After I hard reset my MDA Compact and just before my pda tells me to wait 3 seconds to install my T-mobile software (ext rom), I soft reset my pda. Then I can view my ext rom on my mda compact with file explorer. There are a lot of programs I can install from this ext rom.
Can somebody tell me which programs I have to install and which one I can better skip to have more memory available?
Can i use skype on my mda without a wifi card and just with bleutooth?

The OS requires appr. 34MByte. The Extended ROM about 22MByte and Storage space is only 8MByte.
Did someone already find out how to REMOVE the extended ROM. It's just 22MByte of useless storage space now. Once the apps in it are installed about 40% of the available flash space is just sitting there.
It would be great to have 30MByte of Storage space and keep a copy of the Extended ROM applications on a SD Card, so you still have them if you would ever need a hard reset.
In most ROM versions (WWE) the complete 22MByte is not even used. HTC just designed it to fit all Extended ROM versions.
So, if somebody finds out how to remove the Extended ROM and replace it with Storage space. That would be great.
MDA T-Compact (blueshop24.de) flashed to WWE English version.
Some way to save you memory in oyur XDA mini
1. First, Backup your XDA mini
2. Do a Hard-Reset and wait until it goes to the "Today" screen
3. And then there is message will tell you that,it will start installing the Extended Rom in 3 seconds.
4. At this moment DON'T let the installation run.And Do a Soft-Reset immediately~!~!
5. After you do this Soft-Reset,you can go to check your "Memory" and You can also see a "Extended_ROM" in your "File Explorer"
6. But You can't modify the file in "Extended_ROM" folder you can only choose something that you want and install back into your XDA mini.

Hi is it possibel to resize the ext_rom???

Does anybody know a tool to resize it ???
Hey guys,
Well I succeeded in upgrading to Anansky's BigStorage ROM and was very satisfied, but now my stupid speaker broke (I have a similar problem to other users where they can hear sound if they blow into the speaker). I have to return the Magician so I need to revert back. Can someone PLEASE upload the original XDA II ROM PLEASE???
Here's a list of instructions on how to backup the ROM:
Backing up your ROM can be done by connecting your Magician to the PC through the data cable when you first uncheck the USB connection of active sync.
If your Magician connects with active sync because you didn't uncheck the USB connection in the active sync connection settings then you will not be able to backup your ROM to an SD memory card.
1. Before connecting your Magician you should bring it into the boot loader mode. This can be done by simultaneously pressing power + camera buttons and at the same time the soft reset button with the stylus.
2. After connecting your Magician to the PC through the USB in boot loader mode and having your SD card inserted into the MDA, you run romupdate.exe.
3. Then choose the USB connection in the connection settings of romupdate.exe window and click on ok. After that a terminal window will popup in that window.
4. Type d2s and press enter. Your Magician will start copying the ROM to the sd card. The screen of your Magician will be dark (no light), but you will see it counting up to 100%. When it reaches 100% it will say it is calculating the checksum. Give it some time till its done and it will say checksum ok.
5. After finishing the transfer of the ROM from your Magician to the SD card, put your SD card into an SD card reader connected to your pc. Your pc might pop up a warning message that says your SD Card is not formatted would you like to format? Click No and open a Command prompt (DOS) window.
6. Change directory to your root directory (cd c:\) and run the command ntrw read o2orig.nb1 x: where x is the drive letter of your sd card. That command will create the ROM Backup file of your ROM into your C drive root directory by the name of o2orig.nb1. Make sure you keep o2orig.nb1 in a safe place and use a copy of that file for the rest of the procedure. Note that after finishing the copy from your SD card to o2orig.nb1 file ntrw might give you an error, just don’t pay attention to it.
7. WinRAR the o2orig.nb1 file, then upload it to the XDA Developers FTP .[/i]

