Hi there
I am running a Himalaya with WM2k 160.b.
I have a well organised .mp3 collection and artwork is located in every folder called 'folder.jpg'.
When I sync to my Himalay though, the artwork dosent sync.
If I manually copy ANY 'folder.jpg' to the same directory, the image does display in WMP10 mobile, regardless of weather it is the acyual artwork or a picture of my cat!.
So, the problem is not the device, just WMP10 on my XP machine.
How are we supposed to sync then? Even if I am only syncing individual tracks, I still want the artwork to be copied. How can this be done?
I also went into iTunes and removed all the embedded artwork I had as this was interfering with my MCE machine too.

Hello,
I'm having a problem with the displaying of cover art in Media Player Mobile. Using Windows MediaPlayer10, I attached cover art to my MP3 files (which is now embedded in the MP3 files). When synchronizing with my HTC TyTN and playing the files back in MediaPlayer Mobile, the artwork is displayed for some files, but not for others.
It is displayed for all the first tracks of each CD, and it is displayed for some specific albums.
My original artwork wasn't all the same size; I'll check if this might have anything to do with it. What are the limitations imposed by MediaPlayer Mobile on embedded jpg files in MP3s?
Thanks!
Jörg
try this
you just have to put all the songs of the same album in one folder, then rename the jpeg file of the album art to folder.jpg then you'll have it on...
Make sure you extract the album art from the files with the desktop WMP. Very few players (most notably, LGC Jukebox) are able to display embedded images.

iron1:
Do you mean on the desktop, or on the mobile?

What do you mean 'extract'? (I'm using Windows Media Player Mobile, and like to keep using it.)
For what it is worth: WMP Mobile currently displays the artwork all tracks on a CD if all tracks are by the same artist; it only displays the artwork on the first track for compilation CDs (tracks by various artists). The artwork is a jpg file which I dragged to the "paste here" icon of an album (in album view) in Media Player 11.
Using the advanced tag editor, I can see that the images are embedded in all tracks (allthough: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/windowsmobile/faq.aspx#5_6 ).
I checked the folder structure of my Music folder and may have been wrong in assuming that WMP Mobile displayed the embedded artwork: for CDs by the same artist, there is a Folder.jpg along with the tracks; this is not present in the folders of the tracks of compilation CDs (only for the first track). I guess the question has become: how can I get this Folder.jpg to appear for every track of a compilation CD...
I'll try this weekend to put the cover for a CD in the same folder as the tracks and name this file "folder.jpg" on the PC; and then see what happens when I synchronize.

Ok, I restored my backup copy of my MP3 files (the back has no embedded artwork).
Strangely enough, when I tried to put a "Folder.jpg" file in the folder of a CD album, I get an error message stating that this file already exists. IT DOESN'T (hidden and system files are shown). I suspect this is because MP11 has a jpg file associated with the album.
Either way, even without the embedded artwork, the behaviour is exactly the same: for compilaton CDs the cover is only synchronized for the first track; for CDs by one artist the cover is shown for every track.

Hi all, Im using a HP hw6900 series as my primary mobile device and I must confess that pimping Windows Mobile devices is fun. So far I've been using Pocket Player as my music application but I've just installed S2P which seems to have a nice album art Cover Flow features. However, most (90%) of my songs have no album art embedded. For those other songs which have album art, they were already 'there' when I transferred them over to my memory card.
How do I embed album art into my songs and using which software (presumably using Windows Media Player?)?
Thanks in advance for the help
Just make sure your Album Covers are updated, at least there, in WMP on your PC, and sync your music files through it, it's quite possibly the most simple thing on earth.
If you have an album on your WMP library you can just drag an image onto it and it will "merge" it automatically.
You can also just add a folder.jpg image with the cover to the directory of each album, s2p will read it
Thanks, I used the folder.jpg method and it works... yay I love my flowing covers now thanks again
to literally attach them into you're (mp3?) files youc could use mp3tag (free) on PC, after which they are in the files, no need for folder.jpg etc. so you can just copy files as files on a memory stick, rather than syncing slowly.
EDIT: Figured it out. Besides, screw using windows media player. S2p, Nitrogen, much more finger friendly. Thanks anyways.
I cannot sync my desktop WMP11playlist to windows mobile media player. This is how I accces and listen to online radio streams. Within WMP11 i have created many .wpl playlists files of various radio streams. I would like to sync these playlist of radio streams to my windows mobile. I want to be able launch windows mobile media player and be able to play the radio streams saved as playlist. Specifically, I have saved a sky.fm radio stream as a playlist in desktop WMP11 and it shows as a playlist in my playlist folder as "sky.fm (80's).wpl." Under playlist in WMP11 it shows this playlist as "sky.fm (80's)." I select the playlist, drag it to the sync bar and then select sync with device. Less than a second later it shows "sync completed." However, in the corresponding folder in my windows mobile nothign shows and thus I cannot play the .wpl playlist file with windows mobile media player. It does not appear to sync the playlist.
I thought I would try to copy over my desktop playlist folder with this "sky.fm (80's).wpl" file into my windows mobile device and the storage card. In both place I see this folder; however, when I slect the file to play, It says something to the effect of no program is asscoaited with that file type.
Why is this? Does the windows mobile media player not allow sycning of playlist between desktop media player and mobile? Is it because the mobile version cannot play/recognize .wpl? If so, then why does it say "sync completed" on the desktop side?
Any help would be appreciated or workaround. Also, I am aware of other apps that allow me to access radio streams for my mobile, but those do not meet a requirement i have. I save radio stream playlist because they allow me to access them via 7MC (media center), WMP11, and was hoping windows mobile media player. Thats my end goal.
Well, found the answer. Apparently windows mobile media playter cannot not play .wpl playlist files of streams that the dektop version saves.
So if you use Windows Media Player and Sync song files to the to the Charge will they automatically save to the SD card...my last phone had a setting where you decided where you wanted stuff saved. Internal vs. SD..does this setting existin in the stock charge UI? If so where?
Drop the music wherever you like on the SD card. Android's media scanner will take care of the rest.
Cooll..I did this...worked Great..but it didn't sync any of the Album cover jpgs..instead every Album on my phone has this Stupid different color bubble jpg next to each Album..Anyway to change this?
The problem is that you have album cover JPGs as separate files. Are you coming from iTunes? The way to fix is to embed the album art into the mP3 files themselves. This can be done with an ID3 tag editor such as http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ (free). If you have ripped CDs you can process whole albums at a time and it will import the album art from amazon or freecd databases on the web, and mash the picture right into the mp3s.
They are ripped CDs on my laptop...all I did was take them all drag them over to synch folder and the phone and Windows Media Player did the rest...so how would do this? Won't the ripped CDs have the pics inbedded in the wave files or whatever.
I didn't even associate the Album cover with the Albums Windows Media Player did automatically...so naturraly I thought if I just dumped them in the synch folder it would synch everything. So how do I do this?
well i do pretty much what you do, but i create an autoplaylist called androidsync which automatically adds everything to itself, then just always sync that playlist.
What you're doing should work - curious. ID3 tagging would definitely fix it though.. depending on how much music you have it can be a pain.
I am looking for some clarification on how Android generates the Music DB and in particular how it displays track and album info and artwork. Right now I have some music in a "Music" folder on the root of my sdcard. There are several tracks directly in that folder, and some others organized into subfolders by artist or album. I'm having several problems getting the info to display properly.
My first issue is album artwork. Does Android display artwork that is embedded in the file? Some of them are showing up correctly and some are showing album covers from other tracks. Some of the things I've read suggested that everything be organized in folders by Album and to have an AlbumArt.jpg in each folder. While this is doable, I haven't gotten around to reorganizing my library and would rather the phone just read artwork from the file. I have checked the id3 tags of some of the problem tracks, both with an app on the phone, and from my pc, and everything (including artwork) looks fine. Both the stock music player and several 3rd party players are displaying the information incorrectly and identical so it seems to me like Android is caching the data incorrectly. I've tried to delete the albumthumbs folder on the sdcard as well as Settings->Manage Applications->Media Storage->Clear Data. It just gets regenerated incorrectly.
I think this is related to my next problem. It seems like the tracks that do not reside in their own album folders and sit directly in the Music folder are having the most problems. In particular the songs where there is no Album field in the id3 tags. The phone seems to think these all belong to the album "Music" - must be resorting to looking at the containing directory if no album is found in the tags. What's odd is that even though it thinks several tracks belong to this Music album, its now showing the same artwork for each of them.
What is the ideal way to organize music for playback on Android? Would sorting everything info folders by Album solve my problems? Do I need to make sure I don't have any blank Album tags?
On a side note, is anyone familiar with how iTunes stores its Album art? I'm looking for an easy way to maintain consistency between my iTunes library and what is on my phone. I'm thinking of developing a small application that can scan both libraries and detect differences to keep them synchronized. All of my music is on my old Macbook which I hardly use, but I listen to it pretty much exclusively on my Android phone. The problem is we also have an iPad that I'd like to keep the music on so I can't ditch iTunes entirely.
Thanks for any advice.
