I have a little MDA Vario and finding it impossible to find software to work on it, on my old MDA III its was fine but now I have this OMAP850 cpu nothing seems to be compatible.
Any ideas?

OMAP is ARM just like the one in your old device. Anything that ran there should be compatible. The only problem may be that some WM2003 apps don't work on WM5.

Well, please search. There is a lot of posts around here about these spectec wifi cards. They work pretty well, but you have to find the right driver. The wm6 driver does not seem to work well on my device, but the 2003SE or the wm5 one (I don't remember which one, give a try...) works flawlessly (even on wm6.1)

i am having no end of problems with my Spectec 820 and my himalaya XDA 2.
I got it going when i was running the stock WM 2003, but i have since updated to WM5 and now WM6 and have not been able to get it running with any of the drivers off the website.
I have used all of the drivers (WM 2003, WM5 WM6) as suggested on this site when i have had WM5 and WM6 installed with absolutely no luck.
The only glimmer of hope was that when running the WM5 driver on WM6 it came up with wifi symbol on the top of the Today screen but the device wouldnt do anything else, i couldnt get a connection, it was if it recognised there was some kind of wifi card but nothing more, no networks, no searching not a sausage.
I am very frustrated as i really want WIFI but dont want to give up on my Himalaya as even now, running WM6 i think it is a great device.
I am contemplating buying a SPectec 821 but i am worried it will not work.....
Anybody ha ve any ideas?

No but I plan to buy one, so my question before I buy it !
But since the MDA compact II is exactly the same hardware, I guess the answer is YES...I am even wondering if the Compact II advertisement saying it is a WM2005 is correct....
it aint the same hwardware, compact II has a 200mhz TI OMAP CPU, normal MDA has Intel Xscale(?) 416Mhz...

I used the old MDA COMPACT (T-Mobile Austria) with QTEK software in english, which worked much better than the original Windows/T-Mobile software.
Now I had to replace the old MDA with the MDA COMPACT II with Windows Mobile 5 T-Mobile branded.
This is complete ****! It is nothing but slow. Writing an SMS is torture, programs open in slow motion,....
Is there a QTEK version I can use instead as operating system?

exactly the same with me, it's not only that 3rd party programs work slow, also the performance of the integrated features is a large step back.
hope there will be soon an acceptable improvement

I´ve got mine since yesterday, and compared to my heavenly (a milion tx to this community!!!!) tweaked kaiser it is damn slow; can Touch flow be the cause therefore?

I have an Orange SPV M500, unlocked, which runs Windows Mobile 2003 V4. I would like to upgrade it, but first need to know if this is a branded version of some other phone, then what, if any, upgrade is possible.
Looks like it might be a Magician.
The SPV M500 is the HTC Magician, even though it has a slightly modified design. Unfortunately, the Magician cannot be upgraded beyond WM2003 [i.e. no WM5.0 or WM6.x]
