Any one know whats up on June 5?
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/05/27/major-announcement-from-htc-on-june-5/
No idea, perhaps some new gui like SPB mobile shell? I'm guessing some people are worried about the iPhone release....
It is probably going to be their UMPC launch.
Given Eten, Apple, etc are eating into HTC's market, I hope for their sake it is something to shock and awe. And a UMPC ain't it.

Now THAT would be bloody awesome......now, there's this girl in the office you see.....yeah, if only
Nice one Mike!
Mark.
Just an UMPC? I doubt it, look at previous HTC releases, they have recently been more than a single device. I would guess the prominent number 5 in the advert is more indicative of five devices:
1/ UMPC
2/ Universal replacement (long awaited)
3/ Blackberry device
4/ PDA based phone
5/ Smart Phone (touch screen – maybe)
All the above will have a common theme throughout the range, Edge, 3G, WiFi, BT, GPS, 256MB Ram, 128MB ROM.
Finally they will only be made available via HTC no more T-Mobile, O2, Orange re-badges.
A tall order and just a guess, any other suggestions? - Mike
Ultimate 7150...from Hermes?!
I am SO ready to pop $950 for this (final sale btw).
Anyway, my Hermes was probably one of the single best acquisitions I ever made....love it....and I'd like to make that experience better!
This I-mate phone seems the device to do that.
Size-functionality is the only concern I have, even if I am more of a pocket pc user than 'phone'.
Anyone else have any thoughts on the advisability of moving to the I-mate 7150?
And what category would this device fall in the wiki?
Thanks
I think it's gonna be mad UI...

Hey, I like my Orange re-badge!
I wouldn't mind the announcement of the omni....
But I think something along the lines of an UMPC will be more likely

HTC Touch announced
iPhone challenger?
by Stuart Miles
Will it beat the iPhone?
5 June 2007 - HTC has today confirmed that it will go head to head with Apple following the launch of the HTC Touch, a new touch screen device that on the surface looks identical to the iPhone.
Two years in the making, the new model will feature a touch screen display and will run Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 operating system.
Supposedly designed with people in mind - with the home screen offering the usual array of Windows Mobile 6 at a glance information such as appointments, email and weather.
Smaller than the iPhone, the device is controllable by one hand rather than a needing one to hold the device and one to hold the stylus.
In a similar interface to the iPhone, called TouchFlow, the user will be able to swipe their thumb across the screen to move around the menu system using HTC's "TouchFLO" technology.
"We have tried to create a simple, elegant interface" said the President of the HTC at a packed event in Soho, London.
The new handset will be offered on the Orange and T-Mobile networks in the UK from today and second half of the year in America.
Specs are as follows:
• Dimensions: 99.9mm (L) x 58mm (W) x 13.9mm (T)
• Weight: 112g with battery
• 1GB microSD storage card included / 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM
• 2.8-inch LCD touch screen with backlight, 240 x 320 dots resolution with 65,536 colours
• Battery Life: Rechargeable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1100 mAh
• Standby time: Up to 200 / Talk time: Up to 5 hours
• Camera: 2.0 mega-pixel CMOS colour camera
• Windows Mobile 6 Professional with Direct Push Email and HTML email support
• Wireless Connectivity: GSM/GPRS/EDGE Tri-band: 900, 1800,1900, Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.0
• Choice of two colours at launch - "elegant" soft black or "alluring" wasabi green
Expect a full review later today.

We must get the HTC software that HTC Touch has... I think we can put it in any other devices...
http://www.htctouch.com/ - interactive TouchFLO demo
I have to say I was disapointed with the announcement until i had a look at this site. Can't wait to try it out.
I really like the today plugin. Very tiddy. The same as the theme.
I hope someone will make it available to the rest of us.
As of Touchflo, it does not seem to me like a major breakthrough.
Excellent, it's good to see that they have responded to the innovations made by Apple (although at two years to market, perhaps they were possibly even ahead of them?) and WM6 phones can be more finger friendly.
With any luck someone can get hold of this software and we'll be able to run it on our phones. Bit disappointed with only 64mb memory and 128mb ROM though.

