can any one help me make my mind up? :?
my old phone is a i mate sp3 with 1 gig card with tom tom 5 on etc,

Just a Re
Hello bodge, maybe i'm not a master but i'll try to help you.
Actually IIi and IIs not same.... not only the keyboar but also the other hardware.
IIs : Camera (noy mega pixel yet, but pic quality better than IIi), the processor of IIs is similiar with II (Intel PXA 263 400MHz), quad band ROM 96Mb. SDRAM 128Mb, ofcourse keyboard, bloetooth v1.1
IIi : 1,3 Mpix camera 9but as i said the quality worst than all XDA), Processor Intel PXA 272 520MHz, tri band, ROM 128Mb, SDRAM 128Mb, no keyboard, bluetoth v1.2
I think IIi still better choise, but there will be a new gadget from XDA run with WM5... whoa.... now the question is: Buy IIi or wait.... XDA IV??? :?:

Hi cornelius
Thanks for the reply.
im due my upgrade end of this week so not sure if to wait for the new xda to come out in the uk? could be months or is it due to be soon?
If not looks like the xda11i is the one then.

It's Your Choise
I think XDA IV need more than a month to be released, right now the i think the best choise is IIi, don't worry about pic qualiy just waith for ROM update.... Anyway if you buy a new IIi, would you like to send o2 email (from their email contac) to ask about upgrade WM5 for IIi, because they need sufficient request for releasing that WM5.
Ok, have nice experience with your new gadget...

xdaIIs vs xda-mini w/SD-wifi card

hi guys! just want your opinion/advise on this one. both products are available here at my place.
im a lot into the web thats why im really considering "wifi" function. i know that you might think -- why not go for the xda IIs with built-in wifi?. well, its because im also considering the 1.3 mega-pixel camera feature of the xda-mini. but then again, the xda mini has no sliding-keyboard which is a "cool" and useful feature.
so . . . . im left hanging what to go for?
i would really appreciate to know your comments. thanks in advance.
wait for a couple more month. There is a Dopod 699 which has all of what you wanted. same size as XDAII with 1.3mega pixel camera.
Dopod 699 is available in Asia now cost about USD$900.

xda2 himalaya wm5 update

hello, recently i posted asking if i should trade my blueangel for my dads himalaya.. i decided not to do this.. and to my bad luck the blueangel screen shattered due to my cousin punching it.. anyway i purchased my dad an upgrade t o universal and he in retrn gave me his himalaya.. anyway enough of the story... to the point...
----the point of this post----
im a windows mobile 5 wanter... i love the look and feel. but i hated the slowness of the blueangel version.. texts where imposible to write hence i downgraded. will it be the same on himalaya? or is there a massive difference in speed? will i be disapointed and want to downgrade to 2003? will i enjoy 2005? will text messages be fast to type like in 2003? wich is btter to use? 2003/2003se or 2005?
wich roms include media player 10?
thankyou
I am using my XDA II with a 1.60c ROM (64 MB RAM/ 64Mb RAMDisk), speed is really good, not a 100% (only 80-90%) the speed of WM2003 when opening a programm for the first time, but the advantages ar convincing.
Media Player 10 is integrated.
I tried 1.65b (96MB RAM), but although it is really fast, there are some instabilities, that made me switch back.
Typing speed is the same as it is in 2003.
My choice - still - WM5 - and take into consideration, that all developments (more or less) are concentrating on WM5 now, 2003SE seems to be the past.

Looking for buying an HTC handset but which one???

Hi,
I am a previous user of an HTC Blueangel and a SPV C500 when I was in France then I moved to UK where I choose a Blackberry 8700g but I am not feeling really happy with it.
I mean the Blackberry is a great handset in term of reliability and it is doing what it is supposed to. But it is not really a flexible. In fact, I found that the software range is really narrow and expensive. Also, I am missing the use of a stylus. However, the jog dial is really great.
Since I can use the MS Push mail with my company email, I am really thinking to switch back to a Pocket PC phone.
By the past, I really liked my SPV C500 but I don't think I can go for a Smartphone now, I think it won't be practical for writing email and so on.
To summarize I would be happy to have some people point of view of which handset would be the best for the following requirements (MS Push Email, I am not playing game, I am not using a GPS, I am using a Samsung bluetooth headset, listen to some music sometimes and watch some video sometimes, WIFI, sliding keyboard would be appreciated, possibility to use Skype or other VOIP system if possible.....).
Any help is much appreciated.
Finally, I have some newbie question:
- Is anybody using his Pocket PC with T-Mobile Web n walk in UK?
- If the device is not AKU is it possible to upgrade it to have this functionality (maybe flash firmware)?
- Does web n walk allow the use of MSN on T-Mobile UK Web n walk?
- For the MS Push Mail is it enough to have a data plan (like Web n Walk)?
Sorry for the long post. But I am a bit lost.
Thank you very much for your help.
Julien
I think the new TyTn / Hermes will be perfect for you.
Sliding keyboard, AKU 3.0 with all it's goodies, WIFI G, BT 2.0 400MHZ processor and 2MP camera as a bonus (+ VGA camera for video calls).
I am not on T-MBILE but I can answer a couple of your questions:
1) All WM5 devices manufactured today come with at least AKU 2.0 newer devices come with AKU 3.0 and up. Some older devices get updates from the manufacturer but not all.
2) All you need for push mail is internet access (GPRS / UMTS / WIFI) and an Exchange server on the other side.

