Remove items in Programs list? - General Topics

As I've been installing and removing various software I find that sometimes I'm left with the application listed under the Program drop down menu.
How can I remove these items? The application doesn't exit on my MDA as it's been removed so I don't need these shortcuts .
John

just go to \windows\start menu\programs and edit the shortcut links there.

WM6 + app uninstall left over some registry entries

I had a few apps which I uninstalled and now I notice that under Settings -> Buttons
When assigning an app to a key, in the list of apps there is 1 unicode character (the square) . Any help on where the app gets the list of installed applications? Hopefully I can change that to remove the annoying char.
The programs there are whats listed in \windows\Start menu and any subfolders.
Use desktop file explorer or a more advanced explorer on the device like Total Commander to see if there are any strange files in left in those folders.

How to add shortcuts to QuickMenu 2.8?

Here's the topic where u can download the app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340352
anyway since i'm using WM 6.5, the old nice start menu has been replaced, and i missed having 8 shortcuts simply by pressing start menu. So, a good solution is to use QuickMenu, it lets u use the old WM 6.1 start menu as well as letting u use the WM 6.5 start menu (which is basically just opening the Programs folder, kinda pointless IMO).
So anyway i'm happy with QuickMenu but have trouble finding how to add shortcuts to the list, i fiddled with all the options but can't figure it out. Anyone plz guide me?
It's just like any start menu. Copy shortcuts to \windows\start menu\programs\xxxxx. Total commander is the best tool for the job. Not sure what you mean about the 6.5 start menu only opening up programs. I thought that was what it was supposed to do, lol.

No, what i said was that the WM 6.5 start menu only opens up the Programs folder, instead of showing the drop down start menu with the 7 or 8 program shortcuts where u can launch them straight away.
I.E, the WM 6.1 start menu is just like the start menu on your computer. On WM 6.5, it just opens up the programs folder, there are no drop down menus when you click start.
Anyway i already have shortcuts in the path \windows\start menu\programs, but you have to assign them to QuickMenu, u have to add them to the shortcut list.
This is the same for the start menu on your WM 6.1, you have to go to Settings --> Menu Launch list (something like that) and tick the shortcuts you want to show.
When you select shortcuts for the 6.1 menu in the 'menus' applet, it just moves the shortcuts to \Windows\Start Menu from the Programs sub-folders. The 6.5 start menu shows more than just the program directory; it also shows the Settings directory. I'm pretty sure that it will show any shortcut placed directly in \Windows\Start Menu; I've put things there by accident and they've shown up in the 6.5 start menu. You'll have to do it manually with total commander or something similar. If you get the shortcuts there, they should show both in quick menu and in the 6.5 start menu. You should only be able to put 7 shortcuts there, though.
thx i got it working, ur rite, i just have to copy shortcuts from:
\windows\start menu\programs
to
\windows\start menu
edit:
OK nope it's still not working. For some reason, after 2 or 3 mins, the shortcuts I put in the \windows\start menu folder always get moved to the \windows\start menu\programs folder instead. The shortcuts aren't deleted, they're just moved automatically. I noticed this problem occurs on the WM 6.1 as well.
I've only added 7 shortcuts to the list so it should be fine, i can see the shortcuts on Quick Menu but they just get moved afterwards.....

Same question.
How to make Quickmenu 2.8 work with WM6.5
I miss my shortcuts, the honeycomb sucks.
Just flash dynasty rom; I'm pretty sure that it runs quick menu.

Ok, i reinstalled a couple of programs, then i get the shortcut in right place, but programs like tomtom i doesn´t want to reinstall i will try your way. But i don´t have resco, any regedit program will work, right ?
Here is the right way to assign a shortcut (and WM6.5 "Bronze" icon) for any program
This can be manually added to the registry or via .REG or .PROVXML
This example is for a standard REG (RGU) unicode text file, and will add a start menu ("bronze") shortcut with anasociated icon for a software called "goleada4.0", which is installed in "Program Files\Alcorcon" (just an example, not a real app, just wahtever came to my mind first )
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Tools\Goleada4.0.lnk]
"Icon"="\\Profgram Files\\Alcorcon\\Goleada4.0.png"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher]
"\\Program Files\\Alcorcon\\Goleada4.0.exe"="\\Program Files\\Alcorcon\\whatever.qtc"
Notice the last line MUST be empty, following the standard .REG / .RGU syntax
Hope this helps
Wow! That's complicated. Why not just use the file explorer on the device, navigate to the .exe, copy and then go to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and paste a shortcut there?
Or you can use the attached programme.

Here some executables WM5/WM6 to standard defaults;
Start Menu
Message Notifier
View Program Files; folderview.exe Unzip and put this file in you programs folder and you will be able to add it to htc home
View Settings; htcSettings.exe Unzip and put the file in you programs folder and you will be able to add it to htc home
I'll get back to you @ a later time (with more executables). First I need to dig into my database; I'm missing a few realy handy utils! BBL,
Thanks Senax for your advices, but I mean "Home" such as "Show Desktop" ... and notifier for "HTC Notifier" in top bar which is too bad to launch from top bar ...
Show DeskTop - Today Screen
Show Desktop cq Today Screen;
via PHM Tools .. zipped and I do not know if its complete/original
Though Desktop.exe does its job Plus all other utilities

How can I organize the Start Menu without actually organizing the Start Menu?

How can I organize the Start Menu without actually organizing the Start Menu?
I have an HTC Touch Pro2 with the factory installed Sense 2.5 and Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM. I've added CHT. Every time I install a program, it naturally installs the shortcuts to the ../Start Menu/Programs directory. If you later organize the shortcuts, you break your Quick Links and Free Links. If you do an update, the program's shortcut gets installed back in the default location and you need to delete or move them. If I could just let the programs install in the default \Start Menu\Programs directory, and have something that could organize the display independently of the way they are stored, I would never have to change the default program's default shortcut location, and could organize and re-organize the "Start Menu" at will without breaking links. This is not a problem for Windows desktop because you don't generally have a shell above it like HTC Sense, linked to the shortcuts of the Start Menu. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?
The cure would be if Sense + CHT could link to files outside of the ../Start Menu/Programs directory structure.
Thanks!
