I just want it to be a receiver.
Anyone know of such an app - surely one exists.

I use a bluetooth keyboard for the functions you mention whilst driving. There are various kinds and types but one can be programmed for different functions according to the required applications. The advantage of bluetooth is that the IR port doesn't need to be pointed towards the remote control.. I do not know of any applications that execute functions depending on the buttons pressed.
do you use any software in particular for macros or executing commands?

Ok, I really didnt know exactly what to put for the title of this because its a pretty strange request.
A little backbrief: I have a CarPC setup with a 7" touchscreen in my dash, a computer in the trunk, a bluetooth module, a microphone, runs through the car speakers, and running a front end called RoadRunner.
Basically what I'm looking for is:
1) The ability to call out and answer phone calls through the CarPC (full computer). - Using the RoadRunner program there are some interupts built in so that it will automatically stop the music and switch to a screen that has the phone "skin", but I'm not sure what it all entails to make that portion work yet.
2) It must connect through bluetooth
3) The ability to read through the phone's address book and/or store the phonebook in the CarPC.
4) Speach activation would be nice, but not a 100% must have necessarily
5) The ability to read/write text messages would also be nice, but not required

But the problem with that particular skin is that there is no support for WM devices, that is unless you have another piece of software called phonecontrol.net, but that software is now discontinued, so there's nothing for WM devices.
Now, I'm not asking someone on here to build something for me necessarily (even though that would be nice) but I am not sure what phone protocols there are to connect the bluetooth and use it, or if they are specific to the bluetooth adapters (bluesoiel, microsoft stack, etc) or if its all in the phone, and whatnot. I've got a good coding background, so its possible I can develop something, or modify something to work, but since there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum I figured someone on here might have some know how and ideas.

Is there any way to automate the steps to go into the Bluetooth control panel and activating one of my Bluetooth devices to use for wireless stereo?
I have a Scosche BT box in my car so I can play audio through the car stereo. But every time I want to use it I have to switch to the BT panel, use the stylus to press and hold on the Scosche BT icon until the menu pops up then select Set as wireless stereo.
I believe the reason this does not work automatically is that I have multiple BT devices and only one of them will ever work automatically otherwise all your devices would be trying to get hold of the phones output.
Anyone have ideas on how to make this an easier process? Preferably one that would allow me to use Voice Command to activate it? An app specifically for this purpose or perhaps a macro recording app that hopefully would allow an icon for a specific set of commands to run rather than having to open the app then execute the macro?

I have a serious problem with accessing the usb-port with my unrooted htc desire.
I just want to connect a switch/circuit breaker to my cellphone via usb. And than I want to be able to react on the event if somebody pressed the switch. It's only this little event that I wan't to react on.
I searched the web and found two ways to achieve my goal:
1.) Get a Bluetooth device and interact with that.
2.) Root the Desire and make/solder a usb-to-serial cable
But seriously? A Bluetooth device just to recognize if somebody pressed a hardware button? And I want to share this project so if possible I would relinquish the need of a rooted device.
So now, after hours of web-searching and reading references, I ask you, the awesome xda-developers-community: Is there any easy way to access the usb-port from within my Android-App or the Android-Scripting-Engine?
Every hint is appreciated.

It seems like you would need a bit more than root and a USB-to-Serial cable.
Maybe if you only need one hardware switch you could use the mic button input, or play a sound to the mic input? Or use a magnet and the magnetic sensors (electromagnet, or even a neodym magnet glued to your hardware button).

I already read about the usb-host-capabilites, but I thought if I only want to detect on little signal I would not need the whole usb-host stuff.
Thanks for the Idea with the magnetic thing, but if I really need another device to realize my switch I will stay with bluetooth.
/edit: I thought off buying a littel&cheap bluetooth mouse and interact on the click. Would it be possible? Can I actually connect a bluetooth mouse to my android mobile phone?
I don't think a Bluetooth mouse would work, at least not out of the box. Most Android devices don't fully support the Bluetooth HID or SPP profiles. It's missing software, not hardware. But I saw that the Dell Streak apparently supports keyboards and mice.
BlueInput only supports keyboards, it seems. It doesn't need root. So apparently it should be possible to do the same for mice, but I didn't find anybody doing it yet. But maybe you can ask the BlueInput people whether mice would also work, just without a visible pointer (because Android doesn't have a visible mouse pointer). That wouldn't matter to you, but it would be useless for normal mouse users, so perhaps they just don't advertize that BlueInput can talk to mice, too.
Or maybe you can find a cheap headset which is supported by Android. The answer button should work.

