command line registry export tool - General Topics

is there a tool that can export a registry branch via command line?
already search google and this forum but came up with nothing.
when my device hard resets on its own i always loose my application settings and scores in games like astraware. they keep this informations in registry.
if this tool exists, i can just schedule a daily exporting of some branches from my registry to my storage card and import them again later.

you mean the nScriptm tool?
ill check it out. looks like it is capable. let you know later...thanks.

amazing little tool. packed with powerful features. (equivalent of the almighty PowerPro for windows http://www.ppro.org. )
it's almost perfect except that it doesn't support unicode. some apps are using unicode entries in the registry.
nice find though. i'll surely find many uses for this.

Here an exemple of my use that inscribe in larger need
View with NScript help what are the commande that i used

looks like you did overcome the unicode limitation using a workaround. thanks! i'll have a look at your script.
btw, i can't understand the comments. what language is it? i'll try to run in through a translator.

It's french, sorry it was for my use

thanks. you're the best!

desktop program on windows mobile ?

Hello,
I might sound naive but would it be able to run a desktop simple application (such as a dictionnary in my case) on my windows mobile device ?
Thank you in advance for any tip
No.
Different OS and different processor architecture mean your WM device wouldn't have a clue as to what to do with this app.
There DOS emulators that can run old apps with varying degree of success bu nothing for windows as far as I know.

As it's been pointed out, it's pretty futile to try to emulate anything. Use a remote controller application - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 for more info
EDIT: I've just noticed you've already read the article
There is a DOS emulator for ppc though.
BTW, there are a lot of dictionaries for the Pocket PC, including even Japanese. Did you read my related articles?

No, I looked around, but could not find your article. I would be glad to have the link.
I also found out that roadlingua dictionary shell (http://www.absoluteword.com/roadlng/) might be a solution, as I can create my own data base. I might be able to tune the one that is working on my desktop and implement it on this shell (french<>japanese). I will give it a try this w.e.
I also found these dictionaries for Japanese<>English (most of them freeware)
・EBPocket
・WordNet 2.0 - Dictionary & Thesaurus
・EDICT V05-003
・F2J2

Help with PDB file?

I'm running WM6 on a wizard. I have a program which shows airfields and information about them called smart companion (attached for anyone who wants to play) which would be really useful for me as a commercial pilot. Unfortunately the associated database file is in pdb format which I was told would work on both Palm and WM (The executable is the WM version) but my wizard wont read it.
Does anyone know how to make this work or do i need a different database format? Can it be converted to the right one?
I have attached the pdb file as well.

For reading my PDB files I use a free program: OLIVETREE Bible READER: http://www.olivetree.com/pocketpc/
It has an option to read other stuff like ebooks, etc...
---
Thanks
Thanks for that I have downloaded it & will try it.
Ideally I would like to get the database to work with the 'smart companion' program as it allows you to add notes & shows the airfields in a proper diagramatic way.
Can pdb files be converted to work like this?
Thanks again

I am confused, are you trying to run an application made for a PALM device? If your answer is YES, try StyleTap you won't regret it: http://styletap.com
I just don't know if it is supported though. I use StyleTap to run SUperMemo for Palm. Although there is a SuperMemo for PPC but from a different company, and it sucks. The MapleTop SuperMemo software is better.
Thanks for the post cktlcmd.
The smartCompanion program has two versions. One for palm (a prc file) and one for WM (an exe file). However it only has one database file (a pdb file).
When I run the exe file on my wizard (tried it on wm5 and wm6). the programs runs fine but does not find the database. I made sure the database was in the same directory/folder as the exe file but no joy.
My mate who gave it to me reckons he knows people running it on WM and it is to do with where the database is stored but he runs it on Palm & doesn't know much about WM.
Since your post I have got it running using styletap and the prc (palm) version so I am very happy about that.
I would still very much like to work out how to use the exe version as it runs smoother (orientation changes very slowly using styletap when I want to use my keyboard and a few other minor annoyances).
Anyway your suggestion means I actually have use of the program, and I can run other palm programs if I want as well. Thanks.
Does anybody know if I have to have a pdb file in a specific folder for it to be found by a program?

Let me get this straight, when you install the PPC version it runs fine but can't find the pdb file, right? If the answer is YES, then there should be a setting within that PPC application on pointing to where you should place the pdb file. Otherwise, try the very root of the SD Card, that might be the default setting of the PPC application.

WM6 Registry Editing Guide?

