Informational Topic - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

I hope nobody got mislead by the title, but here goes.
Might it not be a good idea to create a closed(only editable bij mods) sticky topic in which it states what te latest (at least Shipped) ROM's, Radio and EXT ROM's are?
Like most noobs/posters I would like to have the latest version of all device software, but the question about which ones they are, frequently get neglected. By making a sticky topic like I proposed, people can just check out the topic and see what to use.
The topic doesn't need to be edited that much so it could be maintained (I reckon) by the mods.
And may be a description of the format might be handy to note as well
Because , for instance, I don't know what the difference is between:
WWE_11200_550_11200 and WWE_11200_188_11210
I know WWE = WorldWide English
I suppose 188/550 = operator (but which ones?)
And I don't know what the 11200 and 11210 is, cause I thought both were 1.12 ROMs
So to the convenience of frequent posters who get tired of the same questions over and over again, I'd like to recommend that Sticky Topic

Great idea, i'll 2nd that.
PS thanks i didn't know what WWE meant.

I'm a newbie in this regard (i bought my first magician a week ago) but i think the numbers mean:
WWE: World Wide English (maybe there're also US and UK english)
11200: ROM version
550: External ROM Version
11210: Radio Version
PLS correct me if i'm wrong.
Bye bye,
Isidoro
PS: I wonder where did u (members of this forum) take the 1.13 radio version available on the ftp server. I wasn't able to find a shipped rom version (in any language) including it!!! Did u extract it from another HTC model? Is it better than the default 1.12.10 i found on my Imate Italian ROM? Thanks u all, i love this forum!!! bye[/quote]

I beleive from memory the 1.13 radio was taken from a chinese rom (?). Can't tell you any more than that, sorry. I haven't noticed the awesome differences some people were saying about the newer radio, though. I went from 1.11 rom and radio to 1.11 rom with 1.13 radio and barely noticed a difference. Don't ask me why I didn't go to 1.12 rom, just couldn't be bothered downloading it!

Try it like this on BA wiki...

Yes, Bubisch that's exactly what I meant.

HELP! Need advice reg. ROM

Hi,
I'm confused with the mass of information and complicated procedures I found here. :?
I got a HTC Magician here in Switzerland by Orange (known as SPV M500)
Operator version is: 6.06.5.164
ROM version: 1.06.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.05.10
Protocol version 1337.39
ExtROM version: 1.06.164 WWE
I surely would like to improve the performance and especially the internal' memory by applying some upgrade.
Could a nice person guide me toward best possible solutions, please?

Thanks; I checked this link, but except some valuable information, I found the whole thing even more tough to understand. I'm not an engineer, I'm just looking for a helping hand.
So I reiterate. Can anyone answer my question?
I'll have a go:
Upgrade your ROM. Yours is about 1.06, current is 1.12 (or 1.13? Not much differnce).
Ensure there is a language version the same as yours, and then upgrade. That's a complicated enough procedure, but follow the instructions carefully provided with the ROMs and you'll be ok.
The upgrade for more memory, is the BigStorage ROM hack. This will replace the area on your phone known as "Extended Memory", and convert it into more useful "Storage" that you can use. Basically, your phone gains 20mb of usable space. I've written an ENORMOUS post about this here (near the bottom of the screen)
To do BigStorage, you should use a tool floating around on the board that will patch ANY rom to BigStorage. That way, you can hack your own ROM for this. This is important because the first 400bytes or so of your ROM are unique to you, and you want to keep that. So I recommend:
1. Backup your PPC with Sprite backup or similar.
2. Upgrade your ROM to 1.12 (public sources or from the XDA Developers FTP site).
3. Make a backup of your ROM (optional, but advised).
4. Apply the BigStorage ROM hack.
You may be able to skip 4 if you can find the ROM you want at (2) already hacked. This is likely. But whatever you do, follow the instructions provided carefully. There are a couple of errors that are SUPPOSED to come up in the procedure. Read the instructions and you'll know what's supposed to happen.
Phew. It takes some learning, but you'll get there.
V
Hi Vijay,
You're great, many many thanks!! I assume I got a tough way to go. So I'll do it slowly so as to avoid mistakes.
My device' language is English, so no prob to upgrade with English. Now I guess I'll have to install manually the GPRS and WAP' parameters after upgrading, given the ROM does not come from my operator, isnt'it?
Orange M500 Upgrade
Hello. I too am thinking about upgrading my Orange M500 from 1.06.00 to the latest ROM. I have an Orange UK version of the phone. But 2 problems:
1. I have trawled all sites I can think of (including this one) and can't find an appropriate upgrade file anywhere - is anyone able to post a link?
2. I can't find anywhere that tells me what the advantages of upgrading are! Anyone fancy listing them?
Thanks!
Tom

Same here, I could not find information on what is improved (or not) with any of the existing ROM upgrades.
Surely they must be UP, but still it's strange there's no comment.
vijay555,
I am also fairly new with updating roms and such but I did manage to complete an update with the help of this amazing site and all of you guys out there. Your knowledge and advice has been wonderful and I thank all of you. Now, here is my question. I have a TMobile MDA from Germany I believe but with ROM ver 1.12.00WWE
Rom date 05/28/05
Radio ver 1.13.00
Potoc ver 1337.43
ExtRom ver 1.12.128 WWE
I have wanted to try the bigstorage rom but in reading all the posts and helpers I feel it is too much for me to copy to SD and yada yada yada. Am I understanding you correctly in assuming that in the xda FTP I would find a pre made bigstorage rom that I could upgrade onto my unit. I understand that I would probably have to re upgrade my radio unless there was a BS rom that had the latest radio in it. Would I be able to ask you that if I am right in assuming this do you know which of the roms I would use in the FTP site to give me that pre made BSrom and which "make" would or should I use(such as O2, orange) I line in Victoria, BC, Canada but I dont think that affects what "make" I should use, or does it? Sorry this is so long winded and I thank you in advance for your help.

German ROM avaible??

Hello,
I am quite new with my qtek 9000 and want to upgrade it to WM6 with GERMAN ROM and eplus is my provider.
I read a lot of this ver confusing stuff and tried to cook a rom from helmi: "helmi_uni_wm6_kitchen_r0".
All went good until I had to choose the operator and VERSION??? Also the language was not right WWD and not GER. And in addition, although I installed it to the right path (C:dev), the temp folder should have been created in c:\dev\helmi_uni_wm6_kitchen_r0\temp but it was always created in c:\dev\temp. I couldn't fix it...
So I guess it is the wrong rom, the installer said, wrong Version or wrong language.
Where can I find a good old german rom, that is stabile and has lots of enjoing things in it??
Or please tell me what I do wrong. I just can't be THAT difficult... or??
THANXXX a LOT for helping...
Thomas
Have all now...
After one weekend full of experiences I got one stable WM6 from dark..äh...uh my head... Lots of trouble, but know Im not just a newbie

Request: WM6.1 NL for Kaiser/TYTN II

It's on the cooked ROMs wiki, which is linked in sticky or the Kaiser wiki. All you need to do is scroll down to the very bottom of the cooked roms page.
I don't know if it's stable, but it seems like the only one that exists. Please reply in that thread if you have questions about it.
We're continuing to improve the info found in this forum by linking existing threads to the sticky and the wiki. Please try to use these resources and search before posting.

It's actually the *ONLY* Kaiser WM6.1 ROM in another language right now, afaik.
i am using the rom for over a month or so now and i can only say it's a really good rom.
verry stable and fast and a good clean rom for further cooking.
there was only one problem with it and that was the radio.
so i dont use the 1.64 something radio and changed it to the polaris radio wich gives alot better reception and batterylife.
im on the orange network by the way.
all things said this rom was better for me than all the precooked crab dutty keeps pushing out.
i really like to cusomize my own phone and dont want a cooked rom with alot of stuff i dont use.
all the taskbar enhancing programs like qmenu or wtask i really hate those things.
and i also got fed up uninstalling all the programs i didn't like on my phone.
with this clean rom i can add all the stuff i use and like.
and use the phone like i want to.
but there always are people that like a rom that just gives u all the functions and programs dutty's rom has to offer..
just my two cents

Have'nt had the chance to flash it yet. I'll give it a try this weekend. Will let you guys know. Anyone knows where to find the radio rom witch was spoken about in this thread?
Flashed my TYTNII yesterday with this rom. Using the build in radio rom on a t-mobile netwerk. Works like a charm. Does anyone know where to find a cab file for a dutch HTC Action screen? would be great. TNX
exept the fact that this is my first 6.1 rom, i must say that no thrills rom spins pretty stable. it's a bitt to clean if you ask me, but you have the freedom to dress it the way u like. maybe i should take some cooking lessons and play with this base rom.
It's a shame that there are not that many dutch roms. There should be more, maybe some tweaked, dutch roms.

You could be come a hero to us english speakers living in Japan. I love my S11HT and have been happy with emobile's coverage my area except for the emobile black hole at Shoppers Plaza in Yokosuka. But I am occasionally frustrated with the Japanese interface.

Can anyone please help ?
MODs could we move this thread to the Kaiser ROM developement section. Perhaps it would see a little more action in that area.
tim
sorry guys, i have been a bit busy ...
also i need a device (s11ht) to test the changes i made.
but just keep hoping
the last time i tried it, it didnt work but maybe is because i dont have a s11ht (i have a tytn2).
the radio of s11ht is different to the tytn2 one, (all commands .. all) because it needs to support the 1700 mhz band.
but at the moment, i got working some things (OS) on the tytn2.
just wait..
also, try to install a Diamond ROM into your s11ht and tellme what happens.
if nothing works, then we must wait for the xperia rom (because xperia supports the 1700 mhz band and should work with the s11ht Radio)
hehe
again sorry i was a bit busy (in the school.. hehe.. )
-Isay.

Sorry we were never able to get a copy of the original shipped ROM.
I can say on emobile the new radio is significantly better than the old one. I need to fix my sig.
Now we can make the Emonster english. I've tried this using both the L26_daimond and Hyperdragon III. The only thing I haven't been able to make work is display of Japanese Fonts. So if someones solves that life will be great. What you need to do:
First get hard SPL installed then
grap the 1.71 radio from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410953 Thanks to AllTheWay for ripping the radio from the newest Emonster ROM
Get one of the new cooked ROMS I have tried L26_Diamond and HyberDragon III the Augest 4 version
after installing the ROM Install the radio rom from the above thread and you now have a working EMonster with everything in English.
Still need to solve the Japanese font problem or you won't be able to read emails from your Japanese or browse Japanese sites.

If you install Askal's "Let's Japan No.6", you can read Japanese in English rom. It includes Japanese font as well. After you install it, you need to change keyboard layout with registry editor.
I have tried let's Japan No. 6 and when I install it I can not use the red and green telephone keys to start and end calls.

Hi. I have had the S11HT emonster for a year. I would like to change it to English but it seems like it requires a lot of knowledge that I don't have. Does anyone have any suggestions. I read the post

1. Install Hard-SPL
2. Choose english rom which you want and install it.
You can choose any cooked rom in this forum. But WM6.1 should be much easier to install Japanese font.
3. Install Askal's "let's Japan No.6"
You can search it with Google.
4. Get the cab file to fix keyboard problem

Hello.I bought a vodafone v1640 (1 hour ago.....so i am new ) italian. The gui who sod it said i can't put the wm6 on it but after all i read here it is possible.
It is written : rom version 1.30.106 ita, radio version 1.14.10, ext rom version 1.30.260 ita. I wish to put wm6 English version can you recommend me something and give me some instruction please?
Thanks in advance.
I also have a v1640, otherwise known as a Universal.
You certainly can load WM6 onto it, just not an official copy as that doesn't exist, but as there's no warranty to worry about so what.
Unforunantly many of those providing WM6 ROM's have moved onto newer toys..
At the moment your best bet is Tomal 8.2 (WM6.1) with a newer version being tested.
The most important thing is to read and learn before you do anything, but you've already got this far so you're halfway there.
Read the Wiki, make sure your 1640 is unlocked (supercid) and follow the instructions to upload the latest ROM. WM6 is so much better the WM5.
Happy tapping.
