Anyone know anything about the SDA II on offer with T-Mobile as far as the Co-Pilot Sat nav thing goes ?
Do you get the GPRS receiver and everything you need ?
Or is it just route planning stuff ?
Do you get a holder anyone know ?
Sorry for the multiple questions.
Cheers.

I believe that "3" in Australia is selling the TYTN2 with there version of the ROM.
Has anyone on this forum got this? Can you dump it and upload it for us?
My issue is that I cannot get TYTN 2 in the UK on "3" network to run Live Messenger. Everything else works perfectly with HSDPA too.
Anyone been successful in getting it to work on 3?
I have Australian Rom HTC TyTN II on 3 service provider.
But don't know how to dump rom then upload.
But i'm willing to help.
Hi
Are you sure it is suppose to work?
Some networks will disable instant messenger type applications or charge you a lot more in data to use them.
Maybe worth checking on if should be working on your particular package. If internet works all okay and Messenger isn't it is probably being blocked.
Regards
Phil
thanks......

If you can follow this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680, it shows you exactly how to do the dump, quite straightforward.
Thanks for doing this, much appreciated.

Hi, yes Phil, it seems to be a three specific version of Messenger as any phone bought from 3 has unlimited messenger access, whether on prepay or postpay.
My problem is that my TYTNII was bought from HTC, and so hasn't got a "3" version of the ROM. So my idea is to check out the Ozzie ROM with aview to building my own "3" ROM for the UK.
Cheers
Unfortunately Messenger isn't unlimited on the TyTN II on Three in Australia. This is the same for all WM devices on the 3 network here. So it's no special client for the 3 network by any means. Skype is though!
Backlight in VoiceMail Calls
Has anyone noticed this phone turns the backlight off when calling voicemail? I have a friend with the phone and she has tried everything with the phone settings and has had no success.
I even gave her the Modaco lock patch as the symptoms were close although not similar. As the problem is with the type of call she had no luck.
I have posted the link to the Official ROM from HTC for Three network in this thread.

I am wanting to run one of these with a PAYG sim on 3UK Network, to benefit from the faster HSDPA broadband access via the phone and via a USB lead to a laptop (using the Orbit 2 as a modem). Is this likely to work OK? Anyone already doing this right now?
Also will the Orbit 2 work well with Skype, as my orbit 1 is poor and the audio breaks up (even when connected to 4mbit wifi connection). I hope the Orbit 2 has cured this problem.
I would appreciate comments on the above. Thanks a lot. Tony
I just came back from holiday in UK. My German Orbit2 used for roaming either O2 UK Network or TMobile and 3G worked fine on both networks. Is it that, what you were asking for?
About Skype I don't know anything, sorry.
Thanks for the reply, but no not exactly what I am looking for. I want to use the Orbit 2 on 3UK, which is another network (unless 3UK uses someone elses network). The 3UK Network is a new network provider in the UK.....
I basically want to know if the Orbit2 will work on 3UK with a PAYG sim (NOT ON A CONTRACT) for HSDPA internet access and to use as a normal phone.
I currently have an Orbit 1 on Orange PAYG, but want to use HSDPA (faster internet access with the Orbit 2), I also want to be able to use Skype as well using HSDPA.
Thanks anyway for the reply.
If you don't get help here, you should call the provider and ask.
Because I wanted to use my Orbit2 with a prepaid SIM of O2 UK with mobile internet. And they said, I can only use it for making calls and texts, not for internet. (They weren't able to provide internet settings for the device if not in a contract.) So I was able to use a prepaid SIM but only for calls and texts.
Anyway, good luck.
3 uk network
I think I understand what you're asking.
3 will not assist you because the Orbit 2 is not an 'approved' phone for 3's network.
However, there is a cab file that permits you to spoof 3's network that you are using a Nokia N95 which is an approved phone.
I know it works because we did this for a work colleague that was sick of his Nokia and went and bought a touch cruise and we installed the necessary file.
He's generally happy with the result but does report the occasional lag on 3's network.
If you want to know more and find a link to the file I suggest you read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2229186
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.
Lom
Thanks a lot!!!!
It looks like you have sorted my problems... I will be getting the Orbit 2 in a couple of days and I will let you know how I get on. Thanks once again Lom.
ps. Any idea what the URL is for planet3 on the mobile???
Regards Tony
planet 3
Tony,
I'm not a 3 customer, but the thread I suggested you read claims this is the address for planet 3:

I picked up the Pro at Best Buy and am a Sprint Customer.. .
Here's my question. The Touch Pro was supposed to have an FM radio built into it. It seems that Sprint has blocked it. Does anyone know any way to get it back on? Also, can anybody tell me of a way I can tether my phone without paying the $45.00 monthly fee for phone as modem? And lastly, there is also supposed to be a way to turn HSPA on/off for faster connections. Again, that tab is convienently missing from the Sprint version. Oh and one more thing, what about changing themes like the clock?
I'm poking around for the answers but someone can help.
thanks,
Tom
Use the search feature.
I've searched and searched most of the Android forums along with the Eris forums as well but I can't find anyone who has gotten this to work. The best I could find was someone in Puerto Rico with a Eris that even with a 1x connection wasn't able to get a GPS sync.
Has anyone traveled to Europe with a CDMA Hero and been able to get a GPS lock?
Were you able to use co-pilot or something similar with offline maps to be able to navigate around?
I tested putting the phone in airplane mode and turning on GPS and using GPS Logger to see if I get a sync and I do here in the US. In the settings I only had "Use GPS satellites" checked and not "use wireless networks". This leads me to believe it should work but I have to wonder if the last sync was cached which allowed it to work in testing.
So if anyone has and real life experience with this please let me know, otherwise I may have to drag out the old Mogul with a BT GPS dongle.
Good question! I am going to Japan for 2 weeks and was wondering the same thing.
It should work I think, cause GPS is supposed to locate you anywhere. Its just the maps but google maps has the whole world.

