Hard reset with WM5.0 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 2005 Upgrading

Hi all,
I would like to know in detail what the three options:
Enable KITL
Clean Registry Hive
Format Storage
do when I hard reset my Himalaya.
Adviced after upgrade are NO,YES,YES.
Can somebody explain, please ?
Thanks.

its a
No
YEs
Yes

KITL : Kernel Independant Transport Layer .... to learn more about this , please go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/wcedsn40/html/cgconKernelIndependentTransportLayer.asp
Clean Registry Hive : this option is to clean all the registry entries and put the default registry if you set to YES . If NO , registry keys you have adedd or modified are here after reboot
Format Storage : It's to format the internal storage (contactas , calendar ...) if you set to YES . If NO , any data are erased .

Thanks TofClock !

I do not get these options when I hard reset my Imate.. (As I have nothing in my extended rom now)..
I have realised that I would like the option to reset my data to defaults when I do a hard reset..
1. What is the name of the program does does the forementioned prompts ?
2. Where does that program come from, or where can it be found ?

How To Peform a Hardrest?

Hi guys,
I would like to know how do I hardreset my freshly flashed mda II. I'm using the helmi sp2 rom and I've got the following problem: all programs I have installed before remained still in storage after a successful flash operation!
I can't peform a hardreset under wm 5 because the camera button is damaged and does not work anymore! I suppose that is the error I made during the flashing process by not making the following steps:
qoute from flashing manual:
Select the options as follows:
(for selecting use RecordButton, change values with CameraButton)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
Never made this step. So my qestion to you is how do I make a hardreset and get to this menu without using the hardware buttons?
thank you so much in advance for your help!
Start -> Settings -> System -> Clear Storage?
thx for response!
unfortunately there's no "clear storage" button. any further solutions?
the previous reg still remained...you have to fix that camrec button...

What does an hard reset on a smartphone ?

Hello,
I'm exeriencing some random lookups with my s620, i think because:
1) memory leaks on the apps I have to use
2) i used to install anything i found on the first week of use and thus bloated/corrupted something
an answer could be to do an hard reset.
i have also problems with my JVM and found a new version on a forum (here?) so my question is:
If I modify the contents of my phone (like /Windows) and remove, modify or corrupt some files, will an hard reset make my phone like on the first day
or...
hard reset is just cleaning user partition, if you modified/removed some files of Windows you are screwed ?
Thanks
It will wipe out any registry changes and everything else. Your phone will be reverted back to the same state as the day you bought it.
So at first boot, WM copies itself from firmware (write only) to work area (read write) ?
I have a small new phone operator that use special software to connect to their networks. Is it possible that they add this software/network preferences (not sure to find GPRS settings) "outside" the firmware and that my phone will revert to an unbranded HTC or is it more likely that they have a custom rom ?
Just to confirm: I install the new midlet manager, if it break everything I can ALWAYS revert by hard resetting ?
no most of windows is run directly from the rom
only chanable stuff like registry is in ram/flash you have write rights to
and yes you can always hardreset

Upgrade to latest WM5 from WM5

Ok I downloaded the file for my XDAIIs to upgrade it from an early version of WM5 to the latest one.
All went ok and it upgraded the device so all my programs were still there and working.
So the problem is there are duplicate icons in the program list (powerpoint and word ect..) but more importantly everytime I install new software they dont get added into the program list, but they are in the remove programs list and in some cases the programs will run (SOTI Pocket Controller only)
So what have I done wrong if anything or how do I get round it.
Thanks
normaly when people do an rom update they do a
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
in the bootloader to get rid of registrys and data from the last rom
which can easy result in the issues you are facing
ok that seems fair enough... is there something I can do with the current install or will I need to upgrade again.
I have taken out the duplicate shortcuts that were in the programs list so its just a case of getting new programs to display....
Thanks
it's result is that of the old fasion hardreset
== everything back to whats in the rom
Ok just done it.... thanks for all your help
this is a xda2s and when I press the power button and press the reset button for upto 10 secs the device doesnt factory reset.... but I am sure it did before:
1) am I doing that right
2) how do I change the settings so it clears the reg ect... if I wanted to upgrade the device again.
Thanks

Why,Why?!?

Having been trying to flash for couple weeks now and I can't get past the application unlock step. I need help please Wm5 is too outdated. I have a very virginy Sp5 nothing ever done to it and I just got it. I was reading some ancient forums dated 2006-05 and saw that i-mate released a ROM update and that was 2.5 333 ....something can remember but even that was newer than the rom currently loaded into this phone,so u have an idea of clean this phone is. Perhaps this is the problem. I am using Karhoe's guide and I am not sure if it works for such a virgin phone as mine, i keep getting this error(attached) plz help. Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem, and all I had to do was do a hard reset (clear storage) on my phone and restore it to factory settings (of course backup all the data you want to keep first). It seems as if I junked up my phone with things.
I've had same prob , solved using this unlocker
Not sure how to do a hard reset but I'll fiddle around somemore but Thanks alot stesa and the craze.
Hard reset is the same thing as "Clear Storage" found in the menu items. Factory default..
if u fail to unlock application using unlock application try try this:
Download regeditSTG2 fro: http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/387522/regeditSTG2.zip
Then install it and change some registry values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 2
-> change to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 16
-> change to 40
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001017 = 128
-> change to 144
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies
-> create new key "0000101a": Dword = 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies
-> create new key "0000101b": Dword = 1"
after this reset phone then supercid using lockwiz
