Is it worth upgrading from the XDA IIi to the XDA Exec? - General Topics

Have been offered the exec as an upgrade and other phones but am wondering if it is worth it, it doesn't seem to offer a lot more than the IIi?
Your thoughts please?

Ditch O2 and get unlimited data on t-mobile. Then get an MDA Pro. Its wm5, so its a bit slower, with a lot less memory. Its however about the same size as the xda2i, but offers a wonderfull keyboard, lovely VGA screen (which makes mobile browsing much much better) and 3G data speeds, with no concern about being in wifi range.
The HTC Universal is definitely a worthy upgrade to the xda2i, but to really make it worthwhile you need cheap fast unlimited data.

Do you mean this sort of price plan
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatche...nge_plan&ppid=923&pf=Flext+++web'n'walk+plans

I'm going to wait a couple of months for the t-Mobile Vario II (HTC Hermes), just a shame the screen isn't VGA

Yes, it really provides value from your purchase. I'm feeling very American now, streaming podcasts and surfing with pictures on!
Surur

heh
the lack of wm2005 for IIi
makes many ppl think IIs or even the old II is a good upgrade from a IIi

Screen that closes, helping protect the touch area from damage when it's in a pocket.
WM5 and Persistant storage
3G
I would say upgrading from an XDA-II to a Universal was a good move.

Buy XDA IIi or wait for the VGA?

Yo. I ordered an MDA III but cancelled it after finding the XDA IIi on O2's website. The thing is, I really want a VGA pocket pc, not QVGA.
I read on a few sites that the XDA III/ MDA IV with 630 mhz cpu and VGA screen will be out in the first half of 2005? Is this info reliable?
I don't want to wait forever to buy an XDA but I don't wanna buy the IIi and find the VGA one released 2 months later
I am tempted to buy a Dell X50v and a camera phone but would really rather have it all in one package!
Please advise me
well if you do wait and then about the time it will come out
there is bound to be something even nicer out soon
maybe a UTSM pocketpc or
......
it's a matter of when your need gets bigger then your willingness to wait
That's true, but I still can't come to any decision.
Does anyone have any info on when the VGA XDA will be available?
It's just that I could get a K700i with a decent camera, and a VGA Dell x50v for the same price as an XDA IIi or IIs ! But it wouldn't all be in one unit
Wait it out but don't expect too much. Technology only gets better in the long run. This is going to be the first batch and will be open to scrutiny. Aside from this rely heavily on the reviews because usually when you buy a PPC you want to make sure it lasts for you the longest time...
Better make your pick definite...
Good luck.

What's the best phone

Hi Guys,
I recently bought a SPV M700 which unfortunately arrived not working.
At least I've found your website now, so, in your humble opinion, what's the best one to get?
I like my psp for connectivity, podcast download/playing and screen size, I also like my HP IPAQ for it's windows/office features with handwriting recognition.
Think it's a good idea to get your views before I take the plunge with another phone.
Cheers

hi,
i like my touch niki, having owned a polaris and tytn ii, this one runs smooth and has a slideout keyboard, no wifi or gps, but i can live with this as i have unlimited web bolt on, and a solar sirf iii gps bluetooth receiver
Depends on how you use it.....
The best phone is always the one in my hand.
After owning a Qtek 9100, Qtek S200, HTC Tytn and HTC Tytn II and now a Samsung SGH-i780 and I can only say that the Samsung beats the crap out of the HTCs The only drawback is there are no home brewed rom for it. But for a fast, stable, very nice looking phone filled with features - don´t look any further
Otherwise you can buy my Tytn II - I never use it anymore since getting the Samsung - it feel slow and old
How much did you want for your tnty II? What condition is it in etc.

how can you compare a smartphone to a pda? SGH-i780 is a smartphone isn't it?!
I guess I'm thinking of the 760.. I don't think the 780 is avail in U.S.
android!! or iphone =P i know people here dont like the iphone, but honestly its very light, its got a great browser, and now that the sdk came out, theres gonna be alot of programs available for it. theyre coming out with a 32gb 3g model in the next couple months, so keep an eye out.

No it is Windows Mobile 6 Pro and not smartphone.
Interesting, I do like the look of the iphone I must admit.
Have been having a look at the Hermes and Wizard phones too. Would like the Kaiser type but they seem a bit on the expensive side at the mo.