Hey guys,
Looking for a registry editing guide that explains a little more on the Windows Mobile registry.
Bought a Ubiqio 503G on the internet. The phone has great features but sucks as far as:
-In-call speaker volume
-MP3 ringtone volume
-Weak vibrate
Ubiquio does not support this device and eXpansys has very poor support, and a crappy tech. team.
I believe the guys on this forum have more knowledge than eXpansys.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Much appreciated.
like with pc windows registry
every program can create registries
having whatever function for the program
as the programmer sees fit
so other then how to alter registrys there really is no general guide to
the registry
There's no dedicated guide on all registry entries, like Rudegar said, but better read this before starting to play around with registry:
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/howto/how_to_edit_the_registry.html
Just dump your registry as a .txt file, put it on your pc (try ceregeditor) and do keyword searches until you find what you need. Play around a little with the applicable values (if found), but save the original file in case you mess up.
nice post WG very informative for users who havent tinkered with the reg before. I also like to use a desktop reg editor (whilst active synced) called CeRegEditor as well as a PPC one (PHM, Task Manager v3.1 etc), best of both worlds
Agree the best regieditor on desktop for WM is CeRegEditor, and the combining of FDC's TaskMgr.exe + Total Commander make us never need a standalone reg editing tool on device.
Plus for a real tweak addict better purchase the SKTracker, another 'tweaker's dream'.
I'm planning to repost the whole content on nir36's guide thread, a lot of code-adding work to do tho.
Edit: Done. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471521 This is a really useful thread for beginners.
Edit: I found this wonderful site really need some 'beginner-friendly' contents, or maybe need a seperate 'Beginner's Subforum'. Although it's already a heaven for developers, but beginners maybe less taken care of. I don't call beginners 'noobs' or 'idiots' because I'm a beginner too.

Agree. The developers know what they talking about, but the tens of thousands of mere mortals don't.
I have been reading for days and still don't know where to start to modify the Today screen, not to mention ROM.

How to create a .reg file (what's the format)

Hello all,
I hope I used the search function correctly, I could not find an answer to this one. If You have a link to an answer, please be so kind to point me out in that direction.
Each time I do a flash of a new ROM I go through the process of installing the mayor things I need. Although I know that Shashimi (if I write it correctly) will solve this issue, I am trying to get to smoothing the job of some standard actions I do for each ROM.
I install my Resco Explorer 2008 and edit the registry.
I know all the specific entries I need, some are new, some are value changes.
There is a possibility in Resco to import .reg files. I tried to create my own by taking a .reg file I downloaded from here, but Resco complained it not being in the right format.
Can somebody inform how the file should look.
Is there a difference between value changes for an existing entry or new entries. Is there a certain Header which should be available.
I am sure these questions are answered somewhere, but the Wiki and Search did not let me find an answer.
And yes, I will go to Shashimi sometimes, but am not ready yet.
Thanks all in advance,
Ruud
I used TaskMgr to export some registry keys and it looks exactly like this:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\BTRouter]
"BTBaudrate"=dword:003d0900
"BTPortName"="COM7:"
Hope this helps
Hi ZaxXx,
exactly this format is what I see around here. But trying to import this through Resco Explorer 2008 does not work. Also simply clicking on the (text)-file with this format does not result in the registry being updated to the contents of the file.
How would You re-import these registry entries, other than by hand?
Edit :
OK, I just tried to import a file which was exported by TaskManager, this actually works.
But my files, which look the same to me are rejected. Time to start looking real careful, what the difference is.
Regards,
Ruud
OK solved it.
Or at least to some extend.
I can import the file through TaskManager and the file is accepted without mistakes. The entries do appear in the registry after that.
BUT, Resco Explorer 2008 still judges the file corrupt and does not want to import.
It will save a lot of time like this, so I am happy.
Thank You,
Ruud
Some more solutions;
Howdy all,
Yesterday I pointed someone to UC Capable ROM you're going to love UC, for sure! ;

I'm using PHM Registry Editor it allows me to do the following tasks:
Explore the registry to find the operating system and applications configuration,
modify system and applications tweeks not available from the standard options screens,
export all or parts of the registry to .reg files,
backup and restore the complete registry and
perform search on the registry data
Export a key, look into it with notepad (ASCII) editor, then you'll know its format
Some more recent findings you might want to take a look into you need them anyway when you're getting into UC;

This Rollup is an excellent overall HTC FAQ IMHO. It'll give you a very good overall impression of how to flash a ROM.
When you too are in cooking ROM's then this thread 'll interest you!
