SPV M1000 lcd display woes!!!!!! - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Ive been searching for a replacement lcd for my m1000 (smashed). Mobilefun.co.uk claims that they have one which fits both the xdaII and the m1000. From experience( and tinkering ) I know that the xdaII lcd has a moulded plastic connector on the end of the lcd ribbon, but the m1000 doesnt have this moulded plastic connector, instead it just has a flat ribbon end which fits into the main phone pcb.... If anybody knows of a compatible lcd (from another pda ) or a second hand one available would be appreciated and paid of course...
Thanks in anticipation
Wayne

BEWARE / SCAM WARNING:
Just a bit of information for 'would be' punters chating with this guy about PDA/ XDA LCD modules, displays or screens. We now him well. His mobile/cell no is +86 13510068915, but he speaks little english. His main business is counterfeit (copy) microsoft software. He has been dabbling in the PDA LCD market for about a year.He has since received a lifetime ban from eBay and PayPal from buyer compliants. and suspicous activity. As you may know that does not happen easily! He now touts his for buyers from forums, but it is not him you are talking to, only someone who translates for him. So have a think about his cheap prices before sending money to China via Western Union, or to his personal bank account.

Spare parts?

Does anyone know a place to get spare parts for the XDA II (not likely) or does someone have a broken XDA II they are selling parts off of?
I somehow managed to crack part of the casing of my I-mate around my power switch. Well tonight it finally broke off and I am devistated. (ok well.. pretty upset at least)
If anyone has a spare... I am looking for a replacement black piece (antenna cover) of the casing. Would pay generously for one.
I'm looking for a spare casing...
Last friday I dropped my MDA2 and the case now has a small dent near the Bluetooth LED and a small scratch on the opposite corner and I want to replace it as soon as possible!
Anybody knows where to get replacements?
Is the case metal or plastic?
Thanks in advance...
Rayan
I may have XDA 2 Spares!
I am currently battling to get my XDA 2 repaired under warranty by o2 in the UK..
If i lose: I will have an xda 2 worth of parts (minus the mainboard) less than six months old immaculate apart from the board and its connector.
so case is scratch free, screens perfect etc...
Failing that if anyone has an busted xda 2 with a working mainboard please mail me...
parts
Matt,
How did you get on with O2, I'm looking to get all the parts except the main board as I've got one of them.

I lost! No repair, no warranty, 6 weeks and no service!
I have come up with another solution for my broken xda connector.
The device still functions but i cant connect to my laptop/docking station, so im going to buy a bluetooth card and spare batt, keep the spare batt on charge using the docking station and use bluetooth to sync with laptop...
spare batt = £15
bluetooth card = £20
my total = 35
O2's = £185 a mear £20 cheaper than a brand new XDAII !!!
AND THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME £17.50 to send the bloody thing back without having lifted a finger to repair the device! Until i went ballistic in the store in front of a dozen customers, and i do mean ballistic a bit digruntled wont work you have to loose it in front of as many customers as possible to force them to back down and return your property.
I will never buy new from O2 again, and as soon as the contract hits 12 months they are history bollox to them. The warranty is not worth the paper its written on, the shop service is less than i would expect from cowboys r us, save yourselves time and pain buy second hand theres still no warranty but its cheaper by far..
p.s. for those who are bound to ask, No mention of any charges including postage are/were made at the point of handing my phone over or at any time until 17.50 was demanded for its return.
@ Matt Ryan
my XDA 2 connector snapped from the pbc
ill tell you how to fix.....
get hold of an ipaq 38xx or 39xx, SPV 1, or spv2 or xda 1 or xda2 board and desolder the connector off and put a new one on
i got hold of a spv1 for less then £30 and ive stripped the board and sending it to my mate who deals in small eloctronics reapir hes charging me £15 to hot air rework the connector off the spv and put it onto the XDA2 pbc
meaning all repaired and stronger then before
gaz
did you not sign an a-novo repair sheet. It states clearly on the reverse side of this that is your device is beyond economical repair, or if you refuse a quote, you will be charge £17.50.
nope i didnt sign a-novo contract/ job sheet
I took the phone to an o2 shop and signed THIER repair sheet, nothing on reverse nothing refering to charge for returning device if not repaired
Nothing anywhere, nada...