The i780 is only a tiny bit larger than the i600 but runs on steroids.
Meaning: WM6 Professional, extremely fast Marvell CPU incl. PERFECT video playback even playing large video files from a memory card, nice display quality(a bit shiny though), built-in GPS, WiFi, etc. etc. etc.
This little baby is really impressive, unfortunately it is only Tri-Band GSM(GSM 850 is missing) and Singleband UMTS/HSDPA.
I have been waiting for and just taken delivery of an i-Mate Ultimate 9502. I have put a review here
In function and aesthetics it's the best I've had (albeit that it has had to be exchanged with a hardware fault...I have chatted to other owners via the imate forums and this seems to be a one off).
Cheers
yea the 9502 is nice, but it costs wat, $900? and that still most likely wont be compatible with wm7 when (if) it does come out. I have a Hermes, and im trying to convince my sister to get me an iphone for my birthday. And the Kaiser and a bunch of others of the newer phones have the problem with the video driver. HTC has become crap lately, and alot of us are getting tired of it and jumping ship with the arrival of the iphone and the soon to be released android phones.
Hi, Mole,
Have been looking at the iphone too, keep getting told by people though that when you connect something downloads and you end up getting locked out from using other networks. I am with O2 anyway but only use a pay and go sim. From speaking to O2 they reckon you can't use the iphone with pay and go.
Cheers
Lyv
iphones can work with payg but no company supports it due to wanting more money..
i have a hermes and i love it - still waiting on recieving my memory card and gps reciever but im still enjoying tweaking n playing around
Hi, thanks guys, may look at the Hermes or perhaps give the trinity another try, must admit, it has put me off a fair bit having received on that appears to be bricked.
The iphone is nice but will leave it a year or so before I go down that route.
Cheers

Superior device ? You must be joking ! It has a superior INTERFACE i must admit, but it's very far from being the overall superior device...

In the end, it all goes down to what you intend to do with your mobile device.

Hermes or Prophet?

Hi
Im currently using HTC Prophet, its workin fine and em really pleased with M2D. Im getting a Hermes on a few bucks lesser than I bought Prophet. Im thinking of selling prophet and buying hermes.
Will this be a wise move?
Looking forward to your replies as I have to make a decision by Monday
Regards
it is individual. go to pdadb.net and check if the specifications meet your needs.
Do you want/need a keyboard?
I've been perfectly happy with my Prophet, and don't have a need for a hardware keyboard (hence I got a Diamond rather than a Raphael).
It's a personal decision, the Hermes is slightly bulkier but has a keyboard, the Prophet is smaller but has no keyboard.
I like the Hermes because of the keyboard and all the cooked rom's in the Hermes forum section. Go to the hermes forum and check some of them out...
I dont need the keyboard as im happy with SPB FullScreen keyboard.
Does Hermes' better CPU give it an edge over Prophet?
M2d isn't a complete success story on the hermes, it just doesn't have enough ram, and theres still a fair bit of memory leakage on even the best roms. If you run m2d be prepared to only run one app at a time, and restart several times a day.
hmmm
but M2d works smoothly on my Prophet
so Prophet is edging Hermes???
never had the hermes, but if it is only a bit cheaper and your really happy with your prophet, why change
ok ok ok..... lol you want to play,,, well why not get it and have two devices, twice as much fun.... you can then play and sell the one you dont want mind you, Nir36 will ask you why you need two deivces haha...
Good idea
Ill check it out tomorrow mornin

hheh, just buy asus, like p525, then.
you will throw htc away soon, after that.
it is not trendy, ok, but:
it is cheap(i can BET it is cheaper than both that are considered there), it is POWERFUL, it is just asus.
able to work in 100-720 mhz cpu range.
that machine is 2x faster than wizard while running with 206 mhz cpu.
i cannot understand how you can promote OMAP based nightmare.
btw, i NEVER had crash on it.
never ever.
memory leakage on even the best roms.

try 21014 GOOD build.
or make one, if there's NO such build for your devices....
on other hand, i never used HTC hogs, like m2d, etc, maybe this is the clue for mem leaks..
(do not flame me, plz, i just couldn't resist to write)
Thanks nothin
But Asus isnt available here (in Pakistan)
I owned a Prophet for almost two years, and a Hermes for a month or so before giving it to my sister after she lost her phone. Man, I loved my Prophet - it's a great phone and I would've kept it longer if it hadn't broken. Having used both, the Hermes only had two real advantages over the Prophet:
-3G
-Hardware keyboard
You said you don't need the keyboard, and unless I'm mistaken, they haven't yet rolled out 3G in Pakistan. So you don't really need the 3G either.
Plus, the Hermes is really bulky and considerably heavier than the Prophet, feels less solid, and generally was less fun to use.
The faster processor doesn't make as much difference as you might think, because it still has the same amount of RAM. People criticize the Prophet's processor, the TI OMAP 850, but it really does what it was designed to do: save power. A battery in the Prophet lasted much longer than in the Hermes. Plus, I overclocked my Prophet to around 240 MHz and it ran everthing I needed it to.
My advice? Save your cash for a while, then maybe get an Omnia or a Touch Diamond when they come down in price. You can't beat the Omnia when it comes to touchscreen-only devices. The Diamond is okay but I hear it has very poor battery life.
Yup 3G has not been launched here.
Im grateful to you for posting a detailed answer to my query
Btw how did u overclock it? Did overclocking reduce battery time?
you can overclock using home plus plus from here : http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_batterystatus_xda_neo_wm5_im_cs.htm#Download
be careful and step up gradually from original cpu speed to what eva you find is stable' device specific. \i find 299 is ok and pretty stable
Battery life? well depends how heavy the usage is, but on standby, well not much difference.
why are you interested in the hermes or prophet when you could get an at&t tilt for around the same price?

