Strange folder names
Same here.
I allways thought TomTom navigator was causing them.

same thing happed to me when i started using a 1GB sandisc SD card. real pain!!! cured mine, 1st i used my SPV to format card as my laptop wouldn't fully complete. then put sd in card reader, plug in card reader then switch on computer. once computer is running put stuff on sd. when finished pull out sd and lock it!! then put it in XDA. works fine for me now. hope this is of some use.

found this,seems good.

found this today, good, quick clean-up for ppc

Thanks, I had the same problem after using Tomtom with Checkpoint. After formatting al works again!

This caused by the FAT table is corrupted (this is a part of the hdd/memory card, where stores which file is where is on the disk/card and what it its size). I have this on my PC few years ago... 60GB on my 1.7 GB HDD...

MicroSD Transfer to New Card

I currently have a new TyTN II. I already had a 2gb microSD. Due to arrive in my hand shortly are a full version of TomTom 6 and a 4gb.
Is there a way to transfer all of the data/apps on the 2gb card to the 4 without having to re-install everything?
Just put the 2GB in your computer / an SD Card reader and copy the entire contents of the 2GB to a TEMP folder on your computer. Now remove the 2GB card and insert the empty 4GB card and recopy everything from the TEMP folder on your computer to the 4GB card.
SIMPLE!!!

Thank you for your response. To clarify my question with an example, if I had TomTom installed to the 2gb, would the process you describe work without reinstalling the program?
When you say "TEMP", do you mean just create a new folder on the desktop, for example?
It seems that I have tried to simply copy the contents and the programs then had to be reinstalled.
Yes it will work that way. I've done it many times, although not with tomtom, but every other app I have installed on it works so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. I've even copied my miniSD from my wizard on to my microSD for my Kaiser and all of the programs still work without being installed over again.
You can name the folder anything you want on your computer, besides, you may want to keep it for backup in case something happens to your card anyway. I backup my card about once a month since SD cards tend to corrupt a little too often.
I guess I have wasted a lot of hours of my life reinstalling apps when I have changed devices. HP4700 to TyTN to TyTN II over 3 years or so.
Thanks again for your help.

Weird microSD behaviour?

Hi all.
I have done some search in forums, but found nothing simmilar. So, here we go:
I've got myself 8GB SanDisk microSD class 4 memory card.
And now I have some strange behaviour from it:
- I can not copy files to it using Microsoft ActiveSync Explorer (I was able to do copying when I was using 2GB Kingston microSD card).
- I CAN copy files to it using MyMobileR ver 1.23 integrated Mobile Explorer
- camera often shows too small number of remaining pictures possible (at any resolution). Pictures are going to SD card, OFC...
No items are missing from SD card, no directory names are corrupted...
Card is about 65% used, mostly by iGO 2006 maps, pictures, pocket books and mp3's...
Any ideas?
same sd card works fine for me.
maybe your sd card has some corrupted areas?

I have the same SD card and no problems.
I expect that you are using the Polaris or other equipment that supports SDHC.
I would recommend to format the card using FAT32.

Hot swapping sdhc cards

I'm new to Windows Mobile devices, having previously only used friends' before. I have orderer the Touch Pro, but I think this is more a general question, so I'm posting it here.
Is it safe to swap the SDHC cards while the device is on? I have ordered an 8GB card, but I also have a 4GB card already. I was wondering if I can put movies for example on the 4GB, while having music and everything else on the 8GB. This means I can bring more data with me.
Some programs will be installed on the storage card, so what happens when the card they are installed on is removed?
Also, is it best to install most things on the storage card or internal? I've seen reports of some programs not working well or at all unless installed internally. Is that common? Id rather not fill up the internal storage too fast.
Thank you
sum notes:
ur 4 gb card will prolly load up the appz much faster then the 8gb , i hate how slow my sandisk 8gb card is compared to my 4gb patriot card
definitely try to get the more xpensive higher speed cards
sum progs only work if u install it to the device memory and not the SDMMC
when u take out ur sdcard , and put in another one, u prolly gotta reboot so the pda can refresh/view it
to transfer files i use softick card exporter v3.12

ok, but what happens to programs? are the links still in the programs folder after the sdhc card they were installed on is removed?
if i have tomtom on the 4gb card and the rest on the 8gb card, will everything work ok without having to restart between swaps?

