Questions on Contact's Cateogry - General Topics

Hi
I am using O2 XDA Iii and have some questions hope some of you help me find out the answers:
1 / Is there any software that let us add / delete /rename categories for a group of contacts instead of doing manually one by one contact?
2/ I often store contact numbers as (+country code)+(number) such as: +8493xxxxxx. However when sync with MS Outlook, I noticed that number stored in MS Outlook alwayls as +84 9xxxx (there is a space between “+84” and “9xx”.
Is there any way to make MS Outlook store number without this space?
I ask this question because if I want to restore contacts on my PPC from MS Outlook then I have to manually delete this space. This take me a lot of time 
3/ Sometime when I backup contact with default xbackup and at later time, restore it, then all categories is not in same order as before. Some contacts lost category, others were with diffirent categories …. Can you let me know why and how to get rid of it?.
4/ In default Contact / All contacts -> we would see a popup window showing some categories. Some but not All. These categories can be found at more -> tab “Select”. While all categories found at more -> tab “Add and Delete”.
So the question is How can we bring all categories to this pop-up window? Or how we can let the tab “Select” show all category like tab “Add and Delete”?
Look forward to your help
Thank
Tuan

How to delete a category from categories list in WM5.0

When I create a new task in WM5.0 and choose a category for it, there are categories in there that I don't need and aren't assigned to any task, contact or appointment. How do I delete the categories I don't need from this list? The list of categories only has a New option and tap-and-hold doesn't give me a delete option.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm very interested in the answer. Nobody knows?
In WM2003 it seems not to be a problem, but in WM5 it is.
Best regards,
tomestos
Holy crap .... 9 months on and still no news on this subject. I guess this means making babies is a whole easier than deleting categoies in the Category List.
By the way, why don't the avatars of xda-developers.com keep questions like this in a separate box, like "Tough Cookies to Crack". Its been 9 months after all, and I would hate for this question to go down the line to page 932456456436463464 or something in this forum and remain unanswered.
An add-on to this thread is:
How do you rename/delete the default Categories under Contacts? The default Categories in question are:
1. Business
2. Holiday
3. Personal
4. Seasonal
Maybe it will help you ;
Try deleting from PC - MsOutlook and sync
OR
install Inesoft Address Book (commercial) and delete the categories you want then you can uninstall if you want, coz it's trial
I think I may have found the solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904670
The Workaround solution should be adapted slightly:
1. Create a new Contact item
2. Assign to it one of the Categories that you would like to delete
3. View the summary card of the new contact from the unfiltered category view
4. Delete the contact from the summary view
The Category should then be removed from the list.
had the same problem in the past...
solved it by installing pocket informant which can handle categories.

Windows Live Mobile Messenger contacts problem

windows mobile live messenger is syncing all the email contacts to my PPC contacts and its getting really annoying. I'm sick of scrolling through my contacts and seeing an entry like "Sek_C_girl_69" or some other crap like that.
I go through and delete the ones i don't want and add my friends emails under there appropriate contact info but they still keep appearing.
Anyone know of some tweak i can do that will not display contacts with only an email address?
You can use the builtin filter.
How?
Just as an FYI,
The next beta version will be MUCH improved in this area.
Don't forget, it's NOT a finished product, and doesn't necessarilly look like the final version. Lots of changes are upcoming.
(can't be more specific than this, sorry)

Go to your contacts application; Choose menu -> Filter and select all your categories. This should work.
I only have 'all contacts', 'recently viewed' and 'No categories' to select.
I've got the following options under filter : All contacts, Recently viewed, no categories, family, personal, colleagues, and more...
I guess i just got to put them all in groups, but then i can't select multiple groups like say i want to see Family, Personal, and Colleagues and not WMLM contacts...?
whats really pissing me off about it is in the SPB Diary plug in, it shows a couple picture contacts, then after that its just emails and i have to scroll forever to get to my real contacts.
They call that program a beta? Alpha at most. All the people I know who've tried it appear offline. (Windows XP/Vist versions) Seriously, bugs that big should be gone far before the "B-word" is used to describe the development stage.

Add contacts with category in one go

Hi all,
I'm not sure whether I missed something, but I find that I can add a phone number to Contacts from wm6 call history. However, it don't have the category field in the add contact form. And therefore I have to run my Contact manager (PocketInformant) to assign the category for this contact again. This is quite clumsy to me. Is there hack (on registry)/ any plugins that can helps?
Many thanks!

Android 2.2 FroYo - Sync all contacts but only display specific groups?

Anyone know if there is a way to do this?
I have 7500+ contacts both for business and my personal contacts.
I need all of them but only use specific groups on a regular basis. Is there a way to sync all the contacts but only show lets say Family, Friends groups in the contact list.
But when you tap menu > search and search for a specific name itll search through all of them and show the results? In other words hide specific groups but still sync them.
If this is in the wrong section please forgive me.. Its a general question and not device specific which is why i posted here.
Have you tried going to contacts...hit menu...then hit display options? I'm pretty sure it's the same as 2.1
If you have an Android phone from HTC with Sense, then what you request is standard functionality already in 2.1. You can tag your contacts, put them in respective groups (like family, business, vip) or even create your own ones.
The only problem I would see is the size of the contact storage with that amount of contacts. I have only about 450 contacts with minimal contact info, but the contact storage is already 13.7 MB.

Sync 'My Contacts', not 'All Contacts' w/Gmail

I've done a bunch of searching and can't find the answer for this phone.
Does anyone know how we can select just "My Contacts" instead of "All Contacts" with regards to syncing the Google contact list?
There's gotta be a way. I'm going to check the option to only show contacts with phone numbers but frankly, that option kind of sucks. There should be a better way to do this.
i have the same issue and can't find any setting to sync only My Contacts.
What is even more annoying is that it does not sync the groups i have set in google contacts

I can't find any options to add groups or add contacts to groups. I have only 2 groups listed - google and corporate with no options.
I think Touchwiz completely borked groups.
Yeah, it seems to be a problem with touchwiz because my buddy who's got an EVO has the option available.
Yeah, this is probably the only thing on the Captivate that I haven't been able to fix. It syncs every random Google contact I have, whereas other Android phones I've had would only sync the "My Contacts" group.
You can set contacts to only display people with numbers, if that helps.
You can create groups. Open Contacts then hit menu, create. Then when you open the group there will be an add member on the screen. For existing groups with members, you have to hit menu and then add member to add more.
The other thing is that I keep losing contacts randomly.
I don't understand why this is happening, it's quite frustrating

I still can't follow;
I open contacts and hit create and I get an overlay "save contact to" with 4 choices:
Phone
Sim
Corporate
Google
Only if i choose phone and scroll to the bottom is there an group field (shows unassigned).
EDIT - if i select the group i go to an empty box, but i can hit menu and create a group. Unfortunately every group or contact I create assigned to phone (not corp or google) becomes hidden. If I try to create group with the same name, it says it exists. Trying to create a new contact in "phone" still gives me empty group list.
So TouchWiz is hiding some stuff/data in the interface. Very bizarre.

I forget a step, sorry. You have to select groups after opening contacts.
I used the free AT&T Address Book feature on this phone to create all my contacts on the phone. I then have them linked to my Corporate contacts, Gmail and Facebook. This allows me to assign custom ringtones and manage my contacts using all the features of the phone.
To use the AT&T Address I had to export my contacts from Outlook to a CSV file. I then imported them via the AT&T website (addressbook.att.net). Now I have all my contacts as phone contacts and no longer have the SNS restrictions.
