[Q] data2ext and CM7

I have tried searching the boards for this answer and couldn't exactly find what I was looking for, so....
How do I install data2ext with CM7? The directions that I could find were with AOSP and it used a different recovery image. Can I download that image onto my CM7 and install data2ext?
Also, should I be using ext2 or ext4 with CM7?
Please let me know. Thank you for your help!

I've followed AOSP data2ext instructions on his rom repo. I used the recovery he recommended, But I've flashed data2ext with CWM 3.0.2.8 and had no issues. Yes, you could flash CWM 3.0.0.5 and install data2ext. It will go well with CM7, cause I've flashed data2ext on nightlies, CM7s and AospCmod and it went all fine for me.
Well someppl use ext2 and ext4, But I use ext4 on CM7. I guess thats up to you.
But before you move on with this procedure, please make sure you READ CAREFULLY in the instructions.
Hope this help and good luck.
i use data2ext but only the ext2 version ill post the zip for it at the bottom of this post... here is how i do it......
take everything on your sdcard you dont want to lose and put it on your pc
i use rom manager so this will be instructions specifically to the recovery it provides i think is 2.5.0.7.
after putting your sd contents on your pc open rom manager and go down to partition sd card
partition it 512mb / 0swap
after partitioning reboot into recovery
connect via usb storage and put your rom,gaaps package, theme(if you use one i use dark horse), and the data2ext zip on the root of sdcard
disconnect from usb storage
wipe everything factory reset/cache/format/dalvick just as the info for installing your rom states
flash your rom
flash your gaaps
boot into the rom and get settled in wait for the sync to stop and phone is idle
reboot into recovery
*if using a theme flash it and reboot, wait for everything to be idle again and reboot into recovery. if not using a theme skip this step and proceed to the next one
flash the data2ext zip and reboot phone
once phone boots open terminal emulator and type these commands:
su
umount /sd-ext
mke2fs -m0 -b4096 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (let it run its course doesnt take long)
data2ext --enable
should tell you to reboot the phone so back out of TE and reboot
now check settings/storage and should say close to 500mb
if everything has ran fine reconnect via usb storage and put everything back on your sdcard you put on your pc
this is the method i use every time to install data2ext and has never failed
with each new flash you have to reinstall data2ext so is better to use from a fresh install of a rom or theme. remember to always backup before flashing ANYTHING
here is the zip for data2ext this is thegrammarfreaks work not mine his link is below my posted zip

@spleff Good directions. But
Actually you don't have to do a fresh install of data2ext when you want to install a new rom and keep you settings and your data. Say your running aosp's 3/26 and your running data2ext but you don't want to setup everything again. Do this.
Boot into recovery and make a nand+ext backup then reboot. Then reboot back into recovery and wipe cache & dev-cache. Then flash the new rom. Then flash the data2ext zip and reboot. Your all good. Your data/setting/apps will remain but your rom will be updated. Also if you want to do a nand restore while using data2ext do this. Boot into recovery and wipe data,cache & dev-cache. Then restore your nand. After your nand is restored then flash the data2ext zip and reboot. Your good to go. Also keep in mind its not recommend to IMO to wipe the sd-ext. It could result in bootloops and coud render your nands useless. Also you can go up to 1024 for data2ext but its not recommend to go any higher it could give major problems and system conflicts. You can find more on this in the thread that spleff posted.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always *
This will repartition your sdcard without losing anything.

Personally, I don't see any real improvement with data2ext, even though I have a script for it. I've tried it on CM7 with no issue.
Excellent Mod!

[Q] Samsung GS+ - 1st rom install

Hi guys, first post from me. I wish i could post this in the proper thread, but since i am new i am not allowed, so excuse me for the inconvenience.
I want to use custom roms to enhance my phone, i've been reading up in this forum and some video's on youtube. I've already rooted my phone before, so that part is out of the way.
Now here is my phone setup:
- Samsung Galaxy S Plus
fw= 2.3.5
baseband= I9001BOKP1
kernel= [email protected]#1
build= GINGERBREAD.BOK4
carrier= T-Mobile
- External SD Card, 486 MB
I just used the SD Card from my old Samsung phone (G-600)
The thing is, i have used Apps2SD to set apps to my SD card (the external one)
1.A: So if i am going to backup will that also be stored back to my SD after i format it?
1.B: Or is external SD card formatting not required for a fresh clean install?
The ROM i want to use is Cranium RC9
As i understand this ROM comes with a kernel as well, so..
2: should i do anything kernel related? (since it's my first time to install a ROM and all)
And finally..
3: What is the correct method for a 1st time/clean ROM installation?
If i look at the 1st post of the Cranium ROM thread, then i see install methods if you already have RC8. And the other method is for installing RC4. Please don't tell me i have to go through all the RC's to get to RC9 o_0
Thanks for at least reading this and hopefully some one can help me further on this
1.A When you backup, choose internal SD since backup has about 1GB of size if you have lots of apps. Go to feamod recovery 1.4, backup and restore then backup to internal sd card. When you finish ROM flashing restore your apps only in advanced restore.
1.B I don't think you have to format external sd, anyway you can back it up too.
2. I don't think so. The rom comes with a kernel..
3. For fresh ROM installation, Format system, data, and cache. You can also wipe dalvik cache. Then flash using ODIN or CWM, depending on the file. Reboot system and you can restore data only after going to cwm again.
You can also read fabsau's starter guide in our forum(i9001)..
In my opinion, try broodROM, comes with skyhigh kernel, ICS theme, beats audio, smoother scrolling and more..
If this helped press THANKS
Sent from my S+
Thanks this was helpful to me

