Camera update... more frames per second - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi All,
I am looking for a software update for my
XDA Mini camera software.
I have the version 2.70 ( done 18727)
on my Xda mini.
Is there a new version out that:
1. Can record in a higher framerate than 10 frames/sec
in 320x240 ?
2. has a mode for 90 degrees 320x240 instead of 240x320 ?
Will it be possible to tweak the camera to get
better pictures and video ?
Thanks.
Regards, Stefan.

afaik you can take videos in 320x240 (landscape mode) , just press the key under green key..

How to check camera's version ?

Hi,
thanks for the info about landscape mode.
Does anybody know,
if there is a newer camera version out than:
version 2.70 ( done 18727) ?
Aren´t there any independant camera developers here ?
I would be willing to pay for a software that can do
any recording in 320x240 in 25 frames/sec in any Codec.
Please let me know, if there exists something like this.
Thanks.
Regards, Harti.

well, i think it aint so easy but if it is
the version you`re using is the newest as far as i know, follow another thread about saving pictures to sd. check that out!
I realy love to see software for the camera function of pda`s.
Also a "panorama maker" sounds cool

Hi,
where is exactly the other thread ? URL ?
Is there a better camera software inside the XDA mini s,
( the new Imate Magician with the keyboard ) ?
As it is probably the same hardware camera device,
maybe it will have a better software which can be extracted
from the Roms and could be used also for the Magician ?
What camera software comes with Windows Mobile 2005 ?
Is there already any pocket PC out there,
that can record videos in 640x480 in more than 10 frames/sec ?
Regards, Harti.

There is a new version its V2.70 (Build 21026)
Here is a CAB file that will install the new camera into Storage and the Album as well.
I have also attached just the new camera that will install into RAM which will replace your existing one (this option will use up your RAM)
The below CAB's include the camera fix so the speckles or "Snow" have also but been removed.
To uninstall you may have to manualy delete the new shortcuts and replace them with the standard shortcut found in the windows directory.
These CAB files will not delete the old files as they the old ones are loaded into RAM which can't be deleted.
If you want the CAB file to remain on your PPC after installation simply change its file preferences to "Read Only"
All CAB Files include the Speckle (or noise) FIX

Thanks,
does this new version support more than 10 frames/sec
in 320x240 resolution mode ?
Howdo I install CAB files ?
Please give me an URL , where it is explained, how I can
install CAB fileson the pocket PC, thanks.
Regards, Harti.

Not sure what the frame rate is.
To install CAB files just copy the file onto you SD card or into your device via a card reader (sd card) or via ActiveSync "Explore".
After you copy the file click on it on your Pocket PC via your file explorer.
Thats it. it will install into the folder i mentioned above.

Is there soon coming a new camera software version
that can capture at 25 frames/sec in any codec ?
Who is working on something like this ?
I really wouldl ove to pay money for such a recording program.
Please use overclocking if you can´t get it the normal way, but please
someone try 25 frames/sec at 320x240 at least.
Thanks.
Regards, Stefan.

Please can you check,

it seems to be true, after decode to DVx, player show me 25 frame per sec. & all fast motion in the movie looks fluent

Hi,
Did you record Video or MMS Video ?
in Mode Video with MP4 and MJPEG Avi the new version
still records in 10 frames /sec.
Maybe your converter programm interpolates it just to 25frames/sec ?
But this will still not be true 25 frames/sec from the source, the camera
and still will be quite choppy.
Regards. Stefan,

Hi,
I tested now all modes again with TCPMP Player
and all 320x240 modes only have 10 frames/sec !
Only the H263 mode with just 176x144 has 15 frames per
second. But that is just for MMS Videos mostly only and I want at least
320x240 in 25 frames/sec.
Regards, Stefan,

so is it worth it to upgrade from build 20117 to 21026? i'm using 2.7 build 20117 and the camera is still worthless.

ampda,
Are you going to do a new CAB download of the newer version which has your "bonus fixes" added in?
Just wondering cause I just downloaded your file above but am now wondering if there's something new just around the corner

How (or with what program) can I rotate a picture/movie?

I can't find anything that does this on the software that's included with Mio.
Can anyone help me on this one?
ROM R55
The 'Pictures' app included with Windows Mobile PDA/phones should be able to rotate and save pictures - look closely at the buttons on the bottom row when a picture is open.
As for videos, I'm a bit confused! Do you mean you want to temporarily rotate your videos so that you can view them on landscape on your PDA? Then use TCPMP (Google it), a great freeware media player that plays Divx/XviD, WMV, etc etc...
If you mean actually changing say, a 320x240 video to a 240x320 one (permanent rotation), then I dunno!

Ah, thank you!
Now I saw it. You will have to View the picture, and then press EDIT. I don't know why this is not available on the thumbnail mode...
Thanks!
About the movie, I've heard about tcpmp, but what I want is to change from 320x240 to 240x320.
Thanks for the info!
Anyone else knows how to accomplish this?
That would take actually re-encoding (I think) which even for a 100MB movie would be a bit too much work for a PPC device.
Such app might exist any way but I don't know any.
Try a desktop app called Virtual Dub. It's free and lets you manipulate just about any format in any way (size, orientation, encoding etc.).
TCPMP can of course rotate to landscape easily.
If you want to reformat the source video itself, as Levenum says, use Virtual Dub and apply a filter to rotate. It doesn't take too long, but is a lossy process because you have to re-encode.
This is definitely not something for the PDA, PC only.
If you're recompressing or reformatting for PDAs, I highly recommend SmartMovie, http://www.lonelycatgames.com/index.php?note=smartmovie&chapter=smartmovie
or Lathe/PocketDivXEncoder

Humm..
The thing is I can't play 3gp taken by MIO on Nokia phones. I assume that it can be due to "size", but I don't know.
Thanks for all the input!
Well I don't have a clue how MIO's camera apps work, as I only have a HTC Magician, but try and check that your camera is indeed recording apps to standard 3gp - meaning it uses the H.263/H.264 (i forgot which) or MPEG-4 codec.
Also, as far as I know, only the most recent 'N' series of Nokias and some other high-end Nokias use 320x240 resolution screens. For Series40 Nokias (eg. 6230), the screen resolution usually sits at 128x128, with optimal support for 128x96 videos. Series60 (eg. 6600) usually have 176x200 screens, meaning that 176x144 is best for them. If your MIO has any resemblance to my Magician, its camera app should have options for you to take video at these lower resolutions.
As for resizing existing video, yes VirtualDub is the best, but it won't support 3GP (from my experience the MOD version will only do AVIs and MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 reliably). You could try ImTOO MPEG Converter (Google it), which while of dubious coding quality will convert many files to many other files. A free and perhaps better option is SUPER, though be wary as it will spit out some out of sync files on some formats (but theres so bloody many formats supported that it's hard to list them)!

That's it. Thank you very much!!
I recorded in H.263_AMR 240x320, and since it was sent to a 6630 it wouldn't play it...
I will record and send in 144x176 and try it!
BTW, why does the quality suck on Mio video capture?
Look at these 2 clips and a bit of a picture.
Sorry bout the long reply, been quite busy recently with work!
Anyway, video capture isnt a particularly strong point with Pocket PCs and phones in general... their processors cant capture full 25fps video at high quality - remember thats like taking 25 photos a second! My Magician wont do nice smooth video even at 176x144, and I daresay that the Mio range fares worse since most of them use the slower Windows Mobile 5. Thats just something that no one seems to be able to fix, unfortunately .
However CoolCamera apparently will work better with the camera than the default camera apps... however I don't think its compatible with the Mio. Even if it does, you'll have to pay for it . Also note that it can only record to AVI - Motion JPEG codec, so it wont play back on Nokias.
EDIT: Not sure if this is the same case with Mios, but on my Magician, formatting the storage card to FAT16 makes a huge difference to read/write times! Try that to speed up your video to storage card!

