I just got done reading a PM from someone who bought a used phone. And guess what they had on it, My Vanilla ROM.
Guys if you are going to sell your phones, please flash them back to factory. I dont think its smart to sell it with my rom or any other bleeding edge rom. These releases are still considered to be testing.
I understand your concerns and I agree...but I think that if we (as a community) are sharing ROM's...this is one of those things that is going to happen and we'll have to live with ya know...
agree with j3d1n4s7y (pain to copy out!lol)
and i agree with you nottoosmart.
if the seller didnt make it a selling point then, it shouldnt matter. but if the seller was saying 'oooo loooky here, wm6-rare!!!!!!buy me!' then the seller frankly is an idiot!
"What is the world coming to?" ?
Frankly, I don't see what the issue is. As long as the seller clearly indicates that the phone is running a third-party ROM, such as mUn's, then what's the problem? Undeniably, the person ought mention such information, but that's just an issue falling under the category of normal auction and commerce etiquette (i.e., that one should always disclose any major modifications made to a device).
Most people would be happy to get a phone pre-installed with mUn's ROM (regardless of what it's re-branded as). The functionality and stability of the mUn WM6 ROM you speak of are real and significant improvements over the OEM's ROMs.
This thread seems little more than public boasting.
cheers.

I know... If I wasn't worrying about M$ getting up my ass, I'd sell your rom at a lower price than that guy and we can split the profits...
Selling cooked roms
OK, I guess I have to disagree with a lot of you folks here. I think it is a bad idea to sell cooked roms. The problem is with people who are new to pocket pc's and to WM5 and WM6. If you will remember, there is a learning curve to these devices, and the extra complexity of many cooked roms adds to the confusion. Also, where are they going to get help for their questions about WM6? or where do they turn to when their comm manager screen doesn't look like the one in the picture? Is the seller going to offer support? Likely not, probably they will refer them to this forum and they will end up PMing the rom chef indignantly, expecting their help.
Leave the stock rom in place. If you want to unlock the device, fine, but put it back the way you found it. That way the people who buy them know where to turn for support. (Microsoft, or the carrier).
Regards,
Make it Factory!
Heck even if you update to the original carriers latest rom, thats fine. You are doing the next guy a favor. But just think of it this way.
If you DONT flash it back to a factory rom, can you really be sure that you have removed all your personal info from the device?
Ever hear about the 100's of HDs that are bought and sold on ebay without being security wipped? Phone numbers, B-Days, eww its ripe for the identity thief.
If you have taken the time to unlock it and play with it, have the common courtesy to put it back to a carrier supported format.
btw Great rom there NTS
sellling cooked roms WTF?!

Ok, let me state the issue with this......
I got 3 PM's through the forum about support of this. I know this sounds like me coping out on support, but I am not about to support someone who does not know anything or has not spent the time reading the posts here. Most of the PM's I get are from people who have done the research here and not just saying "BTW I bought a device with your ROM on it, can you help me do this or that"

I totally agree with this. Its very similar to the people that are seeing posts in PC Mag, and other places about WM6 roms for the wizard can be found here. They come here and start flashing before they even know what they are doing then start demanding (and yes I mean demanding) people to fix their phone they have now screwed up (I get numerous PM's from people that want me to be their personal support center and tell them step by step how to do things. Most of those PMs get deleted or I will point them to one of the how to threads and not answer further PMs from them. I'll continue to assist people that post in the forums, but am starting to ignore ones that its pretty obvious they haven't even tried looking before asking. I love the ones that ask for where to download a rom, and just a couple of posts above theirs is a link someone posted.
hi
I have this device arriving to me in the states from UK Tuesday and just interested in the impressions you many learned folks here have of it.
I am very keen on larger screen devices (blue angel, my present iPhone etc) and am looking forward to this WM6 3.5'' hsdpa wifi gps device.
Will this site list and adopt a place for modifications to it?
I am banking on the pocketCM type data entry system to make it as functional as I enjoy on my iPhone right now.
Anyway, I'll report on my experience with this device soon!
thanks

JayJay - since this is a useless thread, let me add some value
This pains me every time I see it ... and I'll explain why:
WinMoDevelopers.co.cc
Forums for NON HTC Devices
The idea of a WinMo Forum place for non HTC devices is great. But for the life of me I would never ever be able to remember that URL.... It's really, sorry to say, terrible for branding, terrible for memory, and by the very use of .cc it looks amateurish. And the only reason why I point this out -- to be helpful actually -- is that I just did a quick domain search and all 3 of these are available -- as dotcoms -- the universal easy-to-remember address -- since you more or less drop the .com and only have to remember the first part.
To reach the same audience you wish to reach more of, I believe you'd do much better with one of these.... and that was just my first-pass thinking in 2 minutes... please don't take offense. Branding is important... it's also not something everyone is naturally good at. best regards, /qs

the idea was to have a simialr forum for nonhtc devices
the issue is my forum is a new forum
it has yet to recieve any finacial donations and it uses a forumer.com forum so i cant pick up the software like vbulletin and input it inot a server or whatnot just yet
also since there is no money being donated and im not making any due to unemployment then im having trouble finding the money to buy a domain
so until i get a job or i get any donations then itll have to be a free domain till then
also it cant all be that bad, a goolge search for winmodevelopers brings up every ite i have.
btw
i find it hard to take offence here after the first few flames i got when i started
I gotcha.. i didn't know it was a free domain. I also understand well re economic times, amigo, and I wish you well. I totally see the value of this additional WM niche not served nearly as well at HTC owners. I want to talk to you about that. And secondly I would like to buy a domain for you-- it's 10$ /year... and I can offer you hosting, perhaps w vB. I do have it installed. You may have zero time right now, and perhaps zero motivation/interest at moment due to much higher prioroties, but I think there are opportunities there and for you to play a bridge role between sites would be great. When you are READY to chat please send me an email. (see my profile). Thanks, and glad you weren't offended. It hadn't occurred to me that the name was formatted that way due to beung free.
best regards/ quicksite.