The question is why havent you got a backup?? You were told to do this in the first instance should anything go wrong!!
somebody apparently has uploaded the O2 mini original rom, check it out!
The answer to this was I was using my digital camera as an SD reader...and the backup didn't work properly for some reason. So now I have nothing.
The backup (I think you're talking about the O2 Original Dump Rom) doesn't work for me. I have a 1.11 version of the O2 Asia ROM, but I'd rather have the original WWE. Oh yes, and I've tried several times with the "Original Dump Rom" using 220, 415 and 416 bytes...nothing works.
This may work for you - use the romupdate software to get the rom image of your device to the sd card. By this stage you have an edited rom image on the pc. Use ntrw to write that image over the top of the sd card that you have just written to with romupdate. Then plug it into the ppc. Do not format the sd card in the immediate procedure at anytime. For whatever reason I think the romupdate software puts a format on the sd card which the ppc recognises. There were a number of errors on the ppc screen just after installation however when you push the reset button hey hey the original splash screen boots up. Prior to this check that the edited rom header is 416, in my efforts it was not 415. The RomMiniOrg.nb1 image was good with the only NON change being the radio which remained at version 1.11 but I downgraded it to 1.05. I don't think the service centre will worry to much about this should you need it. Goodluck with this, it worked for me.
Hi yozhek,
Thanks for the help. I did what you said but it still didn't work. However, I used O2_mini_asia from the FTP to downgrade my extended rom, protocol and rom version...then I found the Radio downgrade on the FTP and downgraded to version 1.01.
now everything is original!
I didn't know that the Nb1 files did not include the radio stack downgrade so I had to downgrade that seperately.
the command in the romupdate program basically determine which image to backup.
d2s for rom, but I am not sure what's the other command for extended rom and radio. Anybody?
Can I use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to change the ROM on my mini with the o2mini_asia.nb1 ?
miniuser: no
you will have to use the process as described in procedure.doc (available in the FTP under anansky's bigstorage folder)
I did as described in the procedure.doc. I have run this command
ntrw write o2mini_asia.nb1 e: and then inserted the SD card into my mini and pressed the power+camera+soft reset button
but it is not doing anything, it has stopped at "Serial" above and v1.00 below for an hour now. Any suggestions?
cheers

I tried it second time, now it says

Not Allow Update
Any Suggestions?

Sorry for the last post, was trying out something else.
I am using a 256MB SD card and the size of the rom is only 127MB after ntrw, does it make any diff??
you can always ntrw write a 127mb rom image into a 256mb sd card.
the rom flash will not work (and hence the no update allowed message) if your rom image in your sd card is invalid for some reason. I make a bobo previously, trying to copy 416byte of anasky rom into my original rom, instead of the other way round. And it give me that error message. After realising my mistake, and did the right modification, the flash went through successfully. so double check your rom header edit if you are not able to proceed to the flash step.
I have a mini with qteck 1.11.00 WWE
and I have download the o2mini rom from xda ftp and have got a 256 mb card
if I want to flash my mini with the o2mini rom the are these the steps to follow
1. dump qtek rom into card
2. copy it to pc
3. copy 1st 416 bytes of qtck into o2mini rom
4. dump o2mini rom into card
5. put mini into bootloader mode
6 update with mini rom
cheers