Best mp4 converter for HD 2

can anybody tell me which program can I use to convert .avi files to .mp4 files in best resolution supported by hd2 ? As far as I know Mp4ForHd converts only files to touch hd resolution so as I asked before, which program can be used to convert to mp4 and in which resolution? And my second question - in upper right corner there should be a litle icon which allows me to disable running aplications - I don't have it, how can I turn it on ?
Well, the Touch HD and HD2 have the same screen resolutions (they are both WVGA) despite the size differences. I have used MP4forHD and find that the audio/vidio sync is out on the HD2. I tend to use Any Video Converter which is freeware and allows for much greater customisation to suit your needs, and have yet to find any sync issues. Be sure to keep the video bitrate <= 2000 as values above this start to effect the framerate/ playback smoothness. Also, it is best to keep the resolution at WVGA otherwise you will increase the chance of exceeding the 2GB file size limit. Anything file size above this the HTC Album program wont play (i'm assuming this is what you want to use?).
i use Super i think its the best freeware

Videocam illusion

Hi,
I'm the developer of Videocam illusion app. I have just checked a problem with SE X10 audio recording speed (supports only 48.000 Hz recording). I will release a fix ASAP.
Regards,
Mobileillusion
EDIT 2:
I have just released version 1.5 of "Videocam illusion". I hope the audio recording problem of the previous version was fixed for the Xperia X10.
I have upload the apk, but I would prefer that you download it (and rate if you like) from the Android Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidillusion.videocamillusion
Thanks for your support!
What's new on version 1.5
- New user interface
- Optimized video player
- New retro filter: Chicago
- Animated mask: 8mm
- More filters/effects/masks: color, blur & white border
- Adjustable filters & effects
- Front camera support (Android 2.3+ required)
- Zoom (if supported)
- Ready for Tablet
EDIT: Here the SE X10 bugfix release (with 48 KHz recording)
Thanks, I guess most of us have been wondering why the sound sounds like chipmunk/accelerated and so does the video.
excuse my English. take this opportunity to ask if there a way to increase the recording frames. In fact, when I started recording 15 fps, but after a few seconds down to 5-6 .... tanks
Hi,
Thanks for your application encd for your replay ....
I just wonder if it would be possible to have the video encoded not only in MOV but in MP4 and/or 3gp formats in order to be also enclosed in MMS ?
Regards
Hi again,
thanks for the feedback. I have changed the recording freq to 44.100 Hz.
Could you tell me if now is working propertly?
About the questions...
The app records MOV files (MJPEG format). I have developed the MJPEG encoder/decoder. The frame rate drops while recording because each frame must be encoded. I think I could speed up a little, but not a lot.
About MP4/3GP format Android Multimedia API doesn't support direct frame encoding to video. :-(
I'm working on a MP4 encoder, but right now speed sucks. I will try to optimize.
Regards,
Mobileillusion
Hi
I will test it in few minutes and let you know what are my impression
Regards
Is this the latest version? I just download videocam illusion from market today...it show version 1.o..
Getting between 7-13fps only 640x480
Sound still abit chipmunky but it's better than before. Hopefully you can update it again
Hi,
the atached file is a "SE X10 bugfix" version (1.0.1). I will release a new version in the Market with audio recording freq selector (not only 44.100 Hz) the next week.
Feel free to let us test out your pre-release and provide feedback to you
Dev, thank you for working on this. Much appreciated

Well, you said Android's framework for 3rd party apps doesn't support direct frame encoding. Right?
Then what about using superuser to get over this framework?
All firmwares here are pre-rooted, so this wouldn't be a problem.

you're right, direct frame video encoding is not available for 3rd party apps.
I have to investigate the Android source code to see how to directly access the encoder. If anyone can help me would be fine.

Much better, but it still takes the sound up a bit, maybe go up to 44.1Khz? Unless thats what was making it go up. Then i guess take it down.

Hi Realorasz,
I have checked the problem and you're right. I think 8000 Hz works better (with no speed up), but also 48 KHz.
I will release a "quick version" soon.
Thanks!
PS: I'm right now also working on a full resolution image viewer "Gallery illusion HD" that supports big "jpgs" and displays pictures with no quality loss. Now is in public beta and can be download free on the Android Market. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Good to know
Hopefully make full use of the 720p camcorder once you're able to fully use the encorder, hopefully the ROM devs here can help you out.