As timmymarsh mentioned above, you can use HomeScreen++ do overclock your Prophet. I had more reliable results with OmapClockPlus, which I highly recommend. I clocked mine to around 260 MHz, much more than that and my device tended to crash a lot. It did take more battery power, but not much, and the increased speed was worth it.

I have a question about possible trade - Tilt2 for Touch HD?

Would anyone trade a Touch HD for a Tilt 2?
I'm not looking for a trade, just wondering.

If someone offered a Tilt2 for a Touch HD it would be his or her dream come true.
There is nothing on the Touch HD that is better than the Tilt2...
The only thing that the Touch HD has compared to the Tilt2 is the damn 3.5 mm headphone jack. Are you serious about the trade? Cause your question doesn't make sense.
So of course someone would trade (give) his Touch HD for a Tilt2.
Is your sentence wrong? Because if it is then this would seem to be a more plausible question: Would anyone trade his Tilt2 for my Touch HD?
The answer would be hell no. Unless the Tilt2 was heavily used, full of scratches and has hardware/software issues, no one will want to exchange it for a Touch HD.
Well I know only diff is that the Tilt gets Att 3G, the button QWERTY, and doesn't have a 3.5mm.
I really like listening to music and I use my phone as an Mp3 player because I dont want to carry a phone and a Zune.
I want the 3.5mm headset jack and don't mind the lack of a keyboard. I was just wondering If I did get the Tilt2 if It would be crazy to try to trade it for a Touch HD.
Thing is I'd have to get a dataplan to get the Tilt 2 to trade for the HD and then I'd have a touch HD that can't use the dataplan I'd now have.
I already have the Incite which has WinMo 6.5 and a 3.5mm, So I guess I'd still use the dataplan when I have my sim in the Incite.
So The question is do I want to stick with the Incite and it's Wifi
or
Do I get a dataplan and a tilt 2 that I trade for a Touch HD and only use the dataplan when the Sim is in the Incite.
Or I do as above but give the dataplan to my brother's phone and Just have a Incite and a Touch HD both with just Wifi.
Too bad I cant get the HD2... XD Because while it's hard to decide how badly I want the Touch HD over the Incite, the only real difference is that the Touch HD has a bigger screen.
If I had the choice to get the HD2 over the Incite it'd be a no brainer. The HD has the Snapdragon, more RAM, more internal ROM, a bigger screen that is capacitive. I dont even mind it doesn't get at&t 3G.

If you don't flash your phone then you are stuck with a phone with older software. Also, the finger friendly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is probably not officially supported by HTC on your HTC Touch HD, so you probably will need to flash it on your own.
And trading a Tilt2 for that would be freaking crazy.
I'd like you to know that the HTC Touch Pro2 has the one of the best keyboard around, I mean it's better than any blackberry, better than my Nokia E90, better than any android phone so far, and better than a touch screen keyboard, of course better than Palm, etc!!!!!!!!
If anything, trade it for a Nokia N900. Though, not windows mobile, it's processor is faster than the HTC Touch HD, meaning less likely to have skippy music or delay during music playback. Furtheremore, the N900 speaker is just as good as the N95, and most people who know about phones can verify that the N95 speakers are not only very loud, but very high sound quality, and you get two speakers like on a laptop. And it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Tilt2 also has tilting screen, so you can watch videos while working on a table, which is kinda geeky but whatever.
Tilt2 also requires a data plan if you get it on ATT. So why would you pay for data plan just to use a phone that doesn't support the data plan. Isn't that stupid? And if you are going to buy a Tilt2 on eBay or something, just buy a Touch HD so you don't go through with the trade.

