Searching for RUGGED and preferably wireless audio adaptor - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Ok - I realise that this post is similar to a number of other threads. However having read them I feel that they don't sufficiently answer my question/issue.
Until recently I've been listening to music, whilst riding my motor cycle, using my nomad jukebox. I have two small, but quite powerful, speakers installed inside my helmet which give excellent sound quality, but which also permit me to hear traffic noises (sirens and the like) so I'm happy with the setup in my helmet.
However I've recently added Tom Tom and a bt gps unit to my Imate PPC (Phone Edition).
So - here's the setup. I have a tank bag in which my PPC and gps unit are located and I want to get audio to my helmet.
I could hack up my spare handsfree/earplugs and run a cable. That's how I ran the audio from my nomad - however I don't think that's the best solution for me. In the past the frequent vibration and jolting on the bike has tended to damage the female connectors inside units. So I'm thinking of going wireless.
Also - I've seen several comments which suggest that the adaptors one can buy from various places aren't all that strong themselves. Another good reason to go wireless.
I am not interested in talking on the phone when I'm on the bike, so I'm not looking for a handsfree solution. This rules out the new bluetooth helmets, as they don't support music, only phone.
What I'd like is basically a battery powered bluetooth device with an audio jack to let me plug my helmet speakers in.
I've found one such device:
http://www.fida.com/products/pbr301.htm
However I can't find one in Australia.
And so the questions <g>
Has anyone actually done this (or the equivalent)?
Will my Imate communicate effectively with 2 bluetooth devices simultaneously?
Can anyone point me to other bluetooth receivers?
OR
Is there are better solution that you can suggest?

Full Car Kit Needed in UK - Whats Best ?

I have recently bought a XDA2 copy (SPV-M1000), Have Sat Nav working perfectly and would like to fit a full car kit...
From what I can see on the forums - none seem to work well..
I do not need to power the BT GPS as I have wired that already and it works fine.
At the moment I have a full Sony Ericsson P900 kit installed, can it be modified ie cable from cradle unplugged and a new cradle with xda2 lead plugged in ???
Anyway, I need a good working kit if one is available, I have looked at one supposedly an O2 original kit at £145 plus Delivery & VAT... but I think I have seen on here that it either echoes or blows the radio...
Please HELP
regards Alan - ps great forum, best i've seen so far.......
So far the BEST car kit I've found is from Yeti. See the other thread regarding car kits for details. It is not cheap, around 250 Euros. I have one on the way.
Here's the description from their e-mail:
The carkit you seem to be looking for desperately really does exist! In fact, we’ve already sold large amounts of it, also to overseas customers… The specs listed on the forum by a Dutch contributor are right, only the connection to the carstereo doesn’t come standardly: if your carstereo has a line-in, then a special cable is required (ˆ 40,- ex VAT). If your carstereo has no line-in, then a special connection box (ˆ 55,- ex VAT) is required in addition to the cable.
Once having made the connection with your carstereo, you can listen to the Music files on your PDA in stereo over the carstereo and control the volume on the carstereo as well. As soonj as you answer the phone or place a call yourself, the PDA will mute the music and your voice-call will then sound over the carstereo. Should you be using navigation software on your PDA (the carkit has a connector for a GPSmouse), then all navigation instructions will sound over the music files you’re playing, without muting your carstereo (since that would soon be very annoying when navigating in town!). And ofcourse the PDA will be charged in the carkit.
As you may have seen on our website, the carkit comes standardly with a microphone, external speaker, junction box, connection cables, firm PDA holder and small installation materials. A GSM-antennae (with standard connector) is required, because the PDA’s internal antennae will be switched off in the carkit. Given the fact that quite a few cars already nowadays already have such an antennae, we’ve decide to not include the antennae in the standard package, but sell an inside-on-glass antennae as a ˆ 25,- (ex VAT) option, thus keeping the standard price of the carkit as low as possible.
Do you want the full hands free functionality or would a BT Headset suffice? If it would then the Carcomm XDAII Cradle works well www.carcomm.nl .
I've just bought a Brodit holder and mount for my Beemer Mini and I plan on getting a BT headset sometime in the near future. That's pretty much all I could ask for. Sure I could get one that has the stuff Carlos described, but I will probably be moving on with the XDA products as and when they come out and don't want to have to buy more again and again...or at least not at so hefty a price.

