New Imate Jam ROM out - 1.12 - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

WWE Version - ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/JAM_WWE_112..._11210_ship.exe

Which would be the best ROM to use, the Imate or Qtek 1.12 ROM. Are there any software differences, different ExtROM contents?

ive read that the imate update as a better radio??
Fixes:
ROM builds with radio versions 1.05.00 and 1.10.00 all include audio enhancements for voice calls. Radio build 1.11.00 includes improved support for Cell Broadcast and SIM Toolkit applications. With radio 1.12.10 we have improved the settings for the echo cancellation to remove the phenomenon of "double talk", where a person calling a JAM customer will experience a minor echo if the other person is also talking at the same time.
All new builds contain the improved camera driver and fix for "No Bluetooth Hardware" bug. ROM builds 1.11.00 also includes a new MMS client for improved network compatability and an upgrade to the Operating System. 1.12.00 ROM builds should also reduce the "Cannot Connect" problem experienced by some customers.

The original i-mate download link is slow and not stable.
I have uploaded the files to here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Magician/JAM_WWE_11200_128_11210_ship/
Just run MaUpgradeUt.exe to install (patched already).

So which is better Qtek or Imate ROM?

Can i use this one also for my SPV M500 (Orange)?
:?:

Slow download
Hi all,
Saw that the download from Imate was slow (12 hours + in my case and it crapped out after 1 hour)... I can't get that FTP link to work, does the 112 rom exist anywhere else??

Bluetooth update

Mates, sorry for another question on this topic, I'm a very newbie and I couldn't orieent in this mess...
I Have an I-mate (still not able to understand whether it's an Andes or Alpine... BTW, what's the difference?)
I tried to connect via bluetooth both to the car handset and to a GPS receiver, but other than bonding the device, no connection was started.
I realize I have to upgrade something, and being extremely prudent in doing so.
I read in some place I need to upgrade to WM5, some other post referring to update Bluetooth but referring to many different stacks.
- Rom Version 1.66.00WWE
- ROM date 02/20/04
- Radio Version 1.1.10
- Protocol Version 1337.18
- ExtROM version 1.66.131
- Microsoft PowerPC V 4.20.0 (build 13252)
- Processor Intel PXA 263
Any help and pointer to files and instruction how to upgrade would be extremely appreciated

Comparing Universal models

I suggest a running comparison of the different Universal models. I have tried to complete this comparison but I am doing really badly. So, I have turned to XDA Developers to ask for help. Please add anything you know as differences to the attached table and repost.
I am trying to decide which model to buy and I know there are significant differences in the software (OS version, extensions and applications)provided as standard. So, I thought this comaprison might be useful to others.
I know there is a new XDA Exec ROM version available but have been unable to check out exactly what it includes.
I am particularly interested in A2DP and USB host support. Having owned an XDA II for many years, I am keen to not lose functionality including CF card compatibility and VGA output (via the backpack) which I guess will be possible via USB hosting and external USB devices.
You forget the Orange SPV M5000 on your list.
I haven't updated your comparation, but my Qtek 9000 is running the latest official Qtek ROM (that I know of):
ROM: 1.30.77 WWE date: 02/20/06
Radio: 1.09.00
Protocol: 42.42.P8
ExtROM: 1.30.176
Also no Universal has or had USB Host functionality (unfortunatelly)
and as far as I know all Universal versions have Bluetooth 1.2
Hi.
I saw a post around here somewhere, about hidden functionality on the Exec\Universal.
It was stated there that some wiring was missing, so the device cannot support USB host on the hardware level.
I suggest you search for that post. I could be wrong but if it is so no ROM update will give you this functionality.
Universal comparison update
Given that you have kindly contributed to the comparison, I have updated and reposted it.
If anyone else knows of differences in the standard hardware (unlikely), software or supplied accessories then I would be grateful for your comments.
Here is my wishlist in case anyone has any suggestions of products out there now or coming soon:
I need CF to take cards from my camera or download directly from the camera both of which needs a CF slot or USB hosting. So, if the O2 Exec or equivalent doesn't do it then is there another PDA that meets my minimum spec?
My minimum PDA spec.:
Windows Mobile (5.0)
GSM (tri-band)
3G
GPRS (class B Multislot class 10/EDGE)
Bluetooth (2.0 + a2dp)
Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
IR
VGA screen (64K colour)
integral keyboard (slide/fold out)
Camera (colour VGA)
SD/MMC card slot
CF card slot or USB host
Well..
I don't really see how the difference between models would matter to anyone. The Rom can be flashed anyway.
On the other hand, which provider, yes, that does matter. Because using an HTC universal on Web&Walk Pro w/ T-mobile for example, is a very different experience from using it with say, O2.
I'm on T-mob and having infinite Internet usage and access to all their hotspots mean I use my HTC as a small laptop (with terminal services). I love it, and even stream music all day long to my device.
Friends of mine on O2 use it only as an oversized phone and PDA, and hate it (too big).
My two cents of course...

