im after a pda/phone and thinking a xda

which current model would suit my needs best
phone.pim,wif.fi.bluetooth and mp3
thank you

hi,i have been using xda for many years,
From Xda to xda ll,xda lls and xda lli
now im using dopod 900.
its did not give me problem like all xda does.
after using dopod 900
i find its very stable & im so pls with it

You'd perhaps be best with an XDAIIi. This will give you the functionality you'd need (don't get an XDAII by mistake - no onboard wifi). You could add an SD/MMC card for your audio. 2GB cards are becoming available at reasonable prices but 1GB would normally suffice (ebuyer.co.uk). If you're used to little phones like Nokias and Erikssons you might want to consider the physical size. XDAs are not small - especially in a case. You also will need to check this site for streamlining your device as they don't run at their optimum on delivery.

xdaIIs vs xda-mini w/SD-wifi card

hi guys! just want your opinion/advise on this one. both products are available here at my place.
im a lot into the web thats why im really considering "wifi" function. i know that you might think -- why not go for the xda IIs with built-in wifi?. well, its because im also considering the 1.3 mega-pixel camera feature of the xda-mini. but then again, the xda mini has no sliding-keyboard which is a "cool" and useful feature.
so . . . . im left hanging what to go for?
i would really appreciate to know your comments. thanks in advance.
wait for a couple more month. There is a Dopod 699 which has all of what you wanted. same size as XDAII with 1.3mega pixel camera.
Dopod 699 is available in Asia now cost about USD$900.

ETEN M700 user review or info

Dear all,
Does anyone have this pda phone review (in english)
info so far ?
Can it work on skype ?
Thanks
http://shop.eten.hu/eten-glofiish-m700-p-100.html
Skype Receiver Switch on board
eten's PDAs work really good with skype AFAIK, but m700 is not a powerful device (i saw a review somewhere but it wasn't in english..)
if you want to know more about eten's PDAs' technical info and problems and stuff, check out this site
X_Farhad you saved with that link. I was considering to buy Glofiish X500 but after reading the forum I have relised it has too many problems. Comparatively, HTC P3300 is much better albeit a slower device.
Comparing apples with oranges? The M700, the topic issue, won in all direct comparisons with the P3300, hands down. Not even to speak about the crippled 3300-versions floating around from operators like T-Mobile...

well from my point of view, x500 is much better, there are not many flawless devices availabe... but the thing is, HTC users got XDA-DEV, and that's the true blessing
Admin edit: message removed because of spamming.
After a month of research, I'm going to go with a P3300 instead of the ETEN products as well. They have way too many problems and from what I can see from review, the P3300 has the least problems I've ever seen. The only issue that was really an issue was the "card corruption" issue and that was fixed with an official patch from HTC. The ETEN's not only have issues with their software and hardware, but they also have poor support from the company. Really wanted one, but just too much of a gamble at getting a good one.
did anyone patch their m700 to PDAViet 4.0.0.0.6 Touch or any touch ROM?
i would like to do it

Can I load Windows 2003 on HTC Touch/Dual /O2 Flame

Hi all,
I have been using o2 XDA and XDA II mini for many years , i tried almost all new phones with WM5/6 and i am very much sure that it does not serve my purpose and work.
Can I buy a new 02 / HTC touch dual or tytn and load windows 2003 on it.
I understand that i will loose warranty etc. but is it possible. pros & cons?
Can i do it ? how ?
thanks
roms are tailored 100% for a device
so if the device maker never made a 2003rom for a device
one would have to start from scratch and maybe
have to reverse engineer drivers if some were requied
and not available in a wm2003 model

if someone really wants to spend money and energy he can,but it would be better to have wm5 or 6 for some devices like magician instead an overcomed 2003 for newer ones like touch dual, pharos, cruise, diamond
and by the way people developing os are trying to make a better os every time, and in most cases they do it, so you get better memory handling, better drivers...faster device if you want it that way
WOW! Why would you want to put a server OS on your phone? lol

do you have a specific for example compatibility problem with WM5+?
I have over 10,000 client contacts on my phone , I transferred data to couple of new phones with wm5 and wm6. All is well till I try to search. When i search for a contact it takes around 5 mins on new phones with wm5 and wm6 . It takes 3-4 secs on the the XDAII and XDA mini for the same. having tried many phones and tools , i assumed that the problem should be with OS. with improved graphics and whole lot of other features which take up the active resources may be the search module does not get all that is required.
MY xda mini 2003 / xda II 2002 have less features ,less graphics so they are faster is what i have concluded from all these experiments that i have done wit new phones.
Thanks

If you compare the search tool with my kind of data, you will understand taht the new OS is not of any help to me. I agree , that there may be whole lot of new features and drivers , But search in a n integral part of the os and don't understand why that should change. and it works superb in earlier versions 3 secs V/s 5 mins to search.
Your problem is caused by a new way of working with memory in WM5+ systems. WM2003 used part of RAM as a storage medium for installed programs and also contact databases were located there. WM5+ uses internal flash instead. Data from flash doesn't disapear when you run out of battery juice. On the other hand it is a numerous times slower. However i cannot imagine the slowdown would have been so drastic. I would advise you trying the fastest possible device with lots of RAM (Samusng Omnia i900 or HTC Touch Diamond). It is possible the slowdown will be more acceptable. If it will be no success you can modify some ROM to use RamDisk as a storage medium. However, there are no new devices with WM2003 ROMs available.
That is the most convincing answer that i have got since last year when i started looking for replacement for my XDA.
After trying almost every new and latest PDAs in the market, I am sure that the new PDAs will not be any great help
BUT your statement - " Modify some ROM to use RamDisk as a storage medium." makes me hopeful.
Unfortunately, for novice like me it ends there. I don't know how modify ROMS, or any place where i can get it done. Even if i get one, i don't know how to load it. Tutorials did not help much, they were just too much technical. I may be a odd one in this developer forum, but this is only place where i think i can get the answer. I am just looking for PDA that is just equvialent to my XDA II and XDA mini
Many Thanks for your response

O2 offering XDA Guide

I have just been onto O2 UK re my pending upgrade, I asked about XDA products as I have been using them since the begining and since I have purchased all the mapping for USA + Europe I want to stick with the brand.
I have been offered an XDA Guide ( due for release in May ) or the original XDA Serra... Would anybody be able to advise on the new features as at present I'm using the XDA Orbit2.
Many thanks in advance
Damian
the main differences between the orbit 2 and the guide are that the guide has double the ram and rom, 256 ram and 512 rom. It is also smaller than the orbit. The guide runs on windows mobile 6.1 pro and has a faster 528mhz processor and supports up to 7.2mbps on hsdpa. It should also come with tomtom 7 installed.
The UK version of Xda Guide will ship with Co-Pilot 7 NOT TOMTOM 7.
Cheers

Many thanks for all the info in this matter, I have been using Co Pilot V7 on the orbit 2, have also just got all the N. America mapping so will stick with it for another 9 months until next upgrade and wait to see what they release by then

For me a huge amount of ram, internal storage, a battery that can last for a week, water-proof and unbreakable. And have customizable rom that can mimic any rom devices you want (i.e. sony, samsung, miui, CM or even iOS). (it's not hard to dream... :fingers-crossed
the restricted ability to connect to a network. Apple has the multipeer connectivity feature which can essentially allow for worldwide connection almost free of cost. (I haven't read into it much so I may be very wrong). If internet connection was allowed such as the WiFi Freedom Tower during the Occupy movements. I'm sure this is far from likely to happen but it has been done small scale already.
The Whole Device
