I want to be able to play ogg files in media player on my XDAIIi, is this possible? If not, then I see there are a plethora of media players out there, Which would be most similar to media player to use?

ps I want ogg support as I believe it is the best quality codec for small files, please let me know if anyone has any opinions on this? or better codecs?

not 100% sure but i dont think mediaplayer from ms on pocketpc can use external codecs
it only really likes ms's own formats and then it does mp3 too but otherwise it's pretty poor supportwise
The old BetaPlayer as it was known back then is great features wise, but not very slick.
I think that PocketMusic is a great alternative, or perhaps at least for BP to be used as well as a commercial program.
The Bundle version of PM plays OGG files as well, amongst others.

Hi to everyone.
I am searching for an good mp3 and eventually aac player. windows media player is nice for a few songs but I really hate the way you use the libary (the way you need to change one directory up for other artist etc with you stylus).
tcpmp is nice for movies but not for mp3 playback with more than 50 songs - or am I wrong?
i have heard of ppod but development is frozen and i dont know if i should try it?!
what do you use and what can you recommend?

Just back my O2 Atom Exec and updated it to WM6. I have an extensive collection of loseless audio and i was curious as to which media player supports it. They are in a couple of format, with most of them being in .wv and .ape and the rest in .flac.
I have installed Coreplayer and Pocket Player 3.2 and tried .wv and .flac files.
Coreplayer plays .flac fine but the library kind of sucks and it ain't easy to browse through your collection of music. However, it wont detect the .wv file.
Pocket Player on the other hand simply wont work with either despite claiming on the website that it does. I have tried opening the .flac audio manually but the name of the song (time after time) becomes illegible (like with my chinese song) and when i try to play it, it doesnt work. It says the filetype is .mp3 but that is not true, it is actually .flac....what the?? Also tried to manually open .wv but doesn't work either
So i am confused as to which program actually does work with all the lossless format? Could someone enlgihten.

that had all the supported player that claims to support loseless format.
Also, could someone explain why i cant read chinese/japanese filenames? Any fixs so i can see it properly on pocketplayer/coreplayer?

Sorry mate, I used to play flac using TCPMP( free version of coreplayer) was impressed with the sound but not the size of the files. sticking to AACplus now, good luck

Music file size ratio is generally a personal preference and you dont just go 'haha' on others preferences. If bigger memory card is not your problem, I'd guess you can always play the high quality lossless WAV on your WMPlayer
Anyway, not much help from me here, read on if you wish.
Anyway, as for lossless or not audio file format, I really wonder how much difference does it make. I personally can't really tell the difference as I'm using relatively low quality earphones and stuff, and consider I listen it when I'm on the move, where you get street noises and such (despite the noise isolation property of the earphones). So, it would be interesting if you were to do a blind test yourself on a relatively real environment. That, is to get a list of songs, say 10-20 songs, all both in the flac, and mp3 formats. Get a friend of you to play you these songs at random (using Coreplayer, which support both format), then you make a guess on which format the song is playing. Get a good number of samples and see if you score above 75%. If you score around 40-60%, chances are, you are thinking (mentally biased) that the sound is actually better than it is (e.g. due to the distortion of the A2D converter, crack in the shielding screen on your headphone, street noises, etc.). If you were to score 25% or lower, that's interestingly MP3 is better (much unlikely).
If you really do this, let me know the results Much eager to know it.
Problem for me is, I am the type who like to have just one device to rule "do" them all, that's why my lowly wizard does it all, my video player, music player, pda and telephone. I only got 2Gb but I got heaps of songs on it plus some movies.
AAc plus is good mate better than MP3 IMHO, I heard flac but the size is just not worth it.. and I don't clean my ears that often ;-) so why bother..

I've been searching through the forums for the possible video players available for my TP. I've so far only found two (other then windows media player).
Core player http://www.coreplayer.com - Which from the site seems to play a decent amount of file types. Have not heard performance wise how this stands up. Also unfortunately has a cost associated.
Divx player http://labs.divx.com/MobileCommunity- Which I've looked at and is by no means a one player fits all. Only can play divx files.
Are there any other players out there that are free that are a one-stop-shop?
Or are their codecs for the windows media player? (have not been able to locate any)

TCPMP was the open source media player that spawned the Core Player.
I think you can still get it. Sure its probably not up to date like Core Player, but it does play everything you need it to play.

Install and use TCpMP player instead of HTC original music player. Works perfect with all kind of audio, video and pic files.

Not that I know of. Anyway Pocket Player also supports plugins and you can download tha ape and flac ones from the Conduits website.

Yes, but isn't there any way to make the plugins work with the original media player, because i really like the tab player of the HD2, fits better to the whole device than a third party player and I don't want to start installing millions of apps to be able to open each file, I mean isn't it better to find a way to make it more simple and don't have to full up the memory and the registry of the phone?

I'm in to Flac, and happy that a few current Froyo ROM's now support imaginatively. Never cared for Andless and Meridian. Anyways, as far as WMA I saw this searching. I have NO IDEA of quality or if it works.

I tried that a while ago. It does but the player is VERY buggy and doesn't support any type of playlists or playing more than one file at a time.
Yah, I wish I'd have ripped all my CD's in FLAC but because I was a WinMo fanboy and I use Windows at work, I saw no reason for anything but .WMA.
The HTC devices (sold by HTC) support .wma. I'm figuring it's a codec of some sort to add that functionality back to the stock media player. I need to read up on adding FLAC support to the stock ROM and maybe I can pick up how to do it with .WMA as well.

You can convert .wma to .flac pretty easily with foobar2000. I'm assuming of course that the OP has ripped everything in lossless .wma and not compressed .wma, otherwise using .flac would be pointless. If you have a huge collection of lossless music, it would be a good idea to do this to your entire collection anyway for the sake of compatibility in the future.
The other option if you're sticking with a stock N1 ROM is to convert everything to lossless .wav, which has native support in the stock ROM. For that process, you can download the Windows Media Audio Lossless to Wave Converter directly from Microsoft.
