Hi, I have an xda II wm2003 I think?
Is there a way to get Contacts to store with the first name first, and last name last?
As a work round I change it in outlook on my pc, but can you do this on the phone?
Also when I reset my phone the storage locations for the camera goes back to it's default, is it possible to change the storage location in the registry?? And how would I do this
Thank you,
Damian

Hi could some one please help me delete some old partnerships in activesync, I use windows XP and activesync 3.7.1, everything works fine, but as i keep installing crap on my old XDA and also the new XDA-2 i oftern hard reset and then reinstall new or different programs.
The problem is each time i do this i have to make a new name for the partnership, i.e john-xda, john_xda, johns-xda etc etc, i have about 20 existing names listed , I know this is not the end of the world but it is anoying, and when you go to send a file via IR or BT from the laptop up comes a list of at least 20 old xda partnership names to choose from.
Please any ideas how to delets all of them apart from the one thats currently in use
Thanks
John
have you tried under activesync ? would seem logic to make it possible to delete partnerships from there
otherwise you can delete the folder made by the patnership under
my documents
Thanks for the ideas, I have looked in activesync but there are no options there to delete them, I have deleted the folders in my documents ( and the desk top short cuts to them) but when i try and send a file i still get shown the list of 20 plus names to send to, but the real problem is you cant use the same name twice.
thanks for trying tho
john
have you tried doing a search in regedit on the pc
it would be a typical place to store them
Go to ActiveSync while there's no device plugged in. Then select 'File', "Delete Partnership' until they're all gone.
Thanks Peter thak worked fine, i had looked in activesync but this was with a device connected.
thanks for bot of you for your help
John
is it possible to 're-link' the old partnership with an XDA after a hard reset?
b
why would you want to ?
you can still use the same name
you can still get access to all the files
you can still get access to the backup
so then why do you want the get the old patnership ?
just thought it might be easier than deleting the old partnership and creating a new one.
Also, do you know if the SMS messages are stored when the XDA syncs up? If so, how do I get the back onto my phone after a hard reset?
Cheers,
B
Old Partnership
If when you delete the partnership you answer no to delete files and the XDA has the same name the new partnership will use the same link area (/my documents/pocketpcXXmy documents)
ah HA! Awesome. But do you know about the text messages (SMS)?
B
Hi. If you had a partnership with your pc when you first synchonized and now you hard-reset your device, you might want to delete the old partnership if you don't need its documents anymore. That could be done in a very easy way even when the device is not connected. the steps are:
-Turn on pc
-double click active sync incon without connecting the device
-go to file>mobile device and select the partnership's name you wanna delete, when selected a big black dot will appear next to it.
-then file>delete parnership
Done!
Fantastic!! Although that still doesn't really answer my question

you cant sync sms's back if you took a backup and restore it you get the sms back or if you used the tool at yorch.net
Hello,
I have one HTC Touch (wm6) with many apps and tweaks already installed and running.
My wife got another Touch (same ROM version) and gave me the job to install everything like to the mine.
Well, i'm thinking in mirror my SD card card to her SD and then restore my last SPB Backup from there.
Someone did it before? If i change the USER name before i sync to my PC it will be recognized as another device diferent to the mine?
Could be another things to be changed for her PPC works?
Thanks for the help...
And please, save my weekend 8)))

I think it won't, but I'm not sure. Just restore your stuff to her PPC, change the owner name and let AS connect to it. If it still refers to the same PPC (I think it will), let me know and I look up the related Registry entry doing this.
Note that you can safely do all this - it won't mess up anything.

Hi!
I have done this several times using SPB backup with success (HTC P3300). This is the steps I performed:
1) Create an complete backup in self extracting (exe) format with SPB Backup
2) Manually backup any necessary files and folders from Storage Card (i.e. Program Files)
3) Upgrade the target device to the same Rom version
4) Copy manually backed up files to the target Storage Card
5) Execute SPB backup file on the target device, excluding PIM information (this is an option when restoring)
6) Change owner name
7) Change device-ID (important because AS uses this to identify the device). The device-ID is changed from the about screen in settings.
8) Make a partnership in AS and transfer all PIM information.
Regards,
PK
Thank you both for the help.
I did the steps above and everything went fine. Great Paalkr !!!
I just forgot one thing before... The programs/configs are to be identical (and they are now) but not the PIM info.
When i first connected to the AS it restored all my PIM info (contacts...) to her Touch...
Off couse she can edit her contact list in the Touch but i guess the next time she connect her phone to my PC all my contacts stored in XP outlook will be cloned to the her PIM info.
I tried to uncheck the contacts in AS but it warned that this action will clear all the contacts in the next sync...
Well, Am i wrong or is there a way to bypass the sync problem???
Ps. Two things related to the problem. i can't create another WindowsXP user account for her and the contacts stored in the XP outlook arent important to me or to her (but if i uncheck the contacts option in AS i guess i will loose all my phone PIM info too).
Once more, thank you for this great help.

Hi!
If you don't want do sync PIM info it is important to connect to AS in guest mode, just press cancel when AS detects the device for the first time. If you want to delete a partnership you can do this from the file menu in AS (in the PC) when there is no device connected.
I have attached a cab file that maybe you can use to delete all PIM data on the device. I have not tried it on WM6, so there is no guarantee.
Regards,
PK
Worked perfectly.
For someone that will follow this topic for the same problem in the future just one extra thing: - to connect as a GUEST you need to exclude the partnership on both PC AS and Mobile AS.
Thank you once more Paalkr.