Am I missing something? Is it not just a Trinity with a better UI? (It looks like a improved version of anything SBSH/SPB/Lakeridge could have come up with).
So Apple and HTC have finally decided that being able to scroll without having to use a scroll bar is a major advance?! Big deal, we've been doing that on our PCs for years.
It looks good, but it's hardly worth the excitement

I second that.
Hi Guys
I have a HTC TyTN which I am using beyond its capabilities. I have upgraded it to WM6 and use a lot of the extra functionality that it contains however, I find it too slow and the screen is to low res. I am also seriously ****ed off with HTC build quality and it now has a fourth hardware issue that I cannot be bothered to return it for. - NO It has not been dropped, in fact its been treated better than an eggshell!
I was originaly looking at replacing it with an I-Mate Ultimate 5150 but I have now heard that they are not being released until November. I can't wait this long. I need a phone that can do all of the following but is NOT made by HTC
runs WM6
has HSDPA/3G
has Bluetooth/Not bothered about WiFi
is faster than this rubbish Samsung 2442A processor at 400mhz
ideally has more than 128meg ram - optional
has an optional extended battery
supports push Exchange email
Last but by no means least, MUST have a 640*480 screen
has a slide out/slide down keyboard
must NOT be made by HTC - no matter how well re-badged it is!
The monstrosity that is the JasJar is simply too big and doesn't support HSDPA anyway. Budget is not too much of a problem but I don't want to go bigger in size than the Ultimate 5150. I will be buying off-contract.
Apart from the I-Mate Ultimates, I can't find any phones to meet this criteria, anyone else know of any? I'm desperate!
Thanks loads in advance for saving my life!
wow you're not asking for much...and limiting yourself to the small (albeit increasing) percentage of the market that is non-HTC isnt helping you. But then again HTC is a product cycle behind everyone else with VGA so no foul...
In any case your pretty well limited to:
Toshiba G900. Everything you want bar the Processor. Has a possibly low Samsung Processor onboard.
beyond that any other devices coming close to that criteria are comprimises
ie GLofish X800, Gigabyte T300 (Like the G900 due for Release soon). VGA screens aren't that all come on at the moment, but are gradually improving, this is certainly the year for them.
Hi
Thanks for that! Looking like the device for me
And yes, im a firm believer of never buying another product from a manufacturer when something I have bought from them has failed repeatedly. From what I understand, i'm not the only one that has a HTC device thats failed over and over again - google tells me this!
Anyway, i've alreadly found this for sale for 379 and that was with my first google!
Thanks again!!
Hi,
I am pretty much on the same boat, although I am reasonably happy with my TyTN... I just want more!
I have been looking at:
- Toshiba G900 - 800x480 screen, only slightly larger than the TyTN
- E-TEN Glofish X500+ - only just saw this in a magazine yesterday, it is supposed to be a 640x480 version of the X500, and it will be sold by Expansys... although its not on their website yet!
Monty: I know how you feel about HTC, which is why I went from BA -> Flame.
My requirements were slightly different. In descreasing order of importance:
At least 3.5" screen. 2.8 - 3.2" screens are too small, both for my eyes and my hands (with stylus).
VGA.
Lightweight and fits in pocket. (Rules out Universal and Athena.)
Portrait-normal form factor. I gotta be able to hold it in one hand and tap the stylus in the other, comfortably.
2.5G. 3G is still new here, and I can live with 2.5G speeds because of what I use it for (ssh).
Bluetooth. No need for GPS or KB if you have BT.
Prefer no keyboard or a hidden slide-out keyboard -- I'll use a soft, USB or BT keyboard instead of a keyboard with keys too tiny for my fingers, which ends up simply increasing the thickness of the device most of the time.
No HTC device satisfies these requirements. Only the XDA Flame does.
The HTC Panda is a throwback since it doesn't have VGA. Otherwise it might be an acceptable alternative when it comes out.
The iMate Ultimate 7150 would be my second choice when it comes out, despite its keyboard (looks hidable and does not increase thickness of device too much).
Until something better comes out, I'll stick with the Flame.

heard? who did u hear it from??
"The highly acclaimed Ultimate range from i-mate will be on offer to customers throughout the region from Sept 2007"
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6461.html
Toshiba G900 has 128M RAM, 128M ROM and a Marvell PXA270 520 Mhz cpu.
It has been released in the UK. The manual is available online - at the Toshiba.co.uk mobile communications site.
Not only is this faster than the SAMSUNG on the TyTN, but is also current Xscale / ARM - the Samsung was two generations out of date ... and generally regarded as end of line long before the TyTN came out.
Imate???? Their customer support SUCKS!!! I've had JasJam for 7months now and have had enough. No phone support. Representatives have NO IDEA what they are chatting about - absolutely no knowledge and noone responds to emails!!!!
Personally I am impressed by the imate ultimate series whenever it is released but I am troubled by their customer support.
For almost 3 months now the clubimate site (Jasjam) page mentions that a newer version of the operating system will soon be released. When I finally got on line with them yesterday the person mentioned that it has already been released. Before I could ask him where it is posted the on line chat disconnected not to be connected again. But I am sure that clown had no idea of what he was talking about.

