XDA Dead Pool - General Topics

I'm the happy owner of a Blue Angel. However, with posts of up to a week ago still showing on the first page of Forum Index -> Blue Angel, I can't help wondering how long it will be before Blue Angel will no longer need a niche of its own here. My curiosity about what others here may think naturally led me to the idea of an XDA dead pool.
Some of the 15 phone-types currently listed in the forum index have already been discontinued by their manufacturers. Which is next?
Apache
Atom
Prophet
Universal
Wizard
Magician
Alpine
Himalaya
Andes
Blue Angel
Wallaby
StarTrek
Typhoon
Hurricane
Tornado
To keep our dead pool as sound as possible, please place only one bet in this thread. Thanks to all who may be interested in this meritless idea.

I'm going to say...the Wizard.

Hey guys, just joined up with this forum. I just purchased the ATT 8525 today and hopefully it will be here in a few days. Is there anything that i should know more about this phone, besides specs and stuff? Anything that i should do when i get the phone? Any advice will be good.
Thanks
Welcome to xda! There is a wealth of information here for your phone. Before your next post:
1. Read the sticky at the top of the Hermes section regarding posting (trust me its for your own good)
2. Get VERY familiar with this section of the site:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
If I were you I would spend some serious time reading through the forums before you decide to do anything to your phone. It will definitiely help you in the long run. Good Luck!
hi and welcome
i'm not as familiar with the unit you have but i think it's also known as wizard....guyz, please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong here... but in any case, scroll down the main forum page and you should see the section dedicated to the wizard. from there you can browse around and check the extremely useful list of topics for the device.
cheers
No..see my signature. The 8525 is a Hermes. I have the same phone.
norwstman30, welcome to xda-devs!!!
please, please, please, please, search and read! everything you will run into IS on this forum and posting a question of what to do when your 8525 (hermes) freezes or drops calls.. etc will annoy the rest of us. The wiki has all you need to know, welcome to owning a great device!
i own the imate jasjam which is the same as the 8525 except its black and has a camera on the front. I'm on at&t aswell in austin, texas... hook 'em horns!
Hey, just joined, purchased the Softbank X01HT, and the person previously installed the english pack. Will definately read through the wiki first.
Just wanted to say hi!

Suggetion of new section for Samsung i780

Hi guys
as you all know , samsung i780 is one of the most powerful pda with a slick design , it grabs your attention even if you hate samsung company, its really a special pda
so my suggestion is why we dont make a separate thread for this device, a thread that has sub threads like general , upgrading and roms hacking, accessories and FAQ, like the one for tytn II or touch curise
so what all of you think ?
thank and best regards,

Seems that this phone is selling very well, at least in europe.
A dedicated room makes absolutely sense.
I would
also love that ! Just stopped using my Tytn II and is using my new i780 as my primary device - the Tytn II is in the drawer. But I love XDA so I would love to have a i780 section event though it aint an HTC phone
thank guys
lets hope we get separate section for samsung i780
would be cool but i gues all owner of this phone think so
I completely agree, finding infor on the i780 is pretty difficult and it would make things easier to make a special topic for it. I have been using the i780 for two weeks now.

Agree with everyone !!! Since i780 is the first 320 X 320 device. New section will help everyone to discuss in future...........
I'm agree too
This phone is one of the best on WM...
Thank you all guys (dariog78, harrisoon and sebastientoussaint)
it seems there are alot of people who are interested on this device ,therefore a new section is really needed for this device.
I jst traded in my HTC Hermes for a new Samsung i780 and loving it. It would be nice to be able to share all the tips and tricks with other people.
Thanks!
seems like i780 is a very popular phone..
I agree, the I780 must have it's own home. I have a herald, but when I got my hands on this baby, wow nothing like it. We should start to encourage developers for this new kind of screen.
While I have no doubt that the Samsung i780 is a good phone I must say that it should NOT get its own section here.
On the Main Page you will see this....

This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.

So Unless I missed something in my search, The Samsung device is not made by HTC. I'm all for there being a Developers Forum for a Samsung Device. If I had some web hosting space left I'd offer to host it. However this is an HTC site and I think it should be kept that way.

but as you can see in the devices section, there are sections for HP ipaq and Palm Treo 750, and from my knowlege HP ipaq and palm treo 750 are not htc devices therefore we dont see any problem to have a section for samsung i780 since the hp ipaq and palm treo 750 had, also the samsung i780 is a special case because the resolution of its display is 320*320 which means it will has its own programs and games, thats why it is important to have a section specially for this device
@AbdullahT
HTC is the manufacturer of the Treo 750 and several HP iPaq smartphones. So it's normal that they have their place on the XDA-forum.
@JimmyMcGee
While I agree with you that this forum is all about developing for HTC manufactured devices I still think the i780 should have it's own place here on this forum. First of all, this site has been created in order to port Linux to the XDA. That aspect got somewhere sort of lost, since this forum talks more about porting the latest Windows Mobile versions to older devices and writing Windows Mobile software to enhance the experience with Windows Mobile devices then porting Linux to HTC devices. So this forum has evolved and I can't see why it couldn't evolve into a forum that also talks about other then HTC manufactured smartphones.
Personally I would welcome a dedicated i780 section. It would make finding information about tweaking the i780 a lot more easier. The main problem is, that there are other popular smartphones around, like the LG KS20 which also deserve their own section.
In my humble opinion I think the current structure of this forum doesn't allow anymore for adding more smartphones. So I think it would be a wise idea to rethink the current structure. I would think more in terms of activities then in terms of different devices.
go for it!

WM6.5 Rom for Kaiser

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/21/...lled-shown-off-on-crotchety-old-ht/#continued
Read this article and was wondering if any of the Chefs had been successfull with a beta build.
The guy really needs to get a better camera; the video is horrible. Anyhow, i'm very curious and encouraged to start cooking for Wm6.5
Yea but where can we get a beta of 6.5 to port?
I'm actually surprised Kareem didn't close this thread, there's a very similar thread further down on the page.
Supposedly, the ROM is in the release sticky in the Blue Angel Mobile 6 forum, but it was Anryl or someone who expressed concern over if it was actually the real deal.
Let's just keep one generic WM6.5 Kaiser post alive please

The Bottom Line:
If you’re a Droid geek, this is your forum. Unlike other forums, such as Talk Android, posts don’t wait very long before they get answered. The forum is quite active, the discussion around different phones is as extensive as they get (as you can see from the list above), plus almost every phone category includes a picture of the phone so you can verify with your own eyes that you’re thinking of the same phone that others are. The moderators do a good job of posting sticky threads at the top of each category, making it easy for the noob looking for an answer to a simple question.

How far can I go with my P4350 (used to be Dopod C800)

Dear all,
After 'accidentally' upgraded my oldie but goodie Dopod C800 to WM6 (P4350) yesterday, I'm becoming more and more interested in pushing my unit to reach its performance peak
As I'm a total noob in this world, I seek your guidance to help me deciding which way to take next.
For those of you gurus who have the same device as i have, could you be so kind to recommend me the best mix for my baby
Wake up my little buddy, it's time for you to get out of the drawer and smell the fresh air
Thanks in advance!
Mods, permission to repost this in the Herald Sub-Forum
Cheers!