Any possibility to disable USB handsfree?

Are there any possibilities to disable USB handsfree of Kaiser?
I'm asking this because I purchased THB Bury car HF kits for both of my cars and they've been working OK but there's something I don't like: voices of TomTom 6 are totally muted while the phone is in its cradle. Usually the voice comes from phone's HF speaker but now when it's disabled since the phone is connected to USB for charging and HF purposes, TomTom 6 won't make a sound.
So I'd really appreciate of someone would know how to disable (and able) USB HF functionality while the phone is in its cradle.
I figure a car kit would route the audio to your car speakers?

Yep, that's true. I'm afraid that THB Bury HF works only during the phonecalls. Otherwise it's totally muted
If I'll release the phone from its cradle, the sound of TomTom 6 will be audible again. But when the phone is situated in its cradle, TomTom 6 will be totally muted
It's not fit for purpose really is it? What use is a hands free kit for this device which mutes the GPS audio? The 'all in one' nature of the Kaiser is clearly one of the major selling points for some people (me in particular).
There are a few threads developing on this theme here and elsewhere which at the very least may warn other people off. Bury should withdraw the cradle until it works properly with the Kaiser.
I find that the handfree earplugs and mic work fine for both phone and TT6 audio so it's something to do with the "Car" profile which the Bury cradle causes the Kaiser to switch to which causes the problem.
I'm going to try a Bury BT adaptor to see if it at least leaves the Kaiser internal speaker active while routing phone audio to the car speaker. It would be a compromise but as things stand, with the hard wired cradle, it's no use to me at all aside from being am expensive brick of a hands free/charging solution.
I'll post an update or an eBay ad shortly.....
This is indeed very annoying and I'm afraid it won't be solved.
I have contacted Bury, they answered that the TT6 software doesn't give a mute signal and that because of this the sound doesn't go to the in car radio. I saw another post on this forum which mentions the same answer.
Thus I contacted TomTom support, but they state that they never activate any mute signal. They only pass some sound information to the phone and the phone should decide somehow if the sound should be directed to the speaker or to the carkit.
Finally I opened a case at HTC, but they already answered I should contact Bury or TomTom...
In Dutch we have a very good proverb for this: "Van het kastje naar de muur gestuurd worden" (which means everyone points their finger to another).
I've now replaced my hardwired Bury cradles for the Kaiser with the Bluetooth versions (and TyTn charging leads - extra) and they seem to work fine.
The phone works hands free, charges, mutes the radio when it should and leaves TomTom talking to me through the internal Kaiser speaker. Tom Tom only mutes during a call. Voice quality is fine for my use.
The cradle can be used with various bluetooth phones and, rather than being made to measure for a particular phone, it is adjustable to fit pretty well any type. One slight resulting nuisance is that I occasionally switch on the camera as I insert the phone (the camera button is on the side where one of the clamps is). Easily sorted by pressing the red key on the phone however.
So I'm a happy punter again. Thanks to phonejunkie for sorting me out.
Alistair.
Alistair, which bluetooth version did you use? It seems Bury have two models:
THB UNI Bluetooth Adapter for the Take and Talk System 8 hands-free car kit and
THB UNI Bury Take and Talk System 8 Bluetooth Cradle.
btw, I got a response from THB stating that none of these was suitable for the Kaiser...

What's the best way to get my phone audio into my car?