I dont think that it ll be a vaporware esp when considering the fact that the imate's future depends on them
hi,
is there a phone that has a around 3" screen, VGA, WM6 , GPS and HSDPA ?
the E-TEN X800 will have that when it gets out in 2010
the portege g900 is close but without GPS and it's screen is transmissive (weird for a modern phone)
the HTC Advantage is just too big and WM5 ?? WTH !
the HTC Omni might have all that but it only exists in photoshop plus it seems you can`t use it without unfolding the keyboard
the TyTN II doesn't have a VGA screen
I think I might go with the G900 and endure the non-reflective screen and carry around a bluetooth GPS since that's the only option right now and the X800 has been delayed for months
are there other phone to look out for , or other phones that come close ?
thanks
I think the x800 is out in certain online stores and rumor has it the m800 should also be coming out soon.
and if the polaris rumors are connect it will have 3.5" vga screen and all the rest
and maybe that thoshiba thingy forget it's name
The Polaris would not have vga, almost the same specs as the TyTN II only slimmer and no hardware keyboard. The more little/slimmer brother of the TyTN II.
still many sources who claim it does
http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocke...s/257910/HTC-Touch-GPS-VGA-more-HTC-Polaris-/
http://www.trendygadget.com/2007/06/29/htc-polaris-coming-in-october/
you can get more with google both sources which say vga which say qvga
which say 2.8" and 3.5" it's still too early to say anything for surden

Wow are you not aware of the numerous serious problems it has?
And that Toshiba have practically given up?
Do a Google about user opinions you will find out more.
There were some X800 in stock yesterday at Inkino.
And it is (I think) widely available in Romania and nearby countries already.
Hi,
thanks for all the replies
I had no idea there were any X800 on the market yet
also I thought the g900 software glitches had been mostly corrected, in fact just before I read that I was gonna bid on a G900 on ebay , I was one click away literally !
inkino is inkinocomms.com ? right ?
http://www.inkino.co.uk/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=82&products_id=1997
hmm it's pre-order
anyone knows of a store that really has some ?
I've been looking for this phone since august but release date is always two weeks away :\
also what about the HTC P6500 , is that coming out this century ? because it looks like it has everything too
With the G900, some issues are fixed with the new firmware, but a lot of users are still having problems and Toshiba don't give a tosh about further updates. I personally wouldn't gamble on it.
The turnaround time of upgrading a G900 from Toshiba is 8 weeks. And if you are not in the UK (don't know where are you from), then you can't even send the G900 to Toshiba to get an upgrade. You cannot download the firmware, the upgrade must be carried out by Toshiba.
Next week the X800 should start to become more widely available. However there are reports saying that the graphics performance is REALLY poor. I would wait for more user reports before deciding.
Don't know what you think but I think the P6500 is massive! (Massive as in physically huge, not as in popular)
I think x800 is already available....do you have informations about HTC release about a 3.5" vga touchflow device at the beginning of 2008??
I like the HTC touch cruise, but the 2.8" screen is too small!!!
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT by a Tosh. The quality is one thing and with a list of tweaks you can get it pretty stable. The SOD issue is probably caused by a wrong version of AS in the ROM.
But the f*ck*ng support from this is really bad. I did sent mine away 4 weeks ago, haven't heard a thing yet. No response on emails. They really don't give a **** about there customers.
9502 or m800
id wait and cross your fingers for I-mate 9502 or eten M800 (x800 with qwerty) to be released!
This is brand new: The I-Mate Ultimate 9502
http://www.imate.com/product.aspx?product=ultimate9502&skinid=1
It's got HSDPA/HSUPA for the United States along with a VGA screen, GPS, Wifi, etc. Check it out. Supposedly these will be sold directly through their website when the device becomes available.
MJB
I've been waiting for a long time for the X800, but it turns out to have a lot of issues:
http://eten-users.eu/index.php?showtopic=11632
The 64 mb of RAM ends up to be only 20 mb free after a soft reset because of the bulky ROM (too many programs want to load). No dedicated graphics processor gives it a 236.04 graphics index on spb benchmark. For perspective, the TyTn II's index is over 10 times higher. The VGA isn't worth painfully slow website scrolling.
If only, if only the 9502 isn't vaporware. If no ultimates are released in 2007, I'll throw in the towel, call VGA a dream, and buy a Tilt. I really hope it doesn't come to that.
HTC seriously needs some competition. How can a phone so fat have such a small battery (about 1300 mah)? So many radios need more juice--the 9502 is supposed to have around 1600 mah.
Here's hoping for the 9502 . . .
I thought you can now buy high capacity batteries (1600mah or so) that are the same size as the OE battery?
Early imate 9502 review