DCONNEX DC-230 Bluetooth GPS

After looking for a wired GPS (just because of pricing) I found (&bought) this DCONNEX DC-230 Bluetooth GPS.
They sell for around 80 euros (ex 28 euros shipping).
It very complete:
BT GPS (charge/data-connector/ on-off switch / external antenna connector and three leds to check operation)
Charging cable (USB)
In-car charger (12-24V)
Mains charger (100-240V), US style
Mains adapters (three, but useless for me)
CD with manual
From the manual I found out this BT GPS is in fact a Rebadged Holux GR-230!!! This makes it even better.
Only drawback is that the case looks a bit cheap (well; it is cheap so what) and the connectors are not covered like they are with the Holux.
I have one too.. works great.
I would recommend it.
May I ask where you bought the unit and how much you paid for it? Dconnex is a Singapore firm and the local pricing is way above the 80 euros mentioned above. Go figure! Thanks for the information.
I picked mine up on Ebay, I brought it using EUR's as the auctions in other currencies had a reserve.
All up including deleivery I paid $149au which is about $87eur
A bargin I think.
I bought mine on eBay too: EUR 78 (EUR 28 for shipping/insurance must be added to that).
As far as I could see the lowest price until that moment
Of course the actual price depend on the popularity of a particular aution.
It costed me 2 days trying to get one for the price I had in mind.
The seller is called techworldsg (aka Jason Wong, the owner of DCONNEX)
Thanks for your replies. Given I am local to Jason, I will try to contact him and see if I can buy direct and avoid shipping and eBay waiting hassles etc. Will let you know how it goes. Regards
Update : After a search on the net I came accross an email address for the eBay supplier of this BT GPS unit... [email protected] . Seems like Dconnex website and their proper emails are not involved in eBay trading. Nevertheless, I sent an email and asked for a S$ based price... To my suprise, I was quoted S$590 which translates to about US$350.-... And that is self collect by the way! Unbelieavable. Seems like I will end up doing the eBay order after all.
Yeah, I investigated importing a few to sell locally, the cost price was well above what I ended up paying on ebay.
I reckon what he sells on eBay goes out-of-band as far as local taxation is concerned and whatever he sells locally is legit business and pays taxes on etc and hence the higher price. This is the only reason I can think of for such a price hike...
Dconnex GPS and TomTom
Hi Guys,
Just got myself one of these. The unit seems to be working fine but the CD I got with it is cracked down the middle and unreadable. I have asked the supplier to resend the CD but that could take another 10 days from Singapore.
Questions:
How do I get TomTom 3 to work with it. This GPS doesn't seem to be on the list. What settings need to be in TomTom.
If a driver is required please could one of you kind people send it to me?
Thanks a lot.
Mike Halleron

For TomTom just configure the GPS as '[email protected]' and the relevant Com Port.
This is my config with this GPS:
(I use rom 1.72)
Bond the DC-230
PIN is 0000 (the manual is wrong on this!!)
Answer yes to the question to create a COM port to support Serial Port Profile
In TomTom
Select "NMEA xxxx Bluetooth" (in fact any NMEA or SiRF will do) in upper combo
Select "COM5" in lower combo (even better: "Bluetooth GPS", but that seem impossible for some of us, like me ;-(
Tick the blue-ish box
Off you go.
Beware: If you use COM5 keep in mind what is said in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=11674&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
No driver required.
The manual is on cd as well, but rayher useless since our BT Stack is different from the widely used (and documented) Widcomm stack.
I could email the Cd contents to you.
Thanks for the replies guys. That seemed to do the trick.
It definately works better outside than inside.
Any suggestions about positioning it in a car? Does it have to be line of site or something?
Thanks again!
Mike
With me it works behind every window.
BUT:
It wont perform well behind a windscreen with heat-resistant coating
The beter the view of the sky is the better the performance. (ie behind windscreen or back-window get best results)
I have such a heat-resistant windscreen. On my windscreen there are two places (left & right of mirror) that are coating-free. I put my DC-230 inside a black plastic box and taped that on the windscreen just inside the coating free area. Work super. Plus the plastic box makes it invisible for possible thieves.
I also connected it to a permanent power lead which has the advantage that I constantly have a fix.