where is the file?
I upgraded from a T-mobile Eng rom to a Chinese rom days ago. It took me about 4 days to fully understand and fully accomplish this task. There are tips I feel that I should share it with other rom upgrade dummies. You may be able to find out the solutions to the problems you encounter.
1, there are 2 ways to upgrade rom, namely, SD card way and non-SD card way. As the non-SD card way involves the changing country code issue, I chose to use the SD card way. BTW, the rom upgrade method in the sticky thread is the non-SD card way.
2, the ntrw.exe file in the upgrade folder in the FTP server does not function for me. I am using Windows XP sp2 and usb 2.0 SD card reader, which might be the reason to cause the incompatibility. Solution is easy: use the ntrw 2.0 version, which can be downloaded from the FTP as well.
3, if you don't know how to replace the first 416 bytes MANNUALLY, use the bytecopy tool. You will find the tool from the FTP.
4, the two CHS (chinese simplified) rom in the bigstorage folder in the FTP don't work for me. The only one that works is the O2 mini CHS rom in the "dumped rom" folder on the FTP, but this rom is not bigstorage. Therefore, we need to mannually create a bigstorage rom. Follow the instruction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23250
5, CAUTION: the SD-card upgrade method DOES have the possibility to destroy the SD card. My 1 gb sandisk SD card cannot be used anymore after I tried the rom upgrade 3 times.
6, don't worry about the rom size that you dump from your magician. The rom size vary from the size of the SD card you use to dump the rom. When I used a 256 MB SD card, the dumped rom size is 25x MB. When I used a 1 gb SD card (the destroyed one -.-), the dumped rom size is 9xx MB.
If you have any other questions about rom upgrade, let me know. I may be able to help from what I learn in my dummy upgrade experience.
Cheers
My first exercise on ROM flashing
Dear Zenkle,
I am using WWE O2 mini. I have (kind-of) successfully done my first try on upgrading ROM as well. My final destiny is to upgrade to CHT BigStorage.
My first exercise was to get BigStorage on existing WWE ROM. It works on the memory side, but I lost all the O2 customization. I got a default WM2003SE. Can't use GPRS now. Do you have any ideal on how to put O2 customization back? I am currently restoring back to the original version.
I downloaded a CHT shipped ROM (CHT_11106_902_11100.zip) from XDA-Developer FTP. There isn't any nb1 file, but a couple of nbf files instead. Do you have any ideal how to flash this to the ROM?
Thanks for helping me up!
Douglas
To get your o2 mini ext rom back, you need to look for the o2 mini dumped rom. However, the rom available on the FTP is the mini 1.03, but not 1.12, so you might need to look for other sources for the newest rom.
Regarding the files in the shipped rom, those files are used for the non-SD rom upgrade method. You can check the sticky post to see how to use them. link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14973
Good luck mate
Successfully change from WWE to CHT
Hurray! I have successfully flashed CHT to my O2 mini. I am using a traditional chinese device now!
Supprisingly! CHT uses lesser memory than WWE. I have 20.14MB Storage left for WWE after hardreset, but I am getting 21.04MB Storage left for CHT.
I am going to modify it to BigStorage....
My CHT BigStorage
Hey! I have successfully turned my new CHT O2 mini to Big Storage. The extra storage is similar to WWE version. Anyway, I am very happy now.
Hi all,
I'm french, so excuse my bad englsih.
I had a Pocket PC on Windows Mobile 2003 First Edition and i backup my system to my ROM memory. After a new ROM installation (Windows 2003 Second Edition), i can't see this backup file in ROM, and now i have only 1Mo in ROM Memory.
How can i erase the old backup file ? Total Commander & Co can't see the file also...
Thanks a lot for you help !
Regards,
Bertrand
Please specify exactly what device do you have.
(I am not familiar with devices that got upgraded from 2003 to 2003SE)
The reason you cant see your backup is because its gone. When you reflash your device (upgrade the ROM) the File Store (where you save stuff you don't want deleted during hard reset) is also formatted. The reason you only have 1 MB storage left could be one of two things:
A) The new ROM takes more space.
B) Something went wrong during the upgrade and the ROM was not properly partitioned.
NOTE:
There is no way to recover this data. It is recommended that you backup important stuff to SD card or your PC (ActiveSync has a backup function).
I have a PDA, a "Yakumo Alpha GPS" (equal to "Acer N35").
Yesterday, I installed wrong ROM to try to free ROM Storage, and the install have been down. So, I reinstall Windows Moblie Seconde Edition, and now my ROM Storage is 0.2 MO. (
So, yes, I think that an installation was down one week ago, and that's why i had less ROM Storage.
PLease, tell me it's possible to recover my ROM Storage...
Hi beber49!
I am not sure of the details, but I can point you in the right direction and after some searching you should have the solution:
Find a device with the original ROM, there are instructions in the wiki on how to backup ROM to SD then restore. I think if you manage to reflash your device with the original ROM you might get your storage back.
But be careful: If the reflash is not done properly, you may loose all of the free storage or even kill the device.
Sorry, that's all I have. Hope someone gives you a better idea!
i tryed that but no way to see these file...
Is it possible to install a cooked rom on a Treo 750 without a miniSD card?
flasher1
download flasher hermes and a wmROM (bin) and replace the file
remeber: hard slp first
Yes, I just did that yesterday.
I have used Hermann v3.0 ROM by using the data cable.
Create an Active Sync Connection with your PC. After HARD-SPL, you just need to execute the RUUWrapper.exe which will update the ROM.