Only thing is, Maps requires a data connection to display the maps!
You'd probably have to get a europe navigation program for android (if one exists?)

Yeah, it's called CoPilet Live Navigation Europe, but its f***ing expensive lol

Better pleasure me at the same time as navigating for that price

There is a hacked GMaps that works outside the USA...
I'm starting to think no one has any real world experience with this. I have a feeling my upcoming travel I will end up being a guinea pig.

Wouldn't he still need data to use it? Europe doesn't use our CDMA and he wouldn't have signal.
I found a navigation app that doesn't need an interenet connection. It relies on OpenStreetMap so I am not sure how good that data is in Europe
http://www.andnav.org/
I also found this app which lets you download an area while you have an internet connection
http://bigplanetmaps.wordpress.com/
but it seems buggy.
There is also this one but it doesn't look like it has a navigation option
http://www.mapdroyd.com/
All the notable gps navigation apps that have mappacks cost $50 or more.
Another problem is that your phone uses the cell network as a "cheat" to get your initial location. So whenever you boot up a GPS nav app without cell towers it is going to take several minutes to get your location so just be aware it will take awhile to get your location. That fact is true for any GPS unit you start for the first time. This is why the newer units will ask for the city you are in so it can try to get a lock faster.
I was in Europe earlier this month and none of the pictures I took with the phone had any of the GPS data in it.
Hope your results are different.

lol wow I don't even remember asking that last night ?? what a dumb question haha
I think a good way to test if it will work is to do a complete wipe and as soon as the phone boots throw it in airplane mode. Then disable the network location by celltower. Disable Mobile network. Take it out of airplane mode and activate only the GPS(not the mobile network location... make sure that is off before you come out of airplane mode)
Then put one of those program on your phone (I am liking andnav) and see if it finds your location after several minutes.
You need to wipe it so your phone never gets your current location. This will be a similar situation to when you go overseas.
The big question here is does the Hero need that initial location from the towers or will it do like other GPS units and search until it find the location(which can take many minutes!)
I just tried that andnav2 and it properly won't work for you.
Even if you download the mappacks you will still need to cache and area you are visiting while you have a data connection. Then you can't plan routes there unless you have a data connection. You can however pre-load routes and then don't need a data connection but you have to pre-plan stuff.
I am sorry to say but I think your best bet is to get a dedicated unit. The paid apps for the android might do the job for you if you want to save on how many electronics you carry around but they are so expensive that I say by then just buy a separate unit.
If you have or want to buy a TomTom then I can tell you how to get maps for your areas you are visiting but you will need to PM me. Not only am I not allowed to post but that would be way off topic since it has nothing to do with the Hero. I took a TomTom One when I went to Germany a couple months ago and it worked like a charm.
Just bumping this in case anyone has any further insight or has tried this.
I still planning on trying it myself. I'll have the old mogul with a bluetooth gps dongle as a backup.
Actually here is a question. Has anyone gotten a bluetooth gps dongle to work with their phones. I know the last time I was in europe my mogul would not pick up a gps signal with the internal chip but as soon as I fired up the bluetooth everything was good.

Yep, I'm in Japan right now. As soon as I took my phone out of airplane mode I got a roaming notification for $1.99/minute. No thanks! I disabled mobile network and have just been using the camera and music functions.
I'm posting this from my father-in-law's computer. He lives in a small town outside of Tokyo and I haven't found a wifi hotspot yet. I'm going in to Tokyo tomorrow so I will try to find a free one somewhere and maybe download some maps.
Earlier today I tried getting a GPS lock w/google maps and it seems like it found my location (no map, of course) but now it says "your location is temporarily unavailable". Maybe the initial lock was cached data? I may try the wipe/airplane mode method that centron posted.
BTW, I have seen ads for WIMAX here. Hopefully next time I'm here I'll have the EVO.
Based on my experience traveling around Europe with my Sprint Mogul you will need to have a CDMA signal even if your phone has a dedicated GPS chip. Even TomTom wouldn't work without it. Granted this is a different phone running WM6, but I believe the result will be the same.
Please write us back when you test it out across the pond and let us know.
I'll try to remember in the am. I'm in the UK right now. I tried the other day, but was having issues getting a dhcp addresses from the wifi ....
Hello,
I live in Europe and received verizon samsung s3 sch-i535 as gift from USA. Its a nice phone but the GPS isnt working - i tried tightening screws, using various gps applications but still e.g. GPS Essential sees 0 satellites. I only get a lock on using wi-fi but In my everyday usage I cant always relay on that and need satellites.
The question is if the problems stems from malfunctioning hardware or it could be something caused by the fact that im using a branded us phone in europe? (there is a permanent notification that sim card is from unknown source)
Would changing rom to non-branded help? or should I just seek to fix hardware? ( if I cant do that myself I dont know if it wouldnt be too expensive compared to phone price to let specialist do that)
Thanks in advance for advices.