The HTC Touch HD does not have a snapdragon, has less RAM, and less ROM, and it is resistive.
The HTC Touch HD2 has a snapdragon, more RAM, and more ROM, and it is capacitive.
Thanks for confusing me. Next time, pay attention to the series number, and report the right number, or you will get different answers.
For the Touch HD2 yeah the swap seems plausible, if you do it now, you might get a swap, but I suggest keeping your Tilt2 unopened and 100% brand new. Do not peel any stickers or anything. If you have to get your hands on it use latex gloves, but do not peel the sticker on screen.
Next, you have to swap it with someone with a used HD2 who really abhors his HD2. But soon, the HD2 for T-Mobile will come out, and it will be impossible for you to find someone to swap an HD2 because it has become more valuable for the Americans, and they wouldn't want to swap you. Why? Well because the ones with the European Touch HD2 are going to get the American version for T-Mobile. So right now there will be people more willing to trade it for a brand new Tilt2.
Or, if you are smart, just go month to month with ATT until the T-Mobile HD2 comes out. I heard that month to month on ATT doesn't charge you more, it just means you can cancel anytime or renew a contract for a brand new phone.
But when the T-Mobile HD2 comes out, transfer your phone number to T-Mobile and sign a contract with T-Mobile for an HD2 with a data plan that you actually use.
BTW...I think that swapping it will be very hard, and what you are doing is crazy, and I knew it when you said that you "weren't looking for a trade" you were actually looking for a trade, cause obviously if someone wanted to trade you would trade.

well I'm currently on my dad's family plan so I'm not sure, plus I dont know how much the HD2 will cost even with new contract so I'm not too sure about that.
The problems with getting a contract with T-mobile is that Calls between my family and my best friend and I wouldn't be free. Plus I'd have to get the T-mobile dataplan which I dont really want especially because it's not as good at at&t's

Well the HTC Leo costs 800 dollars.
The ATT Tilt2 costs 500 dollars.
The HTC Blackstone costs 500 dollars and if you are lucky may cost around 300-400 dollars.
Tilt2 trade for Blackstone is a guarantee.
HTC Leo trade for a Tilt2 is almost impossible.
Not me, as hardware keyboard is a must.

You can try. It's not that I think it's a bad idea what you are doing, but it's that it's really hard. I wouldn't do it because the HD2 is a league higher than the Tilt2, and it's hard to get someone to trade his HD2 for the Tilt2.
to me the HD screen and integrated buttons are much more appealing while the Tilt 2 is really just the next generation of a long line of HTC phones. Now that the HD2 is out, I think the Tilt 2 has lost some luster and this wouldn't be such a one sided trade anymore. I may even consider it, lol.

galaxy s or hd2 or ???

ok so this is another help me decide post sorry but i really would like some advice from some knowledgable people. heres my situation, i currently have an iphone4 which i just bought and will be taking back(or selling) though i do like it but it is very slow on 2g slower than my kaiser 8925(tilt), i dont get 3g where i live. i am very interested in the intl version of the galaxy s, i was thinking of selling the iphone and buying the intl. galaxy s with the forward camera, led flash and flash support. BUT ive read some cons about the galaxy including the gps being crap. i know 2.2 is coming soon hopefully it will fix it.
also to complicate my situation a little more my contract is up sept. now if i keep or sell the iphone i will have a new 2 yr contract. i would love to be out of my contract so i have been thinking of buying a tmobile hd2 for my att, since i dont get 3g it doesnt really matter that it wont work on 3g plus i seen there was a way to change something in the network settings to make the hd2 much faster on 2g, dont know if that works or not.
i geuss what i want to know is how is the hd2? i havent done much research on it, just read you can run android on it, that sounds nice. how well does that work? does it fix the freezing problems that i read were so common in the beginning? how is the gps? thats very important to me! lastly what do you guys think? keep new contract and get galaxy s or be free from contract and get an hd2 for less money and wait till they fix the iphone or samsung fixes galaxy s? sorry so long, thanks guys.
I'm tired and will keep it short.

Yeah I figured wm would be slow even on the hd2 but what about with android how is it then? I really want the galaxy s but I can't deal with no gps, that's a deal breaker for me, anybody been able to make it work reliably?

@both: WM could be a bit slow but now I´m using Android Froyo on my Leo!
Can you do that on a galaxy?
Also HTC is much better design and quality
I think if you will pay less and without a contract, then the HD2 is your choice.
Just go the HD2 section here in the forum, and you'll see lots a lots of new rom to chose from.
With this handset you will have the best of both worlds (WM and AD). Remember that Windows Mobile is still a BIG player in the mobile world. There are tons of applications, not mentioned that you have a lot GPS applications to choose from.
For me WMobile it's a world that I can't live without yet, and HD2 has it all!