Yeah I think you are right again. I only thought of the volume buttons on a headset therefore I suggested a mouse.
Is there list of compatible bluetooth headset? Because I already have one a Jabra BT2015 which is not supported (at least I can't get it working).

found it very useful for swapping bluetooth headphones between devices WITHOUT turning off Bluetooth entirely or going into the settings menu.
Example Use Case:
I have one Stereo Bluetooth headset with mic (two profiles - phone and A2DP audio)
I have one Android Phone and one Android Tablet.
Phone Profile is always connected to the Android Phone, but the A2DP audio changes depending on which device you want to listen to music from.
Normally, if you want to listen to audio from the Tablet when your headset's A2DP profile is connected to the phone, you'd have to first go to the settings menu of the phone, and disconnect the A2DP, leaving Phone Profile connected. Then go to the settings menu on your tablet and connect the A2DP only.
Then you'd have to do the opposite if you want to listen to audio from the Phone again.
Takes a long time.
With Bluetooth Pair, you can specifically connect or disconnect to a specific device and specific profile (phone / a2dp) by widgets.
So you won't have to turn off the bluetooth completely on one device just to allow your headset to connect another device. Nor do you need to go into settings anymore.
1.) Just tap on the A2DP device specific widget on the phone to disconnect, the A2DP Profile from the phone
2.) go to the Tablet, and tap on the A2DP device specific widget to connect the A2DP profile of the headset to the Tablet
Two taps!
Would you mind sharing a code snippet on how you achieve this? I've been working on a little program that I intend to use around the house and this is the missing piece that I can't figure out. Basically, I have some NFC tags spread around the house and a receiver app that triggers various actions. One of them enables bluetooth on my device (if off), turns on my home audio receiver (over telnet), connects to the receiver's A2DP device (this is the missing piece), and launches a music app.
I've seen examples where this works using an AIDL method, but from what I've gathered this no longer works under Android 4.2. Does your app work on 4.2? Any hints you can provide?

Oh, OK. I just assumed this was your app.
After reading the Play Store description more carefully, I don't think this app actually does what I'm trying to do (programmatically establish an A2DP connection). It appears this app enables / disables certain profiles but the actual connection is still handled by the OS.
As far as the app I'm making, I was intending it to just be something for personal use. I'm planning on keeping it very lightweight and tailored specifically to my needs. For it to be used by anyone else they would have to have the same brand of A/V receiver as me (Pioneer) that supports the same telnet commands. Most of the rest of the functionality of the app can be duplicated by using some of the existing NFC apps like NFC Task Launcher. If I ever develop it into something interesting that could be used by a wider audience I probably will post it on XDA for feedback though.

I'm looking for a way to automate a number of steps I make in different apps to achieve a desired state. So, to give an example, if you are familiar with the harmony one remote which can switch different devices on to different modes when you click a macro button such as 'watch a film' it will turn your AV amp on to the right input, Tv to correct source and media player on etc (all done via infrared - i'm not using infrared at all) . I'm looking for something that can do that with apps ! In my case I have Chrome Cast Audio connected to various amps around my house and have groups set up in Google home to identify which room the cast is in and if I desire I can play simultaneously to multiple rooms, it works great, like SONOS but in stereo. My problem Is some of the amps are old so not SMART, in this case I have smart plugs I can turn on and the amp will always go to the correct input, one of my amps is a decent AV amp which has an app from which I can turn it on, select the source etc. I want to create a macro that will, at a single click turn all the amps on via the WIFI Sockets app (Jinvoo) and by the AV amp app (Yamaha AV controller) and select the correct source.
I've been playing with AutoInput and Tasker but they dont do the job (or at least I cant get them to) . I can record clicks in Autoinput under 'Manage Input Actions' however when I replay them in Tasker nothing actually happens. I've watched some beginners guide tutorials and i'm not sure i'm using the right tools, does anyone here have any experience with this? Can you advise?