financing the docking station

hi guys, because i think the diamond is already expensive enough, i don't want to spend any more money on it. but because I really like the official docking station, i want to get it, so i'm selling some equipment that came with the diamond. if some of you broke yours or simpy want another, post here.
My device is a O2 Xda Diamond and I'm selling (all new, unused and with protection foil still on it):
- Original HTC Diamond Charger (incl. german adapter)
- Original HTC Diamond Data Cable
- Original HTC HS S300 Headset
plus
- 2x 3M Vikuiti DQC-160 screen protectors (incl. protection for the keys)
I will either trade all for a CR G300 or for enough money to buy one myself. Anyone interessed please post here.
LOL! I was in the same boat when I heard Expansys had 25 in stock this morning.
Even with the £10 off voucher I had, I considered the dock really expensive for what it was - but it looks so slick!
Checked Expansys this afternoon, 11 in stock - and its a clearance product meaning they have no plans to stock it again, so I caved!

French shop repairing all HTCs.
Hi all!
Here's a french shop and repairing service for all HTCs:
www.gsm-clinique.com
+33533475559
10, rue Maubec - 64100 Bayonne (France).
Totally satisfied by the work of this guy: cheap fast, and good work!
My screen's all scratched.. So I just ordered an LCD screen with digitizer (and screwdriver) for $21.99 (excl. shipping) from www.truesupplier.com.
Including shipping to the Netherlands ($13.99), some accessories (screen protectors, 3.5mm adapter) and a replacement battery cover ($11.50), it adds up to $54.32. I don't know, the touchscreen seems a bit too cheap to me, considering even they themselves have Diamond LCD's for sale at about twice the price. I e-mailed them and it should really include both the LCD and the digitizer, preassembled even. If it's really the (same as the) original parts then that's an amazing price.. I guess I'll update once I receive it.
Hate to double-post, but oh well. Received what was supposed to be the "LCD and digitizer with free screwdriver" I talked about in the above post, and as I feared and despite the customer support-lady's claims, it was just an LCD screen. No digitizer (the touch screen module) included, no screwdriver either. I e-mailed them about this yesterday, and they generally respond within 2-3 days.
I highly doubt this will be resolved, so I guess I'll have to order a seperate digitizer and screwdriver for $17 total from DealExtreme, wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, then find some way to do the soldering to connect the digitizer to the LCD (don't have the equipment for soldering, never done it before either).
In any case, me = frustrated.

Experiences buying used phone screens on Ali

Dear reader,
I'm looking at buying a screen for an old S6 (G920F). I cracked the original AMOLED when attempting a charging port PCB replacement. A shame, but that is a common occurrence with this repair attempt. Mainboard still works and it charges the battery now that I have connected the new charging port PCB. I has previously run and functions fine, but could only wireless charge with 5W, which took forever. Hence my repair attempt.
This is not a daily driver, but it would be nice to have it as a backup phone. I am not going to spend $130 on a replacement screen though, so I am looking at several listings on Aliexpress ($30-40). This includes:
- used but burned-in screens (different classes, either white and blue only or also with red burn-in for cheaper ones)
- listed as original (but probably also used)
- listed as new replacement (likely knockoff screens)
All in the same price class.
All will include frame and digitizer + charging PCB, I'm not risking another cracked AMOLED.
Some are clear on their description on being used burned-in screens, but some are not.
I reckon I can't post direct URLs to their listings here, but in case you want to check it out, most are in the top 10 range when arranged by no. of sales.
Does anyone have any experience buying these type of screens off Aliexpress?
In my opinion, the burned-in listings seem most honest and have highest chance of actually being an original screen, instead of a knockoff. I'm cautious about listings that state 'new' or 'replacement' without any mention of burn-ins etc. for that last reason.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Why don't you check your local market for defective phones?
Of course, most phones have cracked screens, but with a little patience you may find a bootlooping one or with FRP, no service...
That will surely beat the 30-40 $ of Aliexpress, not to mention possible inconvenience with delivery times (in China Corona-lockdowns are still very popular) and customs.
I have, but there are not that many listings. Most that are, do not state the reason for their defect.
Secondly, it would still be nice to get some answers on the primary question, as it could provide insight on this topic for future scenarios.
Regarding the Ali conditions and circumstances, I have yet to encounter any issues with recent shipments (be it customs or their lockdown protocol. Plus, they often include some kind of warranty (whatever little value it has, still better than none when bought directly second-hand).
Thank you for your reply!
I would look at Amazon for refurbished phones, never buy something at AliExpress