Im getting one!
skipping the eten m800 (mainly because low memory).
d
I am waiting for something like this myself.
Really hope that HTC will release an iPhone-killer. And not that ugly as HTC6500.
I have been after this exact phone for 2 and a bit years, Im so happy it finally exists !! I started with the universal when it first came to the UK, it was nearly perfect features wise but had issues, now I have an athena it has all the features I want but it's just too big and now finally this !! I hope one of the UK vendors picks it up !!!
Oh my, that makes me want to do a sex wee!
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=46296
I hope we can find something useful in it for our devices.... i realy don't want to buy a new device...
Yes, on the face of it, it seems quite soon after the TC was launched but then I suppose this might take a good few months to turn up in the shops. I presume the VGA screen will mean a lot of the UI widgets won't be usable on the TC, sadly.
Lots more info/video here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/HTC
Unless someone makes them work, but I seriously doubt that HTC will stick to the VGA line...
Yeah I don't want to have to buy another device either. It does suck that it's so soon after the Cruise was released. No microSD memory slot right? I haven't see it mentioned anywhere. 4GB internal memory might be faster but is way too limited.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389935
here they say microSD but then they also say EGPS where the htc site only say AGPS
so who is to know for sure yet...
being that it's vga it could also mean that if it have a working driver it's hardcoded to the vga res :S

According to Engaget it seems that Diamond has Video acceleration. If it's already implemented by that device, surely it will be available for Touch Cruise soon

While I do admire their efforts on the Diamond, I feel that the HTC product development process is just way to rushed. In the end they end up coming out with half assed devices. It seems like they make a new model every 2 months these days e.g. Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, P3470, Sedena, etc. So its no wonder they can't get any one model right.
They really need to take some notes of what Apple has been doing with the iPhone. New products have had more storage space, and they've been focusing on software updates for their current users. This way prospective buyers are happy and current owners are kept happy. HTC on the other hand delivers maybe one update to a device full of bugs its entire product lifetime in the form of an AKU. That's quite pathetic customer service esp. for devices that are nowhere near perfect from the get go.
I would buy a Diamond, or a WM7 phone, but HTC needs to start doing a better job respecting its current customers - seriously, the Kaiser ppl have been waiting practically a year now for some sort of update, and we Polaris ppl have been waiting nearly 6months. Until HTC does something about product support, my Touch Cruise and my HTC loyalty will hold me over just until the next generation iPhone comes along and the Apple SDK/Apple store has apps coming along.
I agree, they are releasing devices way too fast. They really should invest time in releasing a device that has quality design with well thought out hardware, something that can last for awhile and then release software updates to it. The iPhone comparisons though are not very accurate, since apple designed the hardware and the software and ATT has nothing to do with it (mostly). (as opposed to att needing to come out with their own ROMs for the tilt). But I see your point, where is the official WM6.1 release for example for HTC branded devices? End of March promised for some fix, it's now May and nothing, only an announcement for a new phone. Shame...
I really hate to admit it, but Apple does a good job whith their device/update probram, hell even M$ comes out with updates on a regular basis for its OS...
HTC should learn something from them... the sleek design, and user friendly interface may win the looks prize, but nothing else if it's unuseable and the support sucks...
Some people have more qualifications for PDAs then most of the personel at HTC from simple tech support, to development... and this is an open community (maybe that's why HTC tech support sucks, because we're here to sort out their mess)

pros tytn:
-keyboard
-i have 2 accus by then, 2 chargers etc etc...
-memory card slot (though i got 4 gb and it seems enough)
pros diamond:
-size!!! what a beatifull size at all, lighter and thinner then a n95, iphone etc.
-vga screen
-improved chipset and 192mb ram
I just wait till the first real reviews come out and then i decide!

It has drivers which use the videocontroller.
But this driver can only accelerate the "drawing" of the graphics and there only specific functions.
The main-cpu has still to handle 4 times the data in comparison to a qvga device.

I've been seeing the same page on Nvidias site for 6months now.
(nvidia.co.uk tegra_smartphones)
Tegra in a mobile phone is where its at, (or will be)
but when?
Because I couldn't wait any longer I've now got my self the desire.
(Orange gave me one for 15/mnth so I couldn't say no)
Does anyone here know any more fact, as when the tregra chip ends up in a phone that will truly be the next generation of mobiles
i had the HTC elf - 200 (255) mhtz
then I got the HD - 566
now i have Desire- 1ghtz
So tegra better deliver on the promises
dual core, Full HD, batterylife in days.
mix that with 4g reception and you have the perfect interface for teh 'cloud'
SO the near future is where you carry round your communication devies (and CPU) with you all the time and just plug it into what ever is around.
Why I'm posting this , I don't know. I'm just a bit annoyed at myself for not being able to wait for this tegra momnet and now I'm tied in with this contract.