I'd like to experiment with streaming audio from my G1 (dream) into my car somehow.
I have a radio/tape/cd deck.
I was looking at these bluetooth FM transmitting items on eBay but I get bad vibes from them generally:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CAR-MP3-FM-...ries?hash=item3a531634af&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
http://cgi.ebay.com/3in1-Car-MP3-FM...ries?hash=item563244e32c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-4G-BLUETOOTH-...ries?hash=item4a9b12b3fb&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
I don't want to make calls or anything, I just wanna listen to music without installing a new deck or anything.
Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.
I got both a
FM transmitting from belkin
and a
normal 3.5mm to tapedeck adaptor
both does the job just fine
I have already mentioned this device in other posts asking similar questions and don't want to appear to be promoting or advertizing for one product; however, I truly love this device for streaming audio to my car stereo. The Motorola BT 505 is a wonderful device that works flawlessly for me. Audio is streamed via bluetooth from my PPC to the Motorola device and sent using a powerful -* And I mean Powerful * fm transmitter to my car stereo. I have had for almost 2 years now and have yet to have any problems or complaints. The rechargeable battery lasts for weeks between charges - even longer depending on how much you use it - I use every day- and still battery life is excellent. The FM Transmitter is powerful enough to overpower even my local radio stations so I get no static at all when using. Only thing that can interupt it is some satelite radio fm transmitters from other people's cars which some are more powerful. Very rare though to experience static. - It can also be used while it is charging I discovered unlike some bluetooth devices.
The tapedeck converter is working fine, it's ugly and a bunch of cords, but it sounds great.

Bluetooth speaker review!

Bought these from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000R6QAHO/ref=oss_product
They finally arrived today! Couple of days late but heyho.
First off - they are TINY!!! Speaker unit comes in a nice little carry pouch and its small enough to chuck in a bag on your way to the beach.
Bluetooth reciever detaches from the speakers and can act as a reciever for headphones (some background hiss, but nothing amazingly bad, doesnt seem much point plugging in headphones this way as the phone is usually pretty close anyway ). This part also acts as the mic for the speakerphone function, not tested it that way yet.
With the bluetooth reciever docked in the speaker unit I tried playing some Gorillaz, and for something sooo small im impressed! I can see this being used in the kitchen instead of listening to the radio, or maybe in the bathroom, its perfect for smallish rooms.
Speakers run from batteries too (4 AAA) not sure how well it will sound outside but for this much money and this much functionality I think its an amazing bargain.
One thing that others have pointed out in reviews is that the bluetooth reciever can be plugged into a decent stereo unit giving you a wireless way of playing your music through your high end systems.
As for how well it works with the Desire, perfect so far! No problem pairing, didnt even ask for the 0000 passcode. With the speakers switched on and the reciever docked I turn on my Desires bluetooth and the speakers give a couple of soft beeps to signal that its connected (once paired it auto connects). Works just how you would want it to. Couldnt get out of range from one end of the house to the other so range is good.
All in all I would recommend these.

[Q] Bluetooth-> Car Aux Device (A2DP)

I want to listen to music in my car via bluetooth A2DP. My car's stereo system only has AUX in. So, I am looking for a device to pair with my phone and plug into the aux port for my car's stereo. I don't really care about hands free calling. That'd be a plus, but not necessary.
I've been doing some research and found two that look reasonable.
BlackBerry Remote Stereo Bluetooth Gateway (would require yet another charger)
Kensington LiquidAUX Bluetooth Car Kit
Does anyone here have any experience with these or any recommendations?
If I were you, I would get something like this:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...10551&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665801276
The reason being that it gets pretty good reviews and you would be able to also use it outside of the car if you wanted to.

I am probably going to buy this thing soon, as I have been eying it for a few days now.
If you don't want to charge there are plenty of wire in kits. Check out parrot. They might have a kit that fit s what you want.