Any program you install on a card, if you remove the card, of course the program icons won't work. Just plug the card back in, no need to soft reset and it will work.
I suggest, use your 4 GB card for ALL your programs including TomTom with maps, so you can place all your videos and music on the bigger 8 GB card. I doubt you can fill the 4 GB with just programs, unless TomTom's maps are bigger than 4 GB. That way, the only time you have to insert the 8 GB card is during music and video playing.
Better yet, try installing ALL your programs on the 8 GB card, even music and video files. I am sure you will keep all your music files. For the video files, if you are like myself who after watching the converted DVD files, deletes them off the card so to place a new DVD movie file to watch. THERE IS NO NEED TO TAKE OFF THE CARD FROM THE DEVICE, all you need is WM5torage which is a FREE program that will let you view the card as an External Disk Drive. In other words, WM5torage turns your device into an instant card reader without removing the card itself from the device with just a push of a button. So deleting or file transfer is WAAAAYYYYY faster than using active sync.

Upgrading (Backing up) MicroSD Cards?

So i used to have an old 4gb MicroSD card for my Raphael. I just recently bought a 8gb. What i was wondering, how can i make an identical backup of my 4gb and load it to my 8gb so all my games and programs still work?
Just copy all the contents to your pc, then to the new card. It's easier with a card reader than doing it over active sync. I've hard to re-format my 16g card many times, and that's what I do.
i actually just did that, the problem is only my pictures and music transferred over. All my games and apps that i installed onto my card dont work =(
I actually had a similar problem once with a bunch of free ebooks that I downloaded from tor; I couldn't copy them to save my life off of my old pda. Fortunately, it had two card slots, so I installed total commander on the device (hadn't had it before), and transferred the books to a new micro sdhc card in a sd card adaptor from the cf card that they were loaded on. Then I transferred that to my fuze. I would suggest trying to use the ftp plugin of total commander to transfer to your desktop. With that said, I have NO IDEA IN HELL how to use the ftp plugin of total commander. You could probably do it as well with resco explorer. You're on your own, but it shouldn't be that hard to figure this stuff out.
One other option is to try sprite or sk tools backup (or something similar). Some backup apps have the option of backing up your sd card. I always thought it was kind of silly, because where in the hell do you store it, if your card is nearly full? Who knows, maybe if you sync to a pc, it will automatically store the backup on the pc. Or, delete all the stuff that you can transfer to the pc, run the backup (and store it on the card), then copy everything to the new card and do a restore.

[Q] 16 Giga Micro SD card problem

Hello Guys I would like your help on a problem I am facing with a new 16 Giga Class 4 micro SD card I bought for my DSS.
As you know the DSS has an 8G card coming out of the box.
After about 10 months with my DSS I decided to buy a 16G card to replace the 8G card.
As usual I tried to copy my old card to the new one using my lap top.
So I used the card reader of my pc and copied on a folder all the files and envelops of the old card; in other words I created a full copy of what was on the card.
After doing that I inserted in the card reader the new card and pasted all the data(files folders etc) of the old card that I had copied on my pc.
When I inserted the new card on the DSS everything was fine except one thing concerning the music player of the DSS.
Some videos that I had downloaded using youtube mate on my DSS and saving as mp3 and listening to them on the music player along with the rest of the mp3 had dissapeared.I tried pasting them manualy in the new card but it didnt work they were still not visible I tried bluetooth trasfer but they ended up in the video folder and not the musuc player.Any idea how can I solve this?Is there another way to copy the old card to the new and avoid the problem?
I just recently transferred all my data from stock 8gb card to a 16gb Sandisk class 6. I removed the 8gb from phone, put both 8gb & 16gb in my laptop and dragged all files from 8gb to the new card. No issues what so ever for me. Try the old card, if it works and no files lost then format new card and do as I did.

what do you mean you put both cards on the PC?
I guess you mean one at a time trasferring data on the PC and then copying the data in the new card.
If so this is what I did my self.
Small detail the 16G card is Kingston....
I have copied my files few weeks ago from 8GB card to 16GB without any problem. I was using robocopy (try to Google it). I also have found this, thought you may want to try.

Both cards in PC, drag all files from old card to new card, couldn't be any easier. Put new card in phone once transfer is complete, power up then allow 30 seconds or so for phone to locate files/apps stored on sd card.

Maybe is your card broken or doesn't work like it should be?
I did the same like all the others.
Placed my 8Gb SD-card in my pc, copied everything in a folder and then i've removed it and placed my new 16Gb SD-card in it and transfered everything and it worked.

are apps saved on your SD card still working fine on your new card with the drag/drop method?
or do they not appear anymore?
did you format before you transfered to your 16gb?
cheers
Yeah all my apps & data that were stored on sd card worked fine, they didn't show up at first in the app drawer until the phone and card fully synced. I just left all data on old card as a back up and my new card came formatted.
