I syncronise with my XDA to a PC - and synchronise files as well as Calendar with Outlook.
However, my XDA does a new trick.
I have calendar items on my PC. I add new items to my XDA and synchronise. When the synchronisation takes place, all the caledar items get deleted from the XDA and put themselves in the deleted items folder of Outlook. I then have to drag eacah calendar item separately from the deleted tray back to the calendar tary on my PC. This happened with my contacts last week. How can I stop this happening?
Thanks.

If you are using the microsoft ActiveSync software, this is because you have the rules under the "Option" choice under the "tools" menu sat to "Always replace items on device." Change the setting to "Leave Unresolved".
What this will do is not do anything when it encounteres a conflict. When you tell it to resolve the issue, it will ask you which you want to delete. The one on the device or the one in the computer.

Thanks for your reply.
I did have contacts on the XDA and also on the PC so how can it recognise that there is nothing on one?
It should have syncronised and not deleted from both.

From the sounds of it, you have the sitting to mirror what is on the PC to the XDA. IF this is the setting and nothing is in the PC, then whatever is on the XDA will get deleted.
Check the setting and see what it is sat to.

How do I change this setting - I am new to the XDA and am not sure.
Thanks.

let me share with you another scenario, i recently have to hard reset my xdamini and have to restore everything back from my SD card. When i sync it with my laptop using active sync, all my outlook meeting organizer was converted to my name instead of the sender, why?

Further to my last thread (this is a separate issue so i thought i'd make a separate thread)....
How does Hotmail syncing work on Windows Mobile? i'm mostly asking about the sent items.
When i send an e-mail from my phone, it's saved into my sent items folder, which is then synced with the Hotmail 'server' so i can view that sent item regardless of where i log on....
But when i delete my sent items from Hotmail (via my PC etc) the sent items don't sync, and i'm left with loads of sent items on my phone (if i forget to delete them regularly).
Initially i thought it was because syncing wasn't enabled... but it must be if they're appearing on the hotmail server.... !?
if anyone can shed some light (maybe i'm just being dumb!) i'd appreciate it!
Thanks!
(I've just got a Kaiser, running WM6 and i notice that i've had to manually go into 'folder management' to enable syncing for sent items... so i'm wondering if it works differently on WM6!?)
Hi guys got a question. After searching and finding some ticks on removing Outlook email from my phone I had no luck in doing so. I was trying the Trick for the Kaiser using Rosco reg editor. Anyway I tried it and it seemed to work but when I deleted the folder my Email was disabled. I use Hotmail on my phone and have it setup in my Push emails. In the MAIL screen I have three folders one with a note and pencil(guessing for writing new mail) and 2 note folders one is Outlook(want this deleted) and the other Hotmail(want just this) I want to delete the outlook folder and have just the one with the pencil on it and the Hotmail one. How do I go about doing this?
Nevermind I have found out the problem! Thanks for looking all that was needed to be done was Remove the Active sync connection from my PC to Phone. Just click on you Activesync program(PC), Go to TOOLS and select OPTIONS then just deselect the email. It will say something like Activesync will have to remove all email from you phone just click yes.
I wanted to know if there is a way around or trick to prevent duplicating contacts/appointments/tasks everytime I flash my vogue
and connect/sync to MyPhone and then sync with Outlook?
Sorry if this was asked elsewhere...could find it!
Thanks in advance.

I would also like to know how to get them both synchronised
Is there any solution?