The only machine that comes to mind and has most of what you want is FujitsuSiemens Loox T830, that should be released in following months.
It should have most of the above including USB host, with exception of VGA screen -> the screen is only 240x240 square.
So you basically have a choice of HTC Universal with VGA and no USB host/CF or FS Loox T830 with USB host but without VGA...
Actually, you want something like that, take a look at this:
http://www.advancetc.com/
Universal Model Comparison
I think I can solve the lack of CF in the Universal for my problem. I have found a SD-CF adapter and the SD is apparently completely contained within the CF adapter card. So, I should be able to take a pile of SD cards which I can use in my camera and then plug in to my O2 Exec (or equivalent for reviewing, editing, emailing etc.). Of course I'll have nowhere to dowload anything so I'll just have to carry more cards but at least they are useful in both camera and PDA.
If anyone is interested then see http://www.semsons.com/pasdadandcfa.html
I haven't found a UK source yet but I shall pursue it. If anyone gets there before me then please let the forum know.
By the way, has anyone heard of a bluetooth card reader?
The Comparison table will be updated and reposted tomorrow.
Blair, Orange's take on the Universal is the M5000 - not the M600 as you have included in your list. The M600 is a Prophet. 8)
Universal Model Comparison
Thank you everyone for your information.
I have reposted the comparison.
Does anyone know the status of A2DP and Bluetooth version for any or all of the different models and the details for T-Mobile's model?
Does anyone know of any new VGA WM5 phone PDAs coming out soon that I should look at?
You want VGA? Sharp W-Zero3.
You want similar to Uni? Advance TC M.A.G.I.C.

Just for your info - I have this adapter and it's quite usefull. Yes the SD card is completely inserted and it behaves like normal CF card with one exception - it's visibly slower than normal CF cards. In any case, like you mentioned yourself, this does not allow you to download stuff from the card...

Many thanks for that. Is it too slow for use in a camera?

I used it sometimes in my old (pretty slow) Nikon camera that had CF - it worked OK...
I bought it from http://shop.brando.com.hk/ good prices and service, I'm not sure if they still have the adaptor...

