Copying large files to sd card - General Topics

I am trying to copy an 80Mb file to my card via my ActiveSync connection. It gets about 25% of the way and I lose the connection. I have tried with a card reader and still it fails (and stops my reader responding). I have tried formatting the card but still have the same problem. This problem has always existed but after repeated attemps I have always managed to get the file across - but this time it just will not go!
Does anyone else have problems like this?

It is strange that you cant copy to the card via a card reader/writer. Have you tried formatting on the pda and the pc. There is a good program called storage tools for formatting, it has many options.

I had some issues like that with my Dazzle USB 2.0 card reader when plugged into my USB2.0 port.
I'd attempt to copy a large file over, then it would come up with some error, the drives would then disappear then re-appear but I wouldn't be able to copy to the drive again until I removed the device from the USB port.
I gave up in the end and bought a Shuttle USB2.0 3.5" bay card reader and have had no problems since.

[Q] iMac and Captivate no longer friends :(

I have spent about 3-4hrs trying to copy a file to my SD card with no avail.
I need some help.
I have in the past been able to explore both internal and external cards on my Captivate with debugging/mounting enabled with iMac OS 10.6.4 (rooted and unrooted).
This is no longer the case. The phone is now stock unrooted. At first, after connecting through usb, it would take several mins to see the internal drive, shortly after the external would appear. All for only a few seconds then OS X would give me an unexpected device removal error and drives are nowhere to be found. Now it does nothing though the thinks that it is connected. Doubletwist also recognized the device but would not be able to explore for media. Kies takes about 3 mins to connect via Parallels VM Win XP.
I have attempted the following:
Formatting both SD cards
Removing the external SD card
Many power cycles on both iMac and Captivate
All combinations of usb settings
Tried all usb ports (read in another thread).
Anyone else having issues or know a workaround for this?

Assuming debugging is on it may be either because the cord you are using is bad OR the android OS formatted the SD card in a non-mac readable format. Or it is something else.
I had this problem yesterday and ended up just using BEX (Bluetooth File Exchange) to move files between my phone and iMac. Took a few minutes to get the two to talk to each other but once it was working the speeds were fine. Might want to give that a shot before you go buying a new SD card or USB cable.
Crazy... I had to connect it through a powered USB hub.
Works like a champ now.

Card Reader and Other USB devices

I have a quick question. I have TnT lite 2.2 installed on my Gtab. If I plug in a USB thumbdrive, I can find the files on the Gtab. If I use a USB card reader, I cannot see where the files come up. I have gone through every folder, and the reader simply does not show up (yes, with a card in the reader).
Also, do all USB devices work? Where do they show up?
I am used to PC work, so getting used to this tablet is a bit of work

Try looking for usbdisk folder either using es file explorer or root explorer. Files from usb disk are in there

I tried that folder and it did not recognize the reader. The folder was empty.

try and reboot and then plug it in. if it still doesn't work, then maybe it just doesn't read the reader. only reads usb drives directly. it would be in the usbdisk folder btw.
Also keep in mind a lot of card readers (if not all) act like a bunch of drives even when there's nothing installed in them. That's why Windows pre-reserves drive letters for every slot on the gadget.
Readers like that may not work due to lack of proper drivers in Android ? Just a guess.
I don't have a portable SD reader at the moment (time for a DX order, I think). But, I have a microSD reader - one of those pen drives where you can add a microSD to it. That works fine in the VEGAn build, and I believe TnT Lite as well.
Tried the card reader for the CF cards from my camera. Had to plug the cable in 2 times but the card was seen and readable.

