WorldMate Pro 2005 - Where is the data stored? - General Topics

Hi,
I am using WorldMate Pro 2005 on a XDA III (Blue Angel) and after making extensive changes to the packing list, my system developed a problem (Pocket Outlook would no longer start) and the only solution was to do a hard reset and reinstall the software.
After reinstalling WorldMate Pro, the standard packing list was back and all my careful work setting up my own items was gone. As I had copied all the files from the previous installation to my PC, I then started looking for some configuration file containing all my changes. I found the standard entries in wmproresources.dll but the changes were not stored in that file. In fact I could not find any files containing my updates and the registry did not help either.
Does anyone know where this data is stored and how I can restore it to my XDA III?
Regards
Peter

is their a (Pimbackup.pib) extractor?

dear all!!!
really it's so hard to restore many pimbackup.pib files on a device...
i have been searching for an extracor, or kind of emulator that alow me to view the backuped file on my pc...
thankyou
best regards...
moiisse
If I remember correctly, you can rename the .PIB file as a .ZIP and then look at it with your "favourite archive tool".... Within the ZIP/PIB file there are loads of CSV format files for each of the messages/contacts/phone logs etc.
The only problem may/might/will be if you did the PIM backup in binary format; your best bet would be to post on the PIMbackup thread (here) and see if Dotfred or anyone else can help
Cheers,
Mark.
Dear Mark
I have tried this trick but the files I got were not .CSV one some other extension files. I am afraid if I am doing anything wrong.
The extension is not .CSV, but they are in CSV format. If you rename them to .CSV and open them with Microsoft Excel or Openoffice Calc (or whatever), they can be imported as semicolon delimited files (so strictly speaking, they're SSV - "Semicolon Separated Values" rather than CSV )
Hope that helps,
Mark.
That was a great tip!
Any idea how to import these into an Android Phone - just got an HTC Hero today. Took a backup of my existing contacts, sms etc from WM6.5 (HTC Touch HD) and could see the .pib (renamed as .zip) and individual files (which I renamed as .csv)..
Guess there might be a simple trick to restore them as well in HTC Hero?
I think I may have found something........

I was about to say I have no idea and I don't really care (about Android phones that is, not your problem getting your messages onto your Hero!), but then.......
I found this - Sprite Software's FREE (at the moment) migration software - which looks like the answer to your prayers
I've seen a report from someone who used it - apparently, it's pretty slow, but as it's a "one-time" transfer operation.....who cares how long "free" takes!!!???
Let us know how you get on - and post something in the Android-related forums so that other users can benefit.....
Cheers,
Mark.
(At times like this, I wish I had a Paypal "donate" button.....this gem of wisdom is surely worth a buck/quid/euro or two ....Ho hum!!!)
Excellent! That seems to be promising!
Just tried using that and tried to restore only the sms on my android, however it gave an error. Have emailed sprite software the relevant log file, lets see if they come up with the reason of failure. Guess it might have something to do with the threaded view on my win mob 6.5
PS : Paypal donate button shudn't be that difficult to get
And yes just thought that I would mention about the contacts - its actually very easy - just get them into csv file using the trick that you mentioned above and then import the csv file in gmail contacts! that's it! gmail automatically syncs the contacts thereafter!

Hi Mark (Am I Noob to Android)
It seems like, you have solved the issue here. I did have one question for you:
What if you allready had a PIM back of your old phone. Then the phone you have sold it. But you still the the PIM backup file on your SD card. Can you still go on to follow and start from 2 step and then step 3.
Or is the another way of doing this then?
Many Thanks.
yes u should be able too as long as the PIM file is on your SD card. you can just directly transfer it onto your PC, then rename it to a ZIP file and proceed as instructed above.

that is what I got also, I tried importing data to excel (with / without renaming to csv or ssv) but the text was not understandable in any language so I did not even proceed in selecting the separator and actually import the data.

Come on guys read a little more on the web, if you would have done so you would have figured out you have the binary backup files, not the text file, so what you need to do is convert. Now if you press the search button for the forum you would have found this interesting link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424641
the title says: 'Convert PIM Backup binary file to text without using windows mobile device'
(considering yours broke like mine)
You can read there that you can convert it to a text file using an emulator on your pc and subsequentlyfollow the steps that were described here...
First of all what makes you think that none has bothered to use search button or at least Google the issue?
Second and last ok you have proved us stupid.
Anyway thanks for the link even though a late reply cause personally I have solved my issues.