Radio
Probably most people who will pay a visit to this topic will be using their Kaisers in The Netherlands as well, so it might be usefull to share radio rom experience as well!
I used 1.65.20.29 on the KPN network (mostly around Eindhoven), but it was the worst coverage I ever had! Right now I am testing a Niki radio 1.58.16.27. Very quick GPS, good coverage, battery seems to be draining faster though.
Also I got the famous sound problem, but when I search, I actually only find topics where other people look for this problem and are being told that there are numerous topics about this problem. Topics that I don't seem to find... Anyone got the solution or topic, or otherwise the best radio in here with KPN?
By the way, I use Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19700. Untill there is a good and stable Diamond version with the changes from the official 6.1.
I'm mostly using english roms like Dutty's, but also L26's(he's dutch) diamond...
It is possible to translate roms into another language, I believe NoThrills is doing that.
And 20.29 aint working that good for me either, 1.65.16.25 is better. But I have a problem, don't know if its caused by the radio or my provider:
often get to hear "U heeft een niet-bestaand nummer gebeld" and with the normal phone never
Do you have a different operator on your hard line? If so, what message do you get when you call from there to the same number that gets the out of order message on your mobile? Cause I think this message is something every operator sets for itself, same with for example the call waiting tone.
dutch rom
http://www.htcdriver.com/wm6-freeware/wm6-software/directory/rom.php
also includes other standard wm 6.1 roms
thnx for the nice reactions.. as already posted i'm using Nothrills V3 with KPN Dutch network, and its running gr8!
i'm also very curious what extra's are in the KPN Branded rom for the tytn2???
I'm using the V5 from Leo as well, but indeed the radio reception is terrible... often he looses connection; I've never had that before.
When somebody finds a better radio then i'm interested

I live in NL (Den Haag) and I'm using Dutty's April 29 Hybrid with radio 1.64.08.21. Very good coverage and battery, but GPS is so-so. Sometimes I have a nice fix (10-15 seconds) but for gloomy conditions that we have now it goes around 1-3 minutes. I tried using 1.65.20.29 but I'm having some drop call and sound problem so I reverted back to 1.64.08.21.
I flashed back to 1.65.16.25 and the sound problems are over.
GPS fix a bit slower, but 'normal'. Anyone has ideas about the best baud settings in our little country or with our network?

Call recording: official list of supported models & ROM versions

UPDATE (03/23/2009 9:46 PM CET): MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT:
it seems you only have to download and execute the CAB file linked from the first post of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493118 (I've also mirrored it at http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/2 Way Recording.cab ). That is, you don't need to give a try to the previous methods; you don't need to read the linked (e.g., Touch HD) threads either to learn how to set up the previous hacks, what they do, what their restrictions are etc.

HTC Universal, [Tomal v8.7] WM6.1 New Build: 21028.1.6.0 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487384 ) works with one Universal but not on another. The difference seems to be only the rebrander (O2 working / i-mate not working); everything else identical, even the radio ROM version (Also see discussion below).
CDMA Touch Pro: see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3685592&postcount=111
HTC Touch Diamond2 (Topaz): 2_Way_Plus_InCall_Recording cab; Rom 1.39.404.1 (47382) NLD; tested with Resco Audio Recorder 4.52.