I found a simple solution... Flash your device. Sync with MyPhone. Delete Outlook personal folders file and create a new, empty one (easy way to just delete everything from Outlook). Then set up sync between device and Outlook, voila - all your data goes first from MyPhone to device, then from device to Outlook.

from phone to PC
Please Need Help
Create new Contacts folder
The syncronization between WinMo with Outlook via Activesync regarding the contacts is done using the default Outlook contacts folder. So, what I use to do is to create another contacts folder and move there as many contacts as I want not meant to be sync'd. This way, I achive what I want, and keep intact all the remaining contacts, which you can move back and forth as you please, any time.
However, my understanding of "syncronization" is not all these tricks (I know that sometimes there is no other way) but a single utility that syncs, echoes, replicates or whatsoever. From this point of view, I would like to reiterate the original question: Is there "something" to sync My Phone with Outlook?
Thanks.
FWIW i have the same issue with my Xperia connected toOutlook and a mail2web Exchange account. The only commonality is my Xperia in the middle and the only working solution has been to clear out the Outlook Calendar and Contacts before resynching, after allowing time for the OTA Exchange to finish.
Hi All,
I know you can link a contact in your phone book to their corresponding Facebook profile and have the phone display the Facebook Profile picture as the Photo for the Contact – this is all well and good, however, when you sync your contacts with Outlook, the contact cards display the original or no photo.
Is it possible to have the up to date Facebook photo assigned to the contact photo permanently?
I know there was some free software which claimed to do this (I forget the name) – but it was very unstable and seemed to freeze/crash a lot, plus it wasn’t automated.
Can you one help? Or mod?
Thankies.
I'd love to know this too - I was wondering if it was possible, but didn't put too much thought into it.

The software was called BookSync and as far as I know only made it to Beta.
Any new versions that work on the HD2 or an equivalent cab?

Oh interesting I´m not the only one with this prob.
But my experience is, if facebook change first time the favpic and I change it following with my own pic (on phone) - facebook never replace it.
anybody affirm this?

read the linked' post again. no cab required! tis part of the native program.
cheers.
I see, thanks for your comment.
anyone else able to help with this?
Another good function would be to be able to choose a picture for the contact you have from their facebook album rather than only being able to only have their currently profile picture.
Does anyone know how to do this yet??
spb mobile shell does this... But i've been looking for the equivalent as a free program...
never found...
facebook pics in outlook
I was messing with my outlook and HD2 recently and came across a method that let me save all my facebook pics to outlook from Hd2. Heres what i did....
i synced my phone with my PC and then unpluged it from the computer. i then backed up all my contacts and calender events using PIM back up (im sure you can use any other back up form) save that back up...
after i went to activesync and changed my settings to "Replace item on desktop" when there is a conflict. Deleted all my contacts in outlook and all my calendar events in outlook then synced once again and my phone cleared up as well then i unplugged my phone again and restored using the back up i made and synced all my contacts with thier facebook accounts(before syncing again) once the all had updated pics from facebook i synced with my PC (under the same settings...replace items on desktop) and done.
the contacts were back and calendar events were also back with facebook pics..
maybe some one can try it on thier end and see what happens but worked for me

well this doesn't really "overwrite" the outlook contact pictures with the facebook ones. The reason why it seem to work for you is because when you sync your phone with fb it creates a folder FBContacts under the /windows directory which stores your facebook avatars with the files named according to the fb contacts id. all activesync does is add your fb contacts id in the notes of the outlook contact and when this file exist in the /windows/fbcontacts folder it will display that instead of the pic in outlook. if you check the contact on your PC the pics are still the existing ones and not the fb ones.
so if you want your contacts to show the fb avatar just backup the /windows/fbcontacts folder.
at least this is what i found from my little investigation. if i'm wrong pls correct me.

The problem with this is it will update the pictures as a one time update. Every time the fb picture for the contact changes (and is reflected on the HD2) your outlook picture will not be updated

This does work and it is easy as per the native program however when the contact changes their FB pic, it updates again. So basically it keeps the latest change wether that is yourself with the Outlook pic or FB if your mate updates it.
As i have the best pic with Outlook id rather it permanently use that if selected but cant seem to find a way it can do this.

Go to your address book > go to contact > press trackball >

You cannot do this in masse, only one at a time.
Or
I'm not real familial with RIM but you might be able to back up with Google, Exchange, or what ever RIM uses and from there put them on your Google contacts, and they will show up on your phone.