Was it a dedicated CF card reader or one of the multi readers? I have a multi reader I tried but couldnt get to come up. I am looking into a dedicated reader to see if that works.
It was a dedicated CF reader.
Since there is more than one slot, and Windows treats them as more than one drive, I would assume that one of the slots gets assigned as /usbdisk and the others are ignored. You are probably using one of the slots that is ignored.
Hopefully when we get the source, we can address these kinds of issues.
So essentially to get this to work, one needs to have just a dedicated reader for whatever style of memory card in use?
Cryofix in IRC has said that his 5-1 card reader worked. USB hubs work, so I don't see why these wouldn't. If you can, try putting a card in all of the slots to see if one is detected and then you'll know priority. There may be a way to remount the drives to different orders, but I have no idea how you would.
If you're rooted and have shell access you could manually mount the drives provided they're seen. They should be seen, I've had 6 devices hanging off a hub for mine and other than not knowing how(or not having the driver) to mount the DVD's UDF/ISO filesystem they all worked.
Count me in among the TnT Lite users who haven't yet figured out how to get their SD card reader to be recognized or mount. Mine has an LED on it that doesn't light up, leading me to believe it's not receiving power.

Neither windows pc or android device will read micro SD card

I have a 16GB SanDisk micro sdhc card that I use constantly in my incredible. It has all my songs, pictures, application and widget files and my phone cannot access it. It attempts to read the card then says 'card unexpectedly removed.' I suffered with that all day hoping that I could get home and try to copy the files to my pc and then format the sd card. Then my pc wouldn't recognize the card either. Once I plug it in, the autoplay would start reading the files, then it would stop and a message pops up saying 'please insert a disk into drive H.' It would not allow me to open up the drive, let alone copy any files from it. Nor could I format the card either.
Does anyone have any good information on how to either get my files back by getting the card working again, or by formatting the card, as i can do neither one at the moment.
Thanks,
Merry Xmas

[Q] Copying files to a USB OTG disk

Hi
I'm trying to use my Samsung S3 to copy files from a USB card reader or Canon 7D to a USB hard drive. So far I've managed to get it to copy files but it keeps stopping with the error
Write error
---------------------------
Error writing to target file!
///usb/<DV02LU00P01>500Gb
usb/IMG_0022.CR2!
The point it stops isn't consistent, sometimes it copies 2 files, sometimes 13, sometimes 7 etc
The story so far:
1. Using an USB OTG Hub
2. Using Total Commander and USB-Stick Plugin v1.3.13
3. Phone is Rooted
4. Using a Transcend usb3 card reader
5. I've tried copying from the card reader to the phones internal memory
6. I've tried copying from the card reader to the phones extsdcard
7. I've tried copying from the card reader to the usb hard disk
8. I've used 3 different power supplies for the hub in case there was a power shortage.
9. I've used RawVision to copy directly from my Canon 7D to phones internal sd card
It seems that it is possible but it's very unreliable. I would really like it if I could set it going at night to copy a 16Gb card to the usb hard drive and know that it will do it.
Thanks for any help received.

USB OTG Transfer Speeds and File Loss

Hello I an running a Droid Z2 Force. I have several cameras in which store pics/vid on SD cards. I generally use the Samsung EVO Select 32GB cards. I have a USB C to USB A 3.0 adapter. And a USB 3.0 card reader.
I have been using the native File Manager version 4.0.27.
I transfer the pictures from the SD card via the card reader to an SD card that resides in my phone. Also a Samsung EVO Select.
On multiple occasions I have experienced file loss. I perform the file transfer with the native file manager by selecting the folder on the SD card that is in the reader, selecting move to, selecting the folder on the SD card in phone that I want the files, and selecting paste. Occationally once completed the folder with pictures/videos is not on either SD card. They are totally lost.
Also the transfer speed is extremely slow. Painfully slow.
What is the best file manager for USB OTG file transfer like I am doing? I want something reliable that won't loose my pics. And something that will xfer quickly.
Also does it matter if I use Fat32, NTFS, or exFAT for the SD card? Currently I believe I'm using Fat32 but I will have to double check.
If I have left out any needed information please ask and I will supply it.
Bump
Use the 'copy' function instead of move, could be damaged sd card, bad card reader or anything.