Palm Treo Pro
HTC BlueAngel, running WM6.5 build 21189 x5 by sun_dream
(original post follows)
As many of you may already noticed, there are already some reports on getting ICR (call recording) working on some models and ROM versions; for example, Touch HD, Kaiser and Raphael (CDMA-specific thread HERE; reported success with for example the new 5.05 leaked WWE ROM?)
Please post your results (phone model + exact ROM version [preferably with a link to the ROM cooker, if it’s a cooked ROM] + what you installed) in this thread; I’ll try to maintain a full compatibility list based on your input. Make absolute sure you only post anything if you’re 100% certain both parties are recorded and it’s not sound bleeding that makes the other party hearable. (The easiest way of making sure this isn’t the case is either turning down the volume or using a Bluetooth headset – then, the microphone of your handset won’t pick up anything from the other party.)
UPDATE: HERE STARTS THE LIST:
HTC Wizard: Win6.1 Wizflo Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435228
Touch Pro: MightyROM 4.14; official 5.05RUS ROM; official 5.05WWE ROM. Tool: InCallRecord.cab repacked by Monx.; Call record software: Vito Audionotes Touch.
Dash/ Excalibur: Confirmed working on NRG Rose Rom v1.7 and Kavana (using Microsoft Recite and VITO Audio Notes).
UPDATE (03/25/2009): added a two lists listing the mskip hack's proven (in)compatibility. That is, I've separated these entries from the previous ones (still) explaining comaptibility with the older hacks (InCallRecord.cab etc.)
UPDATE (04/10/2009):: mskip posted the following: "Made a new cab combining my 2 way recording plus the incall enable edit to enable BOTH sides to be recorded clearly from the dialer menu after a call has been established. It does not affect the ability to use a 3rd party app if you want, just gives you extra ease so you dont have to load any new programs up when you are in a call. " The cab is attached at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3577992&postcount=82
On my HTC Universal running Tomal 8.5 WM 6.1 (tested with the plain registry import, the original CAB file linked to in the first post of the Kaiser thread and Monx’s repack), it doesn’t work. The second did show up the “Record conversation” menu item while talking; the third didn’t at all. Nevertheless, nothing resulted in recording the other party, other than the sound bleeding from the speaker.
works on Touch Pro
running MightyROM 4.14
Hi Guys, Any ROM I could use to make true 2-way recording to work on the X1 with hands free? Thanks.
Wizard Win6.1 Wizflo Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435228
2-Way Recording Registry Edit working on the following phones and Roms:
Kaiser: SimpleOS Xtralite v2.1, HyperDragon 4th Feb, PDA Corner Ultimate v17, v19 & v20, Anryl's 15/3 6.S rom, AthineOS WWE, WM6.5 betas. (HyperDragon and PDA Corner works with HTC Voice Recorder and VITO Audio Notes, rest confirmed with VITO Audio Notes)
Dash/ Excalibur: Confirmed working on NRG Rose Rom v1.7 and Kavana (using Microsoft Recite and VITO Audio Notes).

Thanks! I give it a try too and report on the success.
Thanks guys! I've edited the first post and put all this info there.
Of course, keep on posting verified(!) info on all these - I'll continue refreshing & updating the list.
Excellent 2 way recording
Device: HTC Touch Pro.
verified ROMs: official 5.05RUS ROM and official 5.05WWE ROM.
Tool: InCallRecord.cab repacked by Monx.
Call record software: Vito Audionotes Touch.
The Registry Edit and Vito AudioNotes is working for me:
HTC Kaiser/ AT&T Tilt
dutty's WM6.1 WWE
ROM Date: 04/29/08
Radio: 1.65.14.06
Victor
2-Way Recording Registry Edit ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493118 ) works just great with character’s AMP ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2077663&postcount=9 ) on the HTC Wizard. Will soon test it on the Universal and the Vox too.
works on kaiser
The Registry Edit cab by MSkip and Vito AudioNotes Touch 0.2 work for me:
HTC Kaiser/ AT&T Tilt
dutty's WM6.1 WWE
ROM Date: 04/29/08
Radio: 1.64.08.21
Protocol : 25.74.40.02W
SIM & Security Unlocked
Sound quality is very clear for both parties in a recorded conversation.
Updated the first post; now, I recommend giving a try to 2 Way Recording.cab first. I've also mirrored it to avoid having to wait for Rapidshare / the other service.
How to get the audio on a Bluetooth Device...
Anyone been successful at getting Jawbone to work as a bluetooth audio device (headset) while playing back these recordings?
Has anyone tested this on a Mogul/Titan? I have one and I would LOVE to be able to record calls!!!

You'll need a hack to do this (to reroute the audio output) - see the dedicated threads (and my article in the Wiki).

If you installed to 2_Way_Recording cab then you need to use a 3rd party program such as Voice Recorder or Vito Audio Notes to record the conversation. Audio Notes is better since you can set it to automatically record all conversations. I think it drains the battery a bit though so I took it off auto and linked it to a hardware button so I can record only the conversations I need to quickly.
Doesn't work on a Sprint TP with a stock rom (11/11/08 - 1.03.651.4).
Just installing the cab doesn't record the other party (faint sound, most likely coming through the mic).
Wavedev.dll seems to be incompatible with this rom - recording of any kind doesn't work.