I've been finding this annoying hoping to find some answer.
Whenever I add a number to the phone, it doesn't get formatted.
ie, I enter "1234567890" I see it as "(123) 456-7890" on the display, but as soon as I save that number to a contact, it turns back into "1234567890" not as "(123) 456-7890". hence I'll need to navigate through the symbols menu and format it myself manually.
Is there a way to fix this?
This doesn't apply if I add a contact from outlook and sync, they're all formatted nicely. Only when adding number on the phone.
and I'm using WM6.1 by Gonzo.
Thank You
The same for me but in reverse, I want "12345678" in contact but outlook let me done
That is easy
in windows xp
Go to the control panel in the option Calls and Modem and edit MY PLACE chooses the country INTERNATIONAL PHONE SERVICE FREE
sorry for translation my english is sux and i use xp PT Br
I'm just wondering if it's just me, or does everybody's Vox behave the same as mine?
Wondering if it's because of the custom firmware, or has this behavior been there for all the different Windows Mobile.
inoutlook theres an optionfor autoformating
dont know where but ive had s.th like this already go for google its an outlookproblem!
just trying to reel this thread back to the original topic...my problem isn't with outlook, it's with saving number with formatting on the phone by itself.
a "(123) 456-7890" number as seen on the display when I enter a number on the phone gets saved as "1234567890" when I choose save to contact or save to new contact, which I'll need to manually format it myself to "(123) 456-7890".
Easiest Way

I have the same issue as you. But the path of least resistance is the outlook suggestion above.
Here's what happens. You set the locality in windows to international; sync your phone to outlook, take out the dashes and parenthesis in outlook; sync with the phone; and all the numbers are displayed 1234567890.
I've searched for a way to configure it in the phone itself to no avail. I've searched through several forums and this is pretty much the only solution. Think some info in the setup VoIP/SIP threads maybe helpful. But this is a much faster solution.
If you find a way to do it, post it here bro.
Hello people
with my touch cruise I have a small but annoying problem.
I have all the SIM contacts in the phone together with the normal contacts and this creates double contacts.
I have tried to modify the register HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Phone --> Show Sim from 1 to 0 and this works great only in the contacts.
When I access the phone and look for contact by using the Smart Diealing, I continue to have double the contacts that is very annoying.
Is there any work around to solve this issue ?
thanks for helping
miazza
Only way around this known to me is to delete contacts from SIM.
Which, IMHO, is not a bad thing - SIM is very limited regarding data it can store for each contact. And you will regulary make backups/syncs, right?

Yes. U R right but the SIM is the only safe back-up I have.
Anyhow I will follow your suggestion. The risk is worth .
It remains a silli limitation for a mobile so advanced and with a SO on board.
Thanks for the assistance.

Regarding SIM being only backup.... you do have SD card in your Polaris?
I'm using PIM Backup (scheduled) to auto-backup daily all contacts, messages and tasks to my SD card. Then you only have a matter of copying those backups to your PC, CD, DVD... whatever...
It's freeware and fits my needs for unattended backup.
Of course, I do also have a sync with Outlook...
Thanks for the suggestion. I will follow this.

Hi everyone,
I'd like to store my contacts on the local phone storage. Unfortunately the contact app doesn't seem to support that. If I remember right the one from "Vanilla ICE v2" did.
Is is possible to just flash the apk from Vanilla/CM9/whatever supports local storage? Can I perhaps change the settings in the current app to support local storage? Or is there a option somewhere and I am just stupid^^?
Thanks for the help.
Best

PS: I am not really keen on syncing my contacts with google or anyone else so thats not really a solution...more of a dealbreaker. :/
There should be an option to Import/Export from storage in contacts.
Go to Contacts > press menu button > Import/Export
You'll then get the options to:
Import from Sim card
Import from Storage
Export to Storage
Share visible contacts
If the options are not there, then it must be a bug in BlindIce v8.
Oh, and be sure to turn off Google's contacts sync!

may i ask why u dont want to use google to sync as trillions of people use it ?
Hi,
@miz_pimp
Thanks for the help. If I understand you right, I should just use the Google account but not sync it. I already thought of that but hoped there would be a real local storage (like in other roms I have used).
@htc-phones
I just not comfortable with Google constantly integrating my contacts into my other web activations. And also I find it kind of rude that they use this data for there business.
And also I don't think the masses are a good adviser...
To precise my original question: is there a possibility for "real" local storage like some roms are able to (without the fear of accidental sync)? Does it depend on the contact app used?
Thanks again.

Maybe I misunderstood you. I have my contacts saved to my SD card, and do NOT have it synced with Google. Every time I flash a new ROM, I just restore my contacts from my SD card, but before doing so, I do not sync my Google account yet.
While my account is syncing, I quickly turn off "Sync Contacts", before any of my contacts are synced with my Google account.

I think I understood what you meant, but if I got you right your still linking your contacts to your Google-Account (the one you e.g. log into the market with), you just don't update (sync) the contacts within its "online address book".
But what I am infact looking for is the possibility to NOT link the contacts. In Endymion for example (but I remember correctly Vanilla as well) you can select "phone storage" as location to import your .vcf to. That option I am missing.
The workaround you suggested might work, but after flashing most roms auto sync is on and you have to be quick.
The point is since you can not really take back any mistakes in that field (since leaked informations can not be retrieved) I would really prefer a local solution.
But thank you for your help!

PS: Perhaps I would not be so "paranoid" if I had not received a mail from Google congratulating me to my new Galaxy Nexus after flashing Vanilla >.<. Or if I would be able to delete the serial of my old DesireS which I returned after fried eMMC...
I'm not so sure then, as I don't recall seeing that option, sorry.

here's my fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808037

Hope it helps!
I don't sync my contacts with Google either, all my contacts are backed up with TB then restored after a new Rom by just restoring data not app and data, as a backup I export to sd card.