LOTS of strange files into Windows (manila) - HTC Diamond

Hello dear HTC fanatics,
I am an happy owner of an HTC Touch Diamond since 4 months. I noticed that between the month of April and now a lot of files appeared into Windows folder which were not existing or not displayed before.
These files seems related with TouchFlo (manila). These files are not saved with a backup tool like Sprite Backup. These files seem to be Read only files and cannot be moved or deleted from the desktop XP. It sounds strange to me that they would be placed in Flash because they were not existing at the beginning... These are more than 1500 additional files displayed into Windows folder which were not at the begining! Now my Windows folder has more than 4000 files!
Here are some file names I found into Windows folder which are part of very big lists of files of the same kind:
0_0409.dat 00da6601-75e2-44b8-bd9d-54fa4fcbf331.dsm
01_480x640.gif
002726c9_manila
CallLogFrameInLUp_Port.png
ha_slideshow_play_dn.bmp
I-camera-resolution-1M.bmp
LQwerty0c0b.txt
MP3TrimmerProgressMarked_P.png
mxipupdate_office_100.provxml
mxipupdate_PACKAGE_Diamond_BTFtp_main.provxml
spd.5x4.English.kdb spd.5x4.German.kdb
YT_GuideBtnUp_mask.png YT_Home_Dn.png
Is this possible that there has been a system silent update during a connection on one of HTC server?
Did I tap on an EXE located into Windows folder that I shouldn't and which has uncompressed all this material by error?
Is this normal, does it harm Windows Mobile functionality as well as TouchFlo functionality (it seems it is still working fine)?
Can I live with that or should I hard reset my Diamond?
Could anyone please help me to determine if my device is working correctly or not?
Did anyone else ever noticed this?
I thank you very much in advance for your help.
Teknasia
More details:
I didn't install any system themes or other system customization else than GProfile and GScroll, GAlarm, Pocket Informant, PocketClock, Skype, Sprite Backup and a lots of games (EA, Gameloft, HeroCraft, Astraware etc.).
My ROM is the latest standard HTC one: 2.03.401.3 WWE (02/05/09)
I am wondering why my Windows folder now shows 4282 files where in the past month there wasn't all these files displayed. I just tried to move some of these from the PPC to the PC to see the result. There was no result at all as they are not able to be moved or removed. But anyway all these files where not visible in the past.
That is my question, what are they and do they limit the RAM memory that is available for me?
After a soft reset I have: 62 % free space indicated inthe top menu of the TouchFlo. And in Settings\System I have:
Storage
-------
Total: 82.56 MB
In use: 47.83 MB
Free: 34.73 MB
Program
--------
Total: 107.02 MB
In use: 70.36 MB
Free: 36.66 MB
So I don't know if these small free amounts have to do with all these additional files discovered into Windows or not?...
Strange... It seems that we have the best WM hackers around here but people are more chatty at PPCGeeks!

spd.5x4.English.kdb spd.5x4.German.kdb
YT_GuideBtnUp_mask.png YT_Home_Dn.png
Seem all native files to me.
These should be present in the \\windows\ dir.
eg.:
*.dsm Digital Signature Manager file, always present in a "package", is present in all ROMs (there are a lot of them in most ROMs)
002726c9_manila , a manilla file, present in all ROMs containing Manilla (also loads of them)
CallLogFrameInLUp_Port.png, a part of the dialer (this is the "portret version, so also a landscape version is present, and so there are lots of those for lots of things in the dialer..)
spd.5x4.English.kdb keyboard file
spd.5x4.German.kdb dito (multiple languages, multiple files..)
*.provXML provisional XML file, they overide some reg settings, file placements etc..
etc etc
Nothing strange, just your basic WiMo ROM files
Regards,
EqX
Thanks for your reply the-equinoxe.
I received a confirmation from HTC that these are ROM files.
The strange fact is that they were not visible into Windows XP Explorer via ActiveSync in the past... I tried to hide and display protected system files but this didn't change the PPC Windows displayed content.

Windows TSD Files?

Under WM 6.5 in the Windows directory I find "Hidden Store/Tasks" that contains a large number of files of the kind *.tsd - what are these? Can they be deleted
I just backed them up and deleted them all from my Samsung O2. Everything appears to work the same. When I run some programs a tsd file gets created for that program. I think they are like a log ?

Need to restore selective databases from default.vol backup on WM6.1 HTC Touch HD

Hi
I need to restore the databases associated with one particular program, from the scheduled SPB Backup file from a few days ago. I don't want to restore the whole backup.
I havew identified with memmaid (I think) that the data for MySportTraining is in a number of databses starting with MST in default.vol. But I don't know how to get at just that data and restore it to my Documents and Settings directory.
With memmaid I think I could import it if default.vol was an XML file, but no idea how to convert.
Can anyone help me with an explanation of how to restore just the MST content from default.vol (assuming I'm even on the right track with theh above)?
I'm using HTC Touch HD (T8282) with WM6.1.
Many thanks in advance

PC tool to expord HD2 registry in XML

in old good times when i had Touch HD somwhere on XDA (not in HD thereads) i found a PC software that was able to connect to PDA (probaly via activesync i guess) and read the registry.
than it was possible to export selected portions of the registry to PC in XML format. that was useful to automate resotre of certain settings like WiFi, connections and email accounts after hard reset or rom flash
now i lost the software and can not nither recall the name nor find it in the forum.
if you came accross one - please let me know where i can find it again.
many thanks!
philip
i use soft CeRegEditor
cheer!