Oops. My mistake, somehow I remembered seeing it with the green windows screen.
Still I liked it from the brief experience I had with it.
How is it working out for you?
The T-Mobile version of the Hermes is the MDA Vario II
Just in case you didn't know...
Thank you guys for the information.
Indeed I think I will go for the Hermes. The only problem might be the budget.
What about he MDA Vario (i.e. Qtek 9100) is it good? I am a bit worried since the processor is only 200Mhz.
I will try to see if I can trade my blackberry against a Hermes or another one (with complement maybe).

It's pretty good - see for example my game reviews, where I also elaborate on the given title's playability on the Wizard.
hi julien
check ebay and see what price you can get for your old phones.better than trading in !

Get the Vario II (Not the Vario)
Vario = Wizard = 200MHz
Vario II = Hermes = 400MHz

Orbit 2 vs. Stellar

Hi,
I'm currently using the O2 Orbit (original) phone, and have really enjoyed my time with it. HOwever, I am now due an upgrade
I am debating between the Stellar and the Orbit 2. I don't miss the keyboard on the Orbit (had the Mini IIs prior, which had keyboard of course), but I wouldn't be too depressed to have one. As far as I can see, there's not much to seperate the two phones, but from user experience, which one would you buy, and why?
(or can someone think of any other alternatives?)
A.
Hi,
I found the Kaiser (o2 Stellar) very bulky, that's why I changed. Also fm radio on orbit II, better touch flo experience. Check out the new ppc's from the Barcelona WMC2008. maybe u ll find something worth waiting for. but in any case, i don't think they will be in stock with any operator soon enough for ur upgrade. i d go for the orbit II.

I'm slightly worried about the Polairs' video driver issue... or is this not so much of a problem?
kaiser and polaris suffer from the same driver thing
people report that htc have bulged and will pay qualcom for the driver
they so far been too cheap to pay for
otherwise another possiblity could be other devices comming out using the same chip
like toshiba
Definitely go fot the Polaris, man! I'm tellin' ya
It's slimmer, more solid, and pretty And if you don't miss the keyboard of the Mini S (heh, I also had one, then changed it for a Neo (Prophet) and didn't miss the keyboard ), the Polaris is maybe the best PPC out there.
My opinion - BioTouch is much better than an old touch screen combined with a hw keyboard. And with the number of the input apps out there, it's the ultimate choice.
Tried Opera 9.5 yesterday - amazing. This browser makes your PPC the ultimate mobile internet device and combined with the BioTouch it simply rocks!

WM Rom for Samsung Jet

Hello all,
Someone knows if there is a wm rom for the Samsung S8000 (Jet)
I like to hear about it, and i know that this forum is mostley related to HTC phones..
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks
Greetings
Alex
Welcome to forums
As here we dedicate only to HTC devices you won´t get too much atention, however in off topic there is a thread regarding samsung (another model)
or better try here:

Good luck,
I am suprised noone has attempted to cook a WM Rom for this one, it's just like the Omnia II except small and lighter

Samsung JET have a Samsung OS - so there is no way to cook a Windows Mobile ROM for it.
you mean it's impossible to replace Samsung OS with WM? I am sure it's possible. Has anyone looked into it? What are the obstacles preventing that happening. Is it fundamental?

I agree. I don't see a reason.
Saying that this is not a WM device is not valid. You can load other OS in your phone if it supports the hardware and the loader interface. If the hardware is so similar, it's a matter of analysis...
If I had one, at least I'd try to flash a OmniaII rom (phone+boot+pda).
I'll contribute $$ to the cooker that could provide such ROM for the Jet s8000.
Cheers
One more contributor here! 50USD for someone that cooks a Jet WM ROM.
I bought one to my wife. The phone is great and I would definitely have one if a Windows Mobile ROM is avaliable...
btw... it has the exact same processor and general specs as the Omnia II
About processors i'm not sure... But OMNIA II have 256Mb RAM vs 128Mb in JET. Maybe there also different radio modules (GSM/UMTS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and different video controllers.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english

i'll contribute another 50 USD if there is a winmo rom for this phone
i think there would be alot in interest here, particularly since many xda users would happily flash a WinMo rom if it were available!
I have recommended this model to my brother and he loves it, his previous phone was the N95. Now to get the Jet to WinMo!:
