I have a Pocket PC Phone Edition (T-Mobile) Win Mobile 2003. Every time the phone loses contact with a tower then re-establishes contact the darn Pocket PC turns itself on! This happens mostly when I am driving, but occasionally happens while sitting still someplace. Every time I have called T-Mobile about this they have had me check settings and so on, then they decide it is a problem with the phone and send me a new one. I'm on my 5th phone and it is still doing the same thing. It is a hassle copying all my programs, setting it up etc. Is there anything I can do to stop it from turning itself on like this?
TIA

p.s. how do I find out model, ROM and radio versions? I need to update my profile with the correct info. THANKS!

Like in topic.
It turns on mostly durning incomming call.
I've found some information about this issue on other forums.
Propably coused by enabled DirectPush. When phone starts a call, the EDGE connection is interrupt. Sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after few second, Wifi turns on.
Theroy says - DirectPush force wifi to get connected.
It's not happend after soft reset with Wifi off. It happends when Wifi was enabled and disabled before manualy.
This is annoying of course...
Is someone experince this same issue with Raphael? Maybe there is some solution? I like to be "as item arrive" connected...
I have the same issue...using the Proven 14a WWE. During the incomming call the WiFi is turning on. Anybody can help?
Thanks
J.
Same here, started when I installed GB-SOFT tweak to disable data connection after x minutes idle. Wifi turn on when I make or recieve a call, data connection is of when I start the caal and durring the call my TP checks my business mail (set to check account every 5 minutes). Probably caused due to the fact that TP is forced to check my mail but cannot open GPRS or UMTS connection because of the call.
If I set GB-SOFT tweak to always connect to the data network I dont have the issue. So my temporary solution is to stay connected to the network, it at least drains the battery less compared to WiFi.
I've got the same issue. I think it does have something to do with direct push set up for exchange. There really isn't much on the forums (or at least I am having a tough time finding anything) in the way of resolving this. Some were saying that it is a "feature" haha. No thanks!
Well...yesterday I tryied several ROMs..Lantis, ROMeOS, Elite...so far so good at the end I turned back to Proven..however after that jugglin' with ROM's I don't see the WiFi turning on accidentally again...just guessing, maybe it is just some bug during loading process..when you try again you might be lucky ..worth tryin'
cheers
It would help if everyone stated the ROM and Radio as well as other basic information when posting problem reports.
Well, I have ROMeOS 1.60.2 with .28 radio.
I've had this problem on my Hermes as well.
Im 100% sure, that is caused by active DirectPush.
It's just trying to stay connected during phone call and forces wifi to start and connect.
It's very annoying, but i don't think there is solution for this.
Here its stock ROM and radio .20M1. It definately has something to do with trying to make a data connection wile on a call. For me it is however not when I am always connected but when I set "make a connection every 5 mins". Since I changed to radio .20M1 did not experience the WiFi popup, but this can also be because I selected the always connect.
Furthermore I beleive it has something to do with some programme installed lately because I did not see this phenomen the first few months. But what is it ......
OK sorry for that I should mention it earlier...
I have Proven 14a
Radios tested .19, .28, .32 - everywhere the same issue...since yesterday when I wrote my last post I saw it only once! Which is pretty good...till that time it was happening every call.
cheers
Come on guys. it's very simple. If you have defined direct Push "as item arrive", and you turn on than off your wifi, than it's almost for sure that you will have this issue. it's not connected with radio or rom. it's just wm bug.....
the outlook is downloading emails every 15mins...the Push is turned off...how should I setup the outlook to use only GPRS/EDGE connection and not use the Wifi if the GPRS is not available during call?
thanks
J.

I'm not sure what you mean here exactly. Are you saying that you have a VPN set up? If you did something specific to fix this issue, I'd be very interested in getting more of a step by step, because this is driving me nuts.
Okay, no idea what's going on with my phone here. Whenever I connect to the internet through any application, HTC weather, Opera, streaming radio, not a problem. It connects without issue. However, sometimes I get this message on my screen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/clewis4u91/3737272578/
I have no idea why this comes up. I have no problems connecting! I have automatic weather updates off, Windows Update set to manually check (however it stopped working a month ago anyways), QuickGPS isn't set to automatic either, as well as my email. Something is trying to connect at some point, but isn't able to.
Normally it wouldn't be a big deal for me, however here's why it's bothering me. This has happened TWICE so far in the past week, disconnecting phone calls. This seems to be happening randomly. I was on a phone call, and I didn't hear anyone talking so I looked at the screen, and that message was displayed. The next day, the same thing happened while on a phone call, to a completely different phone number. Soft reset does not solve the issue.
I have done absolutely no changes to my device or it's settings. I can connect to the internet whenever I want, so the connection settings have to be okay? Doing a quick Google search basically showed me that the people getting the same error, were unable to connect altogether, which is not the case for me. I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.
Sorry, I left out some phone information. I'm running on a Bell (CDMA) HTC Touch Diamond on Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 using stock ROM.
(This is not device specific errors.)
HTC HD7, used for 2 months. From 2 days ago. basically stopped connecting to WiFi networks with NEW names. As soon as taping on the new network, it goes to 'connection unsuccessful' error instantly. (Not even trying to connect), while my other devices working fine on these networks. The phone is actually able to connect to any other wifi network it had previously remembered (SSIDs like linksys, netgear, even other hotel wifis, coffee wifis,). I have tried at least 10 different new wifi network, the phone simply refused to connect..
Note with 'secured network', phone asks for a password, but as soon as taping 'done', error message appearing straight away (connection unsuccessful, note, if typed wrong password, does give a different error, 'invalid password') and ask to retype password. Note, this is not due to wrong password, the password has been thoroughly tested.)
Any ideas?? I have been travelling a lot with my phone these two months. Like 10 different cities...imagine the number of wifi profiles saved in my phone?? like 100+?? The windows phone give up on me?? Comeon....my iphone has not done that in 3 years....
Additional note, the tested networks are 802.11b/g not n. So should be fine......
Since this HALF BUILT windows phone 7 SW does not have other useful menus that allow me to explore a bit further in the phone. All I can do is just restart wifi, phone.....I do not want to reset..BTW, the SW does not offer reset setting option...only reset whole phone.....?
Possible solution:
1. I have read through this forum. Looks like it is possible to play with the registry files (to remove some of the wifi profiles)?
2. When I get home, I will change my home router to the SSIDs that the phone might have connected to and delete them when they pop up to free some space. This way, I should be able to verify my theory!
If you long press a remembered wifi profile, you get the option to delete it
Yes, of cuz. But u have to let the remembered network to appear in your list in the first place? How do you do that when u r travelling around?
This is just ridiculous.
I am seeking methods outside what I mentioned above.
Waiting for someone to help here...
I have tried to change my home network SSID to those the phone had previously remembered and made some discovery.
Basically the phone is able to connect to thos old SSID given they are unsecured. I was also able to delete those profiles...
However, here is the however, after deleting several old profiles, I still was not able to connect to new wifi network...And what was worse, after restarting the phone, I cannot connect to the previous SSID I have just deleted....
Basically, the phone has stopped accepting new Wifi profiles....This is some serious software bug.

I imagine Microsoft tech support would care if you called them.
The only thing you can try is to hard reset.

I didn't realize we worked for MS. Like most severe smartphone problems, you need to hard reset. If you talk to MS support they will tell you that, if you call the OEm, they will tell you that as well.
edit: and how do you know this isn't device specific?
The OP is correct. There is no way to delete remembered wifi networks without actually being in its vicinity. I have had this problem. Sometimes, a soft reset fixes the problem. Other times, I delete the network, then try reconnecting. Other times, if the router is accessible, a quick power rest fixes the problem. Also, sometimes, connecting to another network, deleting it, and then reconnecting back to the desired network solves the problem.
However, there are times that the wifi simply refuses to connect no matter what.
This looks more like an software problem. But I should not have said it is not a device specific problem 100%.
Till today, I have used Tune to backup my pictures...but have not decided to reset it yet. Cuz a lot of things need to be manually restored..
I think I will wait for the first important update come out and see if that fixes anything.
All of these arises because the OS is like a rush job, a lot of functions and menus simply does not exist.....
My phone still refuses to connect to ANY NEW wifi network. Including the one it remembered (if I delete them)
This problem has not been solved still. Just wondering is any body else having the same problem?
just ride off wp7, go for android htc desire hd,this thred will go for soooooooo many pages until you get solved your problem.please dont waist your time here like me.
This problem has been FIXED with March update!!! Now the phone runs faster and there are heaps of apps. Now I am waiting for flash and skype api etc...
Hi there.
Just got a new HTC Titan on WP7.5, and it has come to my attention that annoyingly, whenever I try to download anything from the Marketplace through 3G, it sticks on the "Downloading..." screen. However, when I attempt to do this via WiFi, it downloads without trouble. I've had a look at a couple of threads with this same problem and there doesn't seem to be a true fix available for Windows Phone users. I've tried hard resetting the handset to no avail, and it's worth noting that the content I'm attempting to download is under 20mb.
Secondly, I seem to be having a problem connecting to Facebook/WLM Chat; on 3G, it connects successfully, displays online contacts and receives messages. Only problem being that, given about 30 seconds, it will randomly disconnect me. This leads me to have to resync both my Facebook and Live account for the chat to work again... for another 30 seconds.
Again, this works flawlessly when done through Wi-Fi - so you're most likely thinking that it's down to the network, right? Well, the browser works just fine on 3G at all times, so I'm unsure whether to blame the ISP for this one.
Any help would strongly be appreciated.

Can no-one actually offer any type of solution here?
Hi all,
I have a Nokia Lumia 900.
Does anyone know how to keep MSN online all the time?
Most of the times, when I go into "messaging" it says connecting and it does after a couple of seconds. I thought it should be connected all the time.
It seems it disconnects when I go back to my start up page or when the phone goes into stand by mode.
I searched, thoroughly, into settings... can't seem to find an option.
Thank you for any help.
you can either
1. use ur 3G
2. connect to ur charger/computer
to keep the internet connection going (or else it wouldnt be connected with ur wifi if u switch the phone off)
3. Download the app spotify, go into login screen. And just press windows key to keep using it. When u turn off the phone, the connection stays on.
This is a glitch/bug in the system and is not suppose to work like that.
Thank you for the fast reply.
My 3G is always on. However, the coverage isn't always good.
I downloaded spotify. Doesn't seem to work
Thank you anyway.
