Hello,
I know this isn't related to the PDA phones, but since it was one of the first smartphones powered by a microsoft OS and some of you like myself might have started out with one I thought this might interest you.
I managed to get the WM5 rom off someone advertising it on the web. It came in 3 parts, and you use a dos program to flash it. Basically when you run part one it gives you a device ID from the phone which you send to him, and then he sends you a key which flashes the device.
Due to flash space on the mpx200 being limited it installs part of the rom onto the storage card, but due to the way in which WM5 manages memory this doesn't work out as bad as you think, which is also the case for WM5 on the mpx200.
In fact I think this rom is a big fat kick in the teeth for companies like I-Mate who won't offer upgrades to older devices based on hardware restrictions. WM5 is probably the best OS for the mpx200, and although its sluggish at times, its no worse than any other OS on the mpx200 (in all honest I think the mpx200 is a bit sluggish regardless).
All in all its quite ironic using WM5 on the MPX200 given the fact my primary phone is a magician which doesn't even have a leaked version.
Here are a few shots I took.

Funny...The MPX200 was originally shipped with the 2002 OS. Nice find i guess.
neostar, where I can download this firmware?
If it really exists...
Re WM 2005 for MPX200 smartphone Build 14343
I'm interested too ...
Yeah I would love a copy too!
http://www.sendmefile.com/00189344
I don't known who upload.
In file you find: ASync 4.1 install, firmware parts, flashing tool, instructions
and unknown program dark5.exe
I don't test this firmware!!!
UPDATED
this firmware don't change beethoven bootloader and gsmradio
Okay, I've downloaded it, and checked it out. First, a quick google revealed that someone is selling it on ebay. The zip has 3 bin files and a "dark5.exe". The instructions says (this is just a part):
"3-Type "dark5 part1.bin" and hit enter, it should come up with a Screen
telling you your Hardware FingerPrint, and asking you to enter a User Name
and a Key. Send me your Hardware Fingerprint, and I will send you your
Username and Key, once entered, it will not ask again."
And since the seller of ebay has the word "dark" in it too, i guess it is the same thing. So, uh, this ROM needs some patching by the SPV-dev/XDA-dev guys
I've looked into the .bin files; a string says: "c : \ m a g b e t a 5 \" so i guess this is magneto beta 5...
It is possible to extract part2.bin into imgfs_raw_data.bin and imgfs_removed_data.bin with mamaich's WM5 ROM tools but the dump tool crashes after extracting a few files.
I *guess* part3.bin is the bootloader.
This firmware installed many peoples from xUSSR and its WORK!
SD card used for store all datafiles and installed programs.
for flashing you can convert bin files to "cmcs image" format. You can use mpx200_backup from marsgod or BINtoIMG from www.onk.nm.ru/mpx200/
Full install guide and discussion (unfortunatelly in spanish) here: http://www.movileswindows.es/
Can anybody help MPx220 users to convert that ROM to their devices?
On MPx200s this ROM works fine.. there are about 500 messages of MPx200 users that installed that ROM on their smartphones. I search a ROM for my MPx220... but I can't find

When you are cooking a WM5 or WM6 ROM for Tornado, the most troubling problem is that you cann't make a real lite rom since you cann't find an imagefs template with suitable size after removing some sh!t, or you may find the original imagefs is not big enough to cover the apps you added. The last issue is your cooked rom always has warning (TEST ONLY or whatever) over the splash screen in red, yes, I know we have got a way to remove the warning but it's still a little inconvenient.
Fortunately, an excellent Chinese rom maker has come up with a generic solution, please download the NBMaker first.
It's not an official tool from HTC, it's made by andot a chinese rom maker, so if you have any question or issue please send feedback to him, I don't think HTC will cover your question.
This tool is really easy to use, see screenshot as following:

When you rebuilding the imagefs, you can see the Used Sectors, we set the above screenshot as an example:
Total Sectors: 0000
Used Sectors : dd6a
Free Sectors : ffff2296
Now fill in dd6a in the textbox Sectors, select a path for os.nb and select the system version, then click Make to make a os.nb. Then type code:
prepare_imgfs.exe os.nb -nosplit
to rebuild imgfs_raw_data.bin and imgfs_removed_data.bin
Then type code:
BuildImgfs.exe
make_imgfs.exe os.nb -nosplit
Then you can get the final os.nb, not more or less just suitable!
Then use nb2nbf_tornado.exe to make os.nbf, after flashing, you will find there is no TEST UI over the splash screen in red. Cooool, thanks andot for his great work.
BTW, you can download rom cooking tools from here, which is Vista compatible.
You can simply use tadzio's ImgfsTools2rc2b.zip . Tested & worked. I have ~19MB free on Storage on my Tornado (based on WM6 alpha without office and windows live)

What does the Radio version of a ROM control? I noticed Dr. Gonzo's ROM has radio version 4.1.13.47_02-98-90, my vox has 4.1.13.37_02.83.90. Does the Radio version control how well the telephone commmuncates with cellular towers?
So after flashing it, do you notice any changes?
Honestly, no I haven't noticed any differences. That is why I didn't want to flash a whole new ROM mjust to get the updated radio, I had a feeling that there would not be any noticeable improvements.
Just to clarify, my rom doesn't update radio version. I prefered leaving this to user choice.
But the screenshot shows another version because I myself decided to update it.
I can't say I've noticed any difference, but maybe it is a thing to try for people having problem with bad signal reception etc...
It also appears that radio versions have an influence on battery consumption : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358933
non official ROM updates
hi everyone, i'm new in the forum and struggling to understand how to "work" on my new htc vox (but in italy is known as S710).
dr. gonzo, i have a few questions for you.
1: i am a vodafone sim user but on my s710/vox it goes ROAMING ON VODAFONE. i spent long time contacting htc asking for explanations and with vodafon italy too but (obviously!?!) it's no ones problem. i have been surfing looking for the same trouble but it looks like only spanish people has this problem but... no ones has idea about solutions...
it is very frustrating as i am not able to connect to gprs/edge nor send/receive mms.
do you know anything about it??? tks
2: i found vox has been produced in 2 versions
A - gps chipset and software built in
B - gps chipset missing but software available.
now the question is... how can i discover which is my model? and how to enable (in case B) the internal GPS module?
3: i read instructions about installing a new rom (and the guava look really pretty) but... it's still not clear how i should do it... i saw some linux talking in the instructions and i am just at the beginning with linux so i don't feel confident in applying any change from linux...
is there a way to do it through windows xp pro?
thanks for all the answers...
After flashing my s710 with ARA rom my radio version is:

if i`m not mistaking the ARA it`s a full ROM (IPL, SPL, RADIO and OS)
Yes, the ARA ROM is complete, but neither the New Guava nor the ROMs you produce with the kitchen have a new Radio version.
@laura8sp:
1.Try to go to HTC E-Club (http://member.htc.com/member/login.aspx), register if you haven't already. Then search for provider settings, maybe that helps!
2.No Vox has GPS built in, you are talking about Wing demo devices and Wing production devices.
3.Just read the instructions provided in the threads or ask there!
EDIT: I attached the correct file for you!
I'll post a file to just update your radio version in the thread about my rom for those interested.

The moment I've seen this I cropped a picture to make it the right size an made it my boot screen.
If only there was a way to change the first boot screen as well, since I'm still playing around with the device I'm seeing both a lot

Seems like you're running the application from PC. You should copy it to your Magician and run it from there.

Hi.
Extended ROM is protected for write on some ROM's.
Soo... for unlock it..
is 1 reg-key:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS1]
"SoftwareWriteProtect"=dword:0
and for show it:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:0
and sometimes:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:2
They are in boot.rgu!
But is not all. Protection is still exists.
Extended ROM is protected for write by TrueFFS driver.
A modified TrueFFS driver is attached.

That method is mainly for ROMMakers and advanced users.
Requires ROM dump.

That's not true for every ROM! In my ROM I only had to change the reg-settings and everything worked fine. I never changed the driver!
Chefs should try reg-settings first and if it does not work you may try to change the driver.
Wow I don’t know how I missed this thread, but I guess ill add my two cents as well.
I have to agree with Ham3r on this subject.
I have played with many newer ROMs and I was never able to unlock the Extended ROM.
In my research all the ROMs I tried with a version number higher than 1.5.?.? failed to unlock write protection.
My solution was to take the TrueFFS.dll from an older XIP and use it, doing so allowed me to unlock the write protection on the Extended ROM.
If anyone has truly had success unlocking the Extended ROM on higher versions please let me know what the ROM version is.
Any Extended ROM can be unhidden however unlocking write protection is a different story.

I found that driver after year.
Old version (from old wizard roms) brick G4 device (device stay on first splash, after flash other rom stay on welcomehead).
In my ROM and here is version similar to 3.08 T-Mo (1.6.3.8?? i don't remember), but without extrom protection.
And I only had to change the reg-setting to unLOCK my ROM and it worked with G3 and G4. I know the differnts between unlocking and unhiding!