formatted everything ! need help please

Hi everybody !
well i think messed up and I really need your help please
I went through recovery and I formatted every thing ( system cache data everythig ) and now , of course I can't open phone !
Is there any solution to write any rom on my phone to boot up ? please i need help !
You would need to reflash a rom. More info here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
thanks for the help but even the stock rom is deleted even if i try to access to sd card through twrp rcovery it says :can't mound sd card how can i put a zip file on my sd card that can't be read by phone ?? please help
Well if it can't mount the sdcard theres a simple solution (sorry, can't find the thread anymore with the tutorial)
Basically use something like Hasoons All in One Tool, go into fastboot and flash the stock revovery.
Then go back to the bootloader and first clear the storage, then do a factory reset (out of the bootloader menu)
Then you can flash your other recovery again and it should be able to read the sdcard.
Can you enter the bootloader? If you can, you could run a stock ruu.
I finally got my SD card to mount, now how do I put a ROM on the SD card and flash it?

[Q] help for installing custom rom

hey guys can you help me.......
i root my HTC EXPLORE .....
now i want to use custom rom...but dnt knw how to do.....
read lots of topic some one say make partition in sd card some say do dirct..
and some say make recovery 4EXT like that........i dnt get it any thing
my phone rooted now....
what my next step....
can u telll me in simple way............
Do u have cwm recovery installed ??
If yes just download the rom, put it in sd card and flash using the recovery( instructions are given for installation in the rom threads)!
Partition ur sd card if u wanna incrrase ur internal memory using recovery or minitool partition wizard from pc(google how to partition) !!
Press thanks if helped
It's better to make ext partition it's simple, get in to recovery(I assume you already have recovery), then advanced menu, there is "partition sd card", make "ext" less than 2gb and make "swap" to be 0. Everything in your sd will be deleted, so if you have something important move it to pc first.
To flash rom is easy, first get rom on your sd, then "mount"(from recovery "mount and storage") everything then wipe everything, except sd card. Then just click "install zip from sd" and....... that's it
Hello guys please let me know how to root htc explore and is there any bug after i root it. i want do it for my younger bro his phone internal memory is always full. Please help

The most simple method according to me is install rom manager flash cwm recovery
Then switch off phone
Press power + volume down
In bootloader go to recovery
Now the internal memory of explorer is very low so i recommend yo to make a sd-ext partition.
For that go to advanced-partition sd ,select the size Acording to ur sd card then swap size 0 wait till its done . This will format your sd card. then go To mounts and storage mount usb copy the rom and gapps(if required) to your sd from pc
Then go to install zip from sd choose zip and install.
You are done

[Q] How to install a custom recovery on SGH-I857??

Hi;
i am a noob in the android world and i need a help
i have a sammsung SGH-I857 with 2.2.2 android version & 2.6.332.9-perf karnel version which is rooted
I want to release the maximum possible space of internal phone memoir because it small (177MO ONLY) 89.30 MB of space it used.
I would move them to the SD card (8GB) or remove them if it's possible ,but I do not know how knowing that my phone has never been changed at the ROM or Kernel or Recovery or anything like that
I also read that before anything i should use a custom recovery and make a backup of my current set up, so in case something gets messed up, i can restore the backup and be as good as new!,then install a ROM that can do what I want if it's possible
the problem is that I can not find how I did lots of research, but I have not found those for SGH-I857
so if you could tel me how ,done please & thank you in advance

First, you need to install Mount2SD or Link2SD, it will link (replace) your apps to SDcard. You can find it Mount2SD here and then you need to partitioning your SDcard first, just follow this instruction and you also get Link2Sd from here. I guess these apps don't need custom ROM or kernel to work. But custom recovery, like CWM or TWRP is necessary needed to do full backup (Nandroid Backup) of your current stock ROM.
Well, for custom recovery you can try ROM Manager (It's free app on Play Store), it will help you to install CWM Recovery. Or you can try TWRP Manager (it's also free app on Play Store) to play with custom recovery by TWRP.
Good Luck.

That's the only solution that I know. Just have a try, coz it's fine too if you only have class 4 SDcard.
oK i will thanks
hey , i have the same phone this is what i have done to gain 2go of app memory , root it with superoneclick , partition your sd using minitool partition wizard make one partition fat32 and another linuxswap make them both primary (ps: don't use your phone to partition) then instal link2sd and mount second partition fat32 ....linuxswap partition is the second partiotion for apps.... you are done ...just every time when you install a new app go to link2sd click on the app you want to move to second partition and then click create link. that's it
ps; for sgh-i857 users i lunched a thread for a costum rom!! support it here please : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48720803

There is no current custom recovery solution for the Samsung DoubleTime (SGH-I857).
I am however trying to make this exist as well as a whole other ROM option that may allow Gingerbread to be ran on the device. So far the base of operations has been the thread in which Dardour has posted a link to above. That however seems to be broken. So here it is again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580216
Well best of a good day to you.
