I flashed my ROM and reinstalled an older backup from July 15 or so.
In the meantime I did syncs with my notebook. Maybe I don't quite understand the role of active sync but wouldn't my ActiveSync data of August contain my newer contacts, tasks, phonecall history etc. ?
Why then does AS always want to establish a new partnership and doesn't reestablish the partnership it had before with my PPC?
When I try to establish a partnership of that name (the PPC now has - same as ever) I'm told AS can't because such a partnership already exists.
?)
changing rom makes activesync freak out if you restore the backup from the old rom
you can always delete the old parthership if you want to have the same name you can backup the stuff in my doc\my pocketpc doc or what it's called

Hi!
I had my HTC Artemis (with WM6) synced with my Vista PC, all Contacts, Calendar data etc. were synced between Phone and PC.
then I set up my Vista PC completely new. (format C:, fresh vista Install)
Then I wanted to sync my contacts and stuff back to my PC, so i had a backup copy of all data. I established (bluetooth) ActiveSync connection to my PC and tried to get my device paired. it didn't work for some reason...
(I could actually browse the files on my phone, but i couldn't set up sync settings...) So i gave it up, and wanted to try it another time... and then i realized...
DAMN! ALL MY CONTACTS ARE GONE!!!!!
Thats a bit funny because a was worried that my contacts were only on my phone, so I wanted to sync with my PC to create kind of a backup, wich deleted them all! I'm starting to hate windows mobile!
Did enybody encounter a similar problem?
And what could be the reason i cannot sync?
Are you using Windows Mobile Device center or Activsync???
On Vista only Windows Mobile Device center works
I use Windows Mobile Device Center.
but when i open it there comes only a amall diagog titled "Connection settings"
where i can switch on and off bluetooth and usb connections
Hopefully you have a .pst file on your PC with the olod contacts.... would never do anything synching without a backup.

You could try "NS Contacts Backup 1.2" its freeware, might work with WM6 worth a try.
If not try spb backup, you can make a full backup of your PPC or of just your PIM data.
There's also PIMBackup by DotFred. It will also backup your SMS and emails.
Hi,
I have hundreds of contacts on my WM5 BA PDA, but something broke in Activesync and now I can't sync to outlook. I have lost my outlook profile.
I know I can create a new profile, but I think this will delete data on the PDA?
Is there a way to set up a new profile / connection to Outlook without losing the contacts on my PDA?
PS loss of calendar / other is not a problem, just contacts - no backup!
Thanks
[Edit]: Also: I have no backup utilty on the PDA like I did with WM2003.
in activesync there are settings for what activesync should do when outlook and the pda dont agree if all those are set to make my pc as my pda
then a new profile will never be able to delete your pda stuff
I'm pretty new to ppc's, so this may be a dumb question....
Recently the Outlook server at my office crashed and the guys at work had to format the whole thing. Now the Outlook on my desktop is basically empty, and I thought I could just sync my ppc and get all the contacts and calendar entries etc back to the desktop.
But when I tried, it says "there's been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. You may lose changes made since your last successful synchronization. Support code: 8600050d"
If I click "Yes" to continue, it'll wipe everything from my ppc. I've already selected the option for "If there's a conflict: Replace item on desktop".
What can i do?
I'm using HTC Touch Dual, and running Windows XP....Thanks....
I've seen this error when there is a time difference between the PPC and Outlook, as a result of traveling. In your case, is probably due to the server crash. You can try deleting the AtiveSync partnership and then create a new one. AS will ask you to select which info to keep, i.e. Outlook -> PPC, Combine PPC and Outlook or PPC -> Outlook. Just select the PPC overwrites Outlook at that point. HOWEVER, I don't know how will it handle PPC emails in subfolders (that is, will it create the subfolder structure in Outlook?). So, just to be save, do a PIM backup on the PPC before you try anything. Good luck.
PS,
Also, your IT guys should have a kept a backup!!! Or at least, setup your Outlook to use a PST file on your computer to store the information.
Thank you very much, it worked after I deleted the ActiveSync partnerships.
All my appointments are on my PPC (HTC P3650). Outlook on my PC is empty.
When I try to synchronize both (through ActiveSync), all appointmants on my PPC (!) will be deleted.
How to bring this appointments from PPC to my PC???????
Thanks for your answer!
Maybe you should delete the partnership on your PC and then reconnect. A new partnership will be made and there you can define the data to be synchronized. Normally it should ask how to synchronize and you should get the option to overwrite the data on your PC.
Hi guys,
I have a problem: After total system recovery (notebook), most info from outlook got lost already. Now the MDA touch PLUS (T-mobile) is the most recent backup from contacts and calender. Unfortunately that device already has two partnerships. I don't need any of these partnerships, but I need the data to remain at least for one sync. After that I am planning to hard-reset the mobile device anyways.
Is it possible to delete the partnership info from the MDA without losing the contacts/ calender?
Appreciate any answer!
rgds,
Thomas
Delete the two partnerships anyway. Save any data in the shared folders if used or required. When you create a new partnership you are asked if you want to merge or replace the contacts on the device.
Select Merge and the old contacts are still left there. Worst case scenario is that you end up with some or all contacts on the phone duplicated, and have to manually delete them.
Thanks, but I guess, you got that all wrong.
I have all the data on the device (MDA). So that must not be lost. So, when I now try to sync with freshly set up notebook, I have to transfer the device info to the computer. Then certainly computer has no partnerships and mobile device has two already (before connection).
So in order to sync (for the first time) I can only delete at least one of the existing partnerships from the mobile device and then create a new one with the notebook in order to sync.
hope that makes it clear!
Thanks for any answer!
Thomas
Deleting the partnership from either the PC or the device does not delete any data from the device. You can delete both, it doesn't matter. It is only when you create the new partnership that you will be asked if you wish to replace the data on the phone, with that on the PC. Select merge or replace PC data with that on the phone, and it will copy the phone contacts/calender across to outlook on the new PC. It is only if you select replace device data with data from the PC that you will end up in trouble.
you can always use data backup apps like PIM Backup 2.8 to save your contacts/messages/call logs/apps/tasks............... and then delete the partnerships and restore the backup.

Ok, you got there first this time.
Have had cause to use PIMBackup to save all PIM data when trying new push mail at work. The installation wanted to overwrite everything with my work's contacts/calendar/to-do. As these are diferent, or they were, all i did was backup, install the package, let the synch settle down so my PDA had all my work stuff only and then restore. It then proceeded to push everything up to the works system. Job done. Nothing got lost.
logic is bliss