MMS settings
Hi ... as for 2.1 camera excellente job .... I can cleary see the improvement
As usual to change the audio may be dangerous for shyncronisation
One think I observed and I would like to suggest is concerning the MMS settings
Currently the format is 3gp but with size 640 by 480 ......
Trying differente sizes ... produce reboot when playing the video
Because of these settings the video length pemitted within the 300k standard is just 7-8 sec istead of the almost 30 sec permited with 320 by 240 or by using QIF smaller sizes......
What I wonder is if it would be possible to set the MMS video on 3gp but with smaller size or if it is available a tool (like the one used in the last 2.1) able to resize the mms video
Thanks
Is this the same Camera app that Wolfbreak has included as an update to his CM 6.1.3 v4.4?
If so then can you optimize the 720p quality please, since I get audio delays and the recorded videos also have lags in them. The 720p can be enabled by just clicking 'Custom' in the quality settings and although you see green lines and distorted images on screen, the camera app actually records in 720p
If you can fix the audio and video issues, this will be the final answer to _ALL_ of our camcorder woes
Camera uninstalled by mistake..
Any ideas on how to install the new or get the old one back on CM 6.1.3 v4.4. Should have just replaced the camera.apk but instead I uninstalled.
Update: Used flashtool to install camera.apk from Rendeiro. Thanks to him.
Install the codec from here...

[MOD][2011-08-27]Improved video & audio setting

Hi there,
here's my patched media_profiles.xml which improves your LG 3D video&audio recording quality.
The sound is significant improvement, i was sick of that "crispy" noise. After trying this patch you'd hear the sound is more natural.
You only need to apply these settings (replace the file in your system).
No need for additional patches or extra camera apps!
For recording on SD I recomend to use Class 6 or better, but i've made some tests on Class 4 with pretty good results as well.
That this improves:
2D and 3D video bitrate to 15Mbps
Video sound to 48kHz at 256kbps
What do I need
Your rooted LG Optimus 3D
Any file manager (eg. Root Explorer)
Download my file mediaprofiles.zip (see link below)
How do I install it
Root your phone (if not already done)
Download the file mediaprofiles.zip
Extract the media_profiles.xml from the Zip to the SD card of your phone
In your phone file manager:
go to system/etc and make a backup of your media_profiles.xml (eg rename it)
copy or move the new media_profiles.xml (the downloaded) to system/etc
Reboot your phone
Enjoy improved video & sound quality
Note that some players may still report the sound is only LQ at 24KHz 64kbps but just try it, you'll hear the difference very well
BUGS
Front camera is not recording
Camera app may crash when saving video - however video should be saved correctly.
... will try to get this fixed asap ...

Thank you so much,great job
15mb are for 720p or 1080p in 2d?
thanks so much
great mod =))
Seems to be working fine. Video is crisper in high detail areas and the bitrate in my sample video increased from 8 Mbit/s to about 12 or 13 Mbit/s.
Some weird behavior though: After I've shot a video (when I tap the Stop button) I get booted to the home screen instead of remaining in the Camera application. The video itself is fine though, no corruption or anything, but it's a bit of an annoyance to get booted.
Hi,
the bug with front camera seems to be fixed,
also the crashing camera app when saving the video seems to be fixed.
I'll make some tests and if this will work fine I will post the updated MOD asap....

OMg.... stupid.
EDIT: ( dont be kid, you just downloaded my mod and edited media profiles.... i checked it right now... and is my custom media profiles... )
Check the original media profiles, then check my media profiles and you see the diference, and then check my media profiles with the media profiles of this mod.. the same, just edited the bitrate...
And 1 more thing about the "audio" tweak... Be carefull with that, because some phones cant handle it for any reason, and the recording will crash soon as the phone "exceed" the limit.
may sound strange, but can we have a "compromise" version?
I would love this as the macroblocking on 3D is obvious on my big TV, but my SD card isn't that fast, any chance of an 8mbps version? (for 3D, double the bitrate of stock but not so high it needs an expensive SD card)

I think you should buy a class 6 sd card, or save the camera files into internal memory.. These mods are made for the best results as we can
