Browsers list now in wiki - General Topics

As the list of browsers for PPC and Smartphones is increasing, I thought it would be of convenience to provide a list of well-known browsers in the Wiki. Feel free to add more browsers to it and fix any incorrect information.

Modern Nomads publishes decent RSS reader roundup!

Unfortunately (not counting in my articles & roundups), there are very few comparison chart-based, full roundups on Windows Mobile-related subjects. As we all know "no application exists in void" (that is, without comparable alternatives) and comparisons should be made between (preferably all) competing apps in order to help the reader to choose the one that best fits her or his needs, I really welcome all kinds of articles that do compare all the available existing solutions for a given problem.
Enterprise mobility-centric Windows Mobile site Modern Nomads, who, in the past, have also published some of my articles, have just come out with a VERY nice RSS reader comparison. It's available here and is highly recommended.

Thank you for the link. I have been using SPB insight for some time now. Not seen many articles on rss readers. The article provides an excellent comparison of most available readers.

No embedded PDFs - An Android shortcoming?

I've tried several browsers and all have the same limitation: The inability to present embedded PDF documents on a web page.
Mind you that I am not talking about links to PDFs (Dolphin has an add-on that allows for direct download of a PDF from a web page link), I mean a PDF "object" already embedded in the page.
As far as I am concerned, if there's a technical impossibility then this is a serious Android shortcoming, one that rivals the ever-so-much multi-propagated iOS limitation to display Flash content.
What is your verdict, programming "gurus", is it a technical impossibility or just something no one has yet set their minds into?
...My company rosters are displayed like that and, at the present, when accessing from my Galaxy, all I get is a blank field where the generated roster should be, on the web page.
(...and so on...)

UC Browser open API to Android Developers

UC Browser unveils open add-on platform for Android
UCWeb, a leading provider of mobile internet software and services, has just launched the 9.2 version of UC Browser for Android, unveiling an open add-on platform to achieve an advanced personalized browsing experience. With the announcement the company plans to draw upon its user base of 400 million users and work with app developers to develop this open add-on platform
With this 9.2 version, UC Browser provides an open add-on platform that allows users to customize the functions of their browsers. Add-ons can be added or removed as you please. The first group of individual add-ons can be seen on the panel. Four of them have been made especially to meet the needs of a large amount of users. Their features are as follow:
Facebook photo uploader: This add-on shares your photos to Facebook much more easily, and allows you to upload multiple photos at once. An added benefit to this add-on is that it can turn on the function of Facebook push notifications, so you don’t miss any message from your friends.
Save web pages as PDF: To cater to a growing need for saving high quality mobile web pages, UC Browser has created an add-on that allows you to save webpages as PDF files to better preserve their content and allow for easier file transferring. These files can be quickly accessed through the browser’s Download Management system.
File Unzip: Helps you open RAR or ZIP files on your phone. They can be extracted with the ‘Unzip’ add-on.
Webpage Translator: Taking advantage of the Google Translate and Bing system, this add-on supports more than 70 languages, allowing you to break through almost all the language barriers you need! This add-on supports both whole page translation and individual word translation.
News for developers:
The add-on platform is expected to be officially open to third party developers soon. This opening aims to encourage more third party developers to create a wide array of customized feature add-ons for UC Browser. With a user base of over 400 million users, the add-on platform offers the opportunity for each of these users to enjoy a more personalized mobile browsing experience catering to each of their specific needs.
The add-on platform enables a bi-direction communication between UC Browser and the Android system’s services. In this environment, data sharing is much easier, and the UC Browser API has been standardized, making it more accessible to third party developers via SDK. Programs created by developers can be used in all operating scenarios of UC Browser.
The platform was developed on the basis of feedback of users, and research on users’s favorites. For example, they did a survey to capture users’ favorite behaviors on mobile browser includes SNS and news reading, and that was the insight behind releasing the Facebook Photo Uploader and Webpage Translator. The spokesperson for UC Browser says they get much feedback everyday from Facebook, customer service systems and email. There are periodic surveys also done to know more about users’ favorites from time to time. The browser is currently free and they do not have any plans to charge for the service.

Koa11y 2.0.0

Koa11y is a desktop app which scans any specific web page for accessibility issues.
The program looks for a wide range of problems: missing image Alt attributes, missing titles, colour contrast issues, lengthy ALTs, poorly designed forms, and anything else that doesn't play nicely with accessibility software and APIs.
Koa11y is aimed at professionals, not the casual user. The reports are comprehensive and detailed, organising any issues into three categories: Errors (fix now), Warnings (take a look), and Notices (suggestions). Take a look at a sample report here.
While there's a lot of web analysis going on here, the program itself is very simple. At a minimum, you might just enter a URL, specify an output folder and click Run. An HTML report file is produced within seconds.
If HTML doesn't suit your needs, the program can save reports in CSV, JSON, XML and Markdown.
Experts can also validate the page using several standards. WCAG2AA is the default; WCAG2A is a little more lenient, WCAG2AAA a little more strict; and Section 508 is a separate US government standard.
Thread Closed.
Thanks
