I will be travelling to China about July this year. I am in Australia & have an i-mate, & would like to purchase a gps package etc. Can anyone suggest if it is worthwhile & cheaper to purchase accessories o/s, & if so, what would be recommended .
mate,
as you're going to china; if you have a chance to pass by hong kong then i would surely recommend that you buy your stuff there. just make sure not to buy from your run-off the stores along the roads; in hk i would recommend the star city it center (kowloon side, ocean terminal near the ferry). i've been buying most of my electronics stuff from that area and i've been very happy for the past 4 years.
oh, prices should be a little more expensive (as compared to china)...then again i did run into a very nasty experience of buying an sd card from china. bloody thing wouldn't work when i used it in my ppc. tried to get my money back but that was as easy opening a beer with your toenails. since then i've been buying my stuff in hk since the place is very updated when it comes to electronics. bought my gps there last year; still working and no problems.
cheers then
rob

Hi Guys and Gals
I am selling my XDA2i, which has been unlocked and tested to work on Orange, T Mobile, Vodaphone and O2 networks, only setback is a couple of scratches on the left hand side but nothing major, works perfectly
You will also get Tom Tom 5 incl the UK, European and USA maps as well as a DVD full of the latest applications and games
Please PM me with any offers or email me on [email protected]
I am willing to ship abroad but the buyer will have to pay for postage
Thanks
I have decided that will take £300 for my device, this will include Special Delivery postage to anywhere in the UK. I have checked Ebay and this seems a fair price I think
Overseas buyers you will have to pay the relevant postage to your country on top of the price above
If you think this is too high then please let me know what you think is reasonable
Thanks
I have reconsidered and am willing to take £240, this will include shipping to any UK address. Overseas buyers the price will depend on where the item is to be sent.
I have decided to buy O2 Mini S, I think it seems a logical step forward as the XDA Exec is too bulky and not as cool
Let me know what you all think
not bein funny but i think you signature is puttin people off.
that and the xda mini s is about £150 on the data5 tarrif with a trade in handset (factoring in line rental and assuming you keep your existing sim, as you would buying SG's xda2).
ok deal is that I go to us for 3 weeks on Tuesday - which nicely overlaps with Asus release date...
I'm undecided whether to buy it in states or when I come back home to uk.... it does work out considerably cheaper in US than in UK....
with dock its £100 cheaper in US... £330 vs £430
without dock difference is even greater
£240 vs £379...
so even if I had to pay VAT upon return to UK (which I'd like to avoid of course) that would still only be about £45 in VAT so still £100 cheaper for tablet only...
Now £100 out of £380 thats nearly 25%.... tempting...
so my question is, what's asus warranty like? would I be covered in UK with my US transformer?
Anyone?
Sent from my HTC Desire
I'd like to know this too.... I was planning on getting family in the US to buy one and then bring it over when they come to visit beginning of May. If there's no worldwide warranty then there may be a problem! Especially with the reports of dead pixels which I CANNOT stand!
I'm also considering doing this when I head over to the states later this year. Asus laptops have international warranty so I'm hoping their tablets will as well!
Can anybody who has one check the warranty paper that came with the transformer to see if it's worldwide?
Thanks

Yes the warranty card says 12 months global cover
Ripped off in the UK as usual.
I also see there were a few of our American cousins moaning about it not being available in the States. Well, that is how we generally feel in Europe as most thing are released first in the US - Games, films, tech etc etc. Right, moan over: I feel better now!
If I were you I'd get it from the States (even buy two and sell one for a small profit over here and you'd pay even less for yours!)
I'm in the UK and thinking of buying the Transformer Prime in the US for the cost saving. Hopefully it'll support global warranty cover like the original Transformer.
Does anyone what differences there'll be between the two devices and accessories that come with it?
I know it'll come with a US power cable and the default language would be English US. These are non issues as I can get a new UK power cable and change the language and regional settings to English UK.
Anything else I need to be aware of?
Hi I wanted to cover a few things such as:
- which sites in your region (Europe, America, etc.) do you recommed to buy phones?
- why and how do some online retailers sell just a phone and maybe a wall charger...where do they get the phones and where does the rest of retail contents go?
- would you say that generally speaking, if a price seems a bit too cheap on a phone (e.g. €50/$50 cheaper than others) then you have to be careful online?
- have you ever bought a phone on eBay, expansys or Amazon? How did that purchase go?
- any advice on detecting a reputable/scam seller/phone?
I hope that different people can pick up a few tips here about phones online etc.
For me, I bought a phone online a few years ago, turned out to be a dodgy imitation from China. Since then I've been extra cautious and learned a lot about how that works from experienced eBay members. I've since purchased only in retail stores. Now, I'm in the market for a new phone :victory: and have been browsing online. So many sellers online don't tell you much about the product, and to some degree, if you don't ask or it's not specified, you could get screwed over.
in the USA, i usually shop at newegg or tigerdirect. Best places for me to shop at, and good shipping too. Th.e sites give you a wide variety of items to buy, and sometimes give you deals of the days and bundles. Check them out.

Just been looking at this. Thinking whether to take the plunge on this one and sell my LG V30
I am from the Netherlands and I bought one in October. I really like the form factor. size of an iPhone 6 and screensize of a iPhone plus.
2 issues. bad reception. so only buy the phone if you have good reception with your current phone at your house or work.
camera is poor. you need to root it for Google camera, which makes the camera ok-ish.
updates are great. phone is fast! like it a lot!
Essential Phone is now available to purchase directly in the UK now via Essential website.
Hi everyone, I'll be in Hong-Kong for few days next week and I'm planning to buy the Honor Magic 2.
Do you guys know if it can be found in Hong-Kong or should I go for a day trip in Shenzhen to get it?
If you have any adress, store name or relevant information I would appreciate that!
Thanks!
Depends on how frequent you fly back to hk actually. If you think warranty is important for you, I will recommend going to shenzhen to pick it up. You get original receipt and there are lots of honor service centre in shenzhen. There is a honor retail store at shenzhen 華強北, which is very accessible via subway.
If you don't fly back often and not worried about warranty, sure buy it in hk. You will have to pay a little extra on top of msrp, but very marginal, possible cheaper than the commuting cost and less trouble. You can either go to Sham shui po station, D2 exit and make a left. There is a 2 storey plaza that specializes in selling mobile phones. Option 2 is prince Edward station, exit b and walk towards pioneer centre 2/F.
Great thank you so much!
I think it's easier for me if I can find it in Hong-Kong. And no indeed I won't be back there often..
Do you think they could have the Mi Mix 3 also cause I got my eyes on the two of them and want to compare hands on
Yep most stores have both. I got both and both phones have their pros and cons. I personally decided to stick with the magic 2 for the much better battery life but the mix 3 8+256 has international LTE bands and better camera
Sounds good, thank you for the informations!!
I'll see that as soon as I arrive in Hong-Kong
I m in hk till next Thursday. If you need help while u r in here, feel free to pm me. I will be glad to help