I just bought an Omnia HD here in the states. As everyone one knows it' hasnt been marketed here for some reason, i just dont know why. And because of that im having major problems with my HD. Tmobile services it but since it's an unlocked phone that they dont promote not all services will be supported by them. The HD comes with A-gps turn by turn navigation, IM and Email. Those three are what i cant use. is there a symbian site or some third party application i can use as alternatives for these?? i downloaded google map but that doesnt go hand in hand with the gups navigation and i have to get online to check my email instead of it coming directly to my phone. I mean it's almost pointless to buy this phone if no network in the US can support all it's features. Please helllllp (
As you know this is an HTC devices only forum so you won´t get too much atention, however in off topic section there is a thread regarding samsung, perhaps there you can find more help.
Good luck,

Taken From XDA Portal
For the last few weeks, we have been intensely covering security and privacy issues that involve quite a few of the latest HTC devices (Sensation, EVO 3D, etc). It was discovered by XDA Recognized Developer TrevE that there are multiple apps and services that basically collect all sorts of information about our devices, their usage, and everything that is done on them to later on be sent to some Amazon cloud drive. HTC has come back a couple of times with official statements saying that the apps are indeed harmless and that the information collected is to basically help HTC and the carriers to improve their products and services to us. Moreover, they claimed that, at least, the HTC services can be opted out and they would stop collecting said information. Well, TrevE has been doing a lot of research as of lately and further proved that not only can these services not be turned off by regular means, but also has shown, by doing an experiment in a controlled environment, that the apps are inherently dangerous as they can be easily exploited by virtually any app that has android.permission.INTERNET enabled, which a ton of apps in the market currently do.
The kind of information that can be pulled from the device could be enough, potentially, to clone a device completely if the person receiving this knows how to do it. The app seems to allow the dump of virtually all stats and values by the device. Regardless of HTC’s motives to collect this information, the important part about this, and really the core of the issue, is that the information from these apps can be easily intercepted and sent anywhere to anyone. For the skeptics in the room, TrevE has put together a small demo app (proof of concept) that shows what could potentially happen when this is intercepted. He also has put together a Youtube video that shows exactly what is going on. It seems that the only real way to get rid of these services is by rooting the device and manually removing them, but there is no known way to remove them from an unrooted device.
HTC has been notified about the issue approximately 5 days ago and we are still waiting for a response, which they said they are working on. You will have to keep in mind that this is only the first app that TrevE is working on, and if you remember from previous articles, there are 5 of them. Long story short, you can expect one of these articles on XDA at least once a week for the next month or so.
Well, HTC, as you may see it, this is no longer about us wondering why you are getting our information, but it was discovered that whatever you are using to get it is simply not secure. For the sake of your customer’s privacy, we request that you take the proper measures and release any and all necessary patches to fix this for any and all devices being affected. This is about people’s data falling in the wrong hands, so please we ask that you take action on this soon.
HTCLogger allows any app that has access to android.permission.INTERNET on devices such as the evo3d to obtain full access to query sensitive info such as network/appusagestats/meid/esn/phone#/past 10 location broadcasts and last known locations/and more.

Thats basically what Im thinking.. But who knows...For all we know the STOCK sms app is sending HTC all our texts...think of how many drug dealers/ or other illegal things people do that is uploaded to htc....I For-see a NEW AGE IN CRIME STOPPING upon us...and the general public doesnt even know it.
About the big brother watching you.
Why do you think Android is free? Companies like HTC and Google want you to spend as much time as possible on the internet so you can see the ads that pay their bills. That's the whole idea behind Android, cheap access to the internet so you can use Google products and see their ads. HTC is probably doing something similar here. HTC has access to lots of user data via the phones that they sell. This is valuable data to data miners who can sell their products using this information.
Personally I don't have a problem with this. But if you do it makes sense to stop using the internet
Call me crazy but I quite frankly don't care much about them knowing what apps I run or where my wifi network is located or where my phone has been. I voluntarily share that kind of information with Google in return for making my life easier by allowing my to use services like Google Maps and Google Search. Now if I were a terrorist or someone running from law enforcement I could see how this would bother me a lot more.
Moreover, if this information actually helps HTC improve the user experience on my next device (similar to how it has helped Google improve their services), I'll personally send it to them in a .zip file. It is troubling though that they kind of just take these kinds of stats regardless of your consent.
Anyway, let me know when they start listening in on my phone calls and reading my text messages. Maybe then I'll care more. -_-
EDIT: I still really do appreciate TrevE taking time out of his day to do this research and share his findings with the community.
Guys I think there trying to say that HTC or google is not gathering our info securely, and anyone with the knowledge can intercept our info from google or HTC. Say the president uses a HTC sensation, and a terrorist intercepts the presidents info that is suppose to go to google or HTC. Now that terrorist knows where the president is,etc. See how that's a problem? I sure don't want no crazed lunatic knowing were I'm at,worst, cloning my phone!