I bought a LiquidAUX and would advise staying away from it unless you like sub par sound quality. The volume is about 75% compared to being plugged directly into my aux port and the quality is like streaming a low quality radio station. For calls I would say it gets the job done "acceptably" but music requires much better fidelity than you'll get from it.
I use the LiquidAUX. I use it to listen to podcasts and have no problem with the sound quality. I did have to buy a ground loop noise filter.
I have the blackberry stero gateway and I use it in my living room, it works fantastic for music.
Just as a follow-up to my original post, I ended up deciding on Satechi Bluetooth Hands-free Car Stereo Fm Transmitter for iPhone 4, 3Gs & 3G and Bluetooth Stereo A2DP supported Devices (available on amazon).
The Satechi device works great! It pairs with the phone quickly and the sound quality is great. This device is exactly what I was looking for. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and has AUX out which I plugged into the stereo in my car. I was a bit worried about noise from the car's engine, but that wasn't a problem. The volume is very slightly lower than plugging the phone directly into the AUX in on my car's stereo. Realistically, that may just be my ears playing tricks on me. It also has a USB port which puts out 5V @ 1000mA for charging USB devices (my Epic).
I didn't use the FM transmitter or the call feature since the only thing I really wanted was the A2DP to AUX.

What kind of car? I know GM and several others have aftermarket adapters that plug into the factory harness that allow the addition of A2DP in an almost factory style addon.

Subaru. I'm actually planning on switching out the factory stereo for a carputer-type thing in the spring. This is just hold me out until nicer weather.
davidb_, why are you opposed to using the Aux port? Seems like a simpler yet more robust solution.
http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/1919
I was just about to post something about that Scosche one. After doing a bit of searching, it seems to be rated fairly well. I'm considering buying one for my wife's car, so if anyone has any experience with it, I'm curious to hear about some more first hand experience.
I have now used both the Kensington LiquidAUX and the Scosche BTAXS motorMOUTH II and I am wishing there was something that had the best of both. Here are my thoughts on both:
Kensington LiquidAUX
I really like the overall feature set of this solution. The remote is handy to skip past ads in podcasts and to jump back a few seconds when the navigation interrupts what I'm listening to. I also like that it is powered.
What I didn't like is that I had to get a ground loop noise filter (although once I did, the sound was perfect.) Also, there were some connection issues if I was listening with the car off and then started the car due to the interruption of power to the device. The phone never seemed to reconnect in that situation. I would have to turn off the LiquidAUX and turn it back on and wait for it to reconnect. I liked that it has an extra USB port so I could charge the phone if it was low on juice without a separate power adapter but it only charges at 500 mA so really it just kept the phone from dying without really adding extra charge during the drive. The one huge drawback to the LiquidAUX was that people found it difficult to hear me during calls. I usually had to switch the call to speakerphone to have any success. I think the location of the microphone (due to the location of my power port) was the cause of this issue. This is what led me to purchase the Scosche BTAXS.
Scosche BTAXS
There were several things that impressed me with the Scosche BTAXS. I loved the fact that there was no mess of cables. The position of the microphone was much better because it was up at the AUX port of the head unit so I never had any complaints on calls. The sound was great and since it wasn't drawing power from the car I no longer needed the noise filter. Also, Scosche provided many great accessories in the box that other companies might have sold separately.
What I don't like about the Scosche BTAXS is the terrible battery life. I drive about 40 min to work. I cannot use the Scosche BTAXS on both my drive to and from work and leave it in the car overnight and expect it to work the next day. If I drive around on my lunch break, it may not last all day, even when I turn it off when not in use. Scosche does provide a charging cable and car adapter so I can power it during use but that takes away the coolness of not having any cables. It also introduces a little bit of ground loop noise. If I was to run it through the filter I would not be able to position the microphone where I would get the best call quality.
In conclusion, neither of these devices is perfect. The call quality issue of the LiquidAUX is a big drawback that I wish there was a way to overcome. Since there isn’t, I will most likely stick with the Scosche and just make sure I recharge it whenever I am not in the car.
I got this from Buy.com for $20 a few months back. Hopefully you'll find a good deal like that again.

Any update on products for this. I am looking to do this in my 09 jetta through the Aux in, and none of the solutions seem that stellar. Just wanted to see if anyone had found something recently that works great.
I keep looking for a simple BT solution that can give me the best of both worlds. I'm surprised there is no simple BT receiver that can sit behind the dash plugged in to power and aux with a mic out and corded dual mic I can route myself. Liquidaux and motormouth II come close yet miss the mark. A quality mic on the kensington would make for a perfect setup. A remote mic on the motormouth II would be great. Makes zero sense at this stage of the game.
